I hope this lesson helped you learn bass scales… and didn’t activate your LEGO Acquisition Syndrome too hard. 🧱
On the first view of that lego kit I was sunk!
If only there was a bass version..
Lol all your lessons are helping me get my grove back. 🎉
HAHAH man knows what he's talking about, I immediately had the urge of looking up that stratocaster set, these new adult Legos are pure evil.
Great job you help my mind to understand things basic too many instruction vids skip this stuff because they know people want instant gratification without putting in the time and effort
the highlighted fretting finger is AWESOME, makes it so much easier to follow what your fretting hand is actually doing.
Agree! Never seen this done before. Josh leading the way in video learning aids.
Yes, absolutely!
This is legit one of the most useful bass lessons I've seen online. Excellent work Josh!
I work for a LEGO website, learning bass is the one area of my life thst hasn't been dominated by LEGO in some way...until now 😂
You just summed up scales for me in a way that no teacher could in all of my years of learning. You're amazing dude.
Dude same. I've been playing since I'm like 12 I'm 28 now 😅
I'm one of the weird guys that has excellent technique and a good ear but absolutely no knowledge of the neck or why things work together. I just hard memorized everything but only know how it sounds, not what it is.
The glowing fingers eliminated all confusion. Your communication skills and creativity are amazing!
After two years playing without an idea of what I was doing I've been looking for theory starter videos for months, but i couldn't realize exactly how to do or It seen to be difficult, but this video has helped me to start knowing what I play! Thanks a lot dude I will remember you as the guy opened me the door of real music.
Finally, finger presses can be discerned via that little graphic animation...and highleted finger on the fretboard....also you (finally) tie in the significance of scales, notes and shapes (patterns). Thank you Buzz.
Thank you! This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for! I can now get started! More like this please :-) Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for making the beginner to bad ass course it’s really been helping me learn bass.
The lesson I didn’t know I was waiting for…💡💡💡 Heard it in bits here and there but never in a way that joined the dots.
Many, many, thanks you lovely dot joiner!!
This is like new math. The standard way is much slower and to be honest boring so ppl lose interest and put that bass in the closest.
Please never lose your sense of humour and way of explaining things! I enjoy your delivery and am always laughing while learning from you; best combo!
Hey Josh, I just want to thank you for making the videos that you do. I’ve been playing bass for almost 5 months now. I take lessons but those are only once a week. But people like you and Scott Devine have helped me so much into speeding up my progress. Watching your videos like this has helped me move around the fretboard easier, better technique, and this video where you give good tips on scales. I love these videos man
Hey, I started playing bass in November 2022. I took in person lessons, which I'm glad I did, but I learned more with Josh.
Old guy here. Started playing bass 1 year ago. Thanks to you, I sound competent! Keep it up brotha!
I haven't made it all the way to the end yet... and I've been working on what I've watched so far. I just wanted to stop and say THANK YOU. I've been playing guitar and bass from close to 30 years (totally embarrassed to say that), and your teaching is the first time the 'theory' side of things has ever made any sense to me. I could cry, I'd give you a big hug if I could (You: "Please don't"). I think this is really going to lift my music up from the rut I'm in, and it'll be way more fun to 'play'. So Thanks, again, you're brilliant!
I’ve been watching your old scale videos for like a week so an update is super timely
Hi @BassBuzz , I got in an accident and broke my finger to a crumb, now I'm trying to learn the bass for rehab. You're an absolute godsent for me. Love your super intuitive teaching 💕
Best of luck healing!
@@judih.8754 thank you judih, yk I had the first live performance of my life with my band today and I cannot be happier. This guy taught me bass
I am blown away by the fender Lego kit. It broke my attention for sure, awesome scene.
This, sir, has been a complete eye-opener!! Huge thanks!🎉
Josh. You are a star! I need to return to this again and again and ....
I've had over 20 Lessons with a teacher, watched a ton of videos, read stuff etc. Never have i understood the major scale this well! Thank you so much for giving me something i can work on. Probably also gonna start the Course in a while. Keep rocking dude, you are awesome!
Your videos inspired me more than you can imagine. Thanks you.
I love when you go the number of the beast at 12:14
Dude I just figured out how much material uploaded everywhere. Thank you very much for all the info you shared and the time and effort. Grtz from the Netherlands
*THIS* is exactly what i've been looking for. Cheers!
Thank you so much! I'm always impressed how you put so many precious tips into short and funny pieces of content. I've been playing bass for 15 years and always learn something new from you. I love what you do and just listening to you talking about your passion makes my day better and encourages me to practise more. Thank you ❤ and the "want a sip of wine!?" part cracked me the heck up lol
Literally exactly what I needed right now. You always come through :)
Thanks for another great theory video. I just picked the bass back up after about 10 years away and your 10 minute everyday practice routine has been my go to for rebuilding dexterity and speed. Really appreciate the great tips and tricks!
That copy + paste part was amazing. Made it so much easier for me!
Thank you so much I totally understand these scale graphs now, I love BassBuzz!
Thanks for these videos Josh! You have no idea how much this helps me
Been using your videos for the past few years and I’m always looking forward to learning more from you !! You make this so fun and understandable and actually make me look forward to practicing!! Thanks to you my bands first album is actually growing !! You are wonderful thank you ❤
Just picked up learning the bass this week on a Yamaha trbx304 (per your video) and loving it so far.
This video has come at the right time for me-thanks!
I've been playing for bout 16 yrs and have struggled with exactly what you talked about.
This is such good info!
Thank you BassBuzzBadass!
This is the best lesson on scales that I have ever seen. The copy and paste part blew my mind 🤯 thanks for explaining to us slow learner's, keep up the amazing work 🎉
This is the most helpful bass video i've ever watched. I felt so stuck and didn't see the point of scales until I watched it 🙌
Love you, Josh - the patron saint of newbs.
Your fantastic method of teaching is amazing. Thank you so much.
Thank you!!! I went to my local music store and the bass method section was the puniest most pathetic little section I've ever seen. You've really given me the tools to improve with your channel that I didn't know how to properly source before! Your the best! Thank you for being a passionate bass head! It's contagious haha
Absolutely fantastic content, easy to understand, entertaining, and interesting as well. Thanks!
This is a super good description, thanks a bunch, dude!
This is SO well done, like omg. The editing is top tier and your tips were easy and fun to follow while remaining super engaging. Thank you!!
I'm so glad that i found your channel, and buying your beginner yo badass was the best decision, i learned a lot in a really short span of time, i love playing bass, learning songs, improvising, I'm so glad and grateful, thanks, you're an awesome teacher, maybe I misspelled something, I never studied english sorry, but thanks and greetings from Argentina. ❤
Great video. Im self taught and i did not know that this pattern is somthing i have been playing for Awhile.
Thank you Mr. Buzz
@BassBuzz
You Make It Look So Easy
Love Your Video's
Wow josh this is the best scale lesson I've watched as a guitarist and bassist for 15 years, love you man
JOSH- you’ve been a knowledgeable wizard showing me the light since I was young! Back in the bananas and dates era. I’m in my late 20s and learning bass and it’s so comforting to have you teaching me! You’ve managed you be a teacher in more than one area of life. I’m glad you exist! As if learning bass wasn’t fun enough 🎉
Thanks Josh! Been transitioning from guitar to bass over the last few months and your videos are extremely helpful
This is a brilliant video. Josh remains one of the greatest bass teachers on YT
This was actually the first really good explanation I've ever seen of what you can really use the scales for.
Outstanding lesson!!!!!
Your videos just keep getting better and funnier! Thoroughly enjoy them!
This video is exactly what I was looking and didn't even know it. I have been playing scales and really didn't understand how to form them into something that could be used to play musically. This video gave me that light bulb moment. Thank you so much I can't wait and try out what I have learned from you.
I played in bands for almost 20 years without learning any scales. I know them now, but my first bass was fretless, and I learned to play by ear, by sliding to the correct notes.
What a really fantastic bass lesson. I've been playing for over 30 years and still have trouble with scales. Yeah, I know the shapes for major, minor, blues, augmented but I am still not totally comfortable with them on the whole fretboard. This was a good workout and I love how you added the playing by ear. Thanks so much Josh! You're the best!
Happy New year Josh, excellent video to start 2024 off with.
Holy Sheet! This video helped. I can now see the scales in my head and on the fretboard. Thank you so much!
Thanks so much, what a great video. Very well explained.
I love this channel, not only it is extremely helpful but it’s also genuinely entertaining.
Dude thank you so much for these videos. The struggle is real for some of us. Self taught and still didn't know what I was doing. Was stuck in a rut for so long. Had friends over the years tell me "play this or that" but never really went deeper and they themselves couldn't explain why and what they were doing. Thank you.
Long time guitarist trying to learn Bass. This is great content. Thanks!
I’m definitely a Microshifter; after 13 years in the Army and ten years out on the homestead my hands are like hooves - LOL
Wow- that was what I was missing all these years trying to understand scales and what they mean and how they relate...subscribed and back practicing the bass again😍!!!!
Great video! I wish this had been made years ago because it would have helped me learn the fretboard so much faster
Another great lesson, and explanation!
That´s the Point. Learn to transfer the Scale in something useful like a Riff or Melody. You nailed that. Playing something by Ear what you heard makes a good Practice. The Scale is the Tool.
Most grateful Sir.
i love you josh. i’d be nothing without you josh. blessed may you be forevermore
Great lesson Josh! Thank you
thank you :) I'm learning so much from your videos, they are great!
Very well done. Great 👍👍
Thanks you are so easy to understand, and for french speaking like me, so nice when you sing frère Jacques 😂
A super introduction to playing the bass! which I keep meaning to do. I’m concerned though that playing Brown eyed girl in C sounded okay to me !!!
This is an excellent lesson for beginners. I think it is funny how the thumbnail says not to use the full fretboard visualization technique, but that is probably the best the next step after these beginner suggestions. The "copy paste" step is a good way to start to learn the full fretboard, but after that IMO it is best to learn the positions from the nut to the bridge. There is no need to jump directly to "The Beast" exercise, but it is very helpful to start working on position shifting and visualizing the full fretboard right after learning this "box" scale.
I just used this method. I am a beginner and found it made the song simple. I didn’t even need to see the chord sheet to play with the song. Thanks.
Beautiful. So well explained (with such a good touch of humor) and extremely useful. Many thanks!!
I really enjoy your videos; always informative, helpful and very funny.
Thank you so much for doing this!
I am just starting to learn bass, and I knew that scales were important to know, but I couldn’t figure out how to apply them to making/learning songs. Once again, Bass Buzz is here to cut through the fog
Very helpful lesson.
Happy New Year and Thanks for your valuable/quality/original/fun/useful content!!!
Hi Josh. Thank you so much for your amazing content! I’ve been watching your videos for a while and now I’m finally getting my first bass (a long overdue highschool dream.) Your lessons are super easy to follow and it’s very encouraging for a beginner like me to start learning. I can’t thank you enough🙏
Major scale is Man Who Sold The World chorus bass line 😊
Great eye opener of video
You are genius! You simplified the process for beginners! I also got something very helpful from your video, thank you!!
This is such a good video no matter how skilled. I understood most of the scales but actually applying them has been a lil bit tricky. These bass buzz vids have made me such a better bass player.
Gracias por compartir tus conocimientos y trucos. Un abrazo desde Argentina
Awesome lesson Josh.
Beautiful lesson! Material, Jokes, graphics - magnificent!❤
One of the best explanations of scales I've ever seen.
this dude can teach some bass, seriously one of the best on youtube and I've watched a lot of them.
Great video. can I make you a suggestion? I´m a bass beginner, and if I play video en 0,1x speed I can follow you. For beginners everything you say is new and need some moments to get it. It´s seems like you are talking to an experience audience. But great anyway.
Another great video, thanks:)
this lesson was so helpful, man! thank you for highlighting the fretting fingers! 😭🙌
You're just the best bass teacher ever! And probably one of the best teacher at all...
Thank you for this, Josh. I'm starting to understand how to construct bass lines....this was really clear. Also, if it's a Cabernet or Merlot....YES!
If i would start my bass life with that kind of teaching i would save hundreds of hours
Very helpful and also entertaining!
I'm about halfway through the 1-month hardcore BassBuzz course and love it. Had just started playing Bass in October and couldn't have found a better way to really get going and learn a crap ton in a quick period of time. It's challenging, but easy to follow along with and gradually steps you up as you move along, so you never feel overwhelmed at all. HIGHLY recommend it. (No.. I was not paid for this!)
