Intentionally decided to sell my D700 and purchase a 24 megapixel D600 for more image resolution. Purposely purchased a REFURBISHED D600 to avoid the out of box oil spots and old firmware of the "New" cameras issues. The oil spots were not present out of the box but developed after 30 days of use and only time can tell if the D610 is a problem solved? All the shooting circles recommended the refurbished bodies with "cleaned sensors".
This video will document my experience and how I will be treated by the Nikon Corporation to have the issues resolved as a customer. Feel free to subscribe for a part 2 follow up resolution. It is hard to keep my emotions suppressed but I want to be neutral given the poor customer service and web based filing system. I demand only the best of myself in regards to my images and expect my gear to keep up with my shooting assignments. Compromising and excepting oil spots is just wrong and sinful.
Also experienced the back display a greenish hue and does not accurately depict the captured image color, CLS system failed to trigger remote flashes when in close range (at a wedding...had to work around that), and when in CH frame rate the exposures can be different by 0.3,0.5 stop under constant lighting conditions. Out of the box it kicked some great tail but now I am second guessing what the d610 will offer in a form of a solution. Hope that you understand that this is my opinion based on my experiences. Would have never thought this would happen to me but it did and hope others consider and value this video. Plan to follow up this video with a part 2 resolution. Thank you for watching and all the best. I will not be held back by oil spots! Get the shot no matter what!

I was really considering switching from Canon to Nikon while I upgrade from APS-C to full-frame sensor. Mainly because of Nikon has great sharp FX ultra wide-angle lenses. D600/D610 Nikon and Canon 6D were the top contenders. But after making research about them I found out that D600 has serious issues and D610 was released less than a year after D600 in order to fix them. Then I found out that it's possible to buy refurbished D600 body just for 1300$ and it has all issues fixed. Sounds like a great deal! Not really, as it turned out that there are still high chances that you'll get a lemon for 1300$.
Sorry, Nikon, I was really going to buy your camera, but now I'm buying Canon 6D...

+Misanthropic Mystery - Somehow, it's in my head when a person gets that box that says Nikon on it, he or she is full of confidence, whether a pocket point and shoot or a pro-level imager. I'm proud to sport the gold on black strap. But what I'm learning is eroding my pride in that historic, iconic brand.

I was really happy to get my D600. I even had to borrow the money to get it as I couldn't afford it at the time. I've been a Nikon user since I got my first F4 (35mm) brand new at Clumet back in the 80's. I never had an issue with this brand and that is why I stayed with it when I jumped onto the digital world by purchasing the D70s (oh what a beautiful little camera that was) then my D200 and nearly 100,000 frames later I got my d600 I thought the problem was dust on the sensor... Bought my very first full frame camera ever! Nikon D600, 12/02/2013
2 weeks before I even opening it! I googled how a camera like this work ;)
Obviously I fell over this problem with dust on D600.
Taught me how to detect dust on the sensor,HOLY CRAP!! I had a
tremendous amount of dust upper left corner!!!
Got me a replacement! Thank GOD!! So far so good.
    (touch on wood).....
PS: Im not a professional photographer, so i'm not shooting
    1000 of picture yet ;)
But it seems that the 5D Mark II or 5D Mark III
is the next choice of camera.
    1000 ThX for all information!!!

Hi. This is really very useful video. I was going to buy D600 then I heard about oil issue so decided to wait for D610. As you mention I going to wait for 90 day. It’s a very idea you gave me. I really like D610 but I don’t want any hassle to deal with any issue. Thanks for your video. I really appreciate

I started to look into Sony. On 10/30/13 received the camera back with a replaced Shutter Mechanism. Need to put it through a few thousand shutter test, CLS and other shooting experiences. Subscribe for the findings. While waiting to get the camera back, been researching other peoples experiences. My other 2 shooter friends sent their d600. As of now, DO NOT PUCHASE A D600 used, refurbished or new. Will tell all very soon.

FROM THE LAS FOST... My problem with my brand new D600 was unbeliebale, I never removed my 20-105 zoom because I have an excellent range but I didn't know how "dust" got in. I thought as people said the D600 was a "full frame D700" I concluded that it was cheaply sealed and dust made its way into the sensor. ONLY TODAY, SIX MONTHS LATER I learned that it is an oil issue!! OIL??? UNBELIEVABLE! IN ADDITION TO A NON-TENPIN cable release inlet. This camera is full of flaws!!.. WHAT ELSE NEXT NIKON?

Got the camera back from Nikon with a new shutter upgrade. From the service center it has a small spot lower left that would not blow off with air (thinking it is a pixel problem) Racked off over 1000 shots and at an important event got an error code and the eyepiece went dark. Camera unresponsive with power recycle or lens swap. Turned out the new style shutter (d610 shutter) got stuck. Switched to Mirror up and it commanded shutter to move and reset. Good info if you ever get an error code and the display gets dark. I never had any other Nikon camera mirror get bound or stuck. This is starting to suck very badly for me and my decision to use a d600. It will be going back for a 2nd time in a month. 11/10/13

I used the D600 extensively and bought it refurbished. I ran into the same oil issue but after one cleaning never had it again. Hunts, the store I purchased it from, cleaned it for free. However I do use it primarily for video with some photographs here or there. Its been a great camera for me.

I am sorry for not checking the Truereview RUclips account. I didn't get a chance to make video #3 yet and happy to be busy enough not to have a moment to sit down. Just a long ordeal with 2 return trips up to 3 weeks each trip out for service. The second time it was corrected and have been using the camera with no oil spots. I will say that in my line of "photo (not video)" work in low light weddings, the d600 has been a stumbling block with it's AFS low light capability. I know now that the d700 or d3 is better in low light...on the other hand in day light the colors and WB are much better in the revised d600/D610. I would not recommend for anyone to sell a d700 just to convert to the D600. It is an upgrade in image quality and WB but downgrade in low light AFS that is much needed in a professional environment. All the best to you...If you or your friends are ever in the North NJ area look me up www.zealimages.net or Instagram @zealimages and we can plan a photo outing. All the best, Al

My brand new D7200 looks worse! I've never seen so many spots in my life! My 6 year old Nikon isn't half as bad as the new D7200 and i've put it through hell! I've only taken 400 shots with the D7200 and have had the same 35mm lens on it since I got it a week ago. :(

+Misanthropic Mystery - My d7100 started spotting with oil. I called Nikon and the young man said to send it in. It's past warranty, so their defect will be on me. Ok, on a Monday night, I bought a new d7200 body from a retailer. Didn't have much time with it until Friday afternoon. I shot about 3 dozen images of commercial airliners against a blue sky @300mm. In the computer. Reviewing the shots had me very pleased until about the 15th shot. There sat an oil spot, 50x30 pixels! I had not changed the settings, not even focus, which I disabled from the shutter button and use the lock button. The only thing that moved was the lens axis and that was minimal. Every subsequent shot has the spot.

These do not look like oil spots, there is no splatter, these I'm sure are normal dust spots that any dslr camera would suffer from. Owning a dslr camera means learning to clean the sensor which is easy or taking the camera into a good local camera service shop. The paranoia surrounding the D600 has spread across the web like a plague and even if you do not change lenses, dust will be attracted to the low pass filter on top of the sensor.

If Nikon's "solution" to the D600 oil and oily dust that sticks to the sensor is to either blow you off or tell you "Buy the new D610" then that's all the justification I would need to NEVER use Nikon gear again.

It is clear that you do not own a D600. I'm shooting Nikon for more than 35 years now (film & digital), what happens with my D600 is definitely NO normal dust. These particles of oil or whatever it is, come from somewhere inside the camera. It is a production fault. 100% sure.

  • @user_mac0153
    @user_mac0153 10 лет назад

perhaps in the manufacturing fabrication process of production the image sensor material includes a particle of foreign matter so the production die has distributed a batch run with a substrate stain somewhere in the cycle run ..or something like that. Obviously you have been very upset by the affair, my sympathy to you.
