After years of playing as a hobby i was blessed and formed a band 3 months ago, i have decided i have to step it up and finally dig into theory, i will start here, from the bottom of my heart thank you teacher!!
me too, been playing guitar and bass for abt two years now for fun and now i am trying to start a band and will be doing as much research as i possibly can
Thank you, Mr. Brown. I totally suck but because of you I’m actually beginning to sound like a bass player but don’t get me wrong. I still totally suck at it but I’m not gonna give up. I’ll never be Stanley Clarke.
Love your style of teaching. Am a keys player that loves the bass so much that I own more basses than keyboards. :) anyway I've played bass for years on occasion as needed and your videos have literally allowed me to obtain some rudimentary concepts that I had never picked up before. Amazing teacher!!!! keep up the great work.
This is genius! Amazing teaching. This is my favorite part of bass playing-- but feel like i have to relearn it over and over again, especially when my band takes a break!
You are a great teacher. I'm so glad I found you. I am looking forward to supporting you so that the whole world can benefit from your gift of teaching.
Appreciate your succinct take on this, and that you used a four-string to do so. You're one of the bass players whose use of chords always sounds the best to my ears.
AM FROM JAMAICA 🇯🇲. I DOWNLOADED THE CHORD SHAPES PDF AND THEN WATCHED YOUR VIDEO TO GET THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE CHORD CONSTRUCTION MORE CLEAR AND PRECISE. MAD RESPACT BIG MAN🎉🎉
Wheres this chord chart, if I may? I didn't notice one in the description. But I'm very interested in a bass chord chart. Or did you get it from elsewhere?
Hey Rich, I just subscribed. I have watched several bass players but I really connect with your style of teaching. I've played guitar for over 25 years and have played around with bass here and there and have always paid more attention to the bass in songs! I know your channel is going to help me play like a bass player and not play bass like it's a guitar! Please keep it up and thank you!
Wow! I've been playing for years. Have a pretty good grasp of the scales, but never learned chords! Your lesson was so clear! I used to play these muddy 1-3-5 triads. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, your videos are an absolute treasure trove. You are really good at explaining and making things easy by breaking them down.
Absolutely amazing exercises because you combine scales with chords!!! Wow!!! Congratulation because these things are what I really need to improve my technique.. thanks for your ideas and tips to better…. I started to follow you man!!!!
As practical as beautifully delivered. Thank you for gearing this toward the exact level that you have. I'm picking up bass after some other instruments (including guitar), which means I arrive with tons of baggage and assumptions. Your channel sets me right every time. Thank you SO MUCH!!
Great to see you back, just seen your vid now, reminds me i need to get jamin. cheers for your knowledge and inspiration.. Im a new be to your channel but can see myself as longs-bee..
Wow, thanks for this video Rich. I have played bass for decades and am not good at all, but this gives me something else to look at. LOL. I will dust off the bass and try this tonight.
The tenth (vs the third) was something taught to me when I was younger, but never well explained (tho it was obiously muddy). Learning felt a chore UNTIL I realized how much better it sounded at the 10th!!!
Hi, Rich. Thanks for providing these bass lessons online. I would really love for you to teach some techniques and tricks for getting more comfortable doing improvisation. If you have an ear training courses as well as improvisation tips, please upload. I would sincerely appreciate it. P.S. I have subscribed.
@@TheHouseJROD Thanks! But what about dropping the 5th and alternating between major and minor chords like he did on the E string? I'd like to see that on at A string if possible. I suppose we can invert the chord somewhere.
I think the chords from the A string actually sound great when played in their closed voicings. Playing a Cmaj7 chord as CEB on the A, D, and G strings works for me. It's the E and A strings that tend to sound muddled when played together.
@@richbrownbass Thanks Rich, keep up the good work! Looking forward to seeing more videos 😊 Also, the video and sound quality is great and much appreciated!
Grazie mille per le belle parole Cercherò di pubblicare presto ulteriori informazioni sulla creazione di linee di basso. Restate sintonizzati e grazie per la visione!
7/3/24. When I watch people playing bass, their hands move with fluency over the fret board. What can I practice to move about easier on the fret board. I'm beginning to think I should give up on playing bass guitar.

You're so very welcome. Thank you for watching.
God Bless everyone, I'm praying for you! Jesus loves you! He is with you! ❤
me too, been playing guitar and bass for abt two years now for fun and now i am trying to start a band and will be doing as much research as i possibly can
i hope your band is doing well :)
Dude! Now I am not afraid of chords. On a side note, you have such a soothing Morgan Freeman kind of voice.
Agreed!
Dude is smooth as can be!
Rich you are not only a great player and teacher, you are an angel
Awww...that's very sweet of you. Thanks so much. 😊
Thank you, Mr. Brown. I totally suck but because of you I’m actually beginning to sound like a bass player but don’t get me wrong. I still totally suck at it but I’m not gonna give up. I’ll never be Stanley Clarke.
One of the best lessons on bass guitar I've ever watched in my 30 years of playing. BRAVO!!!
So timely. The best lesson on chords I’ve ever seen. Thank you!
Oh wow! Thank you so much, Rodney. That means a lot.

first inversions are my fav.. root on top!
Mine too! The sound of the 3rd on the bottom is 💵!

Awesome lesson Rich. Three shapes to give all of those delicious chords. Thank you, peace and love.

Love your channel!
i just got a leak. Jeez? this is so cool. thank you so much sir
I play guitar but I’m ready to try bass guitar 🎸
Very good and useful lesson sir,,,,,,😊
Thanks!
Thank you so much. Your generosity means a lot.
You have a fantastic voice
Haha. Thank you very much. 😊
Brilliant! Could you break down if the root lives on the second string and how to construct shapes from there?
Triads; you wouldn't put 3rd up the octave.
You could also play R - 5 - 7.
