Great job you help my mind to understand things basic too many instruction vids skip this stuff because they know people want instant gratification without putting in the time and effort
As well excellent. Thanks! And if it comes to LEGO. My kids offered exactly this Fender Lego set as Christmas present to me. It was hell of a fun to build it.
Dude same. I've been playing since I'm like 12 I'm 28 now 😅 I'm one of the weird guys that has excellent technique and a good ear but absolutely no knowledge of the neck or why things work together. I just hard memorized everything but only know how it sounds, not what it is.
After two years playing without an idea of what I was doing I've been looking for theory starter videos for months, but i couldn't realize exactly how to do or It seen to be difficult, but this video has helped me to start knowing what I play! Thanks a lot dude I will remember you as the guy opened me the door of real music.
I've had over 20 Lessons with a teacher, watched a ton of videos, read stuff etc. Never have i understood the major scale this well! Thank you so much for giving me something i can work on. Probably also gonna start the Course in a while. Keep rocking dude, you are awesome!
Finally, finger presses can be discerned via that little graphic animation...and highleted finger on the fretboard....also you (finally) tie in the significance of scales, notes and shapes (patterns). Thank you Buzz.
I haven't made it all the way to the end yet... and I've been working on what I've watched so far. I just wanted to stop and say THANK YOU. I've been playing guitar and bass from close to 30 years (totally embarrassed to say that), and your teaching is the first time the 'theory' side of things has ever made any sense to me. I could cry, I'd give you a big hug if I could (You: "Please don't"). I think this is really going to lift my music up from the rut I'm in, and it'll be way more fun to 'play'. So Thanks, again, you're brilliant!
This is the best lesson on scales that I have ever seen. The copy and paste part blew my mind 🤯 thanks for explaining to us slow learner's, keep up the amazing work 🎉
Hey Josh, I just want to thank you for making the videos that you do. I’ve been playing bass for almost 5 months now. I take lessons but those are only once a week. But people like you and Scott Devine have helped me so much into speeding up my progress. Watching your videos like this has helped me move around the fretboard easier, better technique, and this video where you give good tips on scales. I love these videos man
Thank you!!! I went to my local music store and the bass method section was the puniest most pathetic little section I've ever seen. You've really given me the tools to improve with your channel that I didn't know how to properly source before! Your the best! Thank you for being a passionate bass head! It's contagious haha
Thanks for another great theory video. I just picked the bass back up after about 10 years away and your 10 minute everyday practice routine has been my go to for rebuilding dexterity and speed. Really appreciate the great tips and tricks!
Dude I just figured out how much material uploaded everywhere. Thank you very much for all the info you shared and the time and effort. Grtz from the Netherlands
Hi @BassBuzz , I got in an accident and broke my finger to a crumb, now I'm trying to learn the bass for rehab. You're an absolute godsent for me. Love your super intuitive teaching 💕
Thank you so much! I'm always impressed how you put so many precious tips into short and funny pieces of content. I've been playing bass for 15 years and always learn something new from you. I love what you do and just listening to you talking about your passion makes my day better and encourages me to practise more. Thank you ❤ and the "want a sip of wine!?" part cracked me the heck up lol
Just picked up learning the bass this week on a Yamaha trbx304 (per your video) and loving it so far. This video has come at the right time for me-thanks!
This is an excellent lesson for beginners. I think it is funny how the thumbnail says not to use the full fretboard visualization technique, but that is probably the best the next step after these beginner suggestions. The "copy paste" step is a good way to start to learn the full fretboard, but after that IMO it is best to learn the positions from the nut to the bridge. There is no need to jump directly to "The Beast" exercise, but it is very helpful to start working on position shifting and visualizing the full fretboard right after learning this "box" scale.
This video is exactly what I was looking and didn't even know it. I have been playing scales and really didn't understand how to form them into something that could be used to play musically. This video gave me that light bulb moment. Thank you so much I can't wait and try out what I have learned from you.
Played cello all through school (decades ago LOL), been playing bass for about a month. This is exactly what I was looking for to link my experience in orchestra with the few songs I've learned on bass. With this and your Beginner Bass Lesson #1, I feel like I've been given the fundamentals that I'll utilize and build on for the rest of my bass playing time, and in an entertaining and digestable format. Thank you so much!! Hope that Fender was a fun build, you deserve it!
I'm about halfway through the 1-month hardcore BassBuzz course and love it. Had just started playing Bass in October and couldn't have found a better way to really get going and learn a crap ton in a quick period of time. It's challenging, but easy to follow along with and gradually steps you up as you move along, so you never feel overwhelmed at all. HIGHLY recommend it. (No.. I was not paid for this!)
Dude thank you so much for these videos. The struggle is real for some of us. Self taught and still didn't know what I was doing. Was stuck in a rut for so long. Had friends over the years tell me "play this or that" but never really went deeper and they themselves couldn't explain why and what they were doing. Thank you.
I'm so glad that i found your channel, and buying your beginner yo badass was the best decision, i learned a lot in a really short span of time, i love playing bass, learning songs, improvising, I'm so glad and grateful, thanks, you're an awesome teacher, maybe I misspelled something, I never studied english sorry, but thanks and greetings from Argentina. ❤
I just wanted to say thank you for your amazing videos! I was really struggling and felt stuck with learning the bass, but your content has been a game-changer for me. Your lessons are not only super clear and easy to understand, but your humor makes them so enjoyable to watch. I’m seriously considering getting your online course! Keep up the great work, and thank you for all you do.
5 years learning bass self taught. Today brought a new perspective on something that i learned hard way. This video is life for me. Bass playing speaking...obviously.!
Been using your videos for the past few years and I’m always looking forward to learning more from you !! You make this so fun and understandable and actually make me look forward to practicing!! Thanks to you my bands first album is actually growing !! You are wonderful thank you ❤
I've been playing bass for fun for multiple years and got okay at playing my favorite spongs, but I realized I have almost no kmowledge of the basics like playing scales lol. Thanks a lot for for this great video
I am just starting to learn bass, and I knew that scales were important to know, but I couldn’t figure out how to apply them to making/learning songs. Once again, Bass Buzz is here to cut through the fog
JOSH- you’ve been a knowledgeable wizard showing me the light since I was young! Back in the bananas and dates era. I’m in my late 20s and learning bass and it’s so comforting to have you teaching me! You’ve managed you be a teacher in more than one area of life. I’m glad you exist! As if learning bass wasn’t fun enough 🎉
I am at a loss for words. I don’t even know what to really say. This is the most insane video I’ve seen and after watching it I feel like I could just practice bass guitar for hours and hours. This is literally what I was missing because honestly, I’ve been kind of trying to teach myself bass but it’s been either boring or I’ve been unmotivated but after watching this video it’s really lit that fired me to actually give this an honest try thank You
What a really fantastic bass lesson. I've been playing for over 30 years and still have trouble with scales. Yeah, I know the shapes for major, minor, blues, augmented but I am still not totally comfortable with them on the whole fretboard. This was a good workout and I love how you added the playing by ear. Thanks so much Josh! You're the best!
Thank you so much for making these videos! I've been learning bass for 2 weeks and thanks to this video, I've figured out how to play The Shire intro from LotR ALL BY MYSELF!!! And it's one of the best feelings ever! Keep doing this wonderful videos for noobs like me, we all enjoy them ❤
This video just helpes me understand bass scales because I looked up bass scales and just got like picture but didnt understand how to make the scale longer thanks for the explanation
Honestly others here have said it all regarding how enjoyable, funny and USEFUL your lessons are. I'm just adding to the comment stats here. I watch a number of other excellent music youtubers who vary from reviewers with extraordinary knowledge to teachers and you are truly gifted as a communicator and pack huge effective value in each episode. You've definitely found your natural path at a time when the world evolved to share it so effectively so fast. Given how many other things are plucked up, that paradigm is a blessing of escapism and creation. And FUN. 👍And btw, after seeing those others, who are great as well in their ways, I'm going to take that bass sitting in my closet for way too long out, and buy yours first. (That was the part that count$) 😏
Wow- that was what I was missing all these years trying to understand scales and what they mean and how they relate...subscribed and back practicing the bass again😍!!!!
I’ve been playing bass for awhile now, mostly just seeing TABS and playing them. But now I’m really trying to learn the basics and actually understand scales and what not. Excellent video, thanks! I've been playing since November 2022, and play by chords. When I would see what key the song is, I wasn't sure if I should pay attention to that or not. Now I know, what notes to add, instead of just root 5th, or root octave

Great info, well set out. Cheers. LOVE IT. I completely missed out on this information in my lessons. I finally have an understanding of it now Thanx 🙌🏼🌟
Hi Josh. Thank you so much for your amazing content! I’ve been watching your videos for a while and now I’m finally getting my first bass (a long overdue highschool dream.) Your lessons are super easy to follow and it’s very encouraging for a beginner like me to start learning. I can’t thank you enough🙏
I hope this lesson helped you learn bass scales… and didn’t activate your LEGO Acquisition Syndrome too hard. 🧱
If only there was a bass version..
Lol all your lessons are helping me get my grove back. 🎉
HAHAH man knows what he's talking about, I immediately had the urge of looking up that stratocaster set, these new adult Legos are pure evil.
I work for a LEGO website, learning bass is the one area of my life thst hasn't been dominated by LEGO in some way...until now 😂
the highlighted fretting finger is AWESOME, makes it so much easier to follow what your fretting hand is actually doing.
Agree! Never seen this done before. Josh leading the way in video learning aids.
Yes, absolutely!
This is legit one of the most useful bass lessons I've seen online. Excellent work Josh!
The glowing fingers eliminated all confusion. Your communication skills and creativity are amazing!
You just summed up scales for me in a way that no teacher could in all of my years of learning. You're amazing dude.
Dude same. I've been playing since I'm like 12 I'm 28 now 😅
I'm one of the weird guys that has excellent technique and a good ear but absolutely no knowledge of the neck or why things work together. I just hard memorized everything but only know how it sounds, not what it is.

Hey, I started playing bass in November 2022. I took in person lessons, which I'm glad I did, but I learned more with Josh.
Thank you so much for making the beginner to bad ass course it’s really been helping me learn bass.
Old guy here. Started playing bass 1 year ago. Thanks to you, I sound competent! Keep it up brotha!
Thank you! This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for! I can now get started! More like this please :-) Thank you!!!

This, sir, has been a complete eye-opener!! Huge thanks!🎉
A super introduction to playing the bass! which I keep meaning to do. I’m concerned though that playing Brown eyed girl in C sounded okay to me !!!
Been using your videos for the past few years and I’m always looking forward to learning more from you !! You make this so fun and understandable and actually make me look forward to practicing!! Thanks to you my bands first album is actually growing !! You are wonderful thank you ❤
This is a brilliant video. Josh remains one of the greatest bass teachers on YT
I've been playing for bout 16 yrs and have struggled with exactly what you talked about.
This is such good info!
Thank you BassBuzzBadass!

Great video! I wish this had been made years ago because it would have helped me learn the fretboard so much faster
Absolutely fantastic content, easy to understand, entertaining, and interesting as well. Thanks!
@BassBuzz
You Make It Look So Easy
Love Your Video's
the way you have fun making the video and the comments you do is really infectious, cheers Josh
Thank you so much for making these videos! I've been learning bass for 2 weeks and thanks to this video, I've figured out how to play The Shire intro from LotR ALL BY MYSELF!!! And it's one of the best feelings ever! Keep doing this wonderful videos for noobs like me, we all enjoy them ❤
That copy + paste part was amazing. Made it so much easier for me!
Wow josh this is the best scale lesson I've watched as a guitarist and bassist for 15 years, love you man
This video just helpes me understand bass scales because I looked up bass scales and just got like picture but didnt understand how to make the scale longer thanks for the explanation
Literally exactly what I needed right now. You always come through :)
I love this channel, not only it is extremely helpful but it’s also genuinely entertaining.
Thanks Josh! Been transitioning from guitar to bass over the last few months and your videos are extremely helpful
This is SO well done, like omg. The editing is top tier and your tips were easy and fun to follow while remaining super engaging. Thank you!!
Great video. Im self taught and i did not know that this pattern is somthing i have been playing for Awhile.
*THIS* is exactly what i've been looking for. Cheers!
Thanks you are so easy to understand, and for french speaking like me, so nice when you sing frère Jacques 😂
Given how many other things are plucked up, that paradigm is a blessing of escapism and creation. (That was the part that count$) 😏
I just used this method. I am a beginner and found it made the song simple. I didn’t even need to see the chord sheet to play with the song. Thanks.
If you’re in the same boat as me- I feel like a good, pretty cool, song to figure out by ear is “When You Were Young” by The Killers. I also think it’s a great song to practice your own lines because there’s plenty of play space to fill in!
It’s E major and B major (at least for the bass)
Your fantastic method of teaching is amazing. Thank you so much.
This is such a good video no matter how skilled. I understood most of the scales but actually applying them has been a lil bit tricky. These bass buzz vids have made me such a better bass player.
Thanks for these videos Josh! You have no idea how much this helps me
This is the best way scales have ever been explained to me. I’m only one month into base but I played piano for 6 years.
This was actually the first really good explanation I've ever seen of what you can really use the scales for.
This is a super good description, thanks a bunch, dude!
Happy New year Josh, excellent video to start 2024 off with.
Great video. I just decided to try Bass Buzz for all the reasons it's an overwhelmimg fave in these comments. And didn't chose others, while still watvhing and appreciating them, for the same reasons others cite here. It's got to be fun and you have to connect. Music is more about that, than anything. Creativity, emotion and connection.
Excellent video, thanks! I've been playing since November 2022, and play by chords. When I would see what key the song is, I wasn't sure if I should pay attention to that or not. Now I know, what notes to add, instead of just root 5th, or root octave
I've been dreading to learn scales for over 20 years. Because I was looking at a huge pile of Lego bricks. You are a master of simplifying stuff like this and making it approachable for noobs like me. You actually make me want to practice scales now!
This is the most helpful bass video i've ever watched. I felt so stuck and didn't see the point of scales until I watched it 🙌
Doin scales right now.Had to stop with a great headache. This is how I got Lesson 4 and 5 in MOD4 completed. It helped me do the fret board.
You're just the best bass teacher ever! And probably one of the best teacher at all...
@bob brickman 0:25 das war unerwartet dein Werk hier zu sehen
As the Queen of Microshifting I spotted it immediately >_> And helped a new musician at Guitar Center with it when he asked about reaching for notes.
Switching into "heavy gear" is why I play a 5-string tuned ADGCF >_> But seriously, playing Mr. Crowley and octave down is savage lol
I roll shiny math rocks (dice) myself XD
I can also recommend Josh's course for beginner bass players. It's great. Thanks for sharing!
Your lessons always stick well with me. I'm so glad I found this channel, holy shit.
Thanks, fren!
as an ex cellist and now a bassist i really appreciate yo-yo ma playing the 1st suite for cello. thank you so much!!
If you don’t mind me asking why did you stop playing cello?
This was fantastic. Using the number generator and legos is a great way to show the infinite possibility and creativity with just the major scale. I admit that I have been stuck on playing things (I didn''t need encouragement to steal lol) and just grinding through it, and my freestyling was lacking. But really seeing the different applications in real music + your crazy solos really shows that even a 1-2-3 pattern can be amazing if you get the speed and muscle memory down
Also copy paste is a great way to visualize going higher or lower on the scales. Amazing video.
Thank you Mr. Buzz
Holy Sheet! This video helped. I can now see the scales in my head and on the fretboard. Thank you so much!
This is an amazing lesson! Thanks so much for doing this. I just started playing bass a while ago (ok, a year ago) and I am conflicted if I should take expensive lessons or maybe buy your lesson series. This video has helped convince me that I should maybe get your course.
This has been the most helpful video i have found omg. Everything has cleared up wayyyy moreee thank you :)
this dude can teach some bass, seriously one of the best on youtube and I've watched a lot of them.
You are genius! You simplified the process for beginners! I also got something very helpful from your video, thank you!!
Thank you for this, Josh. I'm starting to understand how to construct bass lines....this was really clear. Also, if it's a Cabernet or Merlot....YES!
Long time guitarist trying to learn Bass. This is great content. Thanks!
Thank you so much I totally understand these scale graphs now, I love BassBuzz!
Great info, well set out. Cheers. LOVE IT. I completely missed out on this information in my lessons. I finally have an understanding of it now
Thanx 🙌🏼🌟
Hi Josh. Thank you so much for your amazing content! I’ve been watching your videos for a while and now I’m finally getting my first bass (a long overdue highschool dream.) Your lessons are super easy to follow and it’s very encouraging for a beginner like me to start learning. I can’t thank you enough🙏
Beautifully Created There Brother Man
Cheers
Your videos just keep getting better and funnier! Thoroughly enjoy them!
