i have Nikon D610 from January 2020, and in October 2023 with 180.000 click shutter, its fantastic camera for me, and today November 2023 i get D610 again, so i have two nikon D610. very very happy have Nikon D610
Bought mine back in 2012, still working strong now (as July 2024). Working as a photojournalist by day, wedding photographer at weekend, my D610 really really a beaten up daily camera, all the hand grip rubber had already gone, all the marker already blurred, and the body beautifully brassed or cracked since years ago 😅 Shutter mechanism broke once, got repaired, and still running strong! I do really like the color from my D610, RAW files are really impressive in my opinion. I started my professional photography journey from Nikon D80, D2Xs, D3X, D700, D4s then stuck with D610 for a decade. Hi! Thank you very much for this amazing feedback. I found it very interesting. I agree that the D610 has it all. If I could change a few things about this camera, I'd like to have face recognition that works via the viewfinder as well. Also, shutter speeds faster than 1/4000s would be nice. Everything else is really great. Your own story is a testament to how great this camera is. Kind regards!
Hi! Yes, the D610 is an amazing camera. It is definitely better than crop sensor. However crop sensor cameras are smaller and will accept more lenses. Kind regards!
@@73kudos Hi! The D610 is capable of producing amazing image quality. However, it has a small problem when it comes to portraits. Its face recognition system only works in live view, which is clumsy. This Sunday, I'll post a video comparing the D610 and D750, and I conclude that the D750 is better for portraits. However, even the D750 is not perfect in that regard. If you specifically want portraits, you may want to consider hybrid cameras. I'm not saying that DSLRs don't work, but modern hybrids have an edge here. Kind regards!
I have an Ex. condition D610 arriving in a few days. Had one before but tried out M43 for the smaller size. While there are advantages and disadvantages to all formats the dynamic range of the D600/D10 series is on another level compared to the best M43 sensors. And if you look at DXO specs one will find the older models like the D610 still are very competitive with the full frame Z cameras. As for size I am keeping things simple with AFD primes which are small and affordable. I cannot afford 2 or 3 primes for the z system. So yeah for under $500 the D610 is a hell of a bargain and still better than most of us.
Hi Mike! I agree with you. The prices are coming down fast these days but the camera is still the same great performer that it used to be. Kind regards!
I have a d610 that I've been using for 3yrs now. Prior I was using the nikon d5600 and decided to upgrade to the d610. All things equal it has been a reliable tool and has produced some really great images. I've paired it with the Tamron 70-200mm, nikkor 85mm, nikkor 50mm, nikkor 35-70mm and they all performed exceptionally well. With that said don't regret making the purchase.
Yes that D610 was a great camera back in its days. I you got it new, you can probably keep it shooting till the cows come home. But this is Nov 2023. Don't limit its use, you can still create good images with it, also use it to pound in nails, and even use it as a small boat anchor. Thanks so much for your post.
Hi Shelly! Indeed, it takes a while to learn all the options - this is a powerful camera. I'll have more videos on it, too. Congratulations on buying this camera and best of luck with your photography. Kind regards!
I got one almost a year ago; November 2022, and it’s a fantastic camera. Of course learning a new camera is always a journey, but when you get it right, the images are very rewarding. Getting to the first level of aperture priority shooting will satisfy 70% of most people’s needs.
Hi Charles! Thank you for your feedback. It's a nice camera, indeed. It's also a very good camera for learning photography the classical way. Kind regards!
I bought my D610 new about 2 years ago, it must be one of the last available new. A great camera, for landscape. I think the D7200 is fantastic and a better all round model.
I bought mine in 2016. Ok, cameras have moved on since then. But my D610 produces images every bit as good as any DLSR around. I have seven lenses (2 DX) plus a SB-700 flash gun. All in alll, i have a great full frame set up. I see no point in changing when the final image is superb, quality wise.
Hi Mike! Yes, absolutely. I always say that if a camera was amazing in the past then it also must be amazing at the current time. Because it's still the same camera. You have a great array of of lenses. Thanks so much for watching!
Honestly, I wanted to buy a used one d750, but I ended up buying d610. I paired it with really nice Tamron glass and I have to say that I enjoy shooting with this camera very much. As an amateur I'm still discovering this camera and I will continue 😂. Thank You for great video, an please make more.
Hi, great video. I ordered a D610 and received it two days ago. For the short time I've been using it, it is a great camera. I have used the D5100 for the last 10 years and did a great job. I wanted to finally get a camera with a full frame sensor and more features. Since my budget was tight, the D610 was inexpensive to buy. The camera I bought only had 8,300 shutter count, so it still has a long life span left. Looking forward to seeing more D610 videos.
Hi izziereal2010! I think you made a very good decision with your D610. I like it a lot and full frame is powerful. Indeed, I'll have more videos planned about D610. Kind regards!
Don't sell or gift your D5100, I bought 8 years ago a d610, is an amazing camera but I sold my D5100 was a big mistake, The D610 is a nice camera amazing photos but heavy, you will think twice to carry the camera around I end up not taking any kind of photos, because the weight of the body+lens, recently I bought a Z50 great camera and later I bought Z7II used.
I own a D750, sort of upgraded D610. I like the smaller size of these fullframe camera's. They are very versatile, much more allround than the more pro-ish D800(E)/D810.
great review, I think this will make a great starter camera for my mom who wants to join me for my birding adventures. just like people thought film would die I doubt DSLRs will ever fully die off, rather they will coexist with mirrorless someone will continue to make them and people will continue to repair them. I know I will continue to use my Canon EOS T3 for the next few years, it's still amazing and I mastered it and with 60,000 photos through it it's still clicking away at 10 years old.
I have few Nikon dslr's, and all of them except d610 are pro types. But still, d610 is my main camera for work - it is so light in hands, reliable, files are exceptional, results are very satisfying. I went to sell it few times, but I am just too attached on it, it is only camera that I received it new, and it was as replacement for faulty d600 (bad shutter and oil on sensor). Very underrated camera, I choose it over more expensive d810..
Great review, I'm currently debating which FF Nikon to get as an upgrade from my D3200. I mainly shoot events and automotive. My D3200 is nice and is still a good camera to this day but I find it lacking in low light even with fast lenses, the continuous shooting is also rather slow. It also does not have that many features, not that I need many honestly. I was considering the D610, D800 and D750. The D610 is the cheapest of them, around 400euro for a semi low shutter count, there is at least a 200-300 euro difference between it and the other two. What would you recommend?
Hi ArtistKS! Thank you for this question. Some people would probably say that the D750 is the best of these cameras. However, "best" means different hings to different people. The D800 has 36 Mpix. Some people may need this to make huge prints. For me this is a downside because the pixel area is the smaller. The D800 is also larger than the others - again a problem in my book. A real advantage of F800 for me is its max shutter speed of 8000. This is faster than the others and you can shoot bright primes more wide open in bright light. The D750 has a tilting LCD and that may be important when shooting close to the ground. None of the cameras are anything special for video. It is difficult to say that one of these cameras is the best for sure. For the same price I'd personally get the D750 but considering price differences and the fact that all cameras produce similar photo quality, I'd go with the D610. I'm happy with my D610 and I'm producing more videos on different aspects of the camera. I hope this helped you a little. Best of luck to you with your camera purchase!
I bought my D610 late 2012, it is still going strong and the battery gives me many hundreds of shots per charge. As you say, it is not stellar with moving targets. Quite a nice camera.
Hi Zoltan! That sounds like a great deal. What I like about this camera is that I keep discovering its capabilities and I like it more and more as time passes. Kind regards!
Good review of a very capable camera. Of note; Tilt and Tilt & Flippy screens were available on many cameras even as far back as 2004. My old Canon G5(2004) had both tilt and flip. Even Nikon Coolpix(s) had it before the Nik-610. For myself, those functions are essential for my often used near ground perspective.
Hi Tre Deuce! Thank you for making these interesting points. I also like tilting screen a lot for macro photography. If the D610 had that it would be a perfect camera. Kind regards!
I agree, the lock button is a hindrance, I noticed this when upgrading from a D7000 which didn't have one to the D7100 which does. It is the only drawback compared to the older camera.
SO true in every detail except one very troubling one : The oil on sensor. I used my "brand new" D 610 for bird photography in 2018 shooting in high frame speed and had the SAME ISSUE as the D 600. I never shoot in high frame speed agian with my D 610 camera or any other (PSD I guess).
Hi Mariano! Thank you for making this relevant point. I've heard it from other users, too. It seems that the oil issue was partially solved or alleviated with the D610, but not completely eliminated. Kind regards!
I think that the oil issue was not limited to the D600, I have a couple of Nikon DSLR and found the same issue on 3 brand new D7200, D7100 and learned to clean my sensors better than Nikon. Nikon only clean to F11. However the mirrorless are like dust bunny incubators. The D610 is a great camera for landscaping. Considering that the glass is the main factor in great results, at this time glass for DSLR models is very reasonable for second hand.
A very nice video, thanks for your work. You have also a good voice for sharing your informations about the D610, so I cruise on your channel…😊 Yesterday I bought a D610 after using a F3 with a few lenses for years, wich I want to use now on a digital Nikon… I’m excited…
The only issue i have with my d610 is the autofocus in lower light. it hunts quite a bit and i've missed a few shots because of it. if you shoot a lot indoors go for the d750. otherwise, i love this camera.
Either canon 5D-ii or a nikon D610. Both are great. But i prefer D610 cuz the body could utilized old lens to a new-gen lens such ad AfS even tho its not an AFP
Hi! Thank you for asking. I sometimes hesitate to give very concrete advice about buying cameras because people have different tastes and different needs. But this time it's different. The Nikon D610 wins in almost every category against the Canon 5D MII. The only two things that can tip the balance in the direction of Canon are the max shutter speed of 8000 (against Nikon's 4000) and the price. Everything else speaks for the Nikon. I hope I could help you. Kind regards!
I have a later model 600, and there are no oil issues. Of course it was a decent bargain too. When manufacturers find an issue like that, they tend to fix it as quickly as possible, but Nikon then updated the number to avoid the reputation issue. Also, note how quickly the D700 superseded it.
I was considering moving up to a Nikon D750 as an introduction to full frame until I started noticing these. Ok, having that tilt screen is handy for those low shots, but they are much more expensive than the 610 and have the same image quality. Still, now that I am getting the most out my current D7100 and seeing the great results, I am starting to question the need for full altogether. Will there be an appreciable difference to justify the extra cost, size and weight?
Hi Odysseus Returns! Whether or not a full frame is a good idea is a great question. I've made a specific video on that: ruclips.net/video/NdWW74CduIg/видео.html . I too think that the cost, weight and advantages are not always justified. This depends on one's photography needs. Kind regards!
We all know opinions are like noses, everybody has one. I am sure the D610 is a very nice camera, I even thought about buying one. But 2 years ago, I switched to the Nikon mirrorless system. Full frame cameras, most of their prime lenses and some zooms. DSLR’s were the bomb back then. This is 2024 and there have been some changes. Once you try mirrorless, you’ll never go back. Thanks for posting your video.
Hi Riberto! I agree with you. Now the dSLR prices are dropping very fast. But mirrorless is winning the battle. I even made a video about whether or not people need dSLR or they should go immediately to mirrorless cameras: ruclips.net/video/Q_JQZT8_NUk/видео.html . Kind regards!
Hi! I want to get Nikon D7000 or D7100 but I couldn't afford it. I checked for D610 and it's slightly affordable. Is it good for capturing wedding photos?
Hi Akanji! Thank you for asking. I would argue that the D610 is even a better choice since it is a full frame camera. With this camera you can only use full frame lenses, though. Best of luck to you!
I have the D7000 as well as the D600 which has similar image quality but as it is full frame it is ideal for older manual focus lenses which do not suffer the 1.5 x crop effect and it will work with DX lenses in crop mode but on a tamaron 11-18 lens (dx) I can use it in full frame mode down to 14mm without any problems.
Hi Tom, another excellent video. A somewhat unrelated question. Why did you choose the Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro VC, instead of the Sigma 105mm macro (or a Nikon macro)? I use Canon cameras, and I don’t have a macro lens, and I am undecided between the Tamron, the Sigma and the more expensive Canon 100mm L macro lens. At the moment I am tending towards the Tamron (F17 model, as I can update it through the Tamron console for use with mirrorless cameras.)
Hi Alberto! Good to hear from you. I didn't have a very good reason to prefer the Tamron. It just so happened that I found one and I started to like it. Later I did some research that confirmed that the Tamron was a bit sharper than the Sigma. The Sigma had its own advantages and scored better with regard to some aberrations but the Tamron was sharper. The Tamron is also the most affordable of the three (the Nikon being most expensive). I'm quite certain that all of the three lenses are very good but I'm happy with the Tamron. I might like a bit faster focusing and would appreciate if the length of the lens didn't change that much during focusing - but these are all minor problems for me. Kind regards!
the only thing I don't like with the D610 (and the D600) is the autofocus system. I've used a D7000 for a little while (which has the same system) and though the single center point performance is "good enough", the moment you step in zone focusing or tracking, the camera just feel like dumb hunk of plastic and metal that can't seen to know what's in front of it. Not like it's unusabe for daily things, even a bit of event photography, but for anything that moves a little faster, the autofocus just doesn't track properly which is definitely limiting. And that's a shame, because the sensor is still good, the ergonomics are also good, it has double SD slots, it shoots decently fast and it's affordable. If it had an accurate AF system as well it could have been the best value for money camera on the market for someone that wants to dip their toes into paid work. And I think that's why the D750 (which is basically the same camera with a tilt screen, and the 51pt AF system) is still much more popular than the D600 today, even though those two bodies are so similar. I myself value color and rendering more than the actual performance. I also happen to shoot sports, so for an affordable full frame DSLR, my choice went to the D700 instead of the D600/610. But honestly I feel like those camera bodies get overlooked nowadays, they're still very potent. I've used my D700 for a few sport events, and most people didn't even notice the difference with the 24MP images that I get out of my Fuji X-H1 (which is the camera I generally use for that). The fact that it's also super solid and almost doesn't use plastic at all for the body is also a little pet peeve of mine, I like my cameras to be sturdy :D
Hi Matthieu! Thank you for your very thoughtful response. I agree that the AF of D610 is not great. Since I'm primarily a landscape shooter I do not mind it very much. I typically photograph from a tripod and take a lot of time to focus. Thanks again and best of luck to you!
While I don't shoot a lot of action, I do take some dynamic shots with my D610 and my experience is much better than yours. The AF system has its obvious limitations but it's not bad at all in decent light and is more reliable and efficient than its counterpart on D7000 (I had that camera previously). Your problems may be due to the user error (e.g. too slow shutter speed) or may be caused by a miscalibrated lens (this can be adjusted to a degree in the body).
@@kociasek Hi kociasek! Thank you for your feedback. Sure, it is all very relative how good the AF is and it does depend on several aspects as you correctly stated. Kind regards!
You can't just presume that the af system performs the same as the d7000. I've got both cameras and the D610 does not have any of the focus issues that the d7000 had. 36 focus points are all usable.
Hi Dejan! Thank you for asking. Do you have Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G? If yes, this is a crop sensor lens and will not work properly in front of a full frame camera. You can make it work by selecting the DX (crop sensor) mode on your camera but then you'll be using only the central part of your sensor. You may want to consider getting a dedicated full frame (FX) lens such as Nikon AF-S 35mm f/1.8G ED. Kind regards!
Stop it down a little bit, at f/4 it should be fine. I will consider AI-s lens / Voigtlander's, they were superior in image quality if you can manual focus.
@@raymondchan3587 Hi! Thank you for your feedback. Stopping down will, indeed, reduce vignetting but unfortunately it will not solve the lens incompatibility issue completely. You'll still have problems in the corners. Kind regards!
Hi! Thank you for asking. In general the D800 is considered a more advanced camera. It offers better resolution, more focus points, better focus sensitivity, better shutter life etc. However the main advantage for me would be its max shutter speed of 1/8000 (as opposed to D610's 1/4000). The D610 is smaller, shoots faster, offers a bit better low light performance (thanks to less pixels) and might be more convenient (and fun) to use. The photo quality of these cameras is really the same. The D610 is also cheaper. When choosing, I'd pay most attention to the condition of the camera when choosing. Look at the condition of the sensor and find out the camera's shutter count. I hope I helped you a bit. Kind regards!
Nikon exchanged my d600 for a d610 due to the oil issue. My only gripe is the shutter only goes to 4000. I like to shoot wide open and find 4000 is sometimes limiting.
Hi! Thanks for writing. Yes, I've also seen that the shutter speed of 4000 is sometimes a bit too slow. I have used an ND filter when shooting wide open but that's not an optimal solution. Kind regards!

Hi! I agree, this is very true. The D750 feels even a bit smaller than the D610. Kind regards!
great review, I think this will make a great starter camera for my mom who wants to join me for my birding adventures.
just like people thought film would die I doubt DSLRs will ever fully die off, rather they will coexist with mirrorless someone will continue to make them and people will continue to repair them.
I know I will continue to use my Canon EOS T3 for the next few years, it's still amazing and I mastered it and with 60,000 photos through it it's still clicking away at 10 years old.
Hi Dave! I hope you are right because I too like dSLR a lot. Right now it's looking like hybrid cameras are winning the battle. Kind regards!
Hi! Thank you so much for your feedback. I agree with what you're saying. This camera is a very good choice for amateurs and pros alike. Kind regards!

Hi Per Jensen! Thank you for your feedback. I agree that the camera is very nice and its battery is quite amazing, too. Kind regards!
Nikon D610 is a digital SLR camera from Nikon, introduced on October 8, 2013, the announced start date of sales is October 18.
The battery life is a bit fall behind the D7000.
I bought one 2 months ago with 5700 shutter count. Bargain. What a great camera.
Hi Zoltan! That sounds like a great deal. What I like about this camera is that I keep discovering its capabilities and I like it more and more as time passes. Kind regards!
Must try to use some vintage lenses, they were gems.
You can set Quick Exposure Compensation mode in the menus, to have one-button exposure compensation.
Hi! Thank you very much for this comment!
Hi! Thank you very much for bringing this out and for watching. Kind regards!
It don't have wifi, but I know that even nikon mirrorless wifi module is shit...
Same with me. I still love this camera body so much, though. I have no motivation to go mirrorless. It's a beast and a gem. 👌
@@JacksonCarson Hi Jackson! I agree that this is a great camera. Thanks a lot for watching. Kind regards!!
@@derekgillan7314 Hi Derek! This is very true. Thank you very much!
A very nice video, thanks for your work. You have also a good voice for sharing your informations about the D610, so I cruise on your channel…😊
Yesterday I bought a D610 after using a F3 with a few lenses for years, wich I want to use now on a digital Nikon… I’m excited…
Hi Studio Bonn! Thank you very much for your compliments. Congratulations on getting the D610! I think you'll be very happy with it. Kind regards!
The only issue i have with my d610 is the autofocus in lower light. it hunts quite a bit and i've missed a few shots because of it. if you shoot a lot indoors go for the d750. otherwise, i love this camera.
Hi! The autofocus is perhaps not the best, indeed. However it also depends on the lens that you use. Thank you very much for watching!
Amazing, given the current price I will buy this high cost performance Full frame and not the mirrorless that having insane price tag.
Hi Raymond! Indeed, these cameras are very affordable now and offer superb quality. The newer mirrorless options are very expensive. Kind regards!
Had one not a bad camera, but it had a oil problem just like the D600. Got a D800 & love it.
Hi! Very interesting that you still had the oil problem. This is very uncommon.
No, the D610 is just a minor fix version for the D600 shutter. Nearly no upgrade at all.
Totally agree about the D610, the D7200 is better.
Hi Derek! Thanks a lot for your feedback. Kind regards!
@@tom_photo Keep up the great videos.
@@derekgillan7314 Thanks so much!
2 very different tools. The D7200 gives you reach & a more reliable AF. The D610 gives you everything that comes with that FF sensor
@@alwynsmit3546 So, which one would you buy if you could only have one?
Estoy muy feliz de tener una década con mi D600
¡Hola! Gracias por tus comentarios. La D600 es una cámara maravillosa. ¡Atentamente!
@@johnarmstrong5727 Hi John! Thank you for this relevant information. Kind regards!
I just bought it for 200e! Damaged but only 22000 clicks. No OK button. 😄
Hi Mallem! This sounds like a great deal for a great camera. Happy photography to you!
Back to DSLR getting a 610
Hi! Getting a D610 is a great decision. Best of luck to you!
Remember when HDR was a thing last decade.
Hi! Thank you for your feedback. HDR is very nice technique in certain situations. Cheers!
My D610 has insanely good low light shooting, far better than even the D810, obviously partly because of the lower pixels
Hi Scott! This is, indeed, true. It's such a nice camera.
@@slooob23 Hi! If you have both cameras you're in the perfect position to compare them. Thanks a lot for your feedback!

Hi Christinel! Thanks for watching. I'll have more videos on this camera. Kind regards!
I just get D610 and I am realy happy but I dont know why I have vignette on him when I use Nikon 35mm 1.8G?

Obvious question...got the latest firmware on it?
Hi! Yes I do. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
D610 or D800?
I've got zero interest in the new mirrorless stuff.
Hi! Thank you for your feedback. I think there are quite many people who think like you. Kind regards!

Hi! Thanks so much for watching. Cheers!
