We know what we got wrong, sorry all. Hope you all still enjoyed the show!
(Graham is especially embarrassed about the Spine… turns out we all had a collective hallucination about what that card actually does!)
I think he mixed it up with Unstable Obelisk's sacrifice effect
It's not a big deal. I know I did the comment thing if listing mistakes in another comment, but the joy of EDSC is the socials between you delightful guys. Any mistakes are part of the charm.
Buddies, mistakes happen. In no way did that ruin the experience. Your chemistry together makes this a wonderful episode. :)
However. I appreciate the fact that you do acknowledge your mistakes nonetheless, as this makes the rest of the comment section far more nuanced.
Thank you for a great episode.
Yeah.. It's just that the Effigy literally says on it that it isn't a creature, even trough it copies creatures.
Yeah I said in an earlier comment that it really doesn't matter, and to be absolutely fair these decks were COMPLICATED. The video was still a heck of a lot of fun, and you guys were GREAT. Fantastic work as always, and that's what really matters.
Serge : "Xyris also joins the world of untappidies"
Ben : "Ah yes, Untapedes, my favorite demon"
Graham : "Ah yes, Untapedes, the famous ancient greek MTG philosopher"
Cameron : "Untapideez nuts"
Cameron as always bringing the most cultured take to the table
The only bad part of this series is that it's monthly. But it's one heck of a highlight for my month. Love to see it.
I feel you ;)
True this and Candlander Showdown I wish both had more episodes, Weekly would be sweet. I also miss the $20 budget lgs deck builds they had done.
I loved Ben scolding Serge “well Grahams a competent player, I’m sure he’d have figured it out. But next time shut up!”
Shout-out to Cameron almost saying "Blackbord Reflaged" and barely catching himself, that was funny as hell
Blackblort Rephaged, an infamous non-bo with Stoneforge Mystic.
"Normally, Graham's an idiot" - Major call back. Absolutely love this and EDSC in general. It's a fantastic series!
“I could sacrifice my Cathar and forget to attack…”
I was half expecting Cameron or Ben to respond to Serge like "... Adam?" while looking around the room, and kinda disappointed it didn't happen, but it's also possible and I think even likely it was an "unintentional" callback given that was from multiple PPRs and literal months ago. Especially with the holidays in between as well.
I was not ready for Serge to start doing the uWu voice, nearly killed me
He's the pwemie wands piwot of the fowmat. :3
No-one noticing Serge having 2 combat steps on the one turn at 59:00ish.
i think they probably noticed, but since its a casual friendly game didnt say anything.
It also didn't change anything I don't think. The snakes didn't get any bigger from the two cards played and one of the two was known already
Yeah I was only half listening at the time and noticed something funny. Serge attacked, drew cards, cast more stuff, and then was attacking again.
Noticed it.
Did no one see that Serge tried to cast Nethroi for mutate the first time a turn or two after this and not pay any mana for it after Cameron destroyed the mutate target? And then because of this, he was able to have mana open to Beast Within Graham's dragon copy.
Spine puts itself back into your hand when it dies, it doesn't kill something when it dies
Huh. I have been misremembering how that card works for a long time.
Tru. Killing 1 or 2 permanents every turn still tends to be pretty good though
I definitely noticed that myself and was kind of banging my head against the wall over it for a bit since it altered the board state so dramatically by letting that dragon live when it should have died, but I just kept reminding myself that this is SUPPOSED to just be fun casual content and the dynamic of the table and the game is still super fun, and even if mistakes happen that's okay. Still loved the video and I love all the stuff you guys put out. Keep up the great work.
I believe they mixed it up with Unstable Obelisk's sacrifice effect, its the only thing that makes sense to me
@@pencilkase I figure they had it confused with Sundering Titan since that triggers both when it enters and when it leaves.
'Why didn't you do that earlier?'
"Because I forget it was there" - Truly a timeless Commander story that we can all relate to (and have done).
Pretty sure Cameron's 6/6 demon was still indestructible when that board wipe went off
Yep and lifelink
If referring to Urzas ruinous blast, it was an exile effect..
yeah should have stuck around after time wipe
@@rogerwhite5777 well its legendary, so even then, no
@@rogerwhite5777 It died to the Time Wipe, not the Urza's Blast
Love the snek graphic on Graham's life when Serge hit him with all those snakes. Great editing to those who worked on this.
4:35 small note and entirely coincidental, but I like how the group has this conversation about Affinity and Gavin put out a video talking about doing more one-off cards with deciduous mechanics (which Flashback and Affinity are) and how we can expect to see it used in the future
For anyone interested: ruclips.net/video/xUTysFUNdjc/видео.html
They're making a few of these simpler mechanics 'deciduous', meaning they're easy enough to understand they're just going to use them when appropriate. Cast from the yard? Flashback. Costs less? Affinity for X. He says they are doing this with several different mechanics/keywords.
Deciduous only matters for Standard sets. Commander has always been able to do whatever.
Great episode as always!
Note at 1:26:24, Machine God's Effigy has reminder text that when it copies it won't be a creature. You wouldn't be able to attack with the Effigy Hellkite igniters, as they'd just be bricks representing dragons.
Makes me think of a blocky Minecraft dragon
"Thopter, you're here?" Best lol line of the show 😂
"Especially if we want the game to end quickly" *looks at length of episode* Oh thats not happening G.
Love this as always!
Every time you release one of these videos I get so excited. Please keep them coming your commander content is fantastic.
Best Commander content on the entire internet hands down bar none.
Likeable hosts
Not edited to the point of choppiness
Just delightful
I absolutely love LRR Commander games, I wish there were more than once per month, but I know it was almost every friday night before.
Just feel bad for Cam, as he should have kept his demon when Serge board wiped as it was still indestructible from Dihada, but I know the game was winding down anyways and he had to leave
I love how you could tell Serge was repeatedly confused about Graham's Spine misconception, and was too polite / too unsure of it himself to actually step in and correct it.
Love whenever the Social Club meets. The table is fun, everyone playing and joking makes it so much better and friendly.
EDSC definitely has the best soundtrack of all the EDH shows. That theme tune is a banger!
Great game, appreciate you guys.
Just for fun, I wonder... at 1:18:15 Cam's Koth is indest until his next turn, so the Time Wipe at 1:21:08 wouldn't have destroyed it, a good blocker for Graham's Dragon at 1:25:00. I wonder what it would have changed. Probably not a lot. A satisfying conclusion. Thanks for staying as long as you did, Cam
Have a good one!
1:19:25 correction on the mutate rules: a mutated permanent is best described as being the card on top, with all the abilities of the cards underneath. Serge would indeed have to put Nethroi underneath the kavu token in order for it to still have all five colours in its colour identity. The only characteristic that carries over from cards underneath is the state of being a commander, because if your commander card is part of a merged permanent, that permanent is your commander regardless of anything else; that's not relevant here, but it is still important to know.
I know this because I once killed my Daxos which had toughness equal to devotion to white by mutating a red card on him
10:25 Oh my god, this killed me. I was cry-laughing right alongside Graham.
On the note of the dragon and it's age, double strike was around for two sets before they switched to the new borders
A note on Mutate - it adds the ability text of all lower cards on to the top creature. So to achieve a 5C mutated thing, Serge must put Nethroi below the Kavu
In the case of the Kavu this is actually not true, because "This creature is all colors" is ability text of the Kavu.
NORMALLY yes, this is correct. However, the Kavu specifically has the *ability* “This card is all five colours”, because apparently WotC decided that’s better than using a 5 colour identity symbol.
Weirdly, this is actually rules text, as on Transguild Courier, and will cause the mutated pile to be 5C no matter what.
@@Dragiceoriginal What makes you say this is rules text? The token is printed that way, but the ability as printed on Jared Carthalion would indicate that the color is set by the effect creating the token, not a token with text that reads "~ is all colors"
@@lhopitalified Similar rulings on Transguild Courier is why. It was oracled to a colour identifier, then back to functional rules text. If it’s not an identifier, it’s actually functional text.
It used to come up a lot in old Kamigawa with Evermind
@@Dragiceoriginal It's not rules text. Tokens aren't printed cards with Oracle text, they're reminders of things that other cards create. You have to refer to whatever created them to figure out their text. Jared himself does not give the creature an ability granting it all colors, like Transguild Courier has. It simply is all colors. Technically the token is misprinted; the color note should be reminder text. Jared would have to be written something like, "Create a 3/3 Kavu creature token with ""This creature is all colors"." for this to be true.
I need an uWuBRG t-shirt in the LRR Shop like right meow.
love how the prophesty about serge was so close to coming true :D
"Cwystal Qwawwy, it Tops for a Couwuwiss" I am deceased
Recently saw that the EDSC sleeves are back in stock and had to snag a pack irght away. Now to wait as they fly across the globe. Also: New episode, babyyyy!
Surge also had it correct how mutate works. The card only gains the text box of the bottom card. Nothing else. So no color, no power, no legendary.
I mean... technically the textbox on the token says "this creature is all colors" but I don't think that counts towards the mutate 🤔
@@andrewtl7988 You're correct. It's actually different wording then Transguild Courier, technically the Kavu token should probably have "This is all colors" in reminder text. Jared would have to say something like, "make a Kavu with 'this creature is all colors'." or something actually giving it an ability.
Wheeler has explained that eggs are one mana and nuts are 2 mana. (name comes from the nuts and bolts deck that had 2 mana artifacts that drew cards)
Thank you so much for editing this in a way that remains very legible on my phone.
Oh absolutely, this helps out a ton!
I just about spit out my coffee at Graham's opening hand. WOW.
I really don't mind the misplays and I don't want to be that guy, but Cameron dying when he should have had Kothophed to block because it had indestructible when Serge played his Time Wipe makes me sad just because I like seeing Cameron succeed.
Edit: Oh I see that he had places to be, so him losing in that case was totally fine! Either way, I just want him to know that he does have people rooting for him.
Finally a new episode! This is the best Commander Series on RUclips.
Words cannot express how wonderful you people are thanks so much for the smiles :)
I could be wrong, but I think spine of ish sah was supposed to go back to Grahams hand once it hit the graveyard
You're not. It also doesn't blow things up when it leaves. But the game goes for TWO HOURS so I don't think he got excessive value from this, haha
@@TundraWolfe thats the point. he should have goten enormous value from spine. thats why its in this deck. this affected the game immensly.
what i got from this is that even if i think card is universaly known (like spine) it might not be the case and therefore i should always read the cards to make sure it does what i think it does and correct other players if they make mistake.
Graham's beard is healing. All is well in the world!
This is THE funniest mtg commander channel on youtube. I dont think I've laughed this hard watching magic.
i love the opens of all LRR shows.. they are always hillarious
I like that turn when Serg was just like, I'mma attack you so we draw cards, then plays cards and then is like now to attack with my sneks! and no one catchs he attacked twice in the same turn
The Blackblade is in the Dihada deck for flavor reasons - following MTG Wiki - "he _(Dakkon)_ was visited by the planeswalker Geyadrone Dihada, who offered to make him a planeswalker if he would make her the most powerful blade in existence, the Blackblade."
1:13:38-1:13:50 “Dodged that bullet.”
And yet, that’s how *I* won once when I played that deck. One of my happiest victories.
"I'll take you to the thopter shop.
For a taste of thop thop thop."
at 59:00 Serge attacked twice in a turn lol
Ben: Here's my guy Armix. He mercs a guy when he attacks based a lot on the amount of artifacts in my graveyard.
*20 seconds later*
Cam: Bojuka Bog Graham
I laughed. In fairness, Cam was super overwhelmed and it's easy to see why and Ben's graveyard was mostly empty with no artifacts anyway.
Normally for commander vods I comment and point out the boo boos so people can hopefully take that knowledge away to use in their own games, but since that's, like, ALL the other comments I think I'll refrain this time. Just remember everyone, playing Magic is very complicated, but performing playing Magic is much worse. Be gentle with your content creators.
I LOVE EDSC. LRR does such a great job working on these and they're clearly having a great time, which is what Commander is all about. I loved LRR content for a long time, but EDSC pushed it over the top where I have to become a patron to help make sure this keeps happening.
"I don't think there are any graveyard synergies in this deck" *Laughs in Primeval's Glorious Rebirth
When Graham said "Jared" with that level of enthusiasm in the intro, as a Jared, I can confidently say that is appropriate.
They completely misread Spine of Ish.
Couple of card misreads from Graham: spine doesn't vindicate again on the way out, instead it returns to hand, and machine god's effigy specifically comes in as a copy of a creature *but is not a creature* it's just an artifact. The multi kill couldn't happen, cos the extra hellkites couldn't attack
As soon as I saw the clip of Graham asking how nasty he should play, I knew he was running one of the Brothers War precons.
Maybe, the Dihada deck is more powerful. I've played these four decks against each other twice and it was never close.
Another excellent EDSC. Rules mishaps and card misunderstandings happen, but it's no big deal. Y'all are excellent performers and I was smiling the whole way through this.
the taxonomy of leviathan and snek big is exactly what I expect from this series
Serge: What does that [card] do?
Me: THAT WAS YOUR PREVIEW CARD FOR DOMINARIA
Kothophed was like "Hey boss, check out all these souls I collected!"
roboticists trying to replicate Geckos helped biologists realize that their tails are like kick stands. if their hands slip the tail catches them and pushes them back towards the surface they are climbing. (in response to the roboticist snake story)
EDSC is such a great series. Always look forward to it
2:13 fun fact: in Switzerland we play counterclockwise because we play "de Ohrfiige nah" which translates to "the direction you would slap your someone"
When we eventually go back to Ravnica, again, I would love to see an episode w/ the Bylaw and Order crew! I've been rewatching the series again and man I love that campaign!
There was actually a Commander game where the Bylaw and Order crew played their characters, as custom commanders someone made for them! Its worth looking up, it's fun.
Loadingreadyrun and arguments about snake taxonomy, no duo more iconic than that
"I don't think there are any graveyard synergies in this deck"
"Oh yea, I have this card that returns all Legendaries to the battlefield"
Devious.
I picked up the Urza deck around release because I love the retro-frame style. It has unironically become one of my favourite decks. Even before all the upgrades (having 3 different Urza's in play at once is always funny) it was such a crazy strong momentum deck.
So... Graham forgets he can return the Spine back to his hand as its leaving for the Graveyard. I'm sure this is fine. We're not looking for Game Day winner plays here.
He also destroyed something when it died, which is essentially game changing for Cameron and himself for the thing you mentioned... That misread and misplay was pretty insane to make in my opinion. Its like they have never seen any of the cards, not only the new ones. The fact that no one caught that really bugged me tbh.
Such an awesome playgroup though.
@@karateLynge if you were that person, wouldn't reading your comment be really insulting?
They're not in a tournament, they're trying to be entertaining, mistakes are NBD.
@@Venoseth Well... not really no. I dont look for ways to be insulted all the time, and think it is fair to assume no one else does either.
They have made a comment now as well, so is all good. Was a great game overall, even with the mistakes, and I hope I conveyed that as well. :)
Slightly misread the spine of ish sah - it doesn't destroy another thing when it goes to the graveyard, it returns itself to hand
I thought Serge was going to catch this because he looked confused when it happened.
To pile all bigger missplays into one spot: The Time Wipe didn't kill Kothophed since it was still indestructible from Dihada's +2. So the single Igniter couldn't have killed him. R.I.P. Cam :(
@@felixbarth3103 Machine God's Effigy doesn't copy types, so that's a big one too.
It makes a manarock copy, not a body.
@@Alikaoz That one was actualyy correct. The Effigy becomes an artifact copy of a creature with the ability to tap for blue. It only gains the artifact type more or less like a Phyrexian Metamorph.
@@felixbarth3103 from the gatherer rulings: Machine God’s Effigy will not copy any types (such as creature or enchantment) or non-artifact subtypes (such as Phyrexian or Elf) that creature had, but it will copy any supertypes, such as legendary, and artifact subtypes (such as Treasure or Vehicle). It also has the same name, so if you copy a legendary creature you control, you will need to choose one of them to put in your graveyard due to the legend rule.
I have three of these decks (never picked up the legends matter deck from Dominaria). They're all super fun to play out of the box. I usually mine my precons for pieces for other decks, but I'm leaving these three intact.
Everyone on LRR is fabulous, but this is my favourite LRR quartet, always a delight to see them do stuff together. Much love to you all, thanks for bringing us a fun show
I love games with this group, Its always so entertaining I need it more often
Excellent, as always. Thank you.
1:27:00 Machine God's Effigy copies a Creature except it's an Artifact and only an Artifact, not an Artifact Creature, it is best used to Copy Creatures with Activated Abilities (you can use it to circumvent summoning sickness for Tap-Abilities) or to be brought in as itself and then copied by Mishra so that it can copy a different Creature every turn
1:00:15 thing to note Surge shouldn't have been able to swing at Grahm with the snakes because he went to combat earlier to hit Ben with the Big Snake (Snake Big) then did other stuff. Still great content as always.
you guys are so funny, that was great. Cam seems like the coolest dude ever
This may be the most engaged I've been, in the history of content. Maybe ever
31:00 "I have a vanilla 8/8".
I own that precon and have won with that specific 8/8 before. Its a very good rate
18:56 It's true, we learned that from Adam during the Midnight Hunt PPR
Graham keep going with the Hulk Hogan Mustache. It's really great!
Bingeing all these episodes. Love this content!
Very glad for another episode!
Always a good day when we get more EDSC.
Yes! Been waiting for more EDSC.
It shocked me the first time I played Mishra, just how good the deck was. It might be the strongest precon released. Definitely top 5 of all time.
I really enjoy this format, powererd down commander feels pretty chill ^^
I love this show. Marionette Master is one of my favorite win conditions ever, and Cursed Mirror is my favorite card of 2021, so this was my favorite episode so far
What a coincidence, I just got my EDSC sleeves in the mail today!
I was losing it during that crystal quarry interaction
1:10:50 Ben bullying Serge about his understanding of numbers greater than 4? The throwback!
It’s fun when the crew plays precons bc they’ve never played the decks before, but also leads misplays since no one has played with the cards 🤷🏻♂️ still a lot of fun, love the series fam
That grixis deck is a damn house
My favorite commander pod!!
It feels less bad that Cam got eliminated via a play error if he had better things to do :D
Bad beats when Cam's graveyard got exiled after Ben looked at his hand 😕
Cameron was on game with his puns... XD
The brother vs brother was fun. Mishra is one of the most fun precons I have played.
1:21:54 Dihada's +2 lasts until your next turn.
Took me many games to realize that myself.
Ben’s intro makes me wonder what Commander would be like with Reverse and Skip cards like Uno.
I see Graham's lustrous locks are starting to come back, good stuff
Walter White sitting inside car:
CAMERON! Your creature has indestructible and flying! It lasts until your next turn! You can still make it out alive! CAM!!!
Great episode as always. Love the banter and precon gameplay. Looking forward to the next one :)
25:30 Cameron you don't have to wait! Historic brawl is the same and has the "move to command zone?" prompt
love it! great video!
