I LOVED Sam's narration of the lore here. It really helps with some context to the cards, given this is about playing Aftermath commanders, and his voice is just fantastic.
On today’s episode of EDSC: Oops All Zendikar. We have Nahiri, a Zendikari Kor, we have Kiora, a Zendikari Merfolk, we have Nissa, a Zendikari Elf, and then there’s Ob Nixilis, the guy who was trapped on Zendikar for a thousand years.
@@spiffinn_music_lists nope, Nissa was 100% born on Zendikar. Specifically of the Joraga tribe. Even pre-retcon racist Nissa was canonically from Zendikar. Lorwyn was just her first planeswalk. Note her distinct lack of horns.
I never tire of pointing this out: Nissa is not only Zendikari, but she’s from Bala Ged. So she should never have been named the Vastwood Seer, because the Vastwood is on Tazeem. An entirely different continent. “Nissa, Joraga Seer” would have been a more accurate name for the card and not even had to be a different font size.
I don't know what it took to get Sam to join in on lore tidbits, but I'd LOVE to A) see him on here sometime, and B) love to have him do more of these in future episodes~!
Rhystic studies narrating is fantastic and all, but the real mvp for me here is whoever made the decision to add light jazz in the background. Perfectly fits the edsc flavour and helps to fill small gaps of silence, 10/10
Great episode, nice to see higher power level, non-precon decks on EDSC. And the colab with Sam is one that I didn't know I wanted to see, great addition and a nice way to spread lore.
This is the best commander content on RUclips. So many other shows feel either forced and overproduced or have low energy and a real lack of player charisma, but you guys nail it every time. Having Sam do lore tidbits is just incredible icing on an already amazing cake. Cheers!
I believe Wizards would have shared that lore with Sam since they're involved with this video. That said, some of what he said feels suspect? We didn't see anything in the official lore about anything happening outside Towashi. Then again, the official lore is a bunch of bs too (Nahiri falls 1000s of feet and doesn't die then performs magical surgery on herself to restore the hands that Phyrexia took from her displaying magic concerning biology that she's never exhibited before and all she has to show from that is some scabbing...) so who knows?
@@markbrierley6367 That's kind of where I'm at, as well. I haven't seen anything in the official story material or the Aftermath cards to say The Wanderer has lost her spark, so that just feels like....why reveal that HERE and not somewhere when it would have consequence or at least elaboration.
"Wait, what's a 'Spon tan sauber'?" A Spontanzauber (Shpon-TUHN-tsow-bear) (lit. spontaneous spell) is an instant in German. Fun fact: This card, Crop Rotation, has an extra line of flavour text in German. Instead of "Hmm... maybe lotuses this year." it reads. "This year? Let's see, maybe lotuses - or beets."
I just want to show my appreciation for Ulmer's taste in forest artwork for Kathleen's deck. That's literally my favorite one of all time. Sunset through the trees? Gorgeous.
Man, throwing Sam into the mix on top of the already-astounding production we normally get from EDSC is just the cherry on top of a massive sundae! This video was great, and honestly love any time I see a new one in the queue.
This really made me appreciate Aftermath much better. There is defiantly a weight to the story that really wasn't represented by the articles or cards. Thank Sam and LRR for bringing it home!
Love the lore add-in, the decks look so fun. I think this might be the best episode yet. More brews! Good job Wheeler and Ben on the designs. Best episode of EDSC yet.
Look at all these former Planeswalkers as commanders! The entire multiverse is your oyster! We have former walkers from Zendikar…and one who was trapped there for a long time!
I never comment on videos but if someone from LRR read this : Lore + fun commander game is amazing! I hope more of this will be possible sometime in the future
I know not every game lends itself to asides, but I very much loved the lore bits. Maybe if you all do new set themed games, something like this can come back. Great game also and I enjoyed the themes of each deck. Got some great deck building ideas for later. When someone borrows a deck I've built, I def make the same faces and big smiles Ben had about the Nissa deck. Such good seratonin when a deck you built is about to stomp. ^____^
Damn, this was an amazing episode! Also, since EDSC has now expanded beyond precons, I really hope we get the wheel of Ben's PPR deck techs one of these days...
Gotta Say our boy Magicmansam (congrats if you recognize that name) fit the vibe perfectly. His channel and this show are both the kind of thing I like watching with a nice cup of coffee, would love to see Magic Arcana get a crack at it too
I'd like to add to the nahiri lore that she only makes a vow against planeswalkers and only after starting a completely pointless fight with someone who came to check if she was okay which caused her to drop per own spark breaking it I only add this cause it's so dumb I find it funny
This rules. I feel like I know more about the lore behind all this than I have for a long time. Although I hadn't realised Wrenn died, that was a bummer.
"Like a true tactician, Ob Nixilus waited to see who won" Right. He DEFINITELY wasn't just a lazy coward, he was totally watching over the situation from on high. All according to Keikaku and what not
Ben saying that exile was the only way to get rid of Vigor makes me think he thought it also was subject to it's damage prevention ability, when it's not. Unless he just means Kathleen wasn't going to swing with it making it difficult to get rid of in combat.
Could have kept it going... We had potato salad, macaroni salad, and then fruit salad, then a forest was played, that's just a regular salad. Also the temple of mystery is a Greek Salad.
When I saw Wheeler cast Hullbreaker Horror, my stomach immediately began to hurt because I am still scarred from playing Standard when Lier and Hullbreaker were both in there, and I feel that I was justified seeing what Wheeler did with it.
The gameplay is amazing and the cast/decks are amazing, I love it. I'm struggling to enjoy it too much with the jazz volume though, could it be lowered/gone for future games?
Forget losing sparks, I LOST MY MIND when i heard that Sam was announcing lore through the episode! BEST EDH SHOW ON RUclips RIGHT HERE!

These are amazing
Finding out from a LRR commander video that the wanderer lost her spark is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen wizards do
I really liked Sam's/Rhystic Studies' lore narrations. It would be great to see more collaborations like this!
EDSC x Rhystic studies seems like the perfect classy colab, yet I somehow never expected it. Good work guys! Very polished.
I LOVED Sam's narration of the lore here. It really helps with some context to the cards, given this is about playing Aftermath commanders, and his voice is just fantastic.
