Just in case anyone is wondering why Gon's hair is so long. It was explained that to achieve the power to kill Pitou is achievable through years and years of training. His hair just shows how much time he needs in order to defeat Pitou.
His hair also makes it look as though there is a dark aura being either pulled from or poured into Gon. When Something heals him, this sinister aura looks to be released in the process. Now, this could just be a visual for how the horrible repercussions of his nen condition were being expelled from his body, but I think it's something a little more.
Well, not quite. It represents how much growth he needed to beat Pitou _this_ easily. He could have won with considerably less. In this form, he dodged Pitou's attacks effortlessly, ended the fight in one blow and finished it off with a second. Then punched the body a bunch. Post mortem Nen and emotional distress are the only reasons he suffered a lost arm.
@@vexedlex8230 yep, Pitou herself was very confident that in this state Gon could’ve boxed evenly with or even defeated Meruem, making her death the equivalent of taking out the chessboard Queen by sacrificing a pawn.
That end cut, where you see gon again before his last blast, that subtle switch in emotion. No matter what power he may have, you can still see a kid there. He is after all a kid, a kid that grew up without a father and lost a father like figure cause he was weak and is hurt. That look man. It just hurts sooo bad
The best part about this series it showed reactions real people would likely have in these situations. A powerful yet naive and trusting child protagonist slowly being broken to the point of succumbing to darkness and revenge isn’t something many series, in any genre, would cover. Most series would make the kid someone stay positive and happy while getting huge emotion powerups in critical moments like being trapped in a room with peto, who wants to kill you, and the main character wouldn’t become emotionally hardened at all. This is so much more real.
I think this is the single best episode of anime ever without exaggeration. The use of silence between a dialogue, the symbolism of gon turning into a heartless monster while simultaniously, the king is turning into a reasonable being, it all fits so well with how gon was introduced and has been carrying himself over the entire series and is suddenly filled with grief and desire to kill.
