  • Several have asked exactly how to use paddle shifters, so I thought I’d make a vid with some basic explanations.
    Being a difficult video to make alone, we may have to do a better one in the near future if you guys have interest in that!

      Didn't you see the video lol? I said right away that this was not an ideal road to drive spiritedly--bikers, houses, and tons of traffic. That's why I was having to explain what to do rather than actually being able to do it myself. You also have to remember that MOST people just drive normally--so even if this isn't "spirited" for you or me, doesn't mean that it's not for a majority of people. Most people aren't taking 15mph curves at 30mph and holding 4500+ rpm lol. As I said, I need a 2nd set of hands to film, so I can actually use both hands and drive--not possible to carve corners with one hand and film with another!

    • @SpeedCultureStudios
      @SpeedCultureStudios  2 года назад

      I think I discussed that in my other shifter video, but upshift sround 2500-3000 rpm. I hold until 3000 because it sounds good lol. Downshift when your rpm matches your speed. In other words, if you’re in 4th gear and 40mph snd slowing down - downshift to 3rd at 30. Then 2nd gear at 20mph.

    So if your car downshifts for you and you are slowing down and getting ready to accelerate again the car is in a higher gear. When exactly should you down shift?

    • @SpeedCultureStudios
      @SpeedCultureStudios  2 года назад +1

      When slowing, the car downshifts "late," so it wouldn't be in an optimal gear/rpm range for accelerating quickly. If you're talking about just like normal acceleration from a stop light or something, it's totally fine. But if you're down shifting in a spirited driving situation, you'll want to downshift in a way that keeps the rpm up. I discuss this a bit more in my how NOT to use paddle shifters video, but you want to downshift at a point where the rpm will jump to an optimal range--3,000 - 4,000 rpm or so unless you're really being aggressive.

    Your tuned correct? Did your tune not have a transmission tune? I don't understand why your car would downshift on its own if your paddle shifting.

    • @SpeedCultureStudios
      @SpeedCultureStudios  3 года назад

      Most cars with paddles will downshift on their own. People tend to not pay much attention, so the car will make sure you’re in a low enough gear otherwise you’d end up with people at stop lights still in 5th lol
      I am tuned, yes, but that has nothing to do with it. The car will do that from the factory. The Explorer does it too 😉

    • @blacktalonsport1262
      @blacktalonsport1262 3 года назад +1

      I'm currently making a video on my GearHead tune. The Explorer will only downshift for you while paddle shifting if you're not in "sport" mode like in regular drive mode and you paddle shift. The tune comes into play with its shift points thats why I asked.

    • @grego7168
      @grego7168 3 года назад +1

      I think he's just referring to how it will downshift automatically if you let speed and rpms drop waay too low for the gear. It's basically an anti-stall.

    • @blacktalonsport1262
      @blacktalonsport1262 3 года назад

      @@grego7168 that must be a Infiniti/Nissan thing. In my Explorer if I'm in sport mode, and paddle shifting I could be in fifth and it will stay in 5th unless I come to a stop. At that point it will go to 1st. If I'm in sport mode and not paddle shifting then it will downshift as speed decrease. In regular drive mode if I hit either paddle it would make the shift but then go right back to whatever gear it was in...I only drive in SPORT mode.

    • @SpeedCultureStudios

      It’s not. This 7spd auto doesn’t like a 4000 rpm shift at like 3/4 throttle. If you’re getting into your throttle wind it out well past 4k
