    When cars used to have fuel tanks, the German road assistance company ADAC tested them and complained when the fuel flap was on the driver side. If you get stranded due to not enough fuel (esp unrestricted Autobahn) you do not want to refuel on the driver side and get hit by a passing vehicle. Hence, all German brands put the flap on the passenger side.

  • @klisurski
    @klisurski Год назад +5

    Have you actually considered that when you parallel-park next to a sidewalk on a two-way street the charger would always be on your right-hand side, so this is actually the better side for the port, otherwise you might need to park opposite to the traffic for the cable to reach the port? According to me the best place for it is in the front middle, as it gives you the best accessibility.

    Really looking forward to the video about these charger containers 🙂
    About the EV spotting. I've noticed there's „a lot“ of EVs on the roads ‒ I mean, the percentage of registered EVs is pretty low. But I notice them on the road quite often, definitely more often than would be the fair share comparing with the registered cars. My theory is, if someone drives a lot, they are more likely to buy an EV. If someone mostly doesn't drive but keeps a 20 year old car in the barn, they still count in the registered cars, but they are not likely to be seen on the road. So maybe if we get to a point of 20% registered cars being EVs, it might as well be something like 50% of the traffic. Or maybe I'm just overly optimistic.

  • @MichelGroenbos-cj6ti
    @MichelGroenbos-cj6ti Год назад +1

    You are complaining about the charger connection on the right side of the car, but that is the best position, because if you park along a street side, with a left handed vehicle, you always park with the right side to the sidewalk, where the charger is positioned. Well, strictly speaking about efficiency, I’m not that impressed. Either the Kia Niro or the Hyundai Kauai can do much better with a battery with similar size.

      I drove a Kia e Niro for a year, now I have had an iX1 for 4 months. You tell fairy tales, BMW is more economical on the highway, in the city I have exactly the same consumption. I drive a lot in the mountains because I live in the Alps and where there is a lot of recuperation BMW crushes Kia e Niro. In addition, the BMW has 4-wheel drive and over 300 hp, what are you comparing.

      @@pietruszka2194 What I can say is that I drove, both the Niro and the Hyundai for long time and I could do, on the motorway at 125 km/h, 330 to 340 kms. I don’t see the bmw doing that distance…

      Those cars are significantly lighter than the iX1. And the Kona/Kauai is like 30-35cm shorter as well. That plays a big role.

    Lol Bjorn, stop it please. Right rear is the perfect placement for the charger.
    All the people that live in a shit house but drive a nice car should just get an ICE then?

      You should stop. Did it even occur to you that you can plug in perfectly fine even if the charge port is on the left side?

    • @pietruszka2194
      @pietruszka2194 Год назад

      Maybe in England, but in Europe traffic is on the right, in countries like Germany you can't stand in the opposite direction. Sometimes having the charging port on the left side of the cable is too short.

      Let's not forget that as long as the driver's door is on the left side then the charge port should also be on the left.

    300km real world range is adequate. Anything less is compromise, especially in this price range.
    As far as ix1 - solid car, nice features, but practically same price as model Y Long Range!!! That's just ridiculous... At least a class under car...

      natural leather, hud, adaptive headlights, seats with massages, iso fix in front seat, better suspension, probably more silent, parking sensors, 360 degrees camera, possibility to open trunk with the kick, electric towbar, ambient light, lighted exterior around doors area. tesla is a much poorer far cousin compared to BMW.

    • @roffaleft499
      @roffaleft499 Год назад

      Why should an EV from BMW be priced the same or lower as a Tesla? Would you also say that a gas powered X1 should be priced the same as an ICE Kona..? There's a thing called brand equity which is simply higher at BMW compared to Tesla. Pricing is not the only part of the equation.
