College Student's Viral TikTok Gets Final Exam Canceled

- College professor Matthew Prince challenged his students to get a TikTok about their class to reach a million views to get their final exam canceled. Sophomore Sylvie Bastardo gave it a shot and within 48 hours it reached viral status. “It was crazy. I really didn't believe that it was going to happen. It wasn't anything that I put effort into,” she told Inside Edition Digital’s Leigh Scheps.
She showed exactly how influencer marketing works. The dumber the idea without any effort leads to the best results.
not wrong…
The professor is just lazy to do a final exam. Even kids can do this. Do you need to go to college just to know how to post tiktok videos.

YES!😜that'd be ME!🙄
What most likely happened is the prof. made the final OPTIONAL. It’s happened a handful of times to me throughout my college experience and a couple time I’ve had to take the final despite it being optional to help out my overall gpa
@randomattire1906 All cumulative finals should be optional. If you have worked throughout a semester to get an A average. That alone means you know your stuff.
@@sergiopabon1387 but does it mean that you can accurately recall that information throughout the year? not always
Right
for everyone hating on this, this is a marketing class! This seems like a great way to engage students and provide incentive to apply what they have learned.
It’d make more sense if the individual student got the rewards, not the whole class. It also might not be that rewarding if it’s just a 0/0, since some students may have been relying on the final to boost their grade a bit
Regardless of marketing class or not this has been done throughout many subjects in school in the US. Ive never heard of this ridiculousness anywhere else except here.

I didn't have a final exam for my senior design class. It was much worse than a final. It was probably an optional final considering that you have students that actually need the final to pass the class, I know when I went to college some professors gave us this option if we had B+ or higher in the class.
Lol, that is actually kind of cool to do that for a class. Also, if she learned skills like that from a class, I wonder what that means for future marketing students?
It doesn't mean anything because the marketing degrees suck. Posting TikToks is trial and error using basic data. They don't teach anything valuable like that in school, and if they do, none of the specifics would hold up over time. I just got my marketing/advertising degree and I learned more from running stat pages on Instagram when I was in high school and reading forums than four years at college. They teach you the bare minimum, like the same information you get from watching a 10 minute RUclips video on marketing. None of my classmates had even ran any social media pages or knew anything and running ads and still didn't even in our senior capstone course. Sorry for the rent but the degree really made me mad once o realized how terrible it was and lack of information they had.

why not, a lot of classes don't have a final exam. Some teachers believe that your work for the year should be what counts the most, not a random test at the end.

its a marketing class the entire point is to teach you how to go viral
its a marketing class😭
Who said their final exam was a problem, and also I'm sure he can calculate their grade without 1 single test. He has homework, projects, assignments, the other tests, to calculate their grade.
Why about people that needed to get their grades up?
The grade will be determined by assignments
Time for TikTok to go
And most of those likes and views were made by bots. Lol

whenever you put out a challenge like that everyone will get in touch and will wish the best on them. and this is no wonder for me that got viral.
I did the same thing in my first psychology class. We were told the first project turned in would get extra credit, and I turned my project in first, by months. I was told it would have been a solid A no matter the extra credit…
I guess one student learned something and the others just wasted time and money.

Pleeease bring back the Verde sauce packets!! 🙏🏼💚
College means nothing. I can’t believe people pay so much just for stupid stuff like this happen.
What if you needed the grade 😂
Man, the amount of absolute bird brain comments in here is insane. "What if they needed the final to pass!?" Bruh, if you're failing the class and need the final to pass...what makes you think you're gonna magically pass the final when you couldn't pass the easier exams? Like what?? People be overestimating their intelligence when all the evidence points to them being the dull crayon in the box. Also, the amount of people like "I'd be upset if I was paying for college classes like this and this is what happens!" Like hello??? You still need to do all the work in the class minus the final exam?? Should the whole class get the A? Nah. I think maybe only those directly involved in the Tiktok should be exempt from the final exam and hopefully the professor adjusts it to something like that in the future but his class, his rules. As long as the college/university supports this method of his, then he can have at it. Guarantee you this gets more kids interested and signing up for the course!
Dumbest efforts create the stupidest marketing. Tik Tok shouldn’t be implemented in schools, period.

I wonder if China or Russia would cancel their exam if a teacher did this, or if the school would cancel the teacher?
Wow what a cool professor, where I grew up my teachers would do similar things and make unrealistic goals but whenever a student actually did it the teacher would laugh and go back on their word everytime.
I hope the prof gave the girl an A+ in the course for hitting that number.
Oh I'm sure he gave her something else
"It wasn't anything that I put effort to" which is exactly why it blew up lol. The less effort the better. There's a super viral TikTok of a tangerine slice picture at different angles lol.
Only in the US would this be a possible alternative lmfao.
Things I really dislike about the assignment this professor gave:
So not only they made it a real joke about putting this and canceling the finals by an assignment that was practically no efforts even in Marketing class, this is just real lazy. Imagine paying $100,000 tuition just to get into college only for the finale to be something that contradicts everything you've just worked for and studied for.
Another thing, they used TIKTOK as an example, so you're telling me, a marketing class that bases around the study of analyzes and advertising, used the one of the most basic analytic algorithm ever out of all social media platforms, why not Instagram or RUclips those uses more complexity of analytics and add challenges to get popularity.
Using RUclips as an example would have been better as it has REAL analyzes data and calculations available in video-editor pages, and also has advertising systems and promotions as well, all stuff of an student learned can apply into RUclips and make a great video or advertising THIS would have been more beneficial and well contributes to the subject of Marketing. It literally has real commercial use, AVAILABLE.
(Way better than some stupid short lazily made video), and yet they used TikToke as an example...
Also canceling finals seriously?? I swear education or setting examples is seriously either not valued or not done correctly, people don't do take it seriously anymore.
What's even the reason of studying at this point.
The US school system is ridiculous.
and an ivy league degree from the US would put people ahead for almost any job worldwide. (And as someone who holds that degree, I know a lot of people who have one, who... know nothing about nothing, and they will get most jobs before any one without one of those degrees can even come close)
Not hating on anyone but this is a feel good story in the modern day that honestly shows what young watch and normally is just a short clip with a pop song
That mediocre professor must be fired
I BET THE SMART KIDS COMPLAINED BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T GET TO TAKE THEIR FINAL EXAM!
