Yeah, they've been around for a long time. If you count the Minx era, some of them have been together for almost a decade, which is a lifetime in kpop. They have been through disbandment, rebranding, too many award snubs to count, and the temporary loss of one of the members during COVID (she's back now though and better than ever). And rather than tearing them apart this has solidified them into one of the most cohesive, professional and distinct groups in the industry. So yes, they are experienced, and yes they absolutely have something to prove.

Literally nobody else sounds like Dreamcatcher, they've had the same composers since they debuted 6 years ago and their sound has only gotten cooler over time as it's progressed from straight rock to rock fusion. Yessss! Welcome to the Dreamworld, my friend! They have not disbanded; conversely, they have resigned their contracts for a few more years! They aren't a hated group. They're from a very small agency using a genre that isn't well received in Korea. They are VASTLY underappreciated. They won their first music show win last year with the title track 'MAISON'. This made them the girl group with the longest time without a win. All of their title tracks are rock-based, but their b-sides are from many different genres. DC is such a comfort group for me. They had such a rocky road to where they are now but have always been true to their sound even when it wasn’t popular. They’ve managed to build on of the most dedicated canvases that exists today. I even went to a Dreamcatcher anniversary event not too long ago and the cafe was packed!
Like Jiu (the leader) once said: "Dreamcatcher is like a black hole, once you're in it you can't get out!" They have stayed true to themselves since debut, for over 6 years going strong, doing what they wanted and having the freedom to try new things. All of this was possible thanks to their love for Insomnias (fandom name). REASON is the perfect example that shows how thankful they are for the fans and that everything they've achieved so far is also thanks to Insomnia. Since the beginning Dreamcatcher has struggled to climb their way to success which is natural coming from a smaller company, with a different concept and different sound compared to other groups. If you fall deeper into the black hole you'll find hidden gems everywhere, from videos to songs, to covers and performances as well as funny moments. They are 7 adorable genuine human beings who sincerely apreciate every single moment they spend with fans and working as artists. Today Dreamcatcher is the well known "Face of rock in kpop", won first place twice on music shows, won several awards including one from a major award show, many sold-out concerts, first Kpop group to perform at Primavera Sound, over 100 Million streams on Korean platforms, way over 1 billion streams (youtube+spotify combined), almost a million seller and the list goes on and on.... They've just renewed their contracts last year so Dreamcatcher might just stick around for a bit longer and we'll be here to support them as always! Yeah bro this is THAT group. Why they aren't at the top is beyond me. Cultural reasons? Who knows but they have everything you want in K-pop and then they add some more. Personality, Vocals, Choreo, Visuals, Production this list is endless. They've had struggles and a lot of their later songs relate to standing up, moving forward etc. Their debut singles, which are also amazing, span like a 6-7 song theme that is darker but really interesting. Maybe that's why didn't get wins early on but keep going you won't be disappointed.
From going to their tours these past months I came to find out the diversity in Dreamcatcher fandon the common types of community I saw are like grandpa's I've saw a some good chunk of granpaws here and there there were so cute,gamer boys obviously,the lesbians you do not want to mess with,a couple of gay men also the ones you do not want to mess with😂,gymbros I'm actually surprised at the amount of gym bros and gym sis at the concert holding lightstick and all that, rock and roll dads with all the tattoos and beard and leather jacket like it was so diverse and ofc the OGs the fans from Minx eras everyone was just co-existing in that hall all excited for Dreamcatcher all having fun from all sorts of different walks of life, interests and community its just that as unique of a group the girls are they gain such unique collection of fan based as well I guess thats what I'am trying articulate
About the things you said during Reason... First of all luckily are not disbanding😅 Now let me explain some things about them: They as a group existed since 2014 and were called Minx (which was formed by 5 out of 7 of them) The company with them was following the trends of the moment (such as cute, teen crush, summer vibes) The members at the time weren't enthusiastic about it. Eventually the company decided to make them disband as Minx and the girls suffered from it (they felt depressed, missing the stage and support from people, couldn't even listen to music without having an hard time). In 2017 the company had the wonderful idea to rebrand them as Dreamcatcher, adding 2 new members and changing completely their concept and sound (something that the girls would have gladly enjoyed performing, and also that would help them show more their talent). And so they started having this dark, elegant, horror creepy concept with music that had rock elements in it. Many people in the kpop industry didn't quite understand this odd choice (since rock is not as appreciated in Korea as in other coutries such as Japan or the western music industry) and told them multiple times "to become popular you need to change your sound" (also because koreans were not used to see such powerful performances and dark vibes from girlgroups, which were expected to be more cute/sexy instead of this). So basically Dreamcatcher started gaining attention more internationally than in Korea. + in the kpop industry its difficult to become big without winning any prizes in shows (idk if you already know it but whenever a group debuts/comeback they perform for a few weeks to promote themselves and if they win against the others they have bigger possibilities to be invited to award shows, programms, have sponsors and higher budget) So basically Dreamcatcher had a very hard time in having a 1st win to these shows because either they comeback on the worst times and had to go against super popular groups or they were rigged. After years of fatigue from them and also from us fans who were doing the impossible to give them this win, they finally got their 1st and 2nd win (they had to wait 5 long years) Since the debut they gave their everything with perfect performances and never lacking in energy but had to wait A LOT before starting to gain attention from a big public (That's what the stairs in the Reason video represented) And at the end of the day they and us fans are always cheering for each others and trying to do our best.. @@singnieak4764 I don't know the whole story, but from what I understand some rock groups, let's say, got a little out of hand at their concerts. I've heard stories of band members flashing their junk on stage and things of a similar nature. South Korea, as you may know, is a VERY conservative country. The general population wasn't going to stand for that type of shenanigans (for lack of a better word) and the government was like "Nope, not gonna have that in our country". As a result rock groups, and rock music in general, ended up with a severe stigma in SK. Then along comes Dreamcatcher with it's rock influenced music and a dark concept (also not very popular in SK at the time). Add in the fact that they came from a very small, relatively unknown company and, like the staircase in the video, it's been a long hard climb to get to where they are now. Up until the last year or so, they've been FAR more popular in the west than they have been in SK and we, like Pat, had to basically stumble upon them by accident.

That combination never exists before, and they are still the only one. If you know a bit of kpop, you know it is not easy to survive even in the mainstream. Yet Dreamcacther sent to the niche market, and rock sound is not even something can easily accepted by general people in korea. Among kpop idols, they are actually quite well-known and respected though. Their first win on Korean TV music show gained after 1924 days since debut (more than 5 years), that shows how hard it was for them to break through the local market even though they already gained huge fanbase internationally since the first year. Other groups would've changed their concept in the first 3 years or so if they don't get the expected results, but Dreamcather perseveres and even further evolve their sound.

Dreamcatcher are my comfort these days. It’s been about two years since I got into them, and it was the best decision i ever made. I’ve never been so invested in a group before in my life. Not only are they extremely talented, but they are warm, lighthearted and very funny individuals. They’ve had their struggles (it took 1,923 days to achieve their first win), but they fought hard and never gave up, and now they are more successful than ever. No worries about them disbanding - they’ve just recently signed new contracts!
A couple of things I didn't see mentioned in the comments that I read below. Dreamcatcher is known as the Dark Angels of Kpop. When they first debuted they weren't well recieved in Korea, but have since been gaining more and more influence. Being invited to do shows with bigger named actors in South Korea. One of the beautiful things about the "Reason" video, other than each of the ladies portrayed in different outfits from their past songs, is the fact that when they decided to do the animation part of the vid not only did they throw in random set pieces of their past videos, they also based it on a comment made by JiU (the leader). In past interview, she said she viewed Dreamcatcher as "Stair Idols". Meaning that they may not be rushing to the top, but they would continue to try to get through their hardships one stair at a time, always progressing. And, if you hadn't guessed already, the hand that reaches down and lifts them up is the collection of InSomnia's love and support. I've been a fan since their debut and I will continue for as long as they put out content. Love these beautiful and talented ladies.
I felt exactly what you felt my first time hearing them 4 months ago. They quickly became my ult group. I am very impressed that you picked up on their determination and their struggles going against the traditional K-pop scene. They are, in my opinion with the limited groups I have watched, the best K-pop group because they don't sound like Kpop, they sound more like K-rock. Their b-sides show their versatility and tastes, even though this is my first video of yours I am seeing, I am pretty sure you will enjoy all of their songs.Great reaction and looking forward to future videos.

For some good examples of this, watch Insomnicsy's "Dreamcatcher Being Unfiltered Idols" (five episodes, so far), "Dreamcatcher Being Inappropriate" (only three episodes, I think), and "Dreamcatcher Saying Questionable Things". But, there's a lot more in there besides swearing, such as the discussions about who is the supreme pervert of the group. Actually, just watch everything on Insomnicsy's channel. If you think you love Dreamcatcher now, you'll hit new levels. Her work on that channel has been invaluable to Insomnias, particularly new ones.
They didn't have a lot of success in korea (overseas took to the rock concept more) for a long time, they went the longest time of any group from debut to finally winning on a music show. But over time little by little they grew, now when any other kpop group does rock, they immediately get mentioned. Most of their singles are Rock or EDM themed, but they have a lot of variety in the b-sides, they do R&B particularly well (Wonderland, And There was No One Left).

Now, especially in the past year, you see new girl groups coming out and doing things that are very Dreamcatcher. Dreamcatcher used to be a 5 member group called MINX with a cute girly pinky concept, but they came out at the wrong time bc other girl groups from big companies debuted that year and there wasn't a place for a small company group. Years later, the label decided to redebut MINX with a darker, horror concept--Dreamcatcher--with the addition of two members and so the story begins. Dreamcatcher does story-based concepts, usually come in many parts throughout their title tracks. They have three storylines so far: Nightmare (Chase Me, Goodnight, Fly High, You and I, What, Piri, Breaking Out), Dystopia (Scream, BOCA, Odd Eye) and Apocalypse (MAISON, VISION & ???). They also have stand-alone title tracks like Deja Vu, Rose Blue, BEcause, Over The Sky and their Japanese songs like Endless Night, Eclipse, etc. I would watch Dystopia first, catch up with Nightmare and wait for Apocalypse ending in May to react to MAISON and the last track of the trilogy. Nightmare - the girls became nightmares haunting people's dreams. Dystopia - the three of language has been corrupted by hate. a concept about cyberbullying, especially in the idol industry. Apocalypse - climate change and pollution have taken over the earth. the powerful goddesses in dreamcatcher beg for help, but ultimately decide to take action themselves. Looking forward to it!

They’re an older group. They were never hated on (maybe hated on by The Show?), more respected by their peers and kpop fans in general. Reasons why it took them so long to get their first win because the rock sound isn’t popular in South Korea and voting was more difficult to access for international fans back then. They came very close to first place multiple times. To understand more of their journey, check out meera “dodging disbandment and extreme sport Dreamcatcher” something like that along the line. They had/have a very inspiring journey Edit/ they’re not going anywhere soon. They signed a contract extension last fall, so they will be around for a while.

And don't worry, they're not disbanded - they just announced in December that all seven of them jointly renewed their contracts ahead of time and their next comeback is scheduled for May. Yes, they've often been slept on or downright disrespected because of the inclusion of rock style in their music and some members have even said they've been told by other people that if they ever hope to be successful they need to give up on the rock. They have quite a history (which I feel is covered really well in the video "Road to Fame" by insomnicsy here on RUclips), but they're still going strong, all of the members have said they want to continue this style and some said they'd like to lean into it more. "Vision" is the second entry in their Apocalypse Trilogy, which starts with "Maison" and will end with their comeback this May - it talks about defending the environment and the world that we're destroying. "Boca" is the second their Dystopia Trilogy, which starts with "Scream" and ends with "Odd Eye" - this trilogy talks about cyberbullying and online harassment and how it affects people.

Welcome to the dreamworld. They just celebrated their 6 year anniversary with their fan song reason. They are considered the black sheep of Kpop. With their rock/metal inspired music which isn’t widely accepted in Korea, which is only now starting to change. They are definately experienced and have a chip on their shoulder. They hold the record for longest girl group to take to get a first win which took 5 years. They just renewed the contract. Comeback in may. They are the only group I listen to. They have a super diverse discography with their title tracks tending to be more rock. But they own at everything they do.
they are far from disbanding! in fact all 7 girls just resigned their contracts, making them the third girl group in history to do that without losing a member or moving companies! the other two are red velvet and twice, hugely popular groups from incredibly stable companies, this is such an amazing milestone for them god they make me happy

Once you hear them for the 1st time you are done. You will get trapped in that rabbit hole. They weren't hated on but they still aren't big in Korea. They have a huge international fan base. They finally got their 1st music show win last year with their song Mansion. This video pretty much shows their struggles (hence the climbing of the staircase) but never giving up on themselves as well as their company and finally reaching the top while being true to themselves with the help of InSomnia (their fandom)
I’m quite new to Dreamcatcher and saw lots of the videos recommended in reaction videos but what I really wish people had mentioned are the self made MVs Sahara, Break the Wall and Poison love. They really show off the awesome bond and fun the members have. And of course as a fan of Kingdom the awesome K-Zombies version of Boca was mind blowing.

Thank you for watching Dreamcatcher! I love seeing people fall for them, it’s inevitable. You read them right when you said they’re experienced but have something to prove. They’ve been around for six years now but it was only last year they finally got a win on a music show in Korea. They’re definitely appreciated more internationally than they are in their home country. Their rock sound isn’t really appreciated in Korea and they’ve definitely been told they should change it before. Also made me laugh that you mentioned how much Handong looks like Taeyeon immediately, shouted “yes she does!” at my tv. Look forward to seeing you watch more! One of my favorite groups, bro. Scrappy underdogs from a small company that actually are like a real family. And they are FUNNY. People won’t give them their due, but they’re actually one of the best live performers in the game. Which of the 3rd Gen girl groups are actually still ACTIVE active? Blackpink, Twice, Red Velvet, Mamamoo…and DREAMCATCHER. They survived with just their hard work and guts. No big company backing. You’ve already got great recommendations so the only song I’ll mention is Deja Vu…possibly one of the most beautiful kpop songs I’ve ever heard. Man, there's nothing better than seeing someone go into a Dreamcatcher reaction completely blind and watching them spend of the time completely unable to articulate what they're feeling. As someone who's been following the group for around 2 years now, that feeling doesn't really ever go away. You've discovered an extremely talented group of women who are very passionate about what they do and about their fans, InSomnia, who support them. I apologize in advance for the info dump but wanted to give you some context on Dreamcatcher and on the song's you've seen. Dreamcatcher are genre benders and they're always finding new and interesting ways to blend various genres together. Their title-tracks always have a rock or metal influence in their production and that level of influence varies from release to release but it's always there. Their B-sides are some of the most diverse in any group I've ever heard, in or out of KPop. They have songs that fall into just about any genre you'd want to listen to including R&B, Jazz, Reggae, Funk, Trap, Rock, Trance, EDM, and much more. They have two main producers, Leez and Ollounder, who are also part of Ateez's production team. The members themselves also have several writing and composition credits on many of their songs. As far as concepts go, Dreamcatcher doesn't really do cute, at least not on their title tracks. With that said, 5 of the 7 seven members of Dreamcatcher used to be a different group called Minx that debuted in 2014. Minx was a typical kpop girl group with a cute concept and due to an oversaturated market and some poor decisions by their management company their initial concept failed. Instead of disbanding the group the company, Happy Face Entertainment, decided to re-debut them with a new concept. They added two new members and on January 13th, a Friday, Dreamcatcher was born. Dreamcatcher's concept was a complete 180 from Minx. Where Minx was cute and fun and lighthearted, Dreamcatcher was dark and serious and the songs they created addressed real issues. As of right now, there are three main storylines for Dreamcatcher. The Nightmare series, the Dystopia trilogy, and the Apocalypse trilogy. They also have a lot of standalone title tracks that are not tied to any overarching narrative. ------Nightmare Series------ The Nightmare Series was Dreamcatcher's debut storyline, and the songs are heavily influenced by J-rock. The lyrical content of the songs addresses the fears or nightmares that idols and people experience in life. Societal expectations, loneliness, feeling lost and unsure of your direction in life, depression, suicide, and much more. The MV's tell a story of how the girls became cursed as Nightmares and their journey to try and break free of the Nightmare world. Personally, I also think the Nightmare series serves as a mirror for the girls own journey from Minx to Dreamcatcher. All of the fear and pain that comes from pouring your heart into something and then failing at it had to have been traumatic. Then to completely re-invent yourself so you can try again, all the while knowing that it probably won't work. For a group to re-debut, especially with all the same members, almost never happens. Let alone with a concept thats so outside of the mainstream. A Rock/Horror concept was unheard of and only recently have other groups in kpop started to come out with similar concepts. ---Nightmare Series Title Tracks--- Chae Me - This is their debut release. Good Night Fly High - This is a prequel to Chase Me. This MV shows the member being cursed as Nightmares and you'll notice in the production that the song is much poppier and lighter than Chase Me or Good Night, but it has these stabs of darkness throughout and the MV and song gets darker and heavier as it progresses. This to me lines up with the theory that it's a parallel or mirror to their journey. You & I What Piri - This is the 'official' end of the Nightmare series. Breaking Out - This is their first Japanese release and an Unofficial ending to the Nightmare series that's a little more hopeful. ------Dystopia Trilogy------ The Dystopia trilogy Is their second storyline, and it addresses online bullying, hate speech, calling out haters and telling them to shut their boca (mouth), and the realization that social media is just a sweet lie covering up a darker (dystopian) reality. This trilogy came out not long after several idols committed suicide due to online bullying and hate comments and I feel pretty confident that its creation was at least partially influenced by those events. Boca is the second part of this storyline, and the song is literally Dreamcatcher telling haters to shut their mouths or they'll do it for them. ---Dystopia Trilogy Title Tracks--- Scream Boca - Spanish for Mouth Odd Eye ------Apocalypse Trilogy------ Their newest storyline is the Apocalypse Trilogy. This trilogy isn't complete yet, but they just announced last week that there would be a comeback in May to finish up this trilogy. This trilogy seems to be addressing the more existential treats that we face as humanity with the first song, Maison, being a cry for help and a call to action on Climate Change. To hold those responsible for the damage they are causing to our planet and to stop pretending that everything is okay. The second song in this trilogy, Vision, seems to be a challenge to stand for what you believe in. To do the work necessary to bring about a brighter future. So that we can see the Vision that Dreamcatcher has of a better world. ---Apocalypse Trilogy Title Tracks--- Maison - French for Home/House Vision (Unknown) - Release should be in May. ------Reason------ Reason is Dreamcatcher's 6-year anniversary Fan song and is a love letter to their fandom, InSomnia. They've had a hard road to get to where they are and, in this song, they're acknowledging that they've only been able to succeed due to the love and support that their fans have given them. The clips in the MV of them winning that trophy was from their song Maison and their first music show win, 1923 days after debut and 2771 days for the original 5 Minx members. You're not the only reactor to feel a certain type of way during that song. I've seen reactors who's first reaction to Dreamcatcher was Reason and they teared up, which is just a testiment to the passion and emotion present in the song. Only Dreamcatcher can make a song that makes you simultaneously want to hand bang and cry at the same time. ---Stand-alone & Fan songs--- Deja Vu - This is a collaboration with the mobile game King's Raid. As "Reason" is a 6th anniversary song, indicate that they are already in the business for a quite long time, where there were a lot of more popular groups had been disbanded just before reaching the 3rd years... As they are from a quite small company, with consistently infused rock/metal sound in their title track, which is not a common genre in the South Korean industry, indicate that they are a persistent and perseverance at what they are love to do... Fortunately, they are blessed with a company that always support them, from the CEO, Producers, and staffs... Yes, dreamcatcher is an experienced group, just over 6 years but they do have a lot to prove, having gotten their first music show wins just last year. Fun fact. Vision is their most recent title track and it is believed by many to be about saving the planet. Their second most recent title track is very transparently about saving the planet as well.

Thanks for such a fun reaction First, welcome to the Dreamworld! No Dreamcatcher isnt disbanding anytime soon. They actually just renewed their cotract and have a comeback planned for next month as the 3rd and final part of the apocalypse series. Second, its okay that youre late to the party. Now you get to enjoy some amazing content. Theres honestly such a large abundance of content that id love to see your reaction to. Their personalities are even more amazing than the MVs. So much to love. Lastly, yes Dreamcatcher wasnt a generally accepted K-pop group within South Korea specifically. To start they had much more overseas success and thats still true to this day. Theres some conspiracies about they being cheated out of a show win with evidence to back it up. Its sad to see but it just goes to show the perseverance these girls have. I cant think of another group whos as strong as Dreamcatcher when it comes to heart. Thankfully they did get their first win with the title song Maison. 21:47 Not disbanding, in fact they all renewed their contracts with the company about a year earlier than required which shows their commitment and also how well the company has been treating them. But they have had a hard road, harder than most in fact. Debuting with a more cute concept, not breaking through with it, facing disbandment and then redebuting again with a totally different concept, having an award show rigged against them, struggling to get recognition in an industry that doesn't like change when it comes to the Rock influence and through it all they stuck it out. They won their first award last year (the song Maison), after 5 years of being Dreamcatcher. Needless to say, Reason hits pretty heavy for us Insomnia especially the ones who have been fans since the early days.

It's never too late to get into Dreamcatcher :D For me, they have Ult group status, at the same level as Girls Generation. They have so many songs under their belt already, and so much behind the scenes content, that it's a little bit of a choose your own musical adventure. Their title tracks are generally rock-infused, but their other tracks cover a wide range of genres that really showcases their talent. Feel like some Jazz, Funk, EDM, City Pop, Ballads? They got you covered. Their concerts are 11/10, I've only seen the online ones, but definitely want to see them live in person one day. Glad you enjoyed your introduction to them, and I alllways look forward to dance practice / performance vids; most of their choreography is art in motion -like the music, they blend sharp and weighted moves with graceful and elegant ones is what amounts to a play when adding their stage presence. But they also have some fun adaptations / versions like “relay dances” where they’re lined up and doing their parts while everyone in back goes wild. Dreamcatcher are an amazing group, you won’t regret getting into them. Reason was actually a special fan song for their 6th anniversary in January. They’re not even close to disbanding so don’t worry. All of the members renewed their contracts last year, so we’ll be seeing more of them for several years to come. Regarding if they were a disliked group, not exactly. They do have a pretty inspiring story though. 5 of the members originally debuted in a different group back in 2014, but they did not get any real success. Their company decided to redebut them with 2 more members and with a rock concept. The rock sound was pretty much unheard of in kpop at the time, so the general public of Korea didn’t take them seriously at all. However, they gained a very large and devoted international fanbase which is the reason they have been able to survive this long in the industry. The Korean public has started paying more attention to them recently though, and they got their first music show win in April of last year (which was a big deal because it had been their goal every since debut). So yeah, DC are very grateful to their fans. I’d highly recommend giving their whole discography a listen, as well as react to a guide to Dreamcatcher. The girls are so wonderful and extremely hilarious, some of the most likeable idols in the industry. Welcome to the Dreamworld!!!
No Disbandment-this was a song for the Fans (We are called Insomnias) they announced they re-signed their contracts while at a tour stop in Europe, and you should have heard the crowd Scream (Yeah, I said that on purpose..lol) They are what Rock needed. But curiously they are not so popular with South Koreans (It's getting better) due to past scandals with Rock in the past. Welcome, and you should go back to the very beginning. they Debuted on Friday the 13th with Chase Me.

To answer your question: I don't think Dreamcatcher were ever *hated* necessarily, but they were definitely not appreciated enough and didn't get anywhere near the amount of attention they deserve (which is, of course, because of their unconventional sound, coupled with the fact that they don't have a large, famous company behind them). They only got their first music show win last year, 6 whole years after debut, which is insane, but I'm glad that they're finally more respected and regarded more highly as of late. I'm also happy they've had such a die hard, dedicated fanbase all these years so they could keep going (they've actually just renewed their contracts recently, so they're not going anywhere anytime soon). They're one of the most talented girlgroups, in my opinion, and even though I've only started to get into them about a year and a half ago or so, I've fallen in love HARD and I don't think there's any going back at this point lol. That's okay, as long as you are interested in finding out more about their music and more importantly, about these awesome ladies themselves. I normally prefer to get people to react to DC's songs from their debut and work their way up to present but this will work. There is nothing like K-Pop Music Videos. Currently, South Korea has THE BEST methods all the way around in filming MV's and they have some of the best writers and producers on the planet. Some Idols are writers themselves, such as your Main Rapper crush, Dami. She writes her own rap parts to all of the title songs and she has also written a couple of songs that she does solo. She produces, too. She's 'The Brain' of the group and an introvert. The dual-personalities of all these ladies are astonishing. On stage and filming for MV's, these seven are total bad-asses. Behind the scenes and off stage, they are actually adorable goofballs. Yes, 'Reason' is for their fans, InSomnia. The group released it for their Sixth Anniversary of debut as DreamCatcher (I personally did not totally cry but I sure came close, and some fans really did cry). DC's climb has been a really long, hard road for them because they are THE Black Sheep of K-Pop groups. The fact that they are a Girl Group that does Rock and Metal has hindered them in their success. Well, sort-of; it's really the wealthy old men of Korea who don't like Rock or Metal that has hindered them (and there is even evidence of sabotage in one case...). Korea is still heavily sexist as far as how things are run; women are still looked at as if they are 'less important' than men. But even if a Boy Group had DC's Rock/ Metal sound behind them, it would still have been a difficult road. Koreans still see Rock and Metal as 'The Devil's Music'. It seems like Korea is stuck in what the United States was like in the 1940's -50's. Things are improving, but SLOWLY. You are awesome. :)

Kim Taeyeon is the leader of Girls Generation (also called SNSD; they have been around since 2007) but she did her first solo project called 'I' and it swept me away. I got interested in other groups because of the comments under that one video. Of course I still like other music (always have had very eclectic taste in music) but DreamCatcher is so diverse in their styles that it hardly matters just (look up their B-Sides, they literally have something for everybody). DC has become my Ultimate Group to listen to and I do not even speak Korean! I am VERY SLOWLY picking up words here-and-there and I can sometimes even read their names. Too bad my memory is shot these days or I would already be much more literate...

Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 "Vision" is part 2 of the Apocalypse trilogy. I believe they are showing us the perspective from the future in this series, showing us how the earth looks like when we keep acting like we do. While "Maison" was talking about the destruction of the environment, here they seem to be talking about the destruction due to war. I don't know if that was the idea from the beginning, but Putin's aggression definitely played a role here. In one set they even dance in front of what looks sort of like a huge trident, which is the coat of arms of Ukraine (could be a coincidence though, or this is me seeing things). It could be about North Korea as well after all. It is easy to see how the conflict in Ukraine could result in global destruction. It's just a push of a button away. Note that Dami presses a launch button, but it's not for nukes. It's for spreading their message, their vision. Peace. To be heard all around the world. The song is also a call for action, to stand together against aggressors and those who are destroying the planet out of greed. There is not much difference between someone leading an army or a corporation, if the result is destruction. Still, Dami said the intention is to resolve the problems in a peaceful way. So, what do we do? There is no easy answer. Dami has an outfit that shows that perfectly. One half is an innocent bridal dress, the other half is simply badass. What I know is that any aggressor only listens to very limited diplomacy, and they need to know that the good in the world is ready and willing to fight them if needed. Whoever the aggressor is, we are more than them. They need to know they will never succeed, the only option is peace. By the way, my interpretation could be completely wrong, any other theory is perfectly valid as well. Musically, it's heavier than Maison, and I feel it fits the subject matter very well. It sounds aggressive and heavy, but also soft and vulnerable. There is the duality again. And I love the fake keychange at the end of the chorus, the crazy bass and the guitar in the bridge. All in all this is a fantastic release! Boca means "mouth" in Spanish and Portuguese and is part 2 of the Dystopia trilogy, which deals with bullying and hate comments, in particular the online variant ("A trick behind a mask, a ridiculous freak" from Scream). Boca has the lines "Why do you fill your precious time with hate" and "Too many angels dying now", which points to the effects those comments can have. Several Kpop idols have committed suicide in recent years, most likely because of cyber-bullying, but this is also about all the unnamed people who suffer from online bullies. A girlgroup tackling such a subject impresses the hell out of me. They literally go to war in this video and tell haters to go and shut their "Boca" in the lyrics. And the song is absolutely awesome! Who said you can't have three different musical genres in one song? "Reason" is the fan-song for Dreamcatcher's 6th anniversary. I can't even begin to describe how proud I am of them. They're flexing their rock and vocal muscles, while all three rappers make an appearance. InSomnia might be lifting them up, but they should know, they are also carrying us. Happy 6th anniversary, Dreamcatcher! Can you imagine this song live? With InSomnia going Whoooo-whoooaaa and them singing over it? 😊 I wouldn't be surprised if the animations were done by a fan, I seem to recognize the style. Whoever did them, they did a great job. I see the book from the Nightmare arc, the mask from Scream, the gun from R.o.S.E Blue, the gagged bust from Boca, the cup from Odd Eye, the hand through the mirror from Good Night and the clock from Piri. Musically, I am in heaven. I'm a metalhead and I love the song. AND THAT RIFF! 🤘🎸 Obviously the song is an absolute anthem! Don't worry about them disbanding. They just resigned with their company, which is another positive and not that usual in Kpop. They are like a family, treating the girls well. The CEO is like a dad to them, he even said once if Dreamcatcher failed, he would become a cucumber farmer to support the girls.

We actually weren't sure for a while if they would renew their contract till 2022 because they hadn't gotten a single win till Maison which was their 11th Korean comeback. They currently hold the record for the longest time between debut and first win. They've been active as deukae (their nickname) since January 13th, 2017 but 5 of the 7 girls were active as Minx since 2014. Also Maison-Vision- and the upcoming May comeback are part of their apocalypse trilogy; maison dealt with themes of global environmental devastation, vision included war and conflict along with the wasteland theme and Reason is one of their 3 fan-songs (full moon, over the sky *this includes sign language in the choreo* and reason). I recommend checking out their live stage from apocalypse broken halloween of their bside Fairytale, its more pop rock but its one of their best songs.
Also yes, to answer your question, they were not well known or liked in Korea for many years because they didn't do mainstream concepts and didn't follow the trends, they just did their own thing. They were mostly known internationally. They actually just won their first award last year. Koreans really started to wake up and notice them after Boca and then they really seemed to take note after Maison (which is the song that they released before Vision). They were also the first kpop girl group to perform at Primavera in Spain last summer. They have not disbanded, they just finished a US tour and they have a comeback slated for May! :)

Reason is a fan song for their 6 anniversary, so yes it is quite an emotional song for the fans (InSomnia is the fandom name). Like many of the comments before mentioned, dreamcatcher is really under appreciated. Their journey is definitely not all smooth sailing. they come from a small company(meaning lesser publicity) and with the type of music they are doing that isnt the fave for the korea general public, it make their road even harder since the kpop scene is so competitive and harsh. However, they didnt give up and finally got their first ever win on a music show 5 years after their debut. Their great music, the girls passion for stages and their personality is what make me their fan, and no worries, they have just extended their contract, so they are not going anywhere, in fact they are actually going to have a comeback this coming may. dreamcatcher \:D/ not just rock, but all types of music combined and performed in ways you likely haven't heard before. because they rarely revisit a genre/sound used in a previous song, almost all their songs are different. and it's not just the music. they always go one step beyond with their choreo, themes, and story. vision is part 2 of their apocalypse trilogy and is essentially an anti-war song. boca is part 2 of their dystopia trilogy which exposes the dark side of the internet and social media. reason is their 6 anniversary fan song and if you knew their history, that mv is a masterpiece. if you want to do an album listen, do their first full album - dystopia: tree of language. many of their b-sides have accompany videos you can react to in the form of special clips or performance videos. the tree of language album is literally them in a nutshell.
ik im a bit late and someone has probably already explained this but i'll comment anyway. so deukae debuted in 2017 but before that 5 of the girls where in a different group called minx under the same company, but they didn't really gain a lot of attention so they ended up disbanding and it was a really hard emotional process for them bc they really went though a lot. then the company instead of dropping those 5 really talented girls, they took them and debuted them with 2 new members under a new group name and a 180º concept change. fortunately the dark concept pulled international kpop fans attention and they immediately did better than before with minx. however, maybe bc of korea's culture, they really never managed to gain a lot of popularity in their country, they even had ppl in te industry telling them they would never succeed in korea if they kept doing their signature rock sound and those types of comments hurt them ofc (siyeon talked about this in an interview). last year they finally managed to snatch their 1st win in a music show, it took them 6 years and it was the record for the longest any group took to win their 1st win EVER. they fought a lot to be where they are now since they came from a small company and bc they seemed to always purposely be put aside and ignored by the kpop industry (they didn't even get invited to end-year award shows until last year too), and besides all this, they always showed confidence in their music refusing to change their sound, just trusting their fans and themselves for everything to work out, and, in the end, it really did work out.

Yeah, they've been around for a long time. If you count the Minx era, some of them have been together for almost a decade, which is a lifetime in kpop. They have been through disbandment, rebranding, too many award snubs to count, and the temporary loss of one of the members during COVID (she's back now though and better than ever). And rather than tearing them apart this has solidified them into one of the most cohesive, professional and distinct groups in the industry. So yes, they are experienced, and yes they absolutely have something to prove.

Literally nobody else sounds like Dreamcatcher, they've had the same composers since they debuted 6 years ago and their sound has only gotten cooler over time as it's progressed from straight rock to rock fusion. Thank you for the Dreamcatcher reaction. Boca is the second song in the dystopian trilogy. Part 1 is Scream and Part 3 is Odd Eye. Reason is a fan song. Don't worry about disbanding. They are scheduled to make a comeback in May. fun fact: They actually have a history of disbanding 7 years ago.

DC is such a comfort group for me. They had such a rocky road to where they are now but have always been true to their sound even when it wasn’t popular. They’ve managed to build on of the most dedicated canvases that exists today. I even went to a Dreamcatcher anniversary event not too long ago and the cafe was packed!
Like Jiu (the leader) once said: "Dreamcatcher is like a black hole, once you're in it you can't get out!"
They have stayed true to themselves since debut, for over 6 years going strong, doing what they wanted and having the freedom to try new things. All of this was possible thanks to their love for Insomnias (fandom name). REASON is the perfect example that shows how thankful they are for the fans and that everything they've achieved so far is also thanks to Insomnia.
Since the beginning Dreamcatcher has struggled to climb their way to success which is natural coming from a smaller company, with a different concept and different sound compared to other groups. If you fall deeper into the black hole you'll find hidden gems everywhere, from videos to songs, to covers and performances as well as funny moments. They are 7 adorable genuine human beings who sincerely apreciate every single moment they spend with fans and working as artists.
Today Dreamcatcher is the well known "Face of rock in kpop", won first place twice on music shows, won several awards including one from a major award show, many sold-out concerts, first Kpop group to perform at Primavera Sound, over 100 Million streams on Korean platforms, way over 1 billion streams (youtube+spotify combined), almost a million seller and the list goes on and on....
They've just renewed their contracts last year so Dreamcatcher might just stick around for a bit longer and we'll be here to support them as always! I hope you can join us on this journey ^^ Better late than never.

Yeah bro this is THAT group. Why they aren't at the top is beyond me. Cultural reasons? Who knows but they have everything you want in K-pop and then they add some more. Personality, Vocals, Choreo, Visuals, Production this list is endless. They've had struggles and a lot of their later songs relate to standing up, moving forward etc. Their debut singles, which are also amazing, span like a 6-7 song theme that is darker but really interesting. Maybe that's why didn't get wins early on but keep going you won't be disappointed.

From going to their tours these past months I came to find out the diversity in Dreamcatcher fandon the common types of community I saw are like grandpa's I've saw a some good chunk of granpaws here and there there were so cute,gamer boys obviously,the lesbians you do not want to mess with,a couple of gay men also the ones you do not want to mess with😂,gymbros I'm actually surprised at the amount of gym bros and gym sis at the concert holding lightstick and all that, rock and roll dads with all the tattoos and beard and leather jacket like it was so diverse and ofc the OGs the fans from Minx eras everyone was just co-existing in that hall all excited for Dreamcatcher all having fun from all sorts of different walks of life, interests and community its just that as unique of a group the girls are they gain such unique collection of fan based as well I guess thats what I'am trying articulate

About the things you said during Reason...
First of all luckily are not disbanding😅
Now let me explain some things about them:
They as a group existed since 2014 and were called Minx (which was formed by 5 out of 7 of them)
The company with them was following the trends of the moment (such as cute, teen crush, summer vibes)
The members at the time weren't enthusiastic about it.
Eventually the company decided to make them disband as Minx and the girls suffered from it (they felt depressed, missing the stage and support from people, couldn't even listen to music without having an hard time).
In 2017 the company had the wonderful idea to rebrand them as Dreamcatcher, adding 2 new members and changing completely their concept and sound (something that the girls would have gladly enjoyed performing, and also that would help them show more their talent).
And so they started having this dark, elegant, horror creepy concept with music that had rock elements in it.
Many people in the kpop industry didn't quite understand this odd choice (since rock is not as appreciated in Korea as in other coutries such as Japan or the western music industry) and told them multiple times "to become popular you need to change your sound" (also because koreans were not used to see such powerful performances and dark vibes from girlgroups, which were expected to be more cute/sexy instead of this).
So basically Dreamcatcher started gaining attention more internationally than in Korea.
+ in the kpop industry its difficult to become big without winning any prizes in shows
(idk if you already know it but whenever a group debuts/comeback they perform for a few weeks to promote themselves and if they win against the others they have bigger possibilities to be invited to award shows, programms, have sponsors and higher budget)
So basically Dreamcatcher had a very hard time in having a 1st win to these shows because either they comeback on the worst times and had to go against super popular groups or they were rigged.
After years of fatigue from them and also from us fans who were doing the impossible to give them this win, they finally got their 1st and 2nd win
(they had to wait 5 long years)
Since the debut they gave their everything with perfect performances and never lacking in energy but had to wait A LOT before starting to gain attention from a big public
(That's what the stairs in the Reason video represented)
And at the end of the day they and us fans are always cheering for each others and trying to do our best..

Thankfully, they’re growing anyway and gaining popularity comeback after comeback, i have high hopes they will soon be recognized the way they deserve to be! 🫶

I don't know the whole story, but from what I understand some rock groups, let's say, got a little out of hand at their concerts. I've heard stories of band members flashing their junk on stage and things of a similar nature.
South Korea, as you may know, is a VERY conservative country. The general population wasn't going to stand for that type of shenanigans (for lack of a better word) and the government was like "Nope, not gonna have that in our country". As a result rock groups, and rock music in general, ended up with a severe stigma in SK.
Then along comes Dreamcatcher with it's rock influenced music and a dark concept (also not very popular in SK at the time). Add in the fact that they came from a very small, relatively unknown company and, like the staircase in the video, it's been a long hard climb to get to where they are now. Up until the last year or so, they've been FAR more popular in the west than they have been in SK and we, like Pat, had to basically stumble upon them by accident.
@@singnieak4764 Oh yes. There was a time when the government confiscated Guitars (due to anti-govt. protest songs) and banned Rock on TV. a Punk band exposed themselves during a show. It's really a crazy hate/Love relationship.

That combination never exists before, and they are still the only one. If you know a bit of kpop, you know it is not easy to survive even in the mainstream. Yet Dreamcacther sent to the niche market, and rock sound is not even something can easily accepted by general people in korea. Among kpop idols, they are actually quite well-known and respected though. Their first win on Korean TV music show gained after 1924 days since debut (more than 5 years), that shows how hard it was for them to break through the local market even though they already gained huge fanbase internationally since the first year.
Other groups would've changed their concept in the first 3 years or so if they don't get the expected results, but Dreamcather perseveres and even further evolve their sound.
Yeah it is not easy to get into the mainstream unless you go with the trendy sound. I love how they stick to what they know and love. So authentic

Dreamcatcher are my comfort these days. It’s been about two years since I got into them, and it was the best decision i ever made. I’ve never been so invested in a group before in my life.
Not only are they extremely talented, but they are warm, lighthearted and very funny individuals.
They’ve had their struggles (it took 1,923 days to achieve their first win), but they fought hard and never gave up, and now they are more successful than ever.
No worries about them disbanding - they’ve just recently signed new contracts!
A couple of things I didn't see mentioned in the comments that I read below. Dreamcatcher is known as the Dark Angels of Kpop. When they first debuted they weren't well recieved in Korea, but have since been gaining more and more influence. Being invited to do shows with bigger named actors in South Korea. One of the beautiful things about the "Reason" video, other than each of the ladies portrayed in different outfits from their past songs, is the fact that when they decided to do the animation part of the vid not only did they throw in random set pieces of their past videos, they also based it on a comment made by JiU (the leader). In past interview, she said she viewed Dreamcatcher as "Stair Idols". Meaning that they may not be rushing to the top, but they would continue to try to get through their hardships one stair at a time, always progressing. And, if you hadn't guessed already, the hand that reaches down and lifts them up is the collection of InSomnia's love and support. I've been a fan since their debut and I will continue for as long as they put out content. Love these beautiful and talented ladies.

I felt exactly what you felt my first time hearing them 4 months ago. They quickly became my ult group. I am very impressed that you picked up on their determination and their struggles going against the traditional K-pop scene. They are, in my opinion with the limited groups I have watched, the best K-pop group because they don't sound like Kpop, they sound more like K-rock. Their b-sides show their versatility and tastes, even though this is my first video of yours I am seeing, I am pretty sure you will enjoy all of their songs.Great reaction and looking forward to future videos.

For some good examples of this, watch Insomnicsy's "Dreamcatcher Being Unfiltered Idols" (five episodes, so far), "Dreamcatcher Being Inappropriate" (only three episodes, I think), and "Dreamcatcher Saying Questionable Things". But, there's a lot more in there besides swearing, such as the discussions about who is the supreme pervert of the group.
Actually, just watch everything on Insomnicsy's channel. If you think you love Dreamcatcher now, you'll hit new levels.
Her work on that channel has been invaluable to Insomnias, particularly new ones.
They didn't have a lot of success in korea (overseas took to the rock concept more) for a long time, they went the longest time of any group from debut to finally winning on a music show. But over time little by little they grew, now when any other kpop group does rock, they immediately get mentioned. Most of their singles are Rock or EDM themed, but they have a lot of variety in the b-sides, they do R&B particularly well (Wonderland, And There was No One Left).
Welcome to the Dreamworld. Instant subscribe. Dreamcatcher created a new kind of Kpop and pushed back against the mainstream Kpop agencies that didn't want any change at all. Now, especially in the past year, you see new girl groups coming out and doing things that are very Dreamcatcher. They paved the way with solidarity, tenacity, and hard work, and are now reaping some of the rewards they always deserved. They are much more popular internationally than in Korea, but the fanbase there is growing. They're known in Korea as 'stair idols', like the animation in the video. They've pushed on up one stair at a time and never ever thought of giving up. I highly recommend you watch their dance practice videos. There are no better dancers in Kpop.
Your reactions are really entertaining and engaging, it reminds me of the first time I listened to them and watched their videos. Dreamcatcher used to be a 5 member group called MINX with a cute girly pinky concept, but they came out at the wrong time bc other girl groups from big companies debuted that year and there wasn't a place for a small company group. Years later, the label decided to redebut MINX with a darker, horror concept--Dreamcatcher--with the addition of two members and so the story begins.
Dreamcatcher does story-based concepts, usually come in many parts throughout their title tracks. They have three storylines so far: Nightmare (Chase Me, Goodnight, Fly High, You and I, What, Piri, Breaking Out), Dystopia (Scream, BOCA, Odd Eye) and Apocalypse (MAISON, VISION & ???). They also have stand-alone title tracks like Deja Vu, Rose Blue, BEcause, Over The Sky and their Japanese songs like Endless Night, Eclipse, etc.
I would watch Dystopia first, catch up with Nightmare and wait for Apocalypse ending in May to react to MAISON and the last track of the trilogy.
Nightmare - the girls became nightmares haunting people's dreams.
Dystopia - the three of language has been corrupted by hate. a concept about cyberbullying, especially in the idol industry.
Apocalypse - climate change and pollution have taken over the earth. the powerful goddesses in dreamcatcher beg for help, but ultimately decide to take action themselves.

They’re an older group. They were never hated on (maybe hated on by The Show?), more respected by their peers and kpop fans in general. Reasons why it took them so long to get their first win because the rock sound isn’t popular in South Korea and voting was more difficult to access for international fans back then. They had/have a very inspiring journey
Edit/ they’re not going anywhere soon. They signed a contract extension last fall, so they will be around for a while.

And don't worry, they're not disbanded - they just announced in December that all seven of them jointly renewed their contracts ahead of time and their next comeback is scheduled for May. Yes, they've often been slept on or downright disrespected because of the inclusion of rock style in their music and some members have even said they've been told by other people that if they ever hope to be successful they need to give up on the rock. They have quite a history (which I feel is covered really well in the video "Road to Fame" by insomnicsy here on RUclips), but they're still going strong, all of the members have said they want to continue this style and some said they'd like to lean into it more.
"Vision" is the second entry in their Apocalypse Trilogy, which starts with "Maison" and will end with their comeback this May - it talks about defending the environment and the world that we're destroying. "Boca" is the second their Dystopia Trilogy, which starts with "Scream" and ends with "Odd Eye" - this trilogy talks about cyberbullying and online harassment and how it affects people.

Welcome to the dreamworld. They just celebrated their 6 year anniversary with their fan song reason. They are considered the black sheep of Kpop. With their rock/metal inspired music which isn’t widely accepted in Korea, which is only now starting to change. They are definately experienced and have a chip on their shoulder. They hold the record for longest girl group to take to get a first win which took 5 years. They just renewed the contract. Comeback in may. They are the only group I listen to. They have a super diverse discography with their title tracks tending to be more rock. But they own at everything they do.
Yeah I love their sound. So different. So new. So amazing
they are far from disbanding! in fact all 7 girls just resigned their contracts, making them the third girl group in history to do that without losing a member or moving companies! the other two are red velvet and twice, hugely popular groups from incredibly stable companies, this is such an amazing milestone for them god they make me happy

i love the insomnicsy “this is ___ 2021/2022/2023” series! it is a quick look at each member throughout the years and gives you a fun sense of personality and group dynamic among them! and as you can see the series has now been going strong for three years but definitely start with the 2021 (or 2020 i cant quite remember) playlist! insomnicsy is a great fan channel, you should also check out their “dreamcatcher being unfiltered idols” series!

They weren't hated on but they still aren't big in Korea. They have a huge international fan base. They finally got their 1st music show win last year with their song Mansion. This video pretty much shows their struggles (hence the climbing of the staircase) but never giving up on themselves as well as their company and finally reaching the top while being true to themselves with the help of InSomnia (their fandom)
I’m quite new to Dreamcatcher and saw lots of the videos recommended in reaction videos but what I really wish people had mentioned are the self made MVs Sahara, Break the Wall and Poison love. They really show off the awesome bond and fun the members have.
And of course as a fan of Kingdom the awesome K-Zombies version of Boca was mind blowing.
I loved loved loved your reaction. You have summed up what Dreamcatcher is all about and picked up on so much just from these three MVs. These ladies are just absolutely phenomenal talents.. the vocals, the choreo, the stage presence is top tier. The icing on the cake is that they are absolutely hilarious, goofy, humble, chaotic people who keep it real and they have an incredible bond with one another. They are truly the underdogs in Kpop and their story is quite inspiring.
Their title tracks are rock inspired but their discography is really diverse, and they pull off any genre truly.

You read them right when you said they’re experienced but have something to prove. They’ve been around for six years now but it was only last year they finally got a win on a music show in Korea. They’re definitely appreciated more internationally than they are in their home country. Their rock sound isn’t really appreciated in Korea and they’ve definitely been told they should change it before.
Also made me laugh that you mentioned how much Handong looks like Taeyeon immediately, shouted “yes she does!” at my tv.

One of my favorite groups, bro. Scrappy underdogs from a small company that actually are like a real family. And they are FUNNY.
People won’t give them their due, but they’re actually one of the best live performers in the game. Which of the 3rd Gen girl groups are actually still ACTIVE active? Blackpink, Twice, Red Velvet, Mamamoo…and DREAMCATCHER. They survived with just their hard work and guts. No big company backing.

Man, there's nothing better than seeing someone go into a Dreamcatcher reaction completely blind and watching them spend of the time completely unable to articulate what they're feeling. As someone who's been following the group for around 2 years now, that feeling doesn't really ever go away. You've discovered an extremely talented group of women who are very passionate about what they do and about their fans, InSomnia, who support them.
I apologize in advance for the info dump but wanted to give you some context on Dreamcatcher and on the song's you've seen. Dreamcatcher are genre benders and they're always finding new and interesting ways to blend various genres together. Their title-tracks always have a rock or metal influence in their production and that level of influence varies from release to release but it's always there. Their B-sides are some of the most diverse in any group I've ever heard, in or out of KPop. They have songs that fall into just about any genre you'd want to listen to including R&B, Jazz, Reggae, Funk, Trap, Rock, Trance, EDM, and much more. They have two main producers, Leez and Ollounder, who are also part of Ateez's production team. The members themselves also have several writing and composition credits on many of their songs.
As far as concepts go, Dreamcatcher doesn't really do cute, at least not on their title tracks. With that said, 5 of the 7 seven members of Dreamcatcher used to be a different group called Minx that debuted in 2014. Minx was a typical kpop girl group with a cute concept and due to an oversaturated market and some poor decisions by their management company their initial concept failed. Instead of disbanding the group the company, Happy Face Entertainment, decided to re-debut them with a new concept. They added two new members and on January 13th, a Friday, Dreamcatcher was born. Dreamcatcher's concept was a complete 180 from Minx. Where Minx was cute and fun and lighthearted, Dreamcatcher was dark and serious and the songs they created addressed real issues.
As of right now, there are three main storylines for Dreamcatcher. The Nightmare series, the Dystopia trilogy, and the Apocalypse trilogy. They also have a lot of standalone title tracks that are not tied to any overarching narrative.
------Nightmare Series------
The Nightmare Series was Dreamcatcher's debut storyline, and the songs are heavily influenced by J-rock. The lyrical content of the songs addresses the fears or nightmares that idols and people experience in life. Societal expectations, loneliness, feeling lost and unsure of your direction in life, depression, suicide, and much more. The MV's tell a story of how the girls became cursed as Nightmares and their journey to try and break free of the Nightmare world. Personally, I also think the Nightmare series serves as a mirror for the girls own journey from Minx to Dreamcatcher. All of the fear and pain that comes from pouring your heart into something and then failing at it had to have been traumatic. Then to completely re-invent yourself so you can try again, all the while knowing that it probably won't work. For a group to re-debut, especially with all the same members, almost never happens. Let alone with a concept thats so outside of the mainstream. A Rock/Horror concept was unheard of and only recently have other groups in kpop started to come out with similar concepts.

Fly High - This is a prequel to Chase Me. This MV shows the member being cursed as Nightmares and you'll notice in the production that the song is much poppier and lighter than Chase Me or Good Night, but it has these stabs of darkness throughout and the MV and song gets darker and heavier as it progresses. This to me lines up with the theory that it's a parallel or mirror to their journey.

Piri - This is the 'official' end of the Nightmare series.
Breaking Out - This is their first Japanese release and an Unofficial ending to the Nightmare series that's a little more hopeful.
------Dystopia Trilogy------
The Dystopia trilogy Is their second storyline, and it addresses online bullying, hate speech, calling out haters and telling them to shut their boca (mouth), and the realization that social media is just a sweet lie covering up a darker (dystopian) reality. This trilogy came out not long after several idols committed suicide due to online bullying and hate comments and I feel pretty confident that its creation was at least partially influenced by those events. Boca is the second part of this storyline, and the song is literally Dreamcatcher telling haters to shut their mouths or they'll do it for them.

Their newest storyline is the Apocalypse Trilogy. This trilogy isn't complete yet, but they just announced last week that there would be a comeback in May to finish up this trilogy. This trilogy seems to be addressing the more existential treats that we face as humanity with the first song, Maison, being a cry for help and a call to action on Climate Change. To hold those responsible for the damage they are causing to our planet and to stop pretending that everything is okay. The second song in this trilogy, Vision, seems to be a challenge to stand for what you believe in. To do the work necessary to bring about a brighter future. So that we can see the Vision that Dreamcatcher has of a better world.

Reason is Dreamcatcher's 6-year anniversary Fan song and is a love letter to their fandom, InSomnia. They've had a hard road to get to where they are and, in this song, they're acknowledging that they've only been able to succeed due to the love and support that their fans have given them. The clips in the MV of them winning that trophy was from their song Maison and their first music show win, 1923 days after debut and 2771 days for the original 5 Minx members. You're not the only reactor to feel a certain type of way during that song. I've seen reactors who's first reaction to Dreamcatcher was Reason and they teared up, which is just a testiment to the passion and emotion present in the song. Only Dreamcatcher can make a song that makes you simultaneously want to hand bang and cry at the same time.

Yes, dreamcatcher is an experienced group, just over 6 years but they do have a lot to prove, having gotten their first music show wins just last year.
Fun fact. Vision is their most recent title track and it is believed by many to be about saving the planet. Their second most recent title track is very transparently about saving the planet as well.

No Dreamcatcher isnt disbanding anytime soon. They actually just renewed their cotract and have a comeback planned for next month as the 3rd and final part of the apocalypse series.
Second, its okay that youre late to the party. Now you get to enjoy some amazing content. Theres honestly such a large abundance of content that id love to see your reaction to. Their personalities are even more amazing than the MVs. So much to love.
Lastly, yes Dreamcatcher wasnt a generally accepted K-pop group within South Korea specifically. To start they had much more overseas success and thats still true to this day. Theres some conspiracies about they being cheated out of a show win with evidence to back it up. Its sad to see but it just goes to show the perseverance these girls have. I cant think of another group whos as strong as Dreamcatcher when it comes to heart. Thankfully they did get their first win with the title song Maison. In the Reason MV some of the sad/heartfelt moments are actually happy tears after finally getting what they deserved.

21:47 Not disbanding, in fact they all renewed their contracts with the company about a year earlier than required which shows their commitment and also how well the company has been treating them.
But they have had a hard road, harder than most in fact. Debuting with a more cute concept, not breaking through with it, facing disbandment and then redebuting again with a totally different concept, having an award show rigged against them, struggling to get recognition in an industry that doesn't like change when it comes to the Rock influence and through it all they stuck it out. They won their first award last year (the song Maison), after 5 years of being Dreamcatcher. Needless to say, Reason hits pretty heavy for us Insomnia especially the ones who have been fans since the early days.

It's never too late to get into Dreamcatcher :D For me, they have Ult group status, at the same level as Girls Generation.
They have so many songs under their belt already, and so much behind the scenes content, that it's a little bit of a choose your own musical adventure. Their title tracks are generally rock-infused, but their other tracks cover a wide range of genres that really showcases their talent. Feel like some Jazz, Funk, EDM, City Pop, Ballads? They got you covered.
Their concerts are 11/10, I've only seen the online ones, but definitely want to see them live in person one day.

Glad you enjoyed your introduction to them, and I alllways look forward to dance practice / performance vids; most of their choreography is art in motion -like the music, they blend sharp and weighted moves with graceful and elegant ones is what amounts to a play when adding their stage presence. But they also have some fun adaptations / versions like “relay dances” where they’re lined up and doing their parts while everyone in back goes wild. Covers are all great too, vocal and dance, and a few with both.

Dreamcatcher are an amazing group, you won’t regret getting into them. Reason was actually a special fan song for their 6th anniversary in January. They’re not even close to disbanding so don’t worry. All of the members renewed their contracts last year, so we’ll be seeing more of them for several years to come.
Regarding if they were a disliked group, not exactly. They do have a pretty inspiring story though. 5 of the members originally debuted in a different group back in 2014, but they did not get any real success. Their company decided to redebut them with 2 more members and with a rock concept. The rock sound was pretty much unheard of in kpop at the time, so the general public of Korea didn’t take them seriously at all. However, they gained a very large and devoted international fanbase which is the reason they have been able to survive this long in the industry. The Korean public has started paying more attention to them recently though, and they got their first music show win in April of last year (which was a big deal because it had been their goal every since debut). So yeah, DC are very grateful to their fans.
I’d highly recommend giving their whole discography a listen, as well as react to a guide to Dreamcatcher. The girls are so wonderful and extremely hilarious, some of the most likeable idols in the industry. Welcome to the Dreamworld!!!

But curiously they are not so popular with South Koreans (It's getting better) due to past scandals with Rock in the past. To answer your question: I don't think Dreamcatcher were ever *hated* necessarily, but they were definitely not appreciated enough and didn't get anywhere near the amount of attention they deserve (which is, of course, because of their unconventional sound, coupled with the fact that they don't have a large, famous company behind them). They only got their first music show win last year, 6 whole years after debut, which is insane, but I'm glad that they're finally more respected and regarded more highly as of late. I'm also happy they've had such a die hard, dedicated fanbase all these years so they could keep going (they've actually just renewed their contracts recently, so they're not going anywhere anytime soon).
They're one of the most talented girlgroups, in my opinion, and even though I've only started to get into them about a year and a half ago or so, I've fallen in love HARD and I don't think there's any going back at this point lol.

There is nothing like K-Pop Music Videos. Currently, South Korea has THE BEST methods all the way around in filming MV's and they have some of the best writers and producers on the planet.
Some Idols are writers themselves, such as your Main Rapper crush, Dami. She writes her own rap parts to all of the title songs and she has also written a couple of songs that she does solo. She produces, too. She's 'The Brain' of the group and an introvert.
The dual-personalities of all these ladies are astonishing. On stage and filming for MV's, these seven are total bad-asses. Behind the scenes and off stage, they are actually adorable goofballs.
Yes, 'Reason' is for their fans, InSomnia. The group released it for their Sixth Anniversary of debut as DreamCatcher (I personally did not totally cry but I sure came close, and some fans really did cry).
DC's climb has been a really long, hard road for them because they are THE Black Sheep of K-Pop groups. The fact that they are a Girl Group that does Rock and Metal has hindered them in their success. Well, sort-of; it's really the wealthy old men of Korea who don't like Rock or Metal that has hindered them (and there is even evidence of sabotage in one case...). Korea is still heavily sexist as far as how things are run; women are still looked at as if they are 'less important' than men.
But even if a Boy Group had DC's Rock/ Metal sound behind them, it would still have been a difficult road. Koreans still see Rock and Metal as 'The Devil's Music'. It seems like Korea is stuck in what the United States was like in the 1940's -50's. Things are improving, but SLOWLY.

I got hooked and dragged down this amazing rabbit-hole in 2015 by a single voice.
Kim Taeyeon is the leader of Girls Generation (also called SNSD; they have been around since 2007) but she did her first solo project called 'I' and it swept me away. I got interested in other groups because of the comments under that one video.
Of course I still like other music (always have had very eclectic taste in music) but DreamCatcher is so diverse in their styles that it hardly matters just (look up their B-Sides, they literally have something for everybody).
DC has become my Ultimate Group to listen to and I do not even speak Korean! I am VERY SLOWLY picking up words here-and-there and I can sometimes even read their names. Too bad my memory is shot these days or I would already be much more literate...

Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉
"Vision" is part 2 of the Apocalypse trilogy. I believe they are showing us the perspective from the future in this series, showing us how the earth looks like when we keep acting like we do. While "Maison" was talking about the destruction of the environment, here they seem to be talking about the destruction due to war. I don't know if that was the idea from the beginning, but Putin's aggression definitely played a role here. In one set they even dance in front of what looks sort of like a huge trident, which is the coat of arms of Ukraine (could be a coincidence though, or this is me seeing things). It could be about North Korea as well after all.
It is easy to see how the conflict in Ukraine could result in global destruction. It's just a push of a button away. Note that Dami presses a launch button, but it's not for nukes. It's for spreading their message, their vision. Peace. To be heard all around the world. The song is also a call for action, to stand together against aggressors and those who are destroying the planet out of greed. There is not much difference between someone leading an army or a corporation, if the result is destruction. Still, Dami said the intention is to resolve the problems in a peaceful way.
So, what do we do? There is no easy answer. Dami has an outfit that shows that perfectly. One half is an innocent bridal dress, the other half is simply badass. What I know is that any aggressor only listens to very limited diplomacy, and they need to know that the good in the world is ready and willing to fight them if needed. Whoever the aggressor is, we are more than them. They need to know they will never succeed, the only option is peace.
By the way, my interpretation could be completely wrong, any other theory is perfectly valid as well.
Musically, it's heavier than Maison, and I feel it fits the subject matter very well. It sounds aggressive and heavy, but also soft and vulnerable. There is the duality again. And I love the fake keychange at the end of the chorus, the crazy bass and the guitar in the bridge. All in all this is a fantastic release!
Boca means "mouth" in Spanish and Portuguese and is part 2 of the Dystopia trilogy, which deals with bullying and hate comments, in particular the online variant ("A trick behind a mask, a ridiculous freak" from Scream). Boca has the lines "Why do you fill your precious time with hate" and "Too many angels dying now", which points to the effects those comments can have. Several Kpop idols have committed suicide in recent years, most likely because of cyber-bullying, but this is also about all the unnamed people who suffer from online bullies. A girlgroup tackling such a subject impresses the hell out of me. They literally go to war in this video and tell haters to go and shut their "Boca" in the lyrics. And the song is absolutely awesome! Who said you can't have three different musical genres in one song?
"Reason" is the fan-song for Dreamcatcher's 6th anniversary. I can't even begin to describe how proud I am of them. They're flexing their rock and vocal muscles, while all three rappers make an appearance. InSomnia might be lifting them up, but they should know, they are also carrying us. Happy 6th anniversary, Dreamcatcher!

I wouldn't be surprised if the animations were done by a fan, I seem to recognize the style. Whoever did them, they did a great job. I see the book from the Nightmare arc, the mask from Scream, the gun from R.o.S.E Blue, the gagged bust from Boca, the cup from Odd Eye, the hand through the mirror from Good Night and the clock from Piri.
Musically, I am in heaven. I'm a metalhead and I love the song. AND THAT RIFF! 🤘🎸 Obviously the song is an absolute anthem!
Don't worry about them disbanding. They just resigned with their company, which is another positive and not that usual in Kpop. They are like a family, treating the girls well. The CEO is like a dad to them, he even said once if Dreamcatcher failed, he would become a cucumber farmer to support the girls.

We actually weren't sure for a while if they would renew their contract till 2022 because they hadn't gotten a single win till Maison which was their 11th Korean comeback. They currently hold the record for the longest time between debut and first win. They've been active as deukae (their nickname) since January 13th, 2017 but 5 of the 7 girls were active as Minx since 2014. Also Maison-Vision- and the upcoming May comeback are part of their apocalypse trilogy; maison dealt with themes of global environmental devastation, vision included war and conflict along with the wasteland theme and Reason is one of their 3 fan-songs (full moon, over the sky *this includes sign language in the choreo* and reason). I recommend checking out their live stage from apocalypse broken halloween of their bside Fairytale, its more pop rock but its one of their best songs.

Also yes, to answer your question, they were not well known or liked in Korea for many years because they didn't do mainstream concepts and didn't follow the trends, they just did their own thing. They were mostly known internationally. They actually just won their first award last year. Koreans really started to wake up and notice them after Boca and then they really seemed to take note after Maison (which is the song that they released before Vision). They were also the first kpop girl group to perform at Primavera in Spain last summer.
They have not disbanded, they just finished a US tour and they have a comeback slated for May! :)

Reason is a fan song for their 6 anniversary, so yes it is quite an emotional song for the fans (InSomnia is the fandom name). Like many of the comments before mentioned, dreamcatcher is really under appreciated. Their journey is definitely not all smooth sailing. they come from a small company(meaning lesser publicity) and with the type of music they are doing that isnt the fave for the korea general public, it make their road even harder since the kpop scene is so competitive and harsh. However, they didnt give up and finally got their first ever win on a music show 5 years after their debut. Their great music, the girls passion for stages and their personality is what make me their fan, and no worries, they have just extended their contract, so they are not going anywhere, in fact they are actually going to have a comeback this coming may. They were also sabotaged for their "first" win. Their actual first win came before Vision, with their song Maison, after 5 years. So yes, they are experienced yet they have so much to prove. Although they are more relaxed after the first win, they still have a lot of fight in them. You witnessed it with Vision and Reason. They are coming back this May. So get ready.
They just finished their US tour in March. But looking at their activities, they would be doing tours again after May comeback.

not just rock, but all types of music combined and performed in ways you likely haven't heard before. because they rarely revisit a genre/sound used in a previous song, almost all their songs are different. and it's not just the music. they always go one step beyond with their choreo, themes, and story. vision is part 2 of their apocalypse trilogy and is essentially an anti-war song. boca is part 2 of their dystopia trilogy which exposes the dark side of the internet and social media. reason is their 6 anniversary fan song and if you knew their history, that mv is a masterpiece. if you want to do an album listen, do their first full album - dystopia: tree of language. many of their b-sides have accompany videos you can react to in the form of special clips or performance videos. the tree of language album is literally them in a nutshell.

ik im a bit late and someone has probably already explained this but i'll comment anyway. so deukae debuted in 2017 but before that 5 of the girls where in a different group called minx under the same company, but they didn't really gain a lot of attention so they ended up disbanding and it was a really hard emotional process for them bc they really went though a lot. then the company instead of dropping those 5 really talented girls, they took them and debuted them with 2 new members under a new group name and a 180º concept change. fortunately the dark concept pulled international kpop fans attention and they immediately did better than before with minx. however, maybe bc of korea's culture, they really never managed to gain a lot of popularity in their country, they even had ppl in te industry telling them they would never succeed in korea if they kept doing their signature rock sound and those types of comments hurt them ofc (siyeon talked about this in an interview). last year they finally managed to snatch their 1st win in a music show, it took them 6 years and it was the record for the longest any group took to win their 1st win EVER. they fought a lot to be where they are now since they came from a small company and bc they seemed to always purposely be put aside and ignored by the kpop industry (they didn't even get invited to end-year award shows until last year too), and besides all this, they always showed confidence in their music refusing to change their sound, just trusting their fans and themselves for everything to work out, and, in the end, it really did work out.
