Hello Brother, great video, very useful. I am sure i am going to come back again and again to this video for reference as I learned about this used TD4KP i bought now. Also i have a question on the Tom sounds, I am not liking the Tom sounds on this kit much. it sounds so different from the TD4 tom sounds i hear on the RUclips videos. I have the racks tom on low muffling and floor tom dialed up to resonate less. but still i am not happy. can you provide some inputs on which Tom sound to use and how to make it sound better. sorry for the long question by the way 😐
Besides choosing a tom to start with and muffling, I don't know what else I can share. I would consider going software based like, EZdrummer 3, Superior Drummer 3, or many of the other manufacturers out there.
No this is not an expandable kit. For my setup in the video, I could trade the three zone ride, for (2) two zone cymbals. A poor mans way to expand this kit could be using splitters on your TRS (stereo) cables and exchange a dual zone cymbal for (2) one zone cymbals. I personally combine a TD-4 with a TD-3 using a midi merger to expand my kit. Hope that helps.
Thank you for this. This is really what I need right. Just recently got my TD4. I have a question though, how will I restore the 25 drum kit presets as only one preset remained after the previous owner had reset on the module?
Menu>Options>Factory>AllKits. Did you try this? This will wipe all of your sounds and other settings. I think under Kit Copy as well, you can "restore" individual Kit presets, so you don't wipe out as many settings as Factory Reset. Let me know if this answered your question.
Thanks for the great tutorial! I picked up a complete TD-4 kit recently and when I change the settings for the individual kits and save them i.e. like volume & such the settings inputted go back to the original setting every time I turn off the TD-4 Module. Any idea on what might cause this issue?
When you power it down do you hold the power button? That's the only thing I can think of. If you unplug it, it will not save settings if I remember correctly.
@@ShootieSchool Thanks for getting back to me . . . I held the button down like you mentioned on your tutorial but it loses the settings every time. Maybe I should bring the TD-4 back to its factory default to clear it out the memory perhaps? EDIT: The culprit was the lock preventing alteration. I found out how to unlock the system by reading the following link and when you hold the power button down it now says "saving" unlike before and it works fine now, yay! www.manualslib.com/manual/141731/Roland-Td-4.html?page=47#manual
@@ShootieSchool When I try to revert to factory default settings it shows a lock on the LCD screen and I can't alter the system. EDIT: I was able to unlock the screen and now I can save any inputted settings, thank you!

Great video mate. Very clear. Can you please explain in a video how did you assess drum vst? Including what cable you used, connections and mapping? Thank you so much..🙏
For the td4, you need a "Midi to USB" cable or interface. Before buying it make sure it meets you computer spec requirements. They have all-in-one cables, search "midi to usb" on amazon and you'll see. Mapping the td4 is covered @ 39:00 in this video. And you'll have to look at the software you want to trigger (for me it's Toontrack's EZD2) to decide what those aforementioned notes (from my video) should be.
Hey! Great video! Just a question! Is there any driver I have to install in order to record midi? I can't find the midi of roland td4 device in preference in reaper... Thanks for your time!
My TD4 (I assume all TD4s) use a 5 pin midi cable, not USB. You only would need a driver for what you're plugging it into. Like your audio interface or in my case, I use a 5 pin midi cable to USB converter which is the M-Audio Midi Sport. I need a driver for the Midi Sport, not the TD4. Hope that helps.
I've bought a new cy-5 cymbal for my td4kp. I want to use the old cymbal as a crash 2. The new cy5 came with a single cable. Can I use it somehow to plug my old cy5 and make a crash 2? Or do I need to order a trigger cable, third party, that has a cr2 cable?
A brand new Alesis Nitro Mesh is cheaper than a used Roland TD4 if you're looking for your first kit. A used Roland TD3 will save you a few bux than with a used TD4.
Hey! Thank you for this video, really helpful! I just have one question - I factory reset my roland TD-4, unlinked the zones - but now the edge sound is really low, i cranked up the pad sound overall, but the edge is still low - Do you have any solutions for this ? :) Regards, Runar

Hi there, what an hell of a walktrought! I have a question, as i wanna buy a 3 zone ride, and i'm about to get a Td4 module. Actually my kit reflect my acustic one, snare, kick, tom, floor tom, hh, 2 crashes and ride. At the moment i still have the Millenium module with tom2 with ride input and set as ride, and 2nd crash with tom2 input set as crash. With the Td4, using the crash2 input trick to gather the bell of the ride, can i use the tom2 input as a crash, so i don't have to split crash1 imput? I don't mind 2 zones on crashes as i'm goin' to keep using my mono 'till they last for the moment, and i could keep choking them. All i found googling doesn't take in consideration using only two toms, but i should be ok?
If you plug a single zone tom cable into a dual zone cymbal, only the bow trigger in the cymbal will work and you'll will lose the ability to choke/squelch.
@@ShootieSchool I know, but i'm goin to plug a single zone crash so it's not a big deal, but i'm asking about the Td4, if i can do the same i'm doing with the Millenium module, using the tom input to plug a 2nd crash, and the 2nd crash input into the ride bell, so i don't have to sacrifice any pad or effect. ( i don't kow why i keep writing iMput)
@@IllGib I would say anything you plug into any cable will trigger it. I can't guarantee because I don't use the said cymbal. I have a feeling you won't be able to choke though. The Tom cable on a TD4 is a mono cable.
@@ShootieSchool The basic cymbals i have in my kit are chokable even if are mono, i don't know what magic trick Thomann did with those kits, so maybe i could still choke them. By the way the most important it's that i dont have to sacrifice a channel to get the full response out of my actual pieces, since i finally decided for the Td4 after two months of extensive researches :D The day i read that it only support 2 zones i was like D: I don't have any need to expand the kit as i wanna to reflex my acoustic set, and i got to compact after a couple of years of GAS, when i finally realized that what i have now it's all i really need :) If you wanna check my channel i have some (pretty old) videos of covers and gigs with bands, and my beloved Gretsch Renown. Hi, I own a td 4kx2,. I want to have a 3-zone sound on my snare. Dou you have any suggestions for me?😁 I was about to buy for un snare upgrade but different bran (yamaha) is it possible?
I have a problem with my drum Kit. I can only hear sound in the left earphone. I recently bought a New headsets because i thought that the old one i had was broken. I plugged in my New RH-300v headphones. But that didn't fix it. I've gone through all of the settings on the Kit multiple times, i don't know what's wrong. Please help!
Assuming you're using the headphone output from the TD4. And assuming you've check the mixer/panning settings to make sure everything isn't panned in one direction. It sounds like your headphone jack on the TD-4 is broke. 'if' that's is indeed the case, it's probably because someone stepped on the headphone cable while it was plugged in, common accident. If I were you and didn't have a friend that can solder circuit boards and fix it cheap, i would confirm that the main outputs on the back of the unit are not broken. If they work fine. I would acquire a cheap mini-mixing board and plug the main outputs of the TD-4 into this mini-mixer, and monitor your TD-4 with your headphones from there. Just like I do in this video, not that I highlight that fact. Or if you're already have a workflow with a computer/DAW, stop using the TD-4 sounds and just use your kit to trigger software sounds. Hope that helps.
@@Melissa05121992 Maybe you are just distorting. With all of your gear, there are many volume knobs, turn them down or try turning the volume of just those drums down in the TD4. Also, in these video programs there are "noise suppression, and automated volume" settings. Try disengaging those if they exist in Google Meet. Good luck. Hard to tell what the issue is from here.
@@bukojoe3821 I use all of the original stock pads that came with the TD-4. So I don't really customize anything. I did add a CY12R ride in which I simply had to tell the TD-4 what pad I was using. I use custom settings for two reasons. One is if I'm using an off-brand pad or a used beat-up pad that does not trigger correctly. Two, if I'm playing Hard-Rock/Metal drums, I will increase the sensitivity settings so my hits are more even and powerful. Otherwise, there is really not much that I personally adjust. for my playing . If you're new, I would look at it in one of two ways. One, use the custom settings to compensate for how 'you' play e-drums. or Two, change your technique of how you play drums to compensate how the TD4 wants you to play. Since this has been my main kit for over 10 years, I think I have adjusted my playing to the default settings. I hope that is sensible and maybe helps you with your question. Feel free to ask something more specific, I may be able to help.

@@ShootieSchool thank you. I believe as of now i am going to play with muffling the Tom sounds. Hopefully i will find something usable.
Can you add another cymbal using the line in or line out?
No this is not an expandable kit. For my setup in the video, I could trade the three zone ride, for (2) two zone cymbals.
A poor mans way to expand this kit could be using splitters on your TRS (stereo) cables and exchange a dual zone cymbal for (2) one zone cymbals.
I personally combine a TD-4 with a TD-3 using a midi merger to expand my kit.
Hope that helps.
@@ShootieSchool thank you man I appreciate that!
No prob
Thanks for this vid. I'm still rocking a TD4 module. Have been since 2010. Could you do a comprehensive vid of the midi connection thing?
Not anytime soon unfortunately. Are you talking about the Midi Merge? What part of the vid are you referring?
hello again sir :) what kind of snare are you using? maple 1, 2, open, brush etc.. thank you sir 🙏🙏🙏
When I use the Roland sounds, I use the Studio preset, Snare 06.
99% of the time, I'm using Superior Drummer, or EZ Drummer 2 to get my Vkit sounds though.
Thanks sir :)
I'm still tryin to figure my TD4 out right now. Btw, really like the Megadeth jammin part
LOL! Good times.
Thank you so much.
You got it!
Great video. Is there anything that compares in price to TD 4
Watch this same video again except starting at 54:29. Let me know.
Thanks! It worked great.
@@runarjensen3816 Sweet.
hi, friend
I have a question for you, can I program the metronome so that when I hit a pad it activates automatically?
thank you
I don’t think that is possible. I think you’ll need software to figure something out like that.
Thanks for such a lovely video.. Really helpful... When my XStick feature is On I am getting Cross Stick sound inbetween when I hit the Snare Pad right at the centre. I cross checked multiple times if my stick is hitting the rim but No I was hitting the snare head right at the centre. Also it is not happening regularly for every snare hit. But after 5-6 snare hits Im getting 1 Cross Stick sound on hitting the centre of snare mesh pad. Pls help.
You use the Xstick adjust setting. If tat doesn't work maybe the pad is on it's way out.
If you plug a single zone tom cable into a dual zone cymbal, only the bow trigger in the cymbal
will work and you'll will lose the ability to choke/squelch.
By the way the most important it's that i dont have to sacrifice a channel to get the full response out of my actual pieces, since i finally decided for the Td4 after two months of extensive researches :D The day i read that it only support 2 zones i was like D:
I don't have any need to expand the kit as i wanna to reflex my acoustic set, and i got to compact after a couple of years of GAS, when i finally realized that what i have now it's all i really need :)
If you wanna check my channel i have some (pretty old) videos of covers and gigs with bands, and my beloved Gretsch Renown.
Thanks!
My mp3 player is only outputting music from the right side. the sound of the drums comes out of both sides, I didn't find how to configure this, could you tell me?
I would guess either a bad cable or a bad headphone jack on the TD4 unfortunately.
Just got a td7 w.no manual. Am stuck on preset kits,help-tryin to cycle through library of sounds
How can we conet dslr camera with tha module for recording?
I use a capture card for video and OBS.
Question: What I don't understand: Is it possible to choose differemt Sounds for every Pad? Maybe for Snare "heavy" or for Tom 1 "Fiber" etc.?
Any sound in the module can be assigned to any pad.
@@ShootieSchool Thanx. Then I must watch your Video again. 😁

Hey, great video, I’m new to electro drums and this has been very informative. One question, do you know, or would anyone here know whether the FD-9 hi hat pedal is compatible with the TD-4 module?
It works. I've only tried it a few times myself.
cool
How do I assign different sounds for each zone on my cymbals? If I can.

@@ShootieSchool Thank you! For the help and the super fast response Lol
Hi does this accept dual zone or even triple zone cymbals?
It does. For triple zone you must use 2 cables.
@@ShootieSchool so this one accepts piezo and switch type triggers right
@@God0mesu I couldn't recommended anything besides what's listed in the manual.
My drum sound nice but going on to Google meet the bass sound horrible.... How to fix it? I am currently using behringer mixer mx 400
What is "Google meet the bass"?
@@ShootieSchool Hi google meet is like zoom. My drum kick bass and tom 3 sound horrible. I am connection MX400 to irig and straight into jack.
@@ShootieSchool Thank you 😊
How to record a video ?
OBS. Open Broadcast Software.
Hello sir im new owner of td4.. can u recommend kits set up for snare, tom1, tom3, crash1, crash2, ride and kick drum.. thanks a lot :)
Do you mean that you have to buy the actual drum pads?
I mean custom set up in the module sir.. Like solid for bass, wood 12 for tom1? Thanks sir for very fast response :)
Thanks a lot sir happy new year :)
