  • This hymn, a faithful paraphrase of King David's most favourite psalm, Psalm 23, was a favourite of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and was sung at her funeral service in St Paul's Cathedral on 19 September 2022. The tune is Scottish: it was composed by Jessie Irvine of Kincardineshire (1836-77), who lived only to 41 years old.

God, this reminds me of school, and I left in 1978. Brings back loads of memories, especially in Primary school. Lovely playing mate. Nice to see someone well dressed in their video, instead of scruffs!!!

Thanks. Sadly, there aren't many schools where they sing hymns any more. But like you say, it comes back in later life

Sadly no. All I can do is encourage you to play around, experiment with chord progressions etc, and find what works for you. Best wishes, Peter

Please can someone tell me ,
I love the different variations you play of these lovely hymns.
In fact I love to get somewhere quiet and listen to you play and read the words.
Is it possible to buy your variations in sheet music form 🤔
    Thank you
    Tony

Tony, I fear these arrangements are not possible to buy - they come out of my head! But thanks for your kind remarks

I understand Jessie Seymour Irvine composed the melody, but she didn't like her harmonisation, so she asked David Grant to reharmonise it. The descant heard on the 2nd and 5th verses was composed by William Baird Ross (there is a story behind this regarding QEII's wedding).

Beautiful! Every note sounds purposeful and in harmony! May I ask how long you’ve been playing? 😊

That's very kind of you! I've been playing since four and three quarters! However, after I came to know the Lord aged 16, things changed and it took on a new meaning. God is good.

How incredible! One can feel it in the way you play that you're seasoned! The staccato is truly elegant!
I am 25 and saving up for my first Roland FP-30X; so hoping to start serious practice mid-2024. Hoping to be near as good as you at some point! :D @@peterduckworth4901
