    If we consider pure comparison with rivals, the charging speed and battery size looks a bit downside. Of course Bjorn does a benchmark and his data is very valuable, but it really depends on the personal use, which means how many times one travel 1000+ km to translate this benchmark in your real-world usage. I normally travel long distances like 800 or 900 km once a year. So it is not a big deal for me to lose half an hour more on the road because of the charge. I drove 820 km 10 days ago with ix1 in about 10 hours, Started from 57% and ended with 36% and it was almost winter drive with 6 C average temp along the road and I think about 50+km of the road was limited to 80 km/h limit. Maybe with a Model Y or EV6, I could save half an hour, but in general it is not a big change compared to ICE cars, where you can only stop 1 time to tank for 5 mins on a 1000km and go if only want to finish the journey as fast as possible. EVs no matter how they are packed with large batteries and charge speed are a different story on long journeys than ICE cars and one needs to adapt to a different driving habit.
    What actually I like about ix1 is its efficiency that I value much more than long journey speed. In my day to day use, it just smells the electricity and not eat it, which is really nice. It keeps the charge cost down. It is a really nice looking car inside and outside IMO.
    I had a small camera fix the other day that the workshop gave me an iX while my iX1 under the repair. I had iX for a day and despite its advantages to iX1, I liked iX1 better because it is overal compact package and look. Even interior design was much appealing for me on iX1.
    I like when Bjorn says it's poor man's BMW :), but I am looking at 76k Euros that I paid and it does not sounds poor to me. Come on, X5 start price in germany is 85k.

    In fact the pack voltage is even lower than what the charger or calculation shows. It is at least some 5-10V higher when charging (depending on speed) as it needs to match the pack + add extra to pump through the pack internal resistance.
    I love that my e-208 charges full 50kW from about 20-25% up despite the 125A limit. The pack voltage is really high :)

    I have a new IX3 and drove it over the Xmas hols from Paris to Nice and then back again and then Paris to London return. I have previously done all of this in a petrol Volvo XC60 so had a comparison of sorts. The Paris to Nice leg was ok at 12 hours compared to 10.5 in the Volvo. On both trips I had a full load and a large dog. But I also had a roof box this time which I did not on the Volvo. The return leg however was 14 hours. None of the Ionity charging units were close to their advertised maximum. Often they charged at 75 and even lower. Overall the range was really not great, it was also windy and cold, and I had to recharge every 2 hours for 30-40 mins on the return leg. Just not good enough. I have done the Paris to London with just 1 recharge at the Eurotunnel terminal (I was on my own), but this time the range was a lot less. Overall not a winning experience on these long trips when fully loaded.

  • @SteveLoughran
    @SteveLoughran Год назад +1

    so i am getting one of these next month, and while i'm going to be happy with it everyday use (home charging with only a few hundred miles/month) and OK with charging rates at ionity, that charging rate at 50 kW chagers is really going to hurt until the UK upgrades it's charger network in the quieter bits of the country, like Wales and most of Scotland -because 50 kW is the charger you aspire to. But if you are in the charger business-would you spend money installing 200+ kW chargers in places where demand is so low today that even a 50 kW charger is viewed as a luxury (look for the A470 fork cardiff to llandudno and see what i mean). Well, i will have to travel to france instead

      This is what happens when cost is main focus. Mercedes does the same with EQS and EQE. You use the same modules and build a smaller pack. For example if you use 12 modules in the big pack and then 10 modules in the small pack will drop pack voltage by about 70V. It will also make the pack physically shorter making it fit to a shorter vehicle.

But if we consider the AWD and the better performance of the iX1 I think they are on a similar level. Of course the iX1 could do much better if the front would look like the MY, but I am happy with the big grill 😂 and I take the extra consumption for that with pleasure.

MEB platform: last year they weren't taking orders with foundational driver assist because of the global chip shortage.
      Range? I normally drive 300 miles/month; the range at 80 mph is enough to suit me on longer journeys.
      Now, if VW or Volvo had station wagon models rather than SUVs, different story...

      Absolutely not, quality, equipment, suspension, systems are on another level. Before I bought a BMW, I also tested the Model Y, one of the worse cars. Auto pilot is practically useless, other things like lights, rain sensors, lights, parking sensors, etc. are even a shame to talk about. I do long routes and autopilot in BMW is pure pleasure. On the highway, all you have to do is keep your finger on the steering wheel. The car does the rest.

      You cannot really compare the two. The ix1 is a luxury vehicle, Tesla a car built to a budget. The drivetrain and battery is quite efficient, but quality and refinement wise, it is on another level. The BMW app though is garbage.
