Alexa Chung Behind The Scenes at Dior Haute Couture - Part One I ALEXACHUNG

- The legendary fashion house that is Christian Dior let me go behind-the-scenes ahead of their Spring 20 Haute Couture show in Paris this week.
In this first part I was given exclusive access to the atelier the day before the show, where I met some of the people that make the magic happen. Not all heroes wear capes, but in this instance if they did, they would be couture ones.

Alexa: I don't think I can touch it...
Guy behind her: 👀👀👀👀👀
I thought i was the only one that noticed 😂 that stare thouugh
Yes! HAHAHAHA! I was about to leave a comment about it 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Omg :)))
He gave her the “touch and I’ll cut you” stare 🤭
Also, Ms. 18.56-19.00! 😂
These people are artists of the highest degree
Literally.
The real stars
They really are. This video actually made me cry because I was so touched.
Absolutely
Hahaha I love how Dior just let her loose in the atelier, without even a translator 😂😂 she recruited one for herself halfway through
She was lucky enough to be there. She can learn French if she looooooves French fashion that much.
Not really, she was with Loïc Prigent who is a wonderful documentary maker who does a lot in the fashion world and is hilarious.
ptardieubaker he didn't seem to have been hired to be translator though, just ended up falling into it haha. He seemed timid at some points, which is understandable. Not all bilingual people are comfortable translating
@@randomnessnessnes As both a bilingual person and a translator I totally agree with you, being bilingual is not the same as being a translator but Loïc Prigent does actually make videos in English. My reading of this is different from yours, I think he's letting her take centre stage and being discreet🙂
A translator ? I thought she spoke French ... Oh thats why she did not speak french in the video.
Thanks for bringing your wit and charm to the Dior Ateliers, Alexa, we loved having you! We hope you enjoyed learning all about the #DiorCouture savoir-faire from our petites mains.
thanks for having her!
We love to see Loïc also!
Christian Dior ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Christian Dior j’adore le color misty pistachio
I have been sewing for years with some formal training in highschool (I teach kids how to sew now). I am skilled at pattern drafting and dress making. Can I be a petite mains for you?! Please, it is my dream!
"i feel like you speak english" me awkwardly approaching random strangers the first day of college
Me the next winter semester while on Erasmus 😂
I am glad Alexa got to be the one to do this tour because I believe she is actually the only one who could pull this off the way she did; super confident, super respectful and super appreciative of the workers at Dior. I choose to stan this woman forever. Congrats on the AMAZING content you bring to this channel, I'm always amazed ♥️
Lillian Lins I agree, she isn’t a showy person so she really let them and their work shine.
I mean she’s incredibly charismatic, the workers warmed up to her immediately but she wasn’t trying to make it about her. She knew it was a great honour to be there. Loved it!
Nice comment - spot on xx
You should look up Loic Prigent. He’s a very famous influencer who is always behind the scenes of all these fashion brands.
I love the authentic awkwardness. It’s quite refreshing compared to the other competent, scripted, and stale fashion videos.
These talented people deserve more recognition!
They got a lot in Dior and I
I mean.... That why paying those prices for those clothes make sense. To pay those people.
A few years ago, the museum of decorative arts in Paris held a retrospective of Dior’s work and there was an entire section dedicated to the atelier space. It was beautiful.
they work in Dior, what more recognition than that??
Everytime I watch a fashion doc and they go behind the scenes to the ateliers, I notice that the staff seem very close - like a family and appear to genuinely enjoy their work - even during deadline period. It really goes to show how wonderful the work environment must be for them, even under the stress of having only a day to construct entire collections. These people really deserve their props. They're incredibly talented, hard working and are the wheels that keep the fashion vehicle turning. This was such a really entertaining, enlightening and heartfelt video. I loved seeing how Alexa was able to communicate with these great people on such a personal level and make them laugh.
It's so cute to witness, I wish all clothing could be produced like that. So much talent and support in one studio.
You can tell they adore what they do and if they each do well then they all do well so the support is not only nice but crucial
As someone who has worked in fashion/couture in Paris for 40 years I can tell you that you spend a LOT more time with collègues in the workroom than with you family ! During collections it's a seven day week and often 12 to 14 hour days ! One collection I worked on I spent 27 hours straight on the collection on the last day and was too exhausted to go to the show ( Louis Vuitton)
@@TheFiown you are a legend. I have so much respect for you and others in your craft.
@@TheFiown I could only dream of doing this, I feel like I would love it. how did you get your start?
As a French person, this was both so interesting and adorable (seeing their passion, how much they still love their jobs, as well as Alexa’s French of course!)
This certainly makes me understand the cost of couture. Nice.
I am screamiiiiiing 1:50 the way this guy was ready to check her! he was like you better not try me today honey
Ahhh love how everyone seemed to LOVE their jobs, even with those crazy deadlines. Loved seeing the BTS, because we forget who actually makes those masterpieces!
I'm not blind neither short sighted but I watched this whole video with my eyes glued to the screen, literally. The work that is behind haute couture never ceases to amaze me
Daniela Cruces Pérez me too!!!!
"Flamingo Money" Oh Alexa, you are tres fantastique!!
Loic gives Alexa more confidence and loosens up her English uprightness. The people at Dior are France’s national treasure. Wonderful to see!
I love watching documentaries like this. Puts fast fashion to shame. Alexa is so kind.
I have such respect for ppl like this. I couldn’t help but smile throughout the video. I just wished I could have seen just a sampling of the hand sewing. Thank you so much for sharing this and highlighting the true hero’s and heroines of all fashion weeks!
Doutzen Kroes was also invited to the atelier, but I love how this interview felt much more in depth and real (and of course funny but that's a given at her videos) because Alexa really tried to connect with the different tailors! Great content, thank you!
This was delightful from beginning to end. All of the people were beautifully kind and talented. I love how Alexa navigated through the Atelier with respect and humor. Loved watching this!
Jamal seemed so lovely! So willing to explain everything and very genuine, what a wonderful mentor. These people are so skilled and talented!
these people are the real artists, and i’m so thankful for alexa showing us the amount of work that’s being put in haute couture. thank u alexa and the dior team 🤍🤍🤍
Really makes you appreciate all the work that goes into a fashion show.
I've been sewing every minute I can in this Covid time and as I sit here 2 hours and have only made 4 flowers I got teary watching this fascinating Alexa interact with these amazing creators. I just don't have words.
Wonderful, and ain’t no fast fashion happening here, lovely that they made the time to allow viewers to enjoy their beautiful craftsmanship, thank you
8:45 I think you might have just discovered by “accident” a fashion star in the English presentation of the highest level and the most inner working aspect of French haute couture fashion and so on... PLEASE !!! We ALL can learn so much more interesting and fascinating stuff from him !!! Thank you.
Love how Alexa is so respectful with this artists, so humble, intelligent and funny, I love her ❤️
Alexa, only could have arranged to get such access. That was illuminating. The path to perfecting their craft is as long as it takes to be a medical specialist!! They are true artisans. So lovely to hear the same sentiment being expressed - we love it, it's our life and we've been here for ages!! The more experienced ones mentoring those up and coming. All the hand sewing, dedication and pride in their work. Such an inspiring video. You are the best.
“It’s better, it’s more beautiful” literally what I live by and I can’t seem to change.
“Misty Pistachio, my stripper name”
LOL
This bit made me giggle a lot!
At 1:48 when she says, “I don’t think I can touch it”, and that dude looks back at her to make SURE she isn’t 🤣😂
The whole color names situations had me dying lol.
What a nice bunch of people
Will’s MM2 UNWILD Vlogs Minecraft Channel they seemed quite stand-offish like she was bothering them in my opinion
Kirch, they’re all nice people but you could imagine how one mistake and also deadlines would make people come across stressed.
I love Alexa’s videos because she’s always going into the details and focusing on the people 👏
i'd give anything to have an internship in that atelier. literally anything! i never had a chance to go to a prestigious fashion school but my work is really great, and i feel like working in an environnement with such high standarts when it comes to perfection is the push i need to start a real carrer in fashion , i even learned to speack perfect french just for the day my opportunity comes, i applied online on numerous occasions, but i guess it wasn't meant to be.yet.
Cranberrylips Don’t give up ! Your chance will come.
TheFashionRealm I hope so ! Thank you for your kind words 😊

I love haute couture
Honestly, this is just amazing......I could watch them make works of art all day!
This AND Doutzen's behind-the-scenes? Today's been amazing.
Stepping out of the Atelier onto the streets, where the common folk live, must be jarring. It’s such a refined, beautiful, luxurious, clean, serene space. No gadgets, no loud noises, no sudden movements. Perfection. Thanks for the peek. 😊
I felt like I was watching Santa’s meticulous, stylish elves in a toy workshop
Uploaded 8 mins ago and already liked the video cause Alexa 🙃
But also, it’s so cool that Alexa always shows us what’s behind the scenes - whether it’s with her own office or at a couture atelier. So often we overlook those who put in the most labor into making the magic happen. Shout out to your video editing team as well - know we all appreciate you for bringing us these videos 💕
I love this! Seeing all the details and all the work these people put on each piece is amazing. We can learn so much through Alexa's channel. All these dresses and pieces are art, beautiful.
Alexa! You are incredible charming and airy person
I'm glad you're solidifying your position as fashion's purest voice on this platform.
This was amazing to watch the bts loved it from beginning to end. Everyone seems really friendly and I love how passionate they all are about their individual roles
I've been watching your videos for a while, and I have developed such appreciation for fashion as art. These people are so incredibly skilled, and no other word can be used but "artist".
This is pure bliss! Thank you for sharing this with us :)

So entertaining how Alexa shows things, she makes everything cool and effortless, great choice Dior!
This is so lovely to see so many people so passionate and open to talk about their work in what can come across as quite a cut throat and brutal business.
Just wonderful what these people are doing. Great content, Alexa. I truly enjoyed it.

One of the most interesting video in your channel! I love it 😍🙏🏻
what an exquisite behind the scenes look at everything! I appreciate Alexa's natural approach even with the awkwardness- it goes to show even though we aren't speaking the same language in full, there is kindness and curiosity in humanity
This is such a really cool and insightful video. Amazing talent behind the scenes, years of dedication and you can tell they love what they do. Really enjoyed watching it. Thank you! ❤️
This was incredible. Thank you for this Alexis.
Love the labor and effort! Passion. I almost cried
Oh my goodness what a wonderful video! Thank you so much for sharing the stories and talents of these remarkable artisans, and also for sharing your beautiful and hilarious personality. You are a treasure xxx
wow this is one of my favorite video so far, it's a pleasure see so many talented people 😍
I so admire these very skilled people. I wish we regular people could have a go at wearing these beautiful pieces.
Thank you, Alexa, for sharing this with us! One of my favorite things in this video was learning a bit of, what would you call it, wonderful sewing folklore or superstition (ie discretely leaving behind your blood or hair on the garment). I’ve been sewing almost my whole life-professionally as well-and I’ve never heard of these beliefs (maybe they’re specifically French?). And no company in the US would name a color ‘Parma’ (violet); love it.
if you would like to know a little bit more about this superstitions you should search "Signé Chanel" also from M. Prigent, a five part documentary about the creation of the 2005 fall winter HC show with part 3 talking about rituals dans les ateliers de la haute couture Chanel. For example if a piece falls to the floor it will be liked or before delivering an order you spit on it so it won't return
Both parts of this are fascinating! Love your channel so much. I hope you can do this with other designers and shows too! Thank you for making this! x
This is INCREDIBLE, thank you Alexa
This was simply amazing. Thank you.
