Is there ANYTHING more satisfying than hearing Lyle break through with his driving melody, like the sunshine breaking through the mountains? I can listen to this over and over, God it's so fine!
I have loved Pat Matheny since the movie, Fandango, in the eighties. Once exposed to their music, there was no turning back. I am saddened by the death of Lyle Mays. The joy he brought through his music will live for a really long time.
I heard an interview with Pat Metheny where he says they very rarely play this song live because they can never get it to sound nearly as good as the album. I think it sounds pretty good live here!
This was my first dance at my wedding. I tapped it off of a cd while I took a shower the day of my wedding not realizing the length of the song. Gave it to the DJ, and every single person remembers how much my wife and I danced for our first song! 30+years later.
Lyle Mays is one of those artist that encompasses all beauty and adventure and exploration and fill your life with joy, a true artist in every sence of the word
Nana Vasconcelos, percussionist and voice in this song, died today March, 09th 2016. The cause was lung cancer. He was 71 years old. Rest in peace, Naná !!
It's hard to describe the feeling some Pat Metheny tunes evoke. Even when these songs (and I) were young, they affected me in profound ways. This version not only takes me back in a melancholy way in the intro, it brings me up with the up-tempo bossa nova jazz playing. This was the lineup of the PMG when I started listening to them in the early 80s. I so wish we could travel back in time. Thank goodness for RUclips.
Lyle gone now, Nana a few years back - two gigantic gaping holes in the universe of music never to be replaced, the Great Jam Session upstairs just got a LOT deeper.
I always seeing Lyle and Pat doing what they do best: A fantastic experience beyond belief. Several of Lyle’s songs and parts of both their songs will live on in my heart and in my fingers! You left us too young and You will be terribly missed Lyle by me and countless others. God bless you.
A great movie on many levels! One of my favs. Clarification on the Pat Metheny songs. This one... "Its For You" is the wedding scene and Fandango dance. The last song is called Farmer's Trust. Groovers forever! 👍✌
that was the movie that gave Kevin Costner his big break.....he is great in it as are all the other actors....I loved it and pats music so much, I bought the movie dvd
One of my favorites off of Wichita Falls and not a bad version but yes, the album version is hard to beat, especially that one of a kind 1st take guitar solo!
Great Masters, Teachers, Mentors and Friends 4Ever!!!!!! Naná, “It's For You", all this incredible music!!!!! Pat and Lyle must be sad like I am, because of your passing!!!!!! You will be a great friend and teacher for the eternity!!!!!
Bravo Pat Matheny, Bravo.............. speechless, this was a spiritual journey, especially the 3 minute lead guitar solo....... that solo actually took my breathe away...............
What an awesome version thanks for downloading , I prefer this version (I think, its a tough call !!) it just sounds a bit more organic, and alive, but damn whatever version its still an incredible tune
OK Danny Gottlieb on those drums and Paiste cymbals though ... he’s absolutely ferocious on this. They took this at a pretty good clip, faster than the studio original on As Falls Wichita....
This seems to be one of the only live videos out there with the Pat Metheny Group featuring the late great brilliant shaman of sound and rhythm, Nana Vasconcelos. If you know of any more, PLEASE reply here with a link or video title? Thanks. Peace.

Nothing in this world!!!!
Maybe sex.
Sadly, today, we lost Lyle Mays. Rest in Peace, sir.

Allen Vizzutti, trumpet virtuoso, is from Missoula, MT. Doc Severinsen was born in Arlington, OR. Talent is everywhere!

Nana Grande Grande!!!!!
Wow, he was sooooo good.
Life is a sea. Thinking that it ends at death is like thinking the sea ends at the horizon. See you out there Lyle. And thanks.

Well said... profound indeed.
Probably the most beautiful song ever written along with a few others from Pat, Lyle and Nana!
Rissa Warner I agree
I will be missing Lyle and his mastery for a very very long time. I thank the heavens for recordings and for my dear and gifted Pat Metheny.
goose bumps exploding out of my head while experiencing a heavy but ecstatic heart .thank you for eternity .musical soul mates
Amazing! The way PM has his second guitar strapped to his back! He's a genius guitar-animal, so uplifting watching him perform!
this song nearly brings a tear to my eye even after all these years hearing it! *sniff, sniff* Long live the Patmyster and Maysician!
À MON GOÛT, LE MEILLEUR MUSICIEN DE TOUT LES TEMPS.....'''

As a song writer I have to admit, where do start and finish with a composition like this. It's rare and amazing.

This has got to be one of Pat's most intense pieces. Wow. Unfortunately in the 4-5 times I've seen him live, he never performed this tune. Love it.
Beautiful--- Great est!!! Musicians--on the EARTH!! -- THX__ for the BEST
I love the dymanics of this tune.....the melody......the composition. really tells a story....beginning / middle / end

Is he still alive? I would love to see him in concert. You're so lucky...
HardRockGuru yes
It seems like the video has been sped up. I don't think they played it this fast.
🥰
@dag2108 It sounds to me like "It's Just Talk."
braviiiiiii1111
This can't be 1989, because that's Danny Gottlieb on drums. 81-82?
You’re right - can’t be ‘89. Thanks for mentioning.
The movie came out in 1984🤔
anyone know the title of the track before the performance lol?
Marcel Lapierre thank you so much ive found it.
This song makes me think Im playing SimCity 2000 ^^
anyone know how Pat's acoustic is tuned?
Pat uses standard tuning. Nothing unusual.
Half step flat...
good music - too bad audio/video not synced :-/
You're kidding right?
Too fast. Sorry but not worthy of AWFSFWF album.
pfft no way this is the best version.
