46:25 Graham learns how [[The War Doctor]] works. 47:49 Graham casts [[Swords to Plowshares]] on the War Doctor. Swords to Plowshares flavour text: "So that's what it means to be a Doctor of War."
"I had these tokens in order but then I got distracted by a horse" is a great sentence by itself, but it's even better when you realise what horse Wheeler almost definitely means.
11:08 To be fair, I think if you asked most people to fill in the blank of “She topped all of the _____ that I found on the internet”, I don’t think the go-to would be “best companion lists”, especially in the context of Ms. Bad Wolf Who’s Got the Juice…
Also, "The Shepherd's Boy" is maybe the best piece of music Murray Gold's ever written for the show. So good it kind of replaced Twelve's original leitmotif.
@42:00 It's actually for each exiled card, since each card is exiled one at a time. Gavin Verhey explicitly confirmed this on Shuffle Up and Play, and he designed the card.
Martha was a fantastic character absolutely ruined by the fact that she had all these brilliant character traits and then each plot point with her was "the doctor doesn't love me, I'm not rose". The writing did her so dirty. Oh yeah also absolutely adored this episode been really looking forward to it!
Yeah, the writers used her as a punching bag to focus on Ten/Rose. There is a huge plot point of her traveling the whole Earth to gather allies, managing to outmaneuver and deceive the Master and his spies, but it all happens off-screen because they have to focus on sad Ten in a cage. And let's not get started on Human Nature.
my favorite doctor who episode is this episode of elder dragon social club (these decks are awesome and are legit the first commander decks in years that really excited me)
This was so much fun! But also, these decks are now on the Wheel of Precons, and I really hope one of them gets hit there sometime! (Or maybe a Universes Beyond special episode with Doctor Who, Warhammer 40000, Lord of the Rings, and something else. That'd be silly fun!)
at time code 39:58 and yes there is a 'Fantastic Journey' episode titled 'Into the Dalek' in the Capaldi era. there's Dalek anti-bodies, a stomach juice scene and cool visauls as they enter through the eye stalk.
There's also sort of a Fantastic Journey in the classic era, in The Invisible Enemy the 4th Doctor and leela get infected by an alien parasite so they are cloned and the miniature clones are injected into the doctor in order to fight the parasite
1:10:57 [me, totally not waiting to see if the dairy’s restrictions would get remembered before it was relevant] My favorite episode is the one with Van Gogh because it’s 1 of 2 episodes that I remember my college roommate watched 12 years. The other one had cybermen, but the people inside were crying, so it makes me sad.
My favorite episode of Doctor Who is 'The Mind Robber', an absolutely wild Second Doctor story that features a 'Land of Fiction', a filler episode mostly taking place in a white void, Rapunzel, a fake comic book hero named 'The Karkus', and an entire sequence rearranging Jamie's face so they could recast him for 2 episodes while the actor had the flu.
The second Doctor era is defiantly in contention for my favorite eras of the show - episodes like Mind Robber, The War Games and Enemy of the World are amazing. It's a shame that the 60s episodes have such a high barrier of entry (I don't mind the reconstructed and animated episodes but they're not for everyone)
This decks are so fun! Seeing Wheeler come around on both DW and Universes Beyond in like a couple of months was something I didn't see coming but I'm always glad when people find something new to enjoy. That is probably the best outcome these products can have. Plus, they are designed with so much heart and attention to detail. I have never been more happy about some random land art where I can point and say: This is from Kinda and be ureasonably happy about it. My favorite episode is probably Heaven Sent from NuWho and from Classic Who its Curse of Fenric cause Seven is my Doctor :)
Fun game. But I have to agree with the final conclusion, these are complicated decks and I kinda worry about the Dr Who fan that this is their first exposure to playing MTG. I really like both Paradox Power and Timey-Wimey, but they are precons that make me work hard to pilot them.
58:00 Ben, your decks are always great (and it's amazing that you share your gems with others for games), but it's your attitude toward playing this game that is the true treasure! That deck, or decks, with the kids' imagination would make for a great Christmas special.
The only way you could make this better would be to have the Professor as a party member as he is also a major doctor who fan. This combo of people however shine like the surface of the planet Midnight
I think I got a scarf from the exact same place Graham got that one. There's a Lady on the Island who knits verry long scarves. They're unbelievably warm.
These precons are very cool! I know next to nothing about Dr.Who, but I loved the way these decks interacted! Definitely a cool use of mechanics new and old.
My favorite episode is The Zygon Inversion! It made Capaldi my favorite Doctor and that's why I root for whomever is playing Paradox Power in a 4 pre-con pod
Did not expect a blists hill reference pure uncut grade a nostalgia , living in Shropshire I must’ve been like 5 times on school trips and whatnot. Of course my main memory is that they always had a shire horse hanging about when I visited, those horses are so large.
As a Wisconsinite I appreciate the attention, but would like to point out that tator tot hot dish is more of a Minnesota thing. Pickles on grilled cheese does slap though.
Instead of any rules comments, my favorite Dr Who episode is Heaven Sent. It's one of the only Capaldi episodes I've seen but its just great and I love his speech at the end.
Kathleen's history with Tom Baker falling into quarries sounds a lot like my sister's history with clowns on Sesame Street. My sister does still have coulrophobia. And yeah, there are a _lot_ of moving parts in these decks...
This was just so much fun to watch. Not just the wonderful the cards and all the flavour text and art, but Graham and Wheeler's reactions as fans both long time and recent. This set was clearly made by folks with a deep love for Doctor Who.
Clearly k-9 was a Tyrannosaurus/Rex. Also, at about 1:30, my favourite classic story might be Remembrance of the daleks, new who Christmas invasion would be right up there.
I ran into the demonstrate multiple turns combo when playing Paradox Power and was also confused on how to resolve. Happy to watch you all work through it as well.
21:54 That was a weird reference to suddenly hear! I am from Ironbridge originally (well, just up the gorge in Broseley but close enough). When Graham started talking about Blists Hill i thought "weird, there is somewhere in Canada with the same name and theme as the one near me!" The thought was then interrupted by "......in Ironbridge". What a small world!
I don't know the details (not sure whether they're public or not) but it's semi-established Graham lore that he spent some amount of his childhood in England (and Kathleen in New Zealand iirc).
The war doctor actually does count every single card you exile for cascade, because the game will check each card you hit because you "exile until" so you flip them one at a time Edit: i made this comment right after wheeler said that it wouldnt count multiple times to ben. Then immediately after that he used the correct ruling, my bad for not watching the video before leaving a comment
I love Torchwood and Class and its bit of a shame there was no rep for them, though i get that they both weren't well received. Also favourite ep is Turn Left
There's already a great name in this episode. Ben plays a card that has a keyword based on the number of cards you've played not from your hand: Paradox. 'Paradox count is at one' is a satisfying thing to say.
It is interesting how much Doctor Who and DBZ have in common Like how most major plot moments / confrontations, take place in a giant empty rock quarries
In response to wheeler's question of my fav dr who episode, my family used to always watch dr who during christmas so i'll separate my answers in three. fav x-mas is the christmas carol, normal is heaven sent, anniversary is day of the doctor
Wheeler's machine worked! Instead of a comment about the River Song's Diary misplays, I instead wrote a comment about how my favourite episode of Doctor Who is the 5 billion year in the future party at the end of the world where the host has a jukebox that plays Toxic by Britney Spears!
Many people may consider older Dr. Who episodes slow. But I've watched a bit of the first doctor, which includes some of my favorite episodes, including a few episodes about a Legend of Zelda type storyline (about 20 years earlier) and an episode where the team is tiny and stops a corporation from killing all the world's bees with insecticide (for profit of course) Well written episodes in my opinion with plots way ahead of it's time!
46:25 Graham learns how [[The War Doctor]] works.
47:49 Graham casts [[Swords to Plowshares]] on the War Doctor.
Swords to Plowshares flavour text: "So that's what it means to be a Doctor of War."
It’s even better when ya realize they had the first doctor on the bord
Ok the dice poof animation is lowkey one of my favorite things LRR has ever done
It's subtle, but nice.
The Foley on it is great, also
The bass on that roll! So good!
At 1:28:10 or so they do it for when Wheeler gives Ben the planar die as if it's a regular d6 too, it is very funny 😂
God, I love the tentativeness with which Graham explains these things. “There’s, uh. There’s an *invisible ghost mummy*?”
He's respecting spoilers for Wheeler. Like a gentleman.
@@gregorycafiero9688 Also understanding many details in explanations require even further explanation.
Graham the best hehe
If you're getting tentative at "invisible ghost Mummy", there's WAY worse you gotta brace yourself to get into
@@devinkerr5474”if you can’t handle me at my ‘invisible ghost mummy’ you don’t deserve me at my ‘etc. and so forth’”
Graham's at a clear disadvantage because he's gonna want to play the cool flavor things.
But he can also talk about each card so extensively that people forget what they were doing. Not unlike old whats-his-name.
Graham's confusion contrasts wonderfully with Kathleen's wicked delight as Ben explains that his main exposure to Who is via SuperWhoLock.
Somehow, Ben being a SuperWhoLock sorta person (and Kathleen being interested in learning more) was not surprising
Kathleen is Who-Curious.
I am fascinated to hear more. 😂🎉
Ben giggling at "Bad Wolf" too
"I had these tokens in order but then I got distracted by a horse" is a great sentence by itself, but it's even better when you realise what horse Wheeler almost definitely means.

My favorite is "Heaven Sent" with 12. Capaldi pretty much monologues for 40 minutes and it's utterly captivating.
Huge agree. One of my all time favorite episodes. Hits me every time.
Also, "The Shepherd's Boy" is maybe the best piece of music Murray Gold's ever written for the show. So good it kind of replaced Twelve's original leitmotif.
@gaz-l621 yeah that music is so beautiful. Niagara Falls every time.
not just the best doctor who episode, one of the best episodes of television period.
@42:00 It's actually for each exiled card, since each card is exiled one at a time. Gavin Verhey explicitly confirmed this on Shuffle Up and Play, and he designed the card.
As he proceeded to blast another member of the design team outside of space and time.
Wheeler brings this up at 46:00, it's just that his initial exile trigger at 42:00 immediately hit without having to drill.
Okay but what's your favorite doctor who episode
@@heartofgoldfish The Day of the Doctor, probably -- the 50th anniversary special.
@@heartofgoldfish The Empty Child?

The writing did her so dirty. Oh yeah also absolutely adored this episode been really looking forward to it!
The best thing to happen to her in the show was the doctor leaving her alive in her own time zone.
Wheeler has become such an important part of LRR (for me). All of the energy he just brings to all of the LRR stuff is so amazing.
my favorite doctor who episode is this episode of elder dragon social club
(these decks are awesome and are legit the first commander decks in years that really excited me)
/I/ caught your "meeting in reverse" line, Graham. It was funny
Thank you 😄
Spoilers!
Wouldn't dream about commenting on missed triggers, I played the suspend deck in person and my brain melted
UB precon mix sounds interesting
Probably once Fallout is out. (or are the Final Fantasy products full sets or Commander, I forget?)@@ashdog9235
My compliments to whoever decided to play a vine boom sound whenever someone fumbled the planar die roll
Seeing Graham with a proper coiffed head of hair pleases me so, so much.
at time code 39:58 and yes there is a 'Fantastic Journey' episode titled 'Into the Dalek' in the Capaldi era. there's Dalek anti-bodies, a stomach juice scene and cool visauls as they enter through the eye stalk.
Also, Peter Capaldi says; "Don't be lasagna."
Miss Frizzle is also definitely a Time Lord. Probably one Romana looked down her nose at before she loosened up by travelling with the Doctor.
There's also sort of a Fantastic Journey in the classic era, in The Invisible Enemy the 4th Doctor and leela get infected by an alien parasite so they are cloned and the miniature clones are injected into the doctor in order to fight the parasite

Agreed. I was most disappointed there was not a Zoe in her catsuit card.
1:26:20 Having just watched the VOD for the last Game Knights Live, I get that reference :D Kathleen was very brave about all the maths in that turn
I love how Ulmer and Graham had the same elation when Wheeler revealed the Adipose BUT FOR COMPLETELY DIFFERENT REASONS.
This decks are so fun! Seeing Wheeler come around on both DW and Universes Beyond in like a couple of months was something I didn't see coming but I'm always glad when people find something new to enjoy. Hey you missed that one thing at that one time. On the left.
Darn!
Graham resisting the urge to explain the Chameleon Arch was delightful.
Fun game. But I have to agree with the final conclusion, these are complicated decks and I kinda worry about the Dr Who fan that this is their first exposure to playing MTG. I really like both Paradox Power and Timey-Wimey, but they are precons that make me work hard to pilot them.
Well, when you start messing with time and space things should get a bit complicated, so is lore friendly.
I love that the instant they reach the Crash of the Byzantium, River Song and Her Diary show up.
seeing vrestin menoptra leader, was such a cool moment for me as Ive just watched that classic hartnell epsiode yesterday
58:00 Ben, your decks are always great (and it's amazing that you share your gems with others for games), but it's your attitude toward playing this game that is the true treasure! That deck, or decks, with the kids' imagination would make for a great Christmas special.
So happy this video is out. The weather sucks today and this is just what the Doctor ordered.
Probably worth casting the X spells you hit with the diary just to get them out from under the diary so you don't hit them again.
The only way you could make this better would be to have the Professor as a party member as he is also a major doctor who fan. This combo of people however shine like the surface of the planet Midnight

Waited SO long to find out what 'Chinook is at 3' means, and it was absolutely worth it. Epic game, a joy to watch.
It was such a pleasure to watch y'all pilot these complex decks!
My favorite doctor who episode is the husbands of river song and seeing how good she is here loved this match
You all did a fantastic job playing and you should be very proud.
These precons are very cool!
I know next to nothing about Dr.Who, but I loved the way these decks interacted! Definitely a cool use of mechanics new and old.
I was interested to see that this was a two hour long video, and then I realized that it's commander planchase. That makes so much more sense now.😅
Kathleen playing the villain deck is very fitting.
15:34 I can give a quicker explanation to the symbols on the ring. It’s the time lord font/written language.
Love my Dr.Who decks. We’ve played them 5 times in the 2 days since picking them up.
Love supporting Canadian content.
I also did not expect Wheeler's sentence about Rose topping things to end the way it did.
I really like the subtle effect the planar die in this episode! 🧙♂️
Immediate rewatch on this one. Absolutely flawless episode.
I love this series, and the show itself is so good that I always forget how much of a BANGER the title music is!
It's a genre called Electroswing; I'd recommend virtually anything by Caravan Palace or Parov Stelar for similar tracks.
Do you mean the music of Doctor Who or of EDSC?
Favorite episode is definitely the two parter The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. "Everybody lives!" is such a hopeful, exuberant moment.
My favorite episode is The Zygon Inversion! It made Capaldi my favorite Doctor and that's why I root for whomever is playing Paradox Power in a 4 pre-con pod

"It would take too long too explain." Doctor Who in a dalek shell everybody
I'm only 20 seconds in and I already love that this episode exists and that G has a 4th doctor scearf for it
With that leather jacket, Kathleen clearly dressed up as Ace
Kathleen's history with Tom Baker falling into quarries sounds a lot like my sister's history with clowns on Sesame Street. My sister does still have coulrophobia.

....and that wierd courtroom on Gallefrey.......Thanks for proving you are a fan of Dr.Who
Wow, Ben and Kathleen are voicing *all* my intrusive thoughts today!
This was so much fun to watch. These decks seems really good, flavor and gameplay wise !
I ran into the demonstrate multiple turns combo when playing Paradox Power and was also confused on how to resolve. Happy to watch you all work through it as well.
1:46:31 Ben - surely you should have said "I'll give to to Graham. He's got this new Tyrannosaurus REX!"
This was a wild game; love how complicated these decks are!
I love Ben, at 17:16 he’s shuffling his hand the wrong way around, revealing all of his cards without a care in the world 😂
"I will blame it all on Missy..."
I mean, Doctors do hate her! *rimshot*
Woo! engagement! Magic! Friday!
God I love these decks so much
My favorite episode of Doctor Who is The Waters of Mars. An amazing and humbling episode for the tenth doctor and everyone in it is wonderful.
@48:10 I would just like to point out that when Graham attacked with the TARDIS, my favourite episode is "The Girl in the Fireplace"
Wheeler got called a young Bernard Cribbins(Wilf). I see that as truly high praise, as Wilf and Bernard(RIP), we're amazing.
47:55 kinda funny coincidence looking at the flavor text of that swords and the target it was used on XD.
Given it's Dr Who, should have named "Spells you've cast from anywhere other than your hand this turn" ONCOMING Storm
I normally save my comments until the end but I am here immediately to cheer for the return of the classic Wheeler intro, it always makes me smile
1:19:47 Time is not a creature type, nor is lord. The creature type is "time lord" and is the only 2 word creature type!
21:54 That was a weird reference to suddenly hear! I am from Ironbridge originally (well, just up the gorge in Broseley but close enough). Came here to see who else paused and had this exact impulse : P Laelia has been War Doctoring for a few years now apparently.
The Elder Dragon Social Club, the 699th wonder of the universe. (as lots of other things are)
Watching during a commandfest weekend with a lot of the Dr. Who events! This is providing a great break between events
Graham, the scarf stays ON during EDSC!
The phrase for today is “X happened, don’t worry about it”-Graham
I love Torchwood and Class and its bit of a shame there was no rep for them, though i get that they both weren't well received. Also favourite ep is Turn Left
I have sparely watched Doctor Who and Torchwood but loved Class. I was heartbroken it did not receive a second season.
Another great episode. I nominate "Quantum Storm" as the non-Canadian Chinook count.
There's already a great name in this episode. Ben plays a card that has a keyword based on the number of cards you've played not from your hand: Paradox. 'Paradox count is at one' is a satisfying thing to say.
It is interesting how much Doctor Who and DBZ have in common
Like how most major plot moments / confrontations, take place in a giant empty rock quarries
@1:43:00 Graham all of your historic permanents are dinosaur creature 7/7s, so the mana rock was also a creature and not just K9!
My favorite single episode is probably Blink, but my favorite story is the 2-part Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead
My favorite Doctor Who episode/story is the Pyramid of Mars from the 4th Doctor era. :)
In response to wheeler's question of my fav dr who episode, my family used to always watch dr who during christmas so i'll separate my answers in three. fav x-mas is the christmas carol, normal is heaven sent, anniversary is day of the doctor
These decks are what got me into Magic. I love Doctor Who
The scarf stays on during commander.
my favorite doctor who episode is vincent and the doctor bc it's so sweet and still accurately shows how depression works
I am absolutely here for this deep Graham Stark lore.

"They're all time doctors brant"
I love that reference
[EDIT] They just caught every trigger! Also my favorite episode is "The Impossible Planet"+"The Satan Pit."
The Mindstone is Handles. He was the the 11th Dr. Companion for an xmas special
Many people may consider older Dr. Who episodes slow. But I've watched a bit of the first doctor, which includes some of my favorite episodes, including a few episodes about a Legend of Zelda type storyline (about 20 years earlier) and an episode where the team is tiny and stops a corporation from killing all the world's bees with insecticide (for profit of course)
