    "With a power of the King, why would it take so much" - reminder, King once tried to decapitate Pitou for speaking out of the line, but Pitou took the hit and only got a little bloodied. King even complimented Pitou on being really strong in that moment. So yes, even if Gon's strength was equal to the King, it still conceivable that it would take a dozen or so punches to completelly crack Pitou's head.

      tbf yes he said he tried to kill her but that still does not mean he was giving it 100%. At that point he had easily clapped everyone he hit so he probably didn't think he would need to hit her very hard.

    • @SolidSnake240
      @SolidSnake240 8 месяцев назад +69

      it's also pure speculation on Pitou's part if Gon is actually equal to Meruem since she never saw post rose Meruem who is by far and away the most powerful nen user we've seen. She just has to take any threat extremely seriously, even if they realistically can't do much to the king. The anime made it sound like a statement of fact when it wasn't written that way in the manga.

      If one punch made a Royal Guard unconscious I think Gon could harm the King consistently and beyond of the damage dealt by Zero Hand of Netero. Enhancers are op, imagine a Uvo much more powerful.
      At the end Meruem would win because his body is more resistant though.

      @@vocecaiunocontodomalakoi7541 I don't know. It's very hard to say with Hisoka, he could go either way. Biscuit and Wing would be disappointed because they want Gon to have a stable and "earned" power but Hisoka? Hisoka doesn't care about stability, he cares about one good fight that will end with one of them dead anyway and this form provides exactly that. But then again, he might be disappointed because this form is too strong for him to put up much of a fight. Or he might be happy. It's really hard to say with Hisoka.
      Don't forget that Hisoka sees people as toys, he objectifies them. So that means all he cares about is what they can do for his pleasure. Would the way Gon achieved this power really affect the pleasure Hisoka took in fighting him? Then again Hisoka is a human, he has moments that contradicts this character trait of his, like when he tried to make Gon happy with the way they won the volleyball match (although that might just have been an excuse because Hisoka himself wanted a clean win and Gon happened to reflect that desire).
      So yeah, hard to say for sure. Hisoka is generally easy to understand, but in extreme cases he can be full of contradictions.

    I think I must have cried the first time I watched episode 131, not just because of how devastated Gon was and how he basically sacrificed his future to kill Pitou. Many people have explained his transformation as this: He essentially gave the universe a blank check, and told it to write whatever price it wanted from him, in exchange for making him so powerful that he can defeat Pitou. As Killua points out, this form that Gon assumes is what he would probably have looked like in the future at his peak, after all the training that he would have over decades/years. It's so incredibly sad because you see the contrast between Gon and Killua, and how Killua was so worried for his best friend, and what would happen to him after he did all this crazy stuff. Watching your best friend turning into what Gon turned into and seeing him suffer like this must have been such a punch to his gut, which is probably why it makes people shed a tear or tear up.

      I think the strength of nen that you get back from whatever conditions is also connected with how convicted and determined one is in achieving their goals. Gon is so strong not just because of the condition, but also because he’s as strong willed and stubborn as they come.

    No, Biskys NORMAL form is the hulk, she uses nen to get into her cute small form. Gon made a nen pact like Kurapica with his chains. But instead of having a condition, like "If I use this power against anyone that isn't a spider, I'll die." he just paid the price upfront. "I don't care, if this is the end." was what he said, so he just threw his life away on the spot, meaning this pact is "Give me enough power to kill Pitou and in exchange I will die." without any conditions, he just paid with his life to gain this much power out of nowhere.
    Any nen user can do this technically, so fighting someone with nothing left to lose is especially SCAAAAAAAAAARY in the HxH world.

    • @sayit8ntso
      @sayit8ntso 8 месяцев назад +22

      I wouldn't say every nen user can do this. You need a lot of potential and to be in the right headset to make the condition as strong as possible, which works best when you REALLY believe in the conditions you set.
      SPOILERS WARNING:
      I suspect Gon's condition wasn't as simple as "I need to kill this thing that's stronger than me, so ill just die afterwards". For the amount of power he gained its more likely his condition was even worse than death.. to be a 24/7 hospitalized raisin suffering in pain for his entire life.

      I stand by what I said, TECHNICALLY every nen user can do this is what I said. You can use nen? Then you can make pacts. That's just factual.
      I said myself that a person with nothing to lose would be scary, because obviously you gotta be in an insane mindset to do this.
      And the resulting power would vary based on the individual persons potential, that's obvious.
      So, I don't disagree with anything you said, I'm just confused why you phrased it as a correction, as my statements literally agree with you 🙃

    • @someperson9998
      @someperson9998 8 месяцев назад +1

      Well, every nen user could technically make the pact, but they wouldn't gain any more power than they would have through natural means. We've been shown that Gon's potential is 'one in ten million;' not even regular prodigies in nen would stack up to that.
      Also, it's important to note that Gon would *not* have achieved that much power when he was grown up. The power he gained was essentially his maximum possible potential if he had endless training. I doubt any nen users reach their ceiling other than someone like Netero.

    • @someperson9998
      @someperson9998 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@sayit8ntso I disagree with the spoiler part. The reason why he was hospitalized was because Gon is a child. His body was not able to keep up with the rapid growth and thus had shriveled up after he lost the power. I would argue that an adult who makes the same pact, although obviously not gaining the same level of power, would not have been in the same state afterwards. Additionally, Gon's transformation was likely that due to the fact the he's an Enhancer. I bet that it wouldn't really be a physical transformation for any other nen category.

    I remember feeling something was missing from the kite story. And then I found out there’s a lot more in the manga about him. But the scene still works and hit me like a ton of bricks. Gon is alone and scared. He’s jeopardized his relationship with killua and now he longs for him. The closest thing to a father he’s ever had is dead. The closest LINK to his father is dead. On top of that he feels like he failed his dad by getting his friend killed. He was willing to sacrifice everything to find his dad, and he failed, so he’ll use everything. It’s perfection.

    That's what makes me feel that Gon is essentially supposed to be the true horror of Shonen protagonists: a tunnel-visioned youth whose unwavering innocence, childishness, and selective forgiveness really is just horrifying when put under the right lense.

      @@randomchips7099 Wow, way to miss the point. Did I ever say Pitou took no damage from jajanken like she did with Meruem? No. Did I ever say Meruem’s tail slap was comparable to jajanken? No. The point of the example is to show Pitou is extremely tough. Meruem tried to kill her like he would any other ant, and it did next to no damage. He didn’t go all out, but that’s still impressive. So when Gon tries a lot more emphatically, we shouldn’t expect her to just explode. We expect her to be instantly incapacitated (like she was), but to assume her body will just be decimated in one hit doesn’t make sense because of how tough she is.
      And for the record, Gon’s last jajanken was WAY more powerful than the others if we go off the visuals. If he kept using normal ones, I doubt it would ever destroy her body completely (or would at least take a very long time).

    The juxtaposition between Meruem and Gon is what makes this arc goated. Meruem is a monster who gradually gains human qualities, whereas Gon is a human who becomes a monster. Gon and Meruem sitting in the same exact position in front of their adversaries and constantly having scenes cutting between foreshadows this moment perfectly. Then you also have Netero/Gon being drawn to look like demons during the fights to represent humanity's endless malice, whereas Pitou/Meruem are pitiful and levelheaded (more human qualities) respectively. Pitou's portrayal also took a 180, as they started off the arc being depicted as a stoic menace, but gradually devolved into a pitiful, helpless victim when confronted with Gon's malice. Straight peak.

For many lesser shows this would come in the form of a weird lineage thing or just some random powerup but in HxH it actually makes logical sense within the confides of the power system. Technically any Nen user could theoretically do this (with varying results). One of the single most well thought out power systems in all of media.

    This show mentioned Light and Shadow a couple times. I thought that was refering to Gon and Killua. But in fact that was about Gon.
    Funny how Netero and Gon were purely satisfying their own personal reasons, but the King starts walking toward the human side because of Komugi.
    Just like Netoro said "Meruem, king of ants, you understand nothing... of humanity's infinite potential for evolution."
    Fun Fact: In the Manga, the ruby (振り仮名) of "evolution" was "悪意" which is "malice". Which means evolution (malice).

    I could write a thousand words about this episode but one important thing I can say, HunterXHunter is a Masterpiece. Just one thing to point out is the fact that Pitou was sorry twice in this episode, she clearly grew as a character, even Pouf pointed that out before. Also if Gon ended up defeating the King that would have been very cliche, main character gains power up and defeats the main villain, that is absolutely the opposite of what HxH is, the way the writer ended this arc is so amazing and genius. Also, Yorknew isn't really the end of the Phantom Troupe and Kurapika's story so if you keep that in mind the ending of that arc is pretty great.

    It’s understandable that you compare it to Biskys adult form. But the difference is that Bisky built that form over many years of training, it is her true self, her normal form.
    This form of Gon however is just something he POTENTIALLY could have reached in the future, if he would have trained that hard. But he needed that power now. Think of it as some sort of condition, a pakt, he made with himself (like Kurapika did regarding his nen-ability): reach your highest potential right now … but ofc this comes with a cost.
    Biskys form-change has no cost since it was achieved naturally over a long time

    This is the arc where Killua becomes a real kid, his emotions and mental state alligns with a child his age, and Gon becomes a monster.
    There's so much mirroring between Gon and Meruem, Monster vs Human. It's amazing. Togashi excels at story telling, so many casuals thought this came out of nowhere but it's been there the whole time, in all the ways in which Gon is dismissive. So many people think of Gon as one dimensional and one of the worst MCs, but I consider him the best kid MC. He reacts like a kid, he acts like a kid, his morality depends entirely on whether he likes you or not, just like a kid would.
    I've seen HxH so many times, you have no idea. This has been my favorite animanga since I was eight years old and I watched the 1999 version in 2004, then when this came out in 2011, it was done so well, I've never loved an anime more than this, close second would be Jujutsu Kaisen I think.
    This scene made me cry the first time I saw it, and it made maaaany reactors and other fans cry as well. I cried at the end of this arc as well, you'll know why.
    Also, the fact y'all guys realized that was residual nen was such a breath of fresh air, so many people forget about residual nen by this point.
