And to think that it all began with a late bloomer who once wanted to become a diplomat just to please his parents! #ChristianDior lived a life full of unexpected changes. From extreme wealth and abundance, to dire poverty and homelesness,... and back again!
Curious to find out how this unusual visionary managed to establish one of the most powerful brands on the planet? Then don’t miss this video!

I can’t afford much of the Dior brand but getting my Dior perfume is my one luxury ❤️
Personally I think it’s overpriced, your only paying for the name😒 you can get just as nice of purses and such at a more reasonable price.

Why was John Galliano exempted from this documentary? John Galliano was also an important and key person that kept Dior alive from the 90s to the 2000s. John Galliano also contibruted highly in creating some if not the most iconic pieces in modern times for the house of Dior
Agreed but once he went on that anti-Semitic rant on a bar it was kinda over for him. Love his designs
He dared criticize the elite
True to that.
I agree!!! Galliano designs are my favorite

This story is so encouraging, it has taught me to always follow my dream and not what others say and to never give up and work hard
To me, it’s hard to tell the story of Christian without telling the story of Catherine. She was more than just Christians brother. Catherine Dior was Christians best friend and one of his greatest inspirations. She fought in the French resistance in WWII, was CAPTURED AND TORTURED, sent to ravensbrück, an all women concentration camp, ESCAPED during a death march and returned to Christian, working to keep his legacy. When he died, she inherited half of his things, and had to sell her house so she could turn their old house into a museum. Catherine was also a lover of flowers, she worker on a farm to grow the beautiful flowers that inspired Christians fragrances.
Catherine and Christan Dior were very close growing up, and they even ended up moving to Paris together. When WWII started in the 1940’s and the Germans started to invade, the pair had to move back in with their father. The two had moved often, as war had taken control of nearly everyone's life. “In 1936, Catherine and her brother Christian rejoined Paris together,” Clémence Michallon tells us in an “Independent” article, “Christian found work as a fashion designer, while Catherine sold hats and gloves at a boutique. Separated by 12 years in age, they remained ‘the closest of the Dior siblings.’” Near the end of 1941, Christian had moved back to Paris, leaving Catherine with the rest of the family. While shopping for a radio, an object most important in the midst of war, Catherine Dior met Hervé des Charbonneries, the love of her life. Although he had been married at the time, Catherine had stayed with him after the war, until the end of his life. Hervé and his wife Lucie had an “open marriage,” but still ended up divorcing later on. Madison San Miguel writes about Catherine's love and loyalty in a November 2021 Vogue Magazine. San Miguel interviews an important author in Catherine's story, who will be discussed shortly. “The book first discusses Catherine’s commitment to love, especially to Hervé des Charbonnieres, whom she later joined the French Resistance with,” San Miguel notes. “During the resistance was when she discovered her love for flowers, which she saw as a comfort and meaning for resilience, and became a voice for women. Because of this deep love, the couple became suppliers of fresh cut flowers at Les Halles de Paris Market, and eventually grew roses and jasmine at their Provence home.” Charbonneries had been an early member of the French Resistance, a group in which he fought against Nazi power in france, and helped allies by getting inside information. Under the code name “Caro,” Catherine joined the French Resistance and helped save many lives.
English writer, Justine Picardie, found an interest in Catherine's life. The “Miss Dior” writer did not intend to write about Catherine. “After my Chanel biography came out,” Picardie tells “Fashion Network’s” Godfrey Deeny, “I received an invitation to look at the Dior archives with a view to doing a biography of Christian Dior.” Picardie started reading, and she had a connection with Catherine through the little information she knew. “Suddenly I knew a little bit about Catherine,” Picardie says to Deeny, “I know it sounds crazy, but it was as if suddenly she was sort of there as a character and I just knew in order to write about Christian I also had to write about Catherine.”

Did the narrator really pronounce epitome that way? Lol
Fun fact I was born on the same day as Dior exactly 100 years later
excellent video my friend, thanks for sharing all this information as usual, I have been very helpful .. I love your channel
Very educational and wonderful
(IMO) you did a fantastic job of narrating this Documentary,
"I personally liked how you did Sections" I like It.
I think of my work as ephemeral architecture, dedicated to the beauty of the female body.
Christian Dior
Brilliant to Hear what you Said, But I need to Discuss something to you.
Did you say that he "contacted" tuberculosis? You should have said that he "contracted" it. Did you say that he had financial "banking"? You should have said he had financial "backing".
Just a quick correction; Monsieur Dior launched his eponymous brand in 1947, and in the Corolla collection, the stand out piece was ‘The Bar Suit’.
This was later coined by Carmel Snow, then editor in chief of Harpers Bazaar ‘The New Look’. Not ‘The New Yorker’ as you mentioned in this video. 😊
Christian Dior Dolce Vita is my all time favorite perfume!!
What an example of life!

I loved the story very much
OK, I have to comment on the narrator's pronunciation of French is way off. Also, I'm nearly positive that there's not, nor ever was a Christian Dior shop in Nuuk Greenland!
English is a challenge too. Mispronounced "epitome".
perseverence of achieving a dream
You should do one on Yves next
I enjoyed a lot your video. Thank you so much . well done
Great video
Beautiful storytelling on CD's tenacious surviving skill from his ups and downs in life.
I was thinking if old French Francs could be used instead of Dollar bills for this narrative film. 👵🤔 🕊️
Actually I want to Chat to you about something in the Video.

Thé Vision of Mr Dior and Artist Galliano IS DIOR👍
You forgot to mention the close ties Dior had with Nazi Germany in WW2.
What's wrong with that ??
He's wright with his decisions and still should be
Dressing wags to survive and finance your Resistant sister is not really "close ties".

We drove past (by accident) Dior's mansion in Granville on way to Mt St Michel. It's a lovely museum. What that sea side mansion where he grew up...... poverty does NOT inspire high fashion

Christian Dior I love his clothing perfume handbags shoes extraordinary designer
Despite never being the kind of woman Dior designed for, I relate through his love of plants, flowers, art and architecture. Since Dior has stuck with Johnny Depp, I have been encouraging them to remove the amber notes in Sauvage, because who doesn't want Amber gone? A 2022 Sauvage JD, a unisex fragrance dedicated to all DV survivors, would sell by the mega pint.
I do not want the amber note gone.

Would love to you do one on Jean Patou.. My favorite designer
"Christian contacted tuberculosis."
"Hello? Tuberculosis? This is Christian speaking."
"I think of of my work as ephemeral architecture dedicated to the beauty of the female body" totally agree well it might be too stiff to wear but i think there are lots of more than stiff and uncomfortable dress that women would wear to look beautiful, and i think his vision is very advanced feels like he already knew today fashion world👍
Next time you deal with someone french please make sure the narrator knows the language! This one is appalling!
He needed some common sense only, I don’t speak German and I still don’t massacre German name.
Sadly, the numerous mispronunciations became major distractions from the content.
To make money : comme c bien dit!!:une nouvelle façon de considérer les choses par cette expression

Why be so limited and not actually look for the spelling if you're going to do a so called "documentary'? Spelling in french is different than english.
How sad that Dior died so young at 52😔😢
Dior maravilhosa
I think he got a speeding ticket😊
Is christian dior into any occult??
All those eerie looking designs and patterns
Next time get a narrator who doesn't mistake The New Look with The New York and knows how to pronounce 'epitome'.
DIOR was not survivor he was Warrior he thrived
Warrior he would get smoked one punch KO
The "New York"? Or do you mean the "New Look"?
nice video... but the voice here is sooooo irritating
You forgot Diorella and Diorissimo.
Follow your dream
U just love dior
Louis Vutton owns YSL and Dior don’t be fooled people you are just paying for the look it’s all the same shit I have 6 designer slides from different brands all the same exact material and feel along with some designer clothes as well
Warning: The visuals are hilarious
Dior went downhill after John Galliano left tbh
I respect Christian Dior's worldview, but women couldn't move comfortably in workplaces with those clothes, so they needed more masculine designs. Gabrielle Chanel was also looking at it from this perspective and she was right. After all, women were not supposed to be confined to the home, they had to go into business for economic freedom
UN genie...
Did Dior's son die while in the military? Heading elsewhere to find out.
hi. I felt strange to see your number of subscribers since you provide high quality videos but with very few views. it seems there is something wrong since it's clear you put much effort in each video. the solution for more views is marketing your videos, maybe you should pay some for advertisement for one video to see the difference between marketing videos and not. don't put much effort in quality and put more time in the number of videos. try to find the trends and understand what people are looking for. I don't want to see someone wasting his time with no gain as I did.
Wow, thank you! To be honest, I continue because of comments like this. It feels amazing that they are appreciated. I will try to put out more numbers of videos and look for good trends as well. ❤🙌
@@BusinessStoriesOfficial Relevant hashtags perhaps? I search for a lot of prestige content, as I either am doing research for something I want to buy or something I want to just “e-window shop”, and your videos have never turned up in those searches.
Personally, I like more videos when I sub to a beauty or fashion influencer, because I am getting direct advice, unboxings, reviews, swatches, try ons, etc. But I don’t see your channel as that. Yours to me is a documentary type of channel, therefore, I don’t need 3-5 videos a week of this (this is how often a lot of influencers publish).
However, I don’t know your publishing schedule at the time, but there is a sweet median in which there’s enough for people to feed their content hunger, and not be overworked and decline in quality. Because I don’t think numbers over quality is the answer either. Perhaps 1 video a week (ideally) or 2 a month? I know that videos such as these take time and a lot of work, and I don’t know your life to know if you have that kind of time. But since the topic was brought up, I thought I’d chime in. Either way, you got great content and there’s other ways to expand and contribute to growing the channel faster 😉 Good work!
P.S. Yves Saint Laurent is pronounced “Yve San Loron”, it’s not Laurent. The T is silent, and the “en” sounds more like an O + a very nasal N in French ;)
