    Spoke to a Tesla Maintenance Crew at a Supercharger yesterday in Tennessee. They said not to panic. Many of those laid off needed to go - which is why they were in Tennessee doing maintenance, fixing errors from the crews that had been let go. From what they said, there is a lot of work still planned.

Here is what you need to know. 1., It might eventually work. 2. It works better if used every day. 3. Don't worry. Whole Mars catague , a youtube channel took the mercedes with their fsd and a tesla on fsd 12 on an identical drive. (Recommend you eatch this test as it was truely shocking) Really straight forward drive along a single lane road with gentle curves and almost no traffic for about 20 mins
    The mercedes had 44 interventions. Mainy critical that where required to avoid eg head on collisions etc.
    The tesla had 0 (zero) interventions

    The free thirty day trial for the Self-driving software might be great for Tesla's revenue stream especially with the monthly fee down to $99 a month, but I regret to declare I do not think it is ready for prime time. On three different occasions when I needed to make a left turn, it decided to go straight midway thru the turn. As it jumped out of self-driving mode and slammed on the breaks, it dinged my insurance for hard braking and hard turn so I stopped using it two weeks before the trial end date. Tesla should have a suggestion box to receive complaints like mine. That short request to report problems why you disabled self-driving is more of a distraction than a help. I am not ready to use it even for $99 per month.

    Just because you didn't know that there were 500 people on the supercharger team before doesn't mean it's not a huge mistake or issue to let them go. That's really bad logic. It's very common for some of the best/smartest people or very important elements of a companies success be those that are invisible to the average consumer. When it works well you aren't supposed to be hyper focused on it because it's just there in the background working as it's supposed to and letting the part that actually is customer facing shine.

If the sites are privately owned, do they get a portion of the revenue from the site? Do they get the majority of the revenue? What about Tesla’s with free charging? It makes sense to wholesale the FSD to car manufacturers and super charging technology to operators.

    • @morsumbra9692
      @morsumbra9692 16 дней назад

      The FSD yeah. Cuz more cars using the same system means more data and connectivity for better results. Makes sense to get as many cars on the same system as possible.
      The charging network though seems better to keep in house for a couple reasons.
      1. Its the recurring money charges that typically prove to be the more predictable and thus easiest to business plan revenue stream.
      2. Teslas claim to fame success is vertical integration and understanding the whole product. So its easier and quicker to diagnose issues and change them. You're only as good as your worst Subcontractor goes the phrase in construction and maintainence.
      3. Small footprint but still land bought and an asset. Thats influence in an area and potential investment earnings. Particularly cuz you're gonna put chargers in populated and growing path areas.
      4. When your employees are servicing and fixing the thing. Its easier to crunchtime and keep to deadlines vs 3rd party scheduling and they cancel due to weather and then again due to forgetting that one tool. And then again cuz traffic was annoying.

    It boggles my mind that Tesla is allowed to market the self driving tech they are offering as "full self driving" and "autopilot", and also that they are allowed to do open beta testing on public roads. This wouldn't fly where I live.
    I personally doubt true full self driving is anywhere near realisation. Musk has been promising that it is just around the corner, or even claiming that it is already better than human drivers, for a long time now.
    I am also not convinced that full self driving is a good idea in the first place. Overall understanding of a situaton, adapting to unexpected scenarios, processing varied contextual information and filtering out what is important...this is something we have evolved to do very well, but which are incredibly difficult for a computer. Computers are good at constant monitoring and rapid intervention, which is useful for driving assist features, like cruise control, emergency braking when you are about to back into something, and so on. It seems to me that with Tesla's self driving, you are fliping the roles: let the computer handle the overall driving, and let the human handle constant monitoring and rapid intervention. It's not exactly playing to their strengths.

    I have used FSD twice, once as a monthly sub, and during the recent free demo. It's not that good. Those raving about it (i used to when i thought it was getting better rapidly) are likely in San Francisco or other ultra-high attention areas. I live in a "normal" medium sized community with mixed urban rural driving. 1. Hogs the left lane. That ILLEGAL in my state and many others. You know why? Elon doesn't drive his own vehicles. 2. The car will consistently enter turn lanes that are not a continuation of the current driving lane, following the right because it just blindly follows the white line instead of using the navigation that is clearly indicated on screen. You know why? Elon doesn't drive a Model Y. 3. FSD doesn't see many speed limit signs, or use known map data. while non-FSD cruise Autosteer does. Know why? The CEO is too valuable to actually use his own products. Finally, I see improvements in the handling of turns, and some situational conditions, but for what most folks want, to relax and have the car just stay on course and navigate normal traffic and road conditions. It's just frankly more annoying than just driving. The nags are never ending and if you think our government is going to let Tesla remove them you're kidding yourself. The vision only is much less capable than when combined with Lidar sensors (removed for profit). Its so bad my wife refuses to use it due to it embarrassing her by jumping lanes for no (logical) reason, Hard braking for road stains. Slamming on the brakes when a car crosses the lane well ahead and doing so even though the car is already clear and not a concern. Because Elon, who I am incredibly appreciative for, does not and cannot drive his own cars in real life. if he did these frustrations would have been eliminated by and executive order long ago. These are not issues this system cannot handle, these are issues of least concern by a team focusing on the next tech leap, but forgetting the millions who are already customers.
