I appreciate you demo'ing some cleaner/crunch tones on this guitar. Most of the other videos I've seen are an over-the-top 80's shred fest, which makes sense given it's an EVH, but your tones and playing here are more in line with my personal tastes. Very nice stuff!

this guy is right on piont i have many vanhalen guitars believe it or not my fave is the standard indonisia i have earnie ball peavey wolfgang standard usa and special usa but my go to guitar is like i said evh standard indonisia dont let price get in the way

Eddie Van Halen was correct, all you need is one perfect guitar to play anything you want with it.
Metal shreds, jazz, blues, funk, punk and anything you can imagine.
Much respect to the designer and vision which Eddie put into creating this guitar. God bless him.

The US pickups are different than those in the Standard or Special but they are still great pickups! The only other difference is that the US and JP Signature models use an A3 magnet in the neck pickup. The original MIJ and MIC Specials had all US parts including the US Pickups but a flat top, like the Standard, until the special moved to MIM when it got the carved top and import pickups.
Fantastic and thorough review, plan to get one of the Standards again soon. Over the past couple of years I have sold multiple guitars and play this body shape pretty much 90% of the time, just so comfortable and easy to play.

Excellent review! I'm at my second EVH Wg Std. Note that on the EVH website the description of the Std says that it is made of the same material as the other models, but the specs section says that it is made of poplar. I checked with EVH and they confirmed that it is poplar... This is not a problem for me because it sounds top notch. My first WG Std had a defect, no matter how I adjusted the neck, the small E came off the frets too easily. I replaced it with another WG Std which does not have this defect, but whose tuners seem less precise with a little play in it (go figure). ...Perfect in all other aspects. So I think that with this model it is worth trying a few at the shop and choosing the best one.

Hey cool review man. I do have to point out that you’re wrong about the switching on a Les Paul however, the middle position is exactly the same, both humbuckers are activated, not coil taps that you stated. This is the way ALL Les Pauls are configured unless you have custom wiring or the HP-4 circuit.
This is a guitar I’d never get rid of. It does it all.. Eddie knew what he was doing pickups are awesome I have same Indonesian guitar and quality is amazing. I agree about the trem too. Only mod I’ve done is copper foiled the electric cavity where pots and switches are , it cured the hum as it had slight issue would not hesitate in getting another

I bought a Purple Quilt Standard as soon as they became available. Even without Baked Maple, the neck is amazing. Carbon rods in the neck add stability. Rolled fretboard edges are super comfortable. I also own an original (pre-Mexico) Wolfie Special. I actually prefer the feel of the Standard neck. Everything else about the OG Special is better though.
I had string slippage from new with the saddles on my Floyd Special and ended up changing the saddles for non-Zinc items. Problem solved...
Pickups on the Standard are made to eVh Specs in Asia. The same pups are used on the Mexican Specials. Only the USA Customs have the USA wound pups now. The MIJ & MIC Specials had the USA pups and the vintage Stainless Steel fret wire

EVH Wolfgang standard is an amazing guitar and in its price range even more so. Fast neck, great pickups and the weight and balance feel right. The Floyd Rose isn't an issue but if compared to the higher end it does feel cheaper. From a playing standpoint the guitar is a players guitar and simplicity that's effective. Excellent video and the playing rocked

Awesome demo going through the guitar! I got a Smokin deal on an EVH Standard at Sweetwater yesterday! For the money it smokes other guitars at a much higher price point!

There are differences in all the pickups in the different range. The USA pickups are made in California they have alnico 2 in the bridge and 3 in the neck. The standard pickups are made in Asia and use only alnico 2 and sound different from the USA model pickups. The USA pickups has more midsize and are tighter on the low end.
Great guitar! i like green color,and also sparkle silver. Gold one is awesome too! I'm not using a lot FR guitars,but this one sounds amazing! I wanna buy same guitar,or maybe wolfgang special.
I have a Spalted maple standard. Love the exotics. If I had the money (and space) I would get one of every finish! It is the easiest playing guitar I own, and sounds awesome. God bless Eddie Van Halen

Great video, I bought the EVH Wolfgang special stealth, love that guitar one of the best playing guitars out of the box, but I wish it would have came with a case but I got the EVH case .

I just saw this i have 2 wolfgang standards one is the gold sparkly one the other is the quilted red with a maple neck ,i also have a strat and 2 charvel san dimas guitars as well , both my evh standards were around 700 new ,i have to say the quality of the evh standards are very very good ,i can believe they are sold so cheap for what they are, i tend to pick up my evh standards pretty much every time i play i did however put a 37mm brass block in both the evh guitars they sound awesome, but yeah youre right they are great ,good video take care god bless

That seems like a fairly standard toggle to me. I don't know of many guitars that split the humbuckers in the middle position. Maybe you aren't very familiar with wiring setups.

I thought the pickups were made overseas but to the EVH specs? Also, at the price point, I don't think Fender's getting in their wood stocks for them and shipping that over to Indonesia. I do think the woods are sourced differently.
I think the key with this guitar is Eddie's design. The amount put into it makes it a really great guitar. The pickups do sound amazing, but I haven't tried a recent USA model, or Mexican model. At this price, it's absolutely exceptional.

Good video but you might want to double check how the switch works on a Les Paul it doesn’t split the pickups in the middle position at least none that I have ever seen. You need push/pull pots for that.

I’m going to order from Sweetwater as well, been going back and fourth between a standard or special, and of course, can’t decide on color, all of the colors I like are out of stock. 🤣
I finally got it. I should have paid for the Sweetwater setup because the action height was horrendous out of the box. I tried adjusting the bridge and truss rod, and was able to get it playable, but there's a huge difference in the string height on fret 1 vs 22 so I think I'm going to have to shim the neck to get it where it needs to be.
Other than that, even with the action issue, everything else is great and met my expectations. Tone is fantastic and I really love these EVH humbuckers. Maybe this one slipped through the quality control on the neck angle check, but the finish was perfect and fret work looks great. If I wasn't confident doing my own guitar setup, I'd be pretty disappointed, so I hope mine was a fluke and not the norm.
@@NORMIES_GET_OUT mine had an awful factory set up too, and other issues. Assumed it was a Friday afternoon job but I’m not so sure either. Ignoring all the “it looks fantastic “ reviews, many people report similar experience.

Did you have to do an extensive setup with this one?- I picked one up and I was wondering if I should get one done?
Didn't need to do hardly anything at all. I think I may have screwed in the claw a bit more, and maybe tweaked the neck a touch.
How does the neck profile compare to the Charvel DK you have behind you?
The EVH neck is narrower E to E, vertically), which I like. The Charvel is a little flatter feeling, but still very comfortable. The Evh is the smoothest neck I've played. Both are exceptional.
I just got a Stryker red one and you cannot buy a better guitar for this price !
Be careful when buying one of these they have major quality control issues, the one I received was a dud. Have a short up on my page so you know what to look out for when buying one. Hopefully yours turns out better than mine !
