    At 100tkm I still had 98% according to the aviloo test
    I would like to continue driving it until 200tkm and then drive another bev.

      According to the battery spec sheet the 94 Ah Samsung SDI cells are rated for 4600 cycles to 80% capacity, or roughly 920000km assuming 200km on a charge, so that definitely seems to line up with that.

    Samsung SDI prismatic batteries for the win.
    6000 cycles to 20% degradation, 30 year pack life. Samsung does not show a pack "degradation by age" chart.
    At 6000 cycles to 20% degradation the mileage would be:
    1st Gen 110km x 6000 = 660,000 km for the 21.40 kWh pack
    2nd Gen 166km x 6000 = 996,000 km for the 33.77 kWh pack

    That's pretty good for a small battery, the smaller the battery the more cycles or more deep cycles vs the same amount driven in a car with a larger battery. We have 53k miles (85,000 km) now on our Ioniq 5 and when I checked it at 50k it only has lost 0.9% capacity. BMS was still reporting 100% SOH but it's actually lost about 0.5kwh when charged to 100% then you read the remaining energy. The low loss is likely because we most always charge at home and only to 80%. We only need to charge to 100% or fast charge when going on trips.

    • @cristipaun4805
      @cristipaun4805 3 месяца назад +1

      From some lg document's i've read, the smaller the energy density in the cells, the better the cycle count they can achieve. Basically, even though a smaller battery has to do more cycles it degrades less. A bigger battery needs to do less cycles but it degrades more per cycle. They basically cancel eachother out.

    Out 2019 i3 120Ah is down to 96,6% @58.000 km. In theory it will reach 70% @ 500.000 km. It is rapid-charged quite often.

    • @swecreations
      @swecreations 3 месяца назад +1

      Batteries often lose a couple percent early on in their life before stablizing at a set rate of degradation. I'd say 500000 km is *very* conservative, especially considering the earlier 94 Ah Samsung SDI batteries were rated for 4600 cycles, or roughly 920000 km to 80% capacity assuming 200 km per cycle.
      It'll probably last even more than that.

    • @swecreations
      @swecreations 3 месяца назад +2

      It has 94Ah NMC111 (Also known as NMC333) battery modules rated for 4600 charge/discharge cycles to 80% capacity.
      Assuming that you go 200km on an average cycle, which you easily do if you don't do lots of highway driving, that would mean it is rated for 920 000 km until 80% capacity, and is likely why degradation is so low.
      I believe low degradation levels like these will be getting more and more common now as batteries advance over time, will be interesting to see how these hold up in 25 years time from now.

    Can degradation be tested by (almost) emptying the battery and then seeing how much energy it uses to fill up?
    If there's no log for the number of cycles, how can Bjorn know how many cycles this car has had? We can't use distance travelled because someone could be doing lots of small charges which degrades the battery less than someone going from 0-100%

    @frodonifinger2628 3 месяца назад +1

    TeslaBjørn! Be aware of when you charge to 100% on the i3 on the home charger and you let the car decide, when it is full, you get about 2-3% more juice on the battery, than if you stop, when it says 100 have been reached.

    • @pilotandthecity8527
      @pilotandthecity8527 3 месяца назад

      Can you explain this? 100% is 100%. What do you mean by 2-3% more?

    • @frodonifinger2628
      @frodonifinger2628 3 месяца назад

      @@pilotandthecity8527 I found out much to my surprise, that if I when using Monta’s Smartcharge system, did set the SoC of the car too low ( first time because I was too lazy to open the BMW app to check, then the charger would continue to charge until the car shut off charging. In the app it paused the charging session, and I would then go in the app, and manually stop the charging session.
      I better explain how the system works here in Denmark. Normally every kWh used is added a tax of 0,946 Dkr or 13,9 US cents. But with a home charger and a subscription plan with an electricity provider you get this tax refunded for electricity charged onto your EV. I use a company, NRGi for both my normal electricity usage and for charging my BMW i3S. And they use Monta’s system and app to run the charger. The App has Smart charge allowing you to charge within the cheapest period with in a time slot you define and to a SoC you define by setting current state of charge and the required SoC and the end and you define, the time the car has to be ready. This means I often is able to fully charge my car up to 100% for less than a dollar.
      What I experienced after having set the smart charging to a too low starting point and the car itself had to stop the charging, was that I drove much longer on the first 1% from 100 down to 99%.
      I asked people in a Danish BMW i3 forum on Facebook if they had noticed the same. One guy had sat in his car and watched the car continue charging from 95% to 100% and until it ended the charging. When reaching 100 the car had received 12,4 kWh, but the charger did not stop until 12 minutes later having delivered 13,3 KWh. So it actually charged another 0,9 kWh onto the battery, before the car turns off the charging session. So on the first 1% you get much farther, than normal!
      On the flip side I noticed, when I DC charge to 90% and then go, then the first 2 % has left the battery almost before I get out of the parking lot.

    • @frodonifinger2628
      @frodonifinger2628 3 месяца назад +1

      @@pilotandthecity8527If you let the car charge until it stops it will continue roughly 12 minutes after it reaches 100% on the meter. I have an example where the car (120 Ah battery pack) when the car reached 100.% having received 12,4 kWh continued to charge for 12 minutes charging to 13,3 kWh so you get an extra 0,9 kWh. At 155 w/km you get 5,8 km extra on the first 1% on the meter.

    • @tonrotterdam

    • @frodonifinger2628
      @frodonifinger2628 3 месяца назад

      @@tonrotterdamI will not claim you are wrong. But the charger continues to pump in juice after the 100% mark is reached on the cars battery indicator. 0,9 KWh to be exact is added.
      Regardless what we call it, it is my experience that I go much further on the first 1%, than I usually do.
      On the flip side of it, when I charge with DC to 90% then the first 2% bleeds of in a few hundred meters rather than kilometers. I think that is due to balancing the cells.
