Farouk was listening to you, and seemed more calm in his second year of his career in endurance. He knows good times are had with his folks on these rides. Farouk has a good start, and is sure to do well. Only question is, where are you going to place all the ribbons that are to come! Thank you Tara and Ren, for sharing these rides, and for all the hard work you have done to proceed to this point.

You must be so proud of Farouk & how well he he does at these events! You've worked so hard with him, (also Apollo & Bella) & Farouk is such a delight to watch with you on his back! He was on his best today & he's simply gorgeous & well-behaved. My only irritation is with a couple of those people in their cars! No consideration. We have those kind too, here in the USA! I loved my ride with you, as usual, Tara. Blessings always! ♥

Great start to the ride. Find it hard to believe how inconsiderate all these road travellers are being passing horses when they know they should be slowing down to pass horses and riders. Cars bikes motor cyclists and vans maybe more route Marshall’s needed to be out on the route at certain sections. Fingers crossed for all the riders and horses that everyone gets round their course safely 🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎

Here in the States drivers are so rude and unaware of how to drive around horses; it is downright frightening to ride on the roads, not to mention dangerous. I would have thought that people in the UK were more understanding with equines and riders, but now it seems less so than before. Sad.

I cycle all over my local area and like you now use the middle of my lane of the carriageway. I've had too many cars coming too close or cutting between me and on coming cars!!! I've even had cars overtaking cars that are over taking me! They seem obvious to my life being in danger. I drive carefully around cyclists and those riding horses because I know what it is like. Farouk seems so light on his feet. His ears forward flying through the air. Special horse indeed. Does it feel different riding him too? So lovely to have all those lovely bridle ways in the countryside! As a student in junior high we had equine science class that included health care tack, riding and had our own riding ring. Cucamonga California has its own ring too and riding rings, barrel racing, mostly western style. The teacher let me be her TA my second year there. I had a friend who went on to riding as exercise jockey for Thoroughbred racers. Many of my friends there were of Hispanic decent and rode horses by necessity. It came naturally to 2 of my horse buddies Karen and Maria riding bare back at a full run with nothing but the horse and mane 🤷🏼‍♀️

I totally agree where your coming from. I have had to tell cyclists not to use their bells to inform me they are there. Cyclists if your reading this use your voice to let us know your there by saying 'cyclist to your left/right' horses are used to voices not so much with annoying bells. And one of those motor cyclists was pretty close. Like you I always try and do whats safest for everybody unfortunately not everyone has that ethos. But nice to see hubby assisting, team work makes the dream work! X

Great start. Traffic! The bane of horse riders lives! I used to ride midlane and make myself as big as possible and was not averse to having a longish stick I would stick out to the side. Our 16.3 had failed to become a police horse but in traffic he was a rock. When cars pull along side and your foot is next to the drivers ears they soon move over....😅

Interesting to see motorists around horses in other countries. I live in the northeastern USA, surrounded by Amish communities, and as locals, we were brought up to have a healthy respect and protectiveness over these fine people, especially when they’re out on the road with their horses and buggies… always passing slowly, often with a friendly wave. Their horses are bomb-proof, but nobody wants to take even the slightest chance. The tourists are absolutely clueless, though, zinging past with zero care. I fear for the Amish on our roads, because I feel inattentive driving is getting worse.

Those drivers need some educating in how to pass a horse . I live on The Wirral ,we have more horses per head than most places with lots of lanes etc ,the standard protocol is to slow down on approach from either direction ,and wait until called on by the rider, allowing them to get control and prepare , they can also see oncoming traffic more easily as well . Cannot believe the speed that those cars passed , the side swipe of the air could have unsettled Farouk , and cars can fair much worse from a horses hoof and it is their own fault if it happens ..

Go Farouk I find your endurance rides very different to those here Downunder that distance comes under a training ride here my husband used to do them on an Arabian stallion named Sunburst a big chestnut he competed in the heavyweight division and he would dismount and run with the horse a lot just had to be in the saddle when approaching a checkpoint the rides are usually held in national parks and forests and the ground is quite rugged at times with hill climbs and descents competitive rides are usually 50 to 60 klm me big one the Tom Quilty is 120klm starts in the dark I usually just strapped yes agree some motorists are just plain ignorant at times

The dapple doesn't canter? Is it broken? 😂 I wouldn't personally want that to be my endurance horse, although it is a nice sturdy little horse.
Have you heard about this fellow, he bought a Tennessee Walker for like $3500, and planned to ride it from Texas to Washington state - in 100 days 😮 He spent a month "conditioning" the horse, and had a SIXTY POUND (27.2 kilo) saddle with all his gear. He would buy a bit of grain when he could, and accepted charity wherever, or camped out. Instead of legally crossing state lines, he trailered the horse, along with a 2nd "pack horse" that is over 20 years old to avoid inspections and required Coggins testing. He took side trails to avoid the law enforcement searching for him. The horses have lost a LOT of weight, are very sore, and the older horse has colicked twice from dehydration. The guy is wanting to sell these horses for $10k or more 😮, while begging for a cheap replacement horse to continue riding from Yellowstone to Washington. He doesn't think he is doing anything wrong. Long riders and endurance riders have offered to help him prepare, but he ignored them and anyone else who are VERY concerned for the horses. It's pretty crazy.
