- “I was really interested in clothes when I was very young - I think probably because I lived in the countryside and mainly I wore my brothers’ jumpers and jodhpurs and stuff,” Alexa Chung muses as she flips through photos of her best (and most questionable) outfits through the years for British Vogue’s Life in Looks series.
It’s a passion that’s stayed with her, whether she’s attending Glastonbury in Hunter wellies or shooting a Vogue cover, interviewing Karl Lagerfeld at one of his historic Chanel presentations or filming the Absolutely Fabulous movie. Most of us who come to Vogue for the fashion don't really care about TikTokers or oftentimes bland celebrity outfits that were likely put together by a stylist.
@@ropasidi5154 alexa was the last true it girl. she didn’t start out in social media, she was more of a host and model before Instagram was even a thing. She’s technically a celebrity because people started to notice her style and effortless charm. That is what a true it girl is.
Mulberry named a bag after her. Gossip Girl wanted her to make a cameo. For a time, she was one of Karl Lagerfeld’s muses. Vogue kept asking her to do covers. If that’s not what a celebrity is, then I don’t know what is.
Being a celebrity is more than being an actor or singer. And Vogue has always featured models and it-girls.
It girls nowadays are such losers and people claim EVERY girl to be one lol the only it girls that have earned it rn are zendaya and Bella hadid

read my mind! her street style has influenced so many (including myself duh lol) and while she is stunning in these more formal looks, i feel like she really came alive with her street style if that makes sense. like particularly, everything she wore on her mtv show was iconic and super formative to me in how i conceptualized my own style.

i absolutely love the idea behind her 2022 met gala look. Being a palette cleanser, not having to be the loudest in the room, feeling it represented her future and whipping it up in a few hours. very alexa, very charming. well done vogue! we love alexa then and always
Back in 2013 when i was a teenager on tumbler I used to be obsessed with Alexa Chung.. and i still lover her, she is the ultimate It girl.
Alexa Chung had an impact on a whole generation’s fashion. Everything that was a trend she would wear it 2 years before. I remember trying to copy her style and look for straight jeans everywhere and for years it was so hard to find it, we only had jeggins and mom jeans at most of the stores where I lived. Also, if socks and loafers are still a statement these days, Alexa had a huge role on it.
I missed the mini skirts and denim dungarees (pants and skirts) in the outfit selection but still… she’s so iconic. Bring her over more often, Vogue!

I'd happily watch Alexa go over another 20 looks tbh, her style has always been great! She seems to always have fun with fashion, which I appreciate. One of my favourite looks of hers was that stunning pale pink velvet Luella dress she wore to the Elle style awards - a great example of the sugary sweet style she mentioned ironically wearing in the video.

The it girl it girl herself 💖 Alexa reminds me of an era of fun and entertaining in fashion and style that’s gone. She’s so cool chill but also rock&roll. Very witty knowledgeable fun beautiful and of course very fashionable. People wrote songs about her. She will always be one of my favorites since my teens to now. 💘
She just seems so comfortable with herself without taking herself too seriously- I think that might be the most magnetic thing about her
I would say she just got lucky. I don't particularly like anything she wore. And I am put off by her fake posh accent, that is not her original accent. And the 'hahaha, aren't I so funny cracking jokes about myself, but actually I am in love with myself' is so boring.
Not only is she wonderfully esoteric with some of her fashion choices but I love what a wordsmith she is. Words are cool! I would watch her any day.

Ironically one of the most underrated It Girls of the 2000s, and yet she was the blueprint for so many of those famous looks, tumblr aesthetic brit-rock girl trends and then the classic french girl that we see now in some fashion scenarios.
All those influencer successful model girls you see nowadays who have become youtubers, started alongside Alexa's fashion protégé moment, heavily influenced by her style.
She IS the it girl of 2000s fashion, but she never boasted about it, or promoted herself, she just did her own thing and paved her own way elegantly.
It's about time this queen did one of these. Fashion was the way it was in the 2010s because of her.

To be perfectly honest, at this Met Gala it really felt like Alexa was slightly embarrassed to be seen with the youtube crowd that were with Derek too. The insta stories looked awkward. And now this. She’s seems slightly sad that she wasn’t invited.
I don’t think she should be…the Met Gala guest list has evolved over the years to include more personalities rather than fashion icons, and she belongs to the latter. I thought her dress looked fabulous on her, and I had no idea that she only had a few hours to choose it.
