I was so excited to hear Lucy say she was a 32 yr old intern because I’m 30 and just graduated Uni and I’m considering getting my MA in fashion and textile history and curating... it makes me feel optimistic to know it’s never too late to follow your passion :)
YOU MADE MY DAY! I feel like that as a 22 year old about to get into the fashion industry lol. I feel like I’m already too old. Thank you for following your dreams! More power to you!
INTERNS should be PAID. They make an effort to work and enterprises should respond with an effort to make their internship sustainable. A will is not always enough for a way, especially is enterprises have the money.
I can't agree with you more. When I graduated from UCLA in Design, I interned for 2 years for a international Interior Designer, he not only paid me, but he promoted me. It was not easy, I was a newly wed, finishing my classes, and working my tail off. Being paid is an important key value and success....especially with large companies who not only have the resources but are in a leadership role that sets standards.
Lisa Sands i am from india and i am eagerly looking out for an internship in london and NYC as stylist. Please do let me know how to apply in such good places
This video inspired me to pursue my dreams. and now I am almost there. at least I am interning at Vogue Germany at this point. Thanks to Alexa and the entire crew behind this video!!
Hi i know you comented a year ago but i am trying to get an inetrship in a fashion magazin a would really appreciate if you could give my your email and i could ask some questions if you have time. Thanks
When talking about people she's exploiting for free labour and their need to feed, shelter and clothe themselves to survive "Where there's a will, there's a way" You mean rich parents, blind luck or theft. Those are the ways.
Why pretend?! Go try doing it! Break the rules, what's the worst thing that can happen? Accept that worst thing, be fine with it and go try. Good luck!! =D
It's called a glass ceiling. It's put into place to ensure that the children of the wealthy have another leg up on the competition of poor kids. She very flippantly disregarded the need for an intern to eat and chalked conjuring money from thin air up to a will finding a way. The way is either blind luck, having rich parents (the jackpot of blind luck) or theft.
Exactly. I live in London and am lucky enough that my parents can pay my rent for a while at least but still can't get an internship to save my life, everyone wants someone with experience to work for free or for next to nothing ffs...
omg I love Alexa so much her charisma is infectious! also this series is just so great like they really answer the questions that people *are*, in fact, asking instead of giving us a lot of the more superficial stuff out there
Oh my god I really want to work at Vogue. This has been seriously my dream since I was a middle school student. My mom works at a huge library so I got the chance to read Chinese Vogue every month. And I kept doing this from my middle school time to the end of my high school time because I went to another city for my University later. I am a Chinese and now working on my graduate program in the US. When I was in college, I started to read British Vogue and American Vogue since I was able to master English. I love British Vogue sooooooooooo much. It has definitely the best style and every time I read it I get so much inspiration. Fashion seriously means interest, inspiration, passion, love, and life to me. I wish I could some day work at British Vogue. I want it so badly, like morn than any other things on the entire world. I wish I could do an intern after I graduate at Vogue, which is everything I want.
@@cecichen1987 omgg, so happy for u!!! Is vogue still ur dream? was it difficult for u to get a job? I haven't graduated yet, but my dream is becoming a fashion journalist and, hopefully someday, work at vogue or other big magazines, but i'm scared of not being able to get there since i'm not from the US and i don't come from a wealthy family ;(
Just found out I've been offered a place , on a magazine journalism and publishing course , When I watched this . This has literally spurred me on even more .
Those 'Future of Fashion' documentaries have been extremely inspirational, educating and gave me more drive to continue dreaming while I'm at University. Questions are answered that I've been asking myself for a long time now. So thank you British Vogue team for showing your world !!
I went for a job interview here last summer when i was fresh out of university. The environment was stiff and, looking around at the unsettling lack of diversity in the room, i was perplexed as to how i’d made it in. Definitely made me wonder how candidates were selected for the position - does one need to know the right people and have private schooling to make it in vogue? Shoutout to John at 0:57 for being so kind and easing the tension on that day!!
I love this episode. It's so interesting to see how many people contribute to the iconic magazine in their own unique way. To hear their stories of how they ended up there. I admire that Vogue recognizes that the industry evolves and that they are embracing these changes and are quite ahead of many industries when it comes to the demands of the digital era. The Social Media bit was my favorite part. Thanks for sharing!
It makes me feel good that some of these people didn't have a end goal or dream job life goal. They just did what they were interested in, learned, failed and found out what works putting the pieces of what is it they will be happy doing as a career and taking a leap of faith to peruse what they want.
I like the vision/vibe from the people at Vogue UK where things are less dramatic but still keeping the fashionable vibe. They are way more approachable and clam comparing the US. They really change my attitude towards fashion; various of styles but still looks good.
I worked with Conde nast which is our biggest clients in NY. I love how they are so self-confident in decision-making, friendly, efficient, and most importantly they understands what professional standards mean. Whenever we had a meeting, the art director just look at our product in I-pad, no lousy PPT, after he or she confirmed, then its good-to-go. Shortest meeting ever.
Thank you for creating this content. I absolutely need it since i'm going to be an intern in marketing analytics for a luxury brand, and this video just explains it all in what i'm actually gonna be doing.
This was so interesting ! I'd like to hear more about how young/fresh recruits got their jobs ! Can a bold young and not very experience candidate still get an interview by just asking for one on the phone ?
Have a trust fund would be the first step b/c you will be working for 40k and at the same time be required to wear a wardrobe that costs about the same or more. Also you should be a size 4 max and at least 5'6". Degrees at a top fashion school will not qualify you, parents with connections will!
Awesome! this series is really amazing, I'm not even a fashion designer or anything fashion related (I'm a graphic designer) but this videos are amazing, very interesting, fun and inspiring.
I mean, I know this was shot several years ago, and perhaps its just the angles and shots chosen for that day ...but saw so few people of color working there... So glad Edward is there now..
Their such a lack of diversity... they talk about futur of fashion but include only a small % of non-white community. fashion doesn't have a religion, neither an ethnic or a race. Fashion is everywhere, in every corner of the globe and is for everyone. We should embrace building a more diverse plateforme for the future industry of fashion...
do you know the hiring % in the publishing company? Not just the Vogue division, but the company that owns Vogue and pretty much every other fashion magazine?
Literally cried , I've been dreaming of working at Vogue ever since I was 10 years old and watched "13 going 30." I am a graphic design student at the University of Florida, please give me an internship!!!!

I should try it. Maybe Anna will think "Take a chance. Hire the smart, fat girl."
hahahah devil wears prada

@Yessu Gabriella, maybe.....Yes both can have 'Gabi' as nickname but Gábor is definitely male while Gabriella is the female equivalent.
if i worked at vogue id wear a ball gown

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT. THANK YOU.
Well it is British Vogue, and Britain is mostly white so I'd say its actually an accurate representation
It's mostly "white" but the percentage of non-"Caucasian" inhabitants, such as people from India, is still pretty high
I was talking fashion in general. Yes Vogue have office in Britain but they operate in every country to make their business grow.
