    Interestingly, this is the same techinque orcas has shown in hunting sea lions, such giving us an idea how dolphins (including orcas in the group) can master virtuoso-like hunting techniques in the same way humans can do: the training in such cases is very long, and i know could include a sort of "rite of passage" once the juvenile has proved it has learnt it. But it is a counter-instinctive learning, something, as i know, isn't found in any other animal group except for humans and their closest allies of the past.

    • @Knapweed
      @Knapweed 4 года назад +3

      @@petterwiik7232 You can call it "George" if it makes you feel any better. "Instinct" is just a word invented by humans to account for behaviour that shows intelligence or emotions, as that makes it easier to abuse, kill and eat other animals, e.g. Shark Fin soup, torturing dogs to make them taste better, torturing and stabbing bulls for the pleasure of the crowd etc. etc. The other bullshit is that fish don't feel pain, so it's OK to drag them through water by a hook in their mouth and leave them gasping for breath until they suffocate. Here's the latest research from June this year:
      "Neurobiologists have long recognized that fish have nervous systems that comprehend and respond to pain. Fish, like “higher vertebrates,” have neurotransmitters such as endorphins that relieve suffering-the only reason for their nervous systems to produce these painkillers is to alleviate pain."
      Other bullshit, fish only have a two-second memory. Fact, there is a tiny fish called a Goby that inhabits rock pools. At high tide, the Goby maps out the area and notes which areas will turn into tide pools at low tide. After it chooses the pool, it will map the closest pools' distance and direction so that it can jump into an adjoining pool to escape any predators that may have ended up in the original pool with it. The Goby can retain all this information for a month, a feat beyond the capacity of humans. As this is a dynamic situation, it can't be 'instinct' can it?

    Some river dolphins actually climb over banks that are twenty meters wide. They squirm around and move along the ground until they fall into water on the other side. This is how some dolphins get to their closed of breeding grounds that aren’t connected to the river or sea.
