We know what we got wrong, sorry all. Hope you all still enjoyed the show! (Graham is especially embarrassed about the Spine… turns out we all had a collective hallucination about what that card actually does!)
It's not a big deal. I know I did the comment thing if listing mistakes in another comment, but the joy of EDSC is the socials between you delightful guys. Any mistakes are part of the charm.
Buddies, mistakes happen. In no way did that ruin the experience. Your chemistry together makes this a wonderful episode. :) However. I appreciate the fact that you do acknowledge your mistakes nonetheless, as this makes the rest of the comment section far more nuanced. Thank you for a great episode.
Yeah I said in an earlier comment that it really doesn't matter, and to be absolutely fair these decks were COMPLICATED. The video was still a heck of a lot of fun, and you guys were GREAT. Fantastic work as always, and that's what really matters.
Serge : "Xyris also joins the world of untappidies" Ben : "Ah yes, Untapedes, my favorite demon" Graham : "Ah yes, Untapedes, the famous ancient greek MTG philosopher" Cameron : "Untapideez nuts"
I was half expecting Cameron or Ben to respond to Serge like "... Adam?" while looking around the room, and kinda disappointed it didn't happen, but it's also possible and I think even likely it was an "unintentional" callback given that was from multiple PPRs and literal months ago. Especially with the holidays in between as well.
I definitely noticed that myself and was kind of banging my head against the wall over it for a bit since it altered the board state so dramatically by letting that dragon live when it should have died, but I just kept reminding myself that this is SUPPOSED to just be fun casual content and the dynamic of the table and the game is still super fun, and even if mistakes happen that's okay. Still loved the video and I love all the stuff you guys put out. Keep up the great work.
Did no one see that Serge tried to cast Nethroi for mutate the first time a turn or two after this and not pay any mana for it after Cameron destroyed the mutate target? And then because of this, he was able to have mana open to Beast Within Graham's dragon copy.
Great episode as always! Note at 1:26:24, Machine God's Effigy has reminder text that when it copies it won't be a creature. You wouldn't be able to attack with the Effigy Hellkite igniters, as they'd just be bricks representing dragons.
4:35 small note and entirely coincidental, but I like how the group has this conversation about Affinity and Gavin put out a video talking about doing more one-off cards with deciduous mechanics (which Flashback and Affinity are) and how we can expect to see it used in the future
For anyone interested: ruclips.net/video/xUTysFUNdjc/видео.html They're making a few of these simpler mechanics 'deciduous', meaning they're easy enough to understand they're just going to use them when appropriate. Cast from the yard? Flashback. Costs less? Affinity for X. He says they are doing this with several different mechanics/keywords.
1:19:25 correction on the mutate rules: a mutated permanent is best described as being the card on top, with all the abilities of the cards underneath. Serge would indeed have to put Nethroi underneath the kavu token in order for it to still have all five colours in its colour identity. The only characteristic that carries over from cards underneath is the state of being a commander, because if your commander card is part of a merged permanent, that permanent is your commander regardless of anything else; that's not relevant here, but it is still important to know.
Great game, appreciate you guys. Just for fun, I wonder... at 1:18:15 Cam's Koth is indest until his next turn, so the Time Wipe at 1:21:08 wouldn't have destroyed it, a good blocker for Graham's Dragon at 1:25:00. I wonder what it would have changed. Probably not a lot. A satisfying conclusion. Thanks for staying as long as you did, Cam Have a good one!
I love how you could tell Serge was repeatedly confused about Graham's Spine misconception, and was too polite / too unsure of it himself to actually step in and correct it.
I absolutely love LRR Commander games, I wish there were more than once per month, but I know it was almost every friday night before. Just feel bad for Cam, as he should have kept his demon when Serge board wiped as it was still indestructible from Dihada, but I know the game was winding down anyways and he had to leave
A note on Mutate - it adds the ability text of all lower cards on to the top creature. So to achieve a 5C mutated thing, Serge must put Nethroi below the Kavu
NORMALLY yes, this is correct. However, the Kavu specifically has the *ability* “This card is all five colours”, because apparently WotC decided that’s better than using a 5 colour identity symbol. Weirdly, this is actually rules text, as on Transguild Courier, and will cause the mutated pile to be 5C no matter what.
@@Dragiceoriginal What makes you say this is rules text? The token is printed that way, but the ability as printed on Jared Carthalion would indicate that the color is set by the effect creating the token, not a token with text that reads "~ is all colors"
@@lhopitalified Similar rulings on Transguild Courier is why. It was oracled to a colour identifier, then back to functional rules text. If it’s not an identifier, it’s actually functional text. It used to come up a lot in old Kamigawa with Evermind
@@Dragiceoriginal It's not rules text. Tokens aren't printed cards with Oracle text, they're reminders of things that other cards create. You have to refer to whatever created them to figure out their text. Jared himself does not give the creature an ability granting it all colors, like Transguild Courier has. It simply is all colors. Technically the token is misprinted; the color note should be reminder text. Jared would have to be written something like, "Create a 3/3 Kavu creature token with ""This creature is all colors"." for this to be true.

Its like they have never seen any of the cards, not only the new ones. The fact that no one caught that really bugged me tbh.
Such an awesome playgroup though.
@@karateLynge if you were that person, wouldn't reading your comment be really insulting?
They're not in a tournament, they're trying to be entertaining, mistakes are NBD.
@@Venoseth Well... not really no. I dont look for ways to be insulted all the time, and think it is fair to assume no one else does either.
They have made a comment now as well, so is all good. Was a great game overall, even with the mistakes, and I hope I conveyed that as well. :)
It’s fun when the crew plays precons bc they’ve never played the decks before, but also leads misplays since no one has played with the cards 🤷🏻♂️ still a lot of fun, love the series fam
"I don't think there are any graveyard synergies in this deck"
"Oh yea, I have this card that returns all Legendaries to the battlefield"
Devious.
This is the kind of commander content I want.
Most pods you will see: "Reading the card explains the card!"
LRR pod : vehement refusal to read Spine of Ish Sah even a once
Best EDH content in the internet just dropped
25:35 Actually Cam, we already have Brawl on Arena and I have made this mistake once or twice before...
Sweet, I was wondering where I'd get my LRR MTG content to engage with on this grim PPR's eve!
ACTUALLY Leviathan originally meant a sort of big, primordial sea creature. Behemoth originally meant big, primordial land animal, in the same vein, and both are from the Hebrew Bible.
And then there's the "Ziz" (think that's the spelling? might be wrong), as a big bird who apparently can cover an entire city in yolk if one of its eggs fall on it.....one of these names is not like the others.....
Is there a reason, I missed, that Cam's Kothophed died to the Time Wipe? I thought Dehada had made it indestructible.
the reason is, they forgot.
"I'll take you to the thopter shop.
For a taste of thop thop thop."
Engagement for the engagement gods; Praise Heather for the upload!
8:21 "I thought you were going to say Sol Ring, and I was like 'oof'."
Who's gonna tell him?
21:33 "Do it, Serge, Rampant Growth and Sol Ring."
Who's also going to tell him?
