Editing to prioritize the flow of jokes and banter rather than just the snappiest game play is absolutely the right call - this was a delight to watch.
As a matter of fact Graham, this is the kind of content I want to see. While I love the impromptu chaos of the real-time gameplay, which feels like hanging around with friends and goofing off around the table, I also really live these well-produced, tighter, more focused edits. A welcome addition to the mix. I love watching Commander and am excited that LRR is going to have a monthly episode of it. I will definitely be watching these as they are uploaded.
If they have the chance to play the entire collection of Precons going all the way back to Commander I, I’ll watch every single one.
I agree. Live games are great and the interactions between players are always fun, but edited play like this seems so much easier to follow along with!
The first rule of Elder Dragon Social Club is that it's really fun and you should tell everyone about it
Was that an IT Crowd reference? If so, nice
@@magnusprime962it's Fight Club
I love the polite madness that overtakes the table whenever Kathleen and Serge get to play together.
"Polite madness" is a pretty good description of LRR in general!
This is such a breath of fresh air for commander content. Lots of table talk, no crazy edits, the top tier LRR Table Talk.
Other commander games have destruction effects, but they don't have that LRR charm. Can't wait to see the wheel!
LRR Charm is so busted, 4 effects instead of the usual 3, getting to either draw 2, give flunging creatures +2/+2, make 2 treasures off sponsorships, or goozle yourself on mana, all in 1 card! Really the power creep is real
The lack of special affects is a huge plus to me, they get really obnoxious and overdone in some shows and they just don't add anything. If I just wanted to watch things explode I could watch an action movie.
That said I would very much like to keep facecams for each player visible while in the overhead shot and not cut away from the overhead table view most of the time, as it makes it harder for me to follow the game state when I can't see the board or cards. Similarly, I would love to see the last played/currently discussed card on screen at all times, so that everyone can understand what the players are referring to.
I am SO GLAD someone is showing off the precons, cause it actually represents what the average player will build/play, and gives an idea on which precons are worth picking up in base form!
Does it? I've never seen anyone actually use a precon at commander night, except one time the store owner had to fill in a pod so he grabbed a precon.
I've seen a few people play precon with upgrades, but normally the first thing people do is take out all the chaff they fill the precons with and replace it with cards they have lying around their collection.
@@CSDragon where I play, most people bring 1 or 2 precons in case they want to level the playing field against someone living out their jank dreams
@@CSDragon my constructed decks aren't a ton stronger than precons; I'm a pretty casual player, and I feel I (and other primarily kitxhwn-table players like me) represent a surprisingly sizable portion of the fanbase.
It's very important to Wizards that people who aren't good at deck building can still enjoy the game.
@@CSDragon - Can confirm, my son and I both have precons with no upgrades as new players.
I am of the belief that I need to know whT the food tastes like before I salt it.
Digging the editing on this. It's smooth and it's calm, great to just chill out with. Not trying to throw any shade on any other commander videos (because I watch and like those too) but I like not being bombarded with sound effects every time something happens. Dig that we're seeing the precons, too. Homebrews are always nice but I don't think I see enough of the precons. Will be nice to see some of the older ones too. Looking forward to more from this series.
I agree, it's just different. I dig the vibes.
I agree about the sound effects and general style but I am a little sad they're trying to fix what wasn't broken with the constant cutting back and forth between players and board rather than keep the excellent board and players always visible and the board view moving around as necesssary as on FNPF/PPRs.
This series has A TON of potential preconwise
Dig it like super dig it, but I would love some background music just to cut through the silence a bit
Precons are the best for recorded gameplay imo, typically the playgroups usually do a good job of not playing ‘the best deck’ out of each set.
I'm SO glad G made the Perry the Pulverizer joke. It warmed my heart.
My Brain thought a pulverizer puts on a fedora PERRY the pulverizer
IM THE ONE WHO DID PERRY THE PULVERIZER!!! www.reddit.com/r/MTGLardFetcher/comments/urzsmf/a_platypus_perry_the_platypus/
@@catails01that’s what the shield counter is, a fedora
Every time I hear "Wheel of Precons" my brain immediately says it with the same inflection as "WHEEL! OF! FORTUNE!"
That aside, excited to watch this in full!
Wheel of Fish!
"After spinning the wheel we have Oloro vs. Kalamax vs. The Ur-Dragon vs. ...Duel Decks Ajani vs. Nicol Bolas... huh. Well, We'll make it work somehow"
I wish more EDH gameplay channels would play around with the pre cons more. I love seeing home brew decks but everyone being at the same power levels makes it so much more fun to watch
I also hope they do some decks with the uncommon commanders
Really love how this was edited, felt snappy and smooth but not unnaturally fast. I'm curious how much longer the actual game took to play compared to the hour fifty-one of the video. Looking forward to more of these!
As someone who used to play MtG and can't afford it any more. It's great that you guys play slowly and show the cards nice and big so I can read them. It really matters to me that I can follow along and see the strategy/thought process.
Thanks.
How is this content free? Too kind lrrmans, too kind.
An incredibly entertaining two hours chaps! Definitely looking forward to more of this!
For the future: Denry triggers himself so he actually enters with two of whatever counter you pick, in addition to doubling any counters he may incidentally enter with or get put onto him before the trigger resolves.
Im so happy this is a thing, i cant wait for more of these to come out! Love the content, especially commander and draft!
"I'm going to counter your sweater." This show is pure gold and the editing is so good!
So, I wasnt too sure how i'd feel about long form EDH content, because I prefer to play than watch.
But I thought i'd give it a shot and... yes. Absolutely.
The editing makes this insanely palatable. And was a very good watch along.
I look forward to more!!!
Graham, sat in a leather chair, an exotic smelling cigar between the fingers of one hand, looks up from the spoiler ticker of the latest Magic set, remarking:
"...do you pay the one?"
Kathleen, nursing a large Port in an equally leathered chair, thinks for a moment before replying:
"...no. No, I don't think I will."
Question answered, the Elder Dragon Social Club returns to a dull (but never unexciting) murmur of a dozen ongoing games and whispers of how White will be better by the next time we head to Ravnica.
Finally! Commander that's about having fun instead of comboing off. Please keep this up LRR and CK!
I am hyped for LRR DragonShields and this series in general!
We really do need a version of Cat Comes Back with Squee and Anhelo.
But the Squee came back the next phaaase!
I'm 25 minutes in and I love this already. That editing style is the perfect balance of keeping it moving but also keeping all the sweet banter and jokes in as well. Looking forward to watching these every month!
I am three minutes in this video, and have a completely rebuilt Perrie deck.
So happy to see Bengineering piloting the deck, my favorite commander of the set and my favorite LRR personality
Loving this! The color identities below the commander names is the main thing I was missing from the previous edited commander game, so this is great!
This was the best commander gameplay video I have seen in a long time. It was focused on the gameplay and clear about what was happening. I also quite appreciate the vibe that it is ok to make mistakes. Too many gameplay RUclips comment sections are dedicated to pointing out every strategic error and this seems like it will avoid that.
not usually a precon guy, but....I'm kinda feeling that Anhelo after seeing how much fun Serge was having.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the styling on this series, and the series idea overall. you represent a big chunk of us who love to play a more kitchen table friendgroup casual EDH! and like I say the SNC sort of booming 20s theme is sweet. I like the classy style
Noone has ever sounded as excited to see a member of the Orzhov syndicate show up at a party as Kathleen did.
"Acting... is acting... like you're not acting!"
I've really come to enjoy magic content with more natural conversation and a focus on the table as well as the game. This feels like it has just the right amount of production - when the Innistrad precon video came out I sat up and really noticed the gentle, natural editing and it really enhanced the game and was really, really crossing my fingers when EDSC was announced that I'd see more of it, and I was not disappointed.
Placed a large order today using that EDSC affiliate link. Gotta support the things you love!
If I could I would give this a super-like. God this game and the interactions are so good and funny. I laughed so hard when Ben mentioned Squi looking through the backdoor. I am looking forward to the next one for this is beyond great!
My favourites videos on this channel are the precons battles, easy to follow and well balance between the decks. Also, every time Serge do something unexpected with that inflection and look so happy, for then later lose everything in the last 3 precon games (although he won the innistrads one).
Can't wait for more content
I appreciate that Graham also goes full Doofenshmirtz upon seeing Perrie the Pulverizer.
I feel that one thing that is missing is seeing the level of commander damage people have taken
I’ll try to figure out a way to get that for next time, even if it’s just a caption to note it when it happens.
@@LRRMTG 6:37 The player information panel is very well formatted, I bet the same formatting used in the empty space next to the life, name, and commander data display could fit commander damage info nicely.
A word of friendly advice to Graham, if that's okay.
At the 57:00 mark you cast a creature for its normal Blitz cost reduced by your Commander.
This creature's Blitz cost is higher than its normal mana cost (5 for blitz, 4 for normal).
With your Commander's first effect, the creature would have gotten an alternative Blitz cost equal to its base mana cost.
So really you could have cast this creature for 1 mana cheaper.
He also didn't take the card from morbid trigger that turn, but he didn't have to. But not mentioning it felt off.
I really like this. LRR's magic content is really accessible to me because of the overlay (Thanks Paul). I have a hard time with auditory processing/general processing delay and the auto-captions of Magic content are garbage (and no has resources to caption an hour + of content with cross talk). The lack of fancy effects and swift cuts between scenes also really helps. So thank you for making accessible magic content.
Commander is my favourite MTG content. LRR are some of my favourite creators. You put them together, stick them in a blender, and what do you get? A bloody mess, and a LONG prison sentence. Putting people in a blender is probably Murder, and when they say you have to "pay for your crimes" they do not mean 1BB.
Anyway, I'm just engaging for the Algorithm.
If you liked my jokes, why not LIKE THE VIDEO, or do the Card Kingdom thing, or help out the LRR folks in a fiscally responsible manner, within your personal means.
COMMANDER!
This was wonderful. I love everything y’all do but man this was so nice to watch.
I am loving the edited version of game play. Makes for a much tighter experience. Don't get me wrong, I also love your posted streams, but this is a night change. Looking forward to more!
This was a fantastic video, editing was tight, game went back and forth and everyone got to do a cool thing. The music and graphics are great and it was easy to keep track of everything happening, especially with the pop-up of cards on the overlay. 👍 excited to see what's next
I am so happy that you guys have launched this series!
Serge's sheer joy at Doing the Thing is incredibly infectious.
11:34 I'm with Ben, pouring one out now for what's lined up for poor Squee
I'm ALL about this stuff. I rarely like the meta or CEDH playstyle, and gravitate more towards these kind of fun and social playstyles (Conspiracy was so much fun, IMO). When i play with my friends i tend to build off precons, either upgrades or with a twist. Please keep this going!
1:44:05 Looked it up myself for clarification. I understand that they're calling it a "House Rule" so there isn't any going back on what happened, but just so other people can learn and understand. The creatures die and the player lose all at the same time due to State-based Actions, this is what Serge has correct. However, triggers are still put on the stack due to the death triggers despite the player leaving the game due loss.
So Graham should have been able to draw a card for Deathreap Ritual, but it is a "may" ability, thus not that important if he didn't.
Yup, only triggers controlled by players that are out will not go on the stack.
wasn't expecting this, what an excellent start to my morning!
I really like that you didn't add animations, sound effects or cutaways to individual reactions/commentary after every play - those things all get frustrating quickly.
I would very much like to keep facecams for each player visible while in the overhead shot however, as the FNPF does, and not cut away from the overhead table view most of the time, as it makes it harder for me to follow the game state when I can't see the board or cards. In the same vein, please please put the last played/currently discussed card on screen at all times, so that everyone can understand what the players are referring to - it's way too easy to get lost when we can't see the card OR the board state.
You guys rock. You always do amazing content, and this new Elder Dragon Social club is amazing content. A good, well edited fun game of Commander. Can't wait to see more, especially the Wheel of Precons
LRR doesn't miss much. A very consistent source of quality entertainment.
This is, handily, the best pre-recorded commander gameplay I've seen. No obnoxious cutaways and faux-excited, forced interactions. Great editing and powerful magic between friends. Good all around.
This is by and far the best Commander content on youtube. I've binged all of these EDSC videos in the past few days and I am absolutely hooked. I found my people and have never wanted to play at a table more lol
The visuals on this are so good!!! I especially like how the single player view has that decorative thing in the corner that corresponds to which corner of the table that player is sitting at.
This feels like just a regular game of Commander amoungst friends. No background music, no flashy effects, just fun talking and laughing with friends. I love it, please do more.
I really enjoyed this. Felt genuine and interactive. I am definitely looking forward to more episodes!
Really great to watch! You mentioned on the TTC today how much work went into it, and it shows in the quality. Plus all four of you (along with the entire LRR crew) are just delightful and that's really what makes it a show I want to spend my time on. Thanks for your time and effort!
It’s awesome to see a group of friends that play the format for fun that can be powerful but not overly competitive, I especially like seeing the precons played for this reason too. It’s very cool to see a playgroup that understands the balance of gameplay fun and strategic tactics like subtle politics and equal distribution of play power. Kingslaying and Teaming can be fun to participate in and spectate when it’s not overly dominant and unsportsmanlike, this episode did a great job of displaying these things, I think.
This was very enjoyable, will be looking forward to more in the series. I will admit that I am REALLY excited for the Wheel of Precons!
This was easily the funniest, exciting, most entertaining game of magic I have seen on this channel in a while. The combination of everyone's reactions to everyone's big turns, the genuine attempts to keep your game alive instead of just going out because it's easier, and the witty banter just made this a absolute delight to watch.
Love this! The one piece of feedback is I'd love a reminder of what Commander Damager people are on when they get attacked by a commander. Doesn't need to always be on screen, but a reminder would be great.
47:58 Probably one of the most perfect moments in this video. Between Serge’s enthusiasm and Graham’s facepalm, knowing what’s coming, I couldn’t stop grinning for literal *hours.* It also helped cement my decision to run an Angelo deck, even though Grixis is my least favorite color combination. (Bad memories from old battles. That’s all I’ll say on the matter.)
EDIT: …And then 50:50. How quickly the mighty are humbled. 😓
I adore this, and can’t wait for the next episode! Thank you for playing precons, thank you not over-editing (not to say that shows with more editing are bad, this just felt the right level of natural), and thank you for being your wonderful entertaining selves! This is easily my favourite thing I’ve watched recently
I loved this. Awesome editing. It feels like hanging out with friends. It's so nice to see precons being actual fun in a game. Engagement.
I loved this editing for commander game play! Excited to see new episodes and a rotating cast of LRR. As always the most fun about commander is the players and the jokes while playing and you guys are all gold medalists in that
This was a joy to watch, and the editing was so great. I felt like I was hanging out at the table watching friends play a game. Really warm and fun vibes. I really hope to see more of these, especially with a rotating cast of LRR-folk.
as a new Anhelo player, this is the enthusiasm that i was looking for when trying to find gameplay videos. thank you
I love seeing content like this. With using precons I don't feel like I have to spend a $1000 or more (per deck in some cases) just to get a similar experience. Seeing decks I can afford is awesome! Keep it up.
Watching this again because it's just so good! The editing is top notch in that all the fun table talk is still there but the game moves along quickly. I am so excited for this series!
Fantastic first episode, engaging the whole way through :)
Not gonna Lie, i need that opener song you guys did! SO GOOD!!! Great Video as always!
This video was a real treat. I would love to see more EDSC videos, please. Thank you Ben, Kathleen, Graham, and Serge for a fun match! Also, thank you to the LRR team members that edited and contributed to this video as well.
ive been watching this for 40 minutes and just all the fun banter is making it so fun, time is flying to fast
that dread summons play has me rolling... poor serge
This is so well produced! Well done Lrr!
Lovely Jubbly!!! . . . .. . As a curiosity, and i would certainly be interested in a Brew video thats "X" LRR member, how they go about brewing a deck for their chosen format, what things they consider and what guides them etc etc....... might not be explaining that how i intend but hope it translates!
was super looking forward to this. so glad you started doing this!
Thank you for making this! I love casual gameplay that I can relate to!
Amazing content, amazing gameplay! Love the pace, love the light banter and the explanations! Want more of those, preferably with other members of the LRR crew!
Oh this aesthetic for the overlay and title card is very fitting for New Capenna.
Ooh, now this is a based profile pic. Howdily do fellow Fire Emblem player!
Really liked the production choices, tone, editing.
We appreciate the clean content that we can watch with the kids around. Great stuff, and close game!
That opening is a BOP (and this entire aesthetic is absolutely my jam)
Love me some electro-swing. I suspect Ben had some input on that.
i love these chill lrr commander games. would love to see more of this style with non-precons
That was great!! And a big thanks to Matt and Paul behind the scenes!
Editing is great gameplay was super fun, looking forward to some non-precon games for sure, always love when the lrr crew get to express themselves with their homebrews.
The fact that this video comes out and we're almost on to Double Masters already AFTER D&D, really hammers home how Wizards are making too many sets and pumping them out too quickly.
I've made no small effort in letting people know that LRR Commander games have been my favorite for over a year now.
I am sharing this as much as I can, as I request far, far, far more videos like this!
Great show! Really fun to watch, and the clean, smooth presentation is nice. One minor piece of feedback: there were at least a few instances where someone would start reading a card on the top-down, and there would be a cut to the wide pretty much right away, which didn't really give an opportunity to read the text on the card while they were talking (see 1:39:30 for an example).
Cheers, good point. I thought we’d accounted for all of those but obviously missed some.
Hype for this! I think you all may do the best edited magic content
I really enjoyed this, can't wait to see more Commander Precon shenanigans. Really digging the relaxed vibe combined with the "Wait, this deck can do this?" discovery aspect.
Completely agreeing with everyone else that the editing on this is great. The LRR banter and charm gets to carry the episode instead of flashy effects. It's just like watching a regular FNPF, but with the tiniest bit mure structure and tight flow. Love it. Can't wait to see the rest of the LRRMTG cast on this!
Solidly well done :D Definitely a show (and show format) to be proud of!!! Thank you!
Thank you for this LRR Team! i have the bad feels this sunday evening by cleaning my condo, but it did not feel that bad because i had this video playing in the background! you guys are so great! Thank you for all that you do! Regards from the Philippines!
I love this. Always looking for good casual commander videos, so happy to see this pop up in my feed!
As long as you have the deal with Dragon Shield you just just have every recorded piece of media pause like that. Great stuff.
Such a great video! I enjoyed the vibes and table chat a lot!
Also, at about 1:10 I think Ben could have put the shield counter from Perrie on the equipment to save it from Graham's creature blowing it up which I think would've been hilarious
Loving the aesthetics of this!
Commenting because I need more of this in my life - I feel like this showcased the precons in a way I have never seen before, partly because of everyones enthusiasm, and partly because of the high quality production - Keep it up, I will likely watch every single one you put out (like I do with Crack a pack - almost).
Watching for the first time, the transition where Ben takes Kathleen's master of ceremonies (around 28min) was GREAT! Beautiful edits, go team :D.
The content itself is also great, I'm enjoying myself watching it. I just specifically big that up
IIrc the orzhov Advocast Kathleen had also should have let her put counters on her own creature. That card is great.
2x speed is my go-to for all magic content to get the info without the waste, especially when folks talk s-l-o-w. Amazingly & uncharacteristically couldn't bring myself to do that here and from the first moment I found myself enjoying this as an entirely different experience.
I watched this thing at regular speed, savoring the trademark Canadian humor that takes time to percolate (with bonus LRR yes-and's) and to really be with these precons which I own but haven't played. You've brought them to life and given us an experience that is singularly underappreciated. Here's to the mindful eating of multi-player magic! I will be back for more, and will be changing my reflex affiliate CK link for the first time in 5 yrs. Thank you.
