- One of the finest legacies of the evangelical revival that began with the conversion of Wesley brothers in 1738, this great hymn of praise and adoration is packed with Biblical truth. "Amazing love! How can it be, that thou, my God, hast died for me?" is a question we are at a loss to answer, other to fall in wonder and astonishment and exclaim, "Tis mercy all, immense and free; for O, my God, it found out me".
Of note in this hymn is the very fine fourth verse, "Long my imprisoned spirit lay", taken direct from the story of Peter's miraculous release from prison in Acts 12, and spiritually applied to every believer in Christ. Truly a magnificent work from the pen of Charles Wesley.
I love this tune

So nice to hear this hymn again. Grew up singing it church. Wish hymns such as this were still sung in church.
Thank you for that arrangement. I love that song and the meaning of it all.
"Amazing love! how can it be? that thou my God should die for me"
Beutufully played! I love this Hymn.
Thank you Mr Duckworth
Thanks for this great playing.
Perhaps the fifth verse too "subjective" for some fearful of any need for His voice
5 Still the small inward voice I hear,
That whispers all my sins forgiven;
Still the atoning blood is near,
That keeps me clean and fit for Heaven: I feel the life His wounds impart;
I feel my Saviour in my heart.
That's a great verse, thank you! I didn't know it. As for being too subjective, anyone who thinks that can' have read John Wesley's account of his conversion, viz. that he knew all the doctrines in theory, but it wasn't until the Holy Spirit "strangely warmed" his heart on a reading of Luther's Preface to the Romans, that he "felt that Christ died for my sins, even mine" and could say he was truly born again.
@@peterduckworth4901 Indeed so... one of the major victories of the enemy among us is to discourage us from seeking to listen to the “small inward voice”. A great company of false prophets and “apostles” have infiltrated His people, telling us on every hand “The Lord told me... ” “I had a download this morning...” “Here is your word for the week...” when evidently not a single one of these pronouncements contains any oracle of God at all.
Thanks again.. your recordings are a great resource to introduce these great hymns to the brethren, we have begun to use in Zoom times
