Dreamcatcher's Scream is part 1 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. It is mostly showing the victim's perspective of (cyber)bullying, comparing it to a medieval witch hunt and a burning at the stake. The tree is the tree of language, and it grows black fruit for every hurtful thing people say. Note also the hand gesture, it is the devil's horns introduced by Ronnie James Dio as a symbol for metal, but it originally was a gesture in the middle ages to ward off the evil eye, tying into the witch hunt theme. I really enjoy the music, it's rock mixed with EDM. Dreamcatcher are always very creative, and they are in their own genre by this point.
Also, a part I love about the song that not a lot of people talk about is the shift in the lyrics. It goes from "Please, I don't want to scream" to "I just want to make you scream". It's an insanely important shift to the song, showing how a victim can turn into a perpetrator. It's not just fighting back and defending oneself, now it's revenge and hate. Hence, an endless cycle of flame wars and bullying.
Ms.Siyeon was actually a vocalist of a rock band when she was in her high school. That explains how powerful her voice is and is very suited for rock songs. If you want thick sounding guitars, you should listen their song Endless Night and Don't Light My Fire. 🤘
@@sgrios And if that still ain't "thicc enough" the absolute face melter No More that'll seal the deal for sure. Pontus Norgren of Hammerfall on guitars yo.
Stray kids are amazing! All their discography is SELF PRODUCED from the lyrics! The beat! The wordplay the lines distribution! Gods Menu, Thunderous and Venom!!!
In fact Bangchan, leader of Stray Kids, is a fan of Dreamcatcher, he always recommends his songs in Chan's room (his live). In addition, 2 of the music producers behind Dreamcatcher (Leez and Ollounder) have also collaborated for Ateez. I recommend listening to Guerrilla, their latest comeback. I am a follower of these three groups. I liked his reaction.
Thank you for introducing K-pop to your friend and giving me detailed musical opinions. Listen to Dreamcatcher's Japanese songs Endless Night and No More to your metal guys
As someone who had the incredible privilege to see Dreamcatcher and Stray Kids live, I can attest to the fact that ‘Scream’ and ‘Maniac’ along with pretty much the rest of their discographies (that they performed) live are incredible
Also I think they would love Awaken by Stray kids as well as Guerrilla by Ateez because both have Metal influences. Especially in Guerrilla you can hear screamo parts 😍😍
Thank you so much for reacting to TXT. I was enjoying it more when they started playing the drum beats with hands. TXT really does have one of the best discographies in kpop. I just hope you will make them react to Can't you see me, Dear Sputnik, Eternally. I'm sure they'll love it.
I think y'all would love Chronosaurus, Awaken, Hello Stranger, Any, Phobia and Pacemaker from Stray kids plus the girl's smile is so precious lol like when the guys are complimenting Stray kids she's so happy and it makes me happy too cause i love them lol
"i have the attention span of a fruitfly on speed" has to be one of the best lines ive ever heard. I know youll probably continue on with the dystopia trilogy but id love to see you bring both of them back for maison and BEcause specifically, i feel like theyd both really enjoy those songs
Since you enjoy Siyeon and Dami's voices do check out this piece by them. It's an ost by Siyeon ft. Dami for a korean survival horror show and its mostly Siyeon tapping into her roots as the lead vocal of her rock band and Dami going high. ruclips.net/video/sIsl5Oifd8w/видео.html And this is the ballad version of the same song (for emotional scenes I guess) and you can really tell how she sings it differently. ruclips.net/video/1ju-R3JhYtI/видео.html
The slow version of "shadow" is actually a lot better. Especially when it comes to the vocal volume of Siyeon and Dami. I recommend the original from the DC yt channel: ruclips.net/video/Cafd39K_MmQ/видео.html And DC's MV of "BEcause" - great song with video references from the horror film "Us".
Considering the comments on the guitar sounds in the beginning of Scream, I would suggest y'all react to Dreamcatcher's b-sides, especially "Wind Blows" and "Sahara". Just a side note for the MV to Scream if you haven't noticed, one of the people in the group choreo is masked. One of their members was in China participating on a music show series and not available for the promotions but instead of changing the choreo for five, they just subbed in a masked dancer, so they don't need to change anything for when she came back. Love these reactions! Keep it up!
The singer providing the added layer of vocals in Scream that Chris talked about is actually one of their music producers LEEZ, who teams up with Ollounder to make the awesome music for Dreamcatcher. I really love the technical breakdowns provided by Chris and Jared. Keep them coming.
I think it would be really cool if they watched & listened to Crown and Nap of a Star back to back, with special mind paid to the lyrics, since the music video for Nap of a Star tells the story of the lyrics of Crown! Then, Can’t You See Me? has parallel lyrics to Nap of a Star, so they’d be cool to compare, too! NOAS: “I can see even if you're not by my side I feel you even if you don't say a word Because I believe in you even if I'm anxious” CYSM: “Can’t you see me? Like on that magical day, say “Believe me” My heart incinerated, come and feel me, feel me”
Not only are the reactions good, respectful and identifying out really good musical points … but more like a fan showing her friends some cool music. I dig it 👍 💜
Glad both Chris and Jared enjoyed Scream 🤘 I think you'd also like Dreamcatcher's Japanese songs as well ; Endless Night the hard rock song. No More the low A 7-string song. Don't Light My Fire the symphonic metal song, à la Nemo.
Great reactions!! Dreamcatcher self made videos SAHARA and Break the Wall are also more rock, metal sounding. They are B side songs so they are more hidden gems.
If our boy wants drums, he needs to get onto Dreamcatcher's 'Piri' and 'Deja Vu'. The fills in 'Piri' are gorgeous, but the chorus drums to 'Deja Vu' are UNGODLY!
Great reaction, always enjoy hearing people who are knowledgeable on a topic speak about it. I think seeing them dig deeper into Dreamcatcher with Boca and Odd Eye would be interesting. Boca and Odd Eye, while being part of the same Dystopia trilogy, offer very different sounds despite still being distinctly Dreamcatcher. Also, showing them something from Dreamcatchers b-sides that has a completely different sound would be a good watch. Something like Red Sun, which they have a performance video for. Also, Stray Kids, Venom. That song is ridiculous.
Stray Kids are amazing, no wonder why they all praised and vibed to their music. Please react to more SKZ videos with them! Also I didn't know Dreamcatcher, I'll definitely listen to them, that song was fire!
Dreamcatcher is one of the most underrated groups in K-pop. I recommend PIRI (Rock + Hip Hop), Deja Vu (Rock Ballad), and No More (Metal). And Dreamcatcher's famous EDMs are Silent Night and In the Frozen.
I watch a lot of reaction videos and all the comments here were gold and really added to my knowledge of metal production and helped me to appreciate these Kpop songs even more!! New subscriber here I love this please keep going
love when the guys are on there describing the musical theory. Its like listening to the song all over again with a new lens. keep them coming. Hooked on your reactions
Love to see more stray Kids their newest release is Time Out m/v and it is a happy 4th birthday gift to the stay fandom. We were born on Aug 1st 2018. this song has an old school rock boy band feel and it just makes you happy. But I would also love to see a reaction from an actual k-pop group called Xidinary Heros. They debut Nov 2021 and just released a new album with the title track Test Me m/v and their debut song is Happy Death Day. They are more of a rock than hip hop and are under the same company JYP Entertainment as Stray Kids, twice, Itzy, got7 and Day 6 (also a band but a 3rd generation band same gen as BTS)
I think it would be interessting to let chris react to "Mixtape: time out" by Stray Kids. It sounds like a 2010s Poprock song and the same thing kinda goes for "shout out " by Enhypen.
I liked your reactions! I also really like how we get so much music-production knowledge it's awesome since I'm trying to start making my own music. Thank you!
TXT as well as JHope were invited to perform at Lollapalooza just recently. Since the setlist for TXT's Lollapalooza's performance is primarily rock/pop punk/emo punk, you guys might have to check them out here ruclips.net/video/Yr4o8ONbZsA/видео.html
This is amazing,, please check out Dreamcatcher Japanese releases for heavier stuff. Their recent ones have some symphonic metal vibe like Nightwish, the band he was mentioning.
Ay finally another Metalhead who loves kpop^^ My ULT boygroups are: 14U (Main ULT), TXT, Enhypen, 2Z, Luminous, DKB, ATeez And for girlgroups: Dreamcatcher, Red Velvet, IVE, Mamamoo
Another successful k-pop group that writes, arranges, and producers all their own music is (G)I-DLE. They are also among diverse k-pop groups in their music, from dance pop to hip-hop to pop-punk and everything in between. This reflects the diversity in their members, coming from 4 different countries and with very different musical tastes that they manage to combine in a way that works. Personally I think they are at their best with their lyrically strong female empowerment singles, Oh My God, Lion, and Tomboy.
Actually “Scream” wouldn’t be considered Dubstep but actually a genre called Psytrance! It was one of the first times being used in Kpop (Ateez also did it before) and i love it :))
This was so fun to watch. Hearing the different takes on the musical aspects of it and an overall respect for the art and the craft. Made me very happy when watching. :)
It's so interesting watching your reactions. I hope to see more. 🙂 Some of my fav Skz tracks might not be to everyone's taste, but I love Easy, District9 (especialy the rap bars in D9) Side Effects, The Tortoise and the Hare etc. And Slump and all Skz Tracs if I am perfectly honest. LOL. From Oddinary my fav are actualy Freeze and the 2 unit songs Muddy water and Waiting for us. See you around YT again hopefully soon. 🤟
TXT~~ :D i hope u make em listen to Enhypen's b-side tracks too soon ^^ i don't know if this is already on a list somewhere but i really wanna recommend Attention, Please! very rock ^^ if it's on a waiting line i'll shut up about it xD
Scream is more EDM Dubstep than Rock stuff. But the 2nd and the 3rd part Of Dystopia Trilogy (BOCA and Odd eye is more rock) Especially Odd Eye with Nu Metal. It's more satisfying to hear. 😂
It would be interesting to check out more of Dreamcatcher’s japanese songs that are even more rock and Ateez’s Guerrilla! This was super enjoyable to watch thank you.
someone probably already said it but kpop groups often have live band on the concerts or at least make a more instrumentally heavy remixes of the songs for that extra oomph!
you should definitely react to Ateez’ Guerrilla !! as a metalhead myself there were some elements in the song that i really admired! thank you for another enjoyable reaction 🤍🤍🤘
Aaa I love Jared and how he talks about kpop! please bring him back and make them react to "Boca" by Dreamcatcher and some of Dreamcatcher's Japanese songs like No more, Don't light my fire and Eclipse, I'm sure they would love them! ♥
"Siyeon's belting, Dami's low rapping and some more guitar volume". Just give this man "Boca" now!!!

I'd be great if you can also have them react to Thunderous by Stray Kids.
Ooooooh yes!!!! I'll definitely be showing them more Stray Kids and Thunderous is on my list
I so recommended for Endless Night and Breaking Out from dreamcatcher
Dreamcatcher!!!!!!!!!! They've got a killer discography it's insane
For Chris you should check out the Dreamcatcher songs where they perform with a live band. Good stuff.

I would have put Dreamcatcher ODD EYE for a more newer Rock song of theirs than SCREAM. Still, they're all good anyway.
And Odd Eye actually includes Handong!! Just a little bit upset that her absence and the backup dancer with the mask wasn’t never mentioned here 😭
Guys, react to "Endless Night" by Dreamcatcher, I think you're gonna like it a lot. It's a must if you're metalheads.
