    Hey Bjorn! Love your videos, as always. My wife and I are waiting for modern second-hand family EVs under $30k to be prevalent in the US. In the meantime, we just got a 2021 BMW X1. It can fit both kids side by side in the back seat, and my wife (tiny Asian) to boot. Same feat was impossible in an X3, and difficult/impossible in X5. Plus, X1 is about the same size as the Prius it replaces. This is handy for our two-car garage, since my wife isn’t laser accurate in parking our other family SUV. In my opinion, a lot of car in a small package. Hopefully the iX1 will be available here soon (what the heck?)!

    The iDrive controller is brilliant. I have had my current BMW 545e for two years and I have never once touched the touchscreen. I wouldn't have bought the car if it didn't have the iDrive controller.

    • @TheVorst
      @TheVorst Год назад

      @@pariandangel That is incorrect. I saw that Bjorn did 230 km on the iX1 on his first stop (with only a few percentages battery left.). I have an M3 for almost 4 years now. If I only get 230 to 300 km out of my car I sell it immediately. If I drive at an average car speed of 100 to 110 km, I get for sure safely 400km. Also the Tesla M3 now has a 82 KW vs my M3 has 75 Kw 4 years ago. Also with help of M3 aerodynamics (not a SUV), you get easily 400 to 450 km (if not more) range today.

    think the "wave your foot to open the door" is part of the "comfort package" on the base ix1 shadow line, this is the premium M sport model being reviewed. which has more features including a reduced rang due to the low profile/extra inertia wheels . electric seat adjustment is also extra on the shadowline model

    Thanks for this Bjorn, a great video as always! I've had a good look around the new X1/iX1 and it's definitely a lower quality product, where cost-cutting is all too visible. IMO, it's now of a similar interior quality to a current model Peugeot 3008 - which I have & the X1 is (was?) a potential replacement. We've had BMWs non-stop for 30 years & our current model is a X5. Here are some examples: the cardboard parcel shelf on the X1 is the same as you'll find on the 3008. Where's the retractable cover with the (optional) retractable baggage net found on other BMW SUVs? The rear seat fold mechanism - pulling some oh-so cheap straps at the base of each backrest - is even worse than the Peugeot which has proper press-in catches at the seat tops. Where's the key or coin holder underneath the steering wheel column that's in every other BMW? The door pockets are made of low-grade hard scratchy plastic & are also unlined. When closing the doors the sound is cheap & tinny. For a car that costs north of €50k and for a brand that likes to think of itself as being in the premium bracket, the drop off in the quality is both marked and shocking.

    • @sunseeker-yb5qt
      @sunseeker-yb5qt 9 месяцев назад

      BMW needs to cut costs at some points where nobody appreciates it anyway to offer competitive prices especially in this entry level BEV (hard plastic at lower door pockets). BMW separates from the rest (Tesla etc) with top notch driver assist systems, Head Up Display, Matrix lights, refined ride, capacitive steering wheel etc). Price wise they actually sell the ix1 at least in Germany at very competitive prices which are almost fully speced below 50k (incl environmental bonus). These are the real prices and with that it gives a buy signal for many people as this is only very shy above a fully spec MY RWD which has about the same km range. But then there are people who probably do not appreciate the advantages the BMW offers, then they should stick to Peugeot or similar as they will not miss anything.

      Do they have the better docking port design common in the US? As in the EU that swan neck design is compulsory-even though it sucks for mounting bike carriers. While I don't leaving the EU was a good idea for us in Britain -maybe the government will let us fit the better tow fixture and I'll be able to get a Yakima bike carrier to replace the Thule one

      BMW OS is apparently going to be based on android automotive next year, with then head units of iX1s and X1s being built apparently ready for this. suspect that generic android automotive apps just won't work with the controller, so they've just given up it. They can argue speech obsoletes it, but I'm yet to be convinced. maybe for heating-but not for navigation

      @@SteveLoughran they can probably make it work with the android stuff too. I think it works with android auto anyways, as for the voice comands i doubt anyone wants to lower the music to give a comand. I think a combination of Idrive knob,buttons and toich commands together is the safest bet. • @SteveLoughran
      @SteveLoughran Год назад +1

      IX3 isn't that much bigger in terms of luggage capacity , RWD only, heavier, a generation behind motor and infotainment wise. And it's pretty big for UK streets.
      What the iX3 does have is a better set of options as standard, with only the m-sport, m-sport pro, tow bar yes/no and colour being the main options. So BMW have gone away from the supply-chain-optimised "spec everything, pay us and wait" order-based manufacturing back to the classic "we will make X blue cars, Y white cars, each split 50/50 m sport cars m sport pro and put a tow bar on 1 in 30". Meant if we had ordered one last year we'd have had less wait. Still decided to go for the ix1 even though there's not that much in it one you add the options.
      Note the iX3 is made in partnership with another company in china: no idea whether that is good or bad
