D600 Nikon Apologies After Class Action Lawsuits Filed! WHAT THE DUST?
Just Days after the Nikon D600 Class Action Lawsuit filing(s) in February 2014, Nikon Responds with a Service Advisory on Febuary,26 2014 and has since revised it with a "newer" Service Advisory including an "Apology" on March 28, 2104 www.nikon.com/news/2014/0328_01.htm
What The Dust?
When it is all said and done. Cause and effect prevailed! The attempted silencing from Nikon cannot sweep this dust under the rug!
Nikon d600 users have now been complaining for 18 months...since the September 18, 2012 release of this model.
Only after the "Pandora's Box" of "Class Action Lawsuits" become evident, Nikon issued and apology and made it clear to take public responsibility to pay for shipping co...

    I had a D7200 it had dust spots from 36 images shot, got worse. Had it professionally cleaned. Dust oil spots returned, Nikon were not good to deal with. Traded it in.1 YEAR LATER bought another D7200, same oil spot after 100 images, by this time I had learned to clean sensors to F32 with HDR applied, Nikon only clean to F16.

    I agree. If Nikon will be honest with us, bear their responsibilities w/o billing us, we can continue to be proud Nikon users. I know I'm not up for losing my investment in Nikkor glass over snotty gear. I'm with you: The Nikon features are laudable. I want them. But who wants to sit and remove spots? Who's got the time or stomach? And the constant hassle of sensor cleaning? See my comments made today on part 1 of this review.

    +Misanthropic Mystery - Somehow, it's in my head when a person gets that box that says Nikon on it, he or she is full of confidence, whether a pocket point and shoot or a pro-level imager. I'm proud to sport the gold on black strap. But what I'm learning is eroding my pride in that historic, iconic brand.

    +Misanthropic Mystery - My d7100 started spotting with oil. I called Nikon and the young man said to send it in. It's past warranty, so their defect will be on me. Ok, on a Monday night, I bought a new d7200 body from a retailer. Didn't have much time with it until Friday afternoon. I shot about 3 dozen images of commercial airliners against a blue sky @300mm. In the computer. Reviewing the shots had me very pleased until about the 15th shot. There sat an oil spot, 50x30 pixels! I had not changed the settings, not even focus, which I disabled from the shutter button and use the lock button. The only thing that moved was the lens axis and that was minimal. Every subsequent shot has the spot.

    I have oil spots on my Nikon D610 with only 2700 shutter count. Not happy, need to send back to Nikon and they are going to charge me because the 610 no longer has that problem. Go figure. You can see the problem on upper left hand part of the picture. There are several spots. flic.kr/p/CXktQs

    Agree with you, have experienced Nikon bad service in UK. My D700 died on me, the shutter stuck open for about 20 seconds then fired. Checked settings.....all ok. Tried another shot, identical symptoms no Err Code then just died. Off to Nikon UK it went, got a estimate for £650 pounds to replace two boards. Technician said i had bent the pins when inserting faulty card. Sent macro pic of card showing not faulty and asked how was it possible to insert it incorrectly and complained about cost of repair. They offered me 25% discount. Complained again and Nikon stated it could be cheaper if only one board was required ? Complained again and still await a reply. Since then have spoken to another guy with same problem, this D700 was one day out of warranty, another £650 estimate, after many frustrating phone calls he ended up paying it. After watching your video i'm thinking Nikon use this line of bent pins to hide the real issue of a D700 shutter problem, Any one else out there with same problem ? Poor service will only loose push Nikon followers away to Canon, Lumixi and Fugi

    I have had my Nikon D600 shutter replaced and after only three weeks the spots are back . I have called and sent them pictures repetitively . The keep saying they can't read the media data . I downloaded there software View nx2 and e- mailed the photo's directly from the software without doing any editing and they still say they can't read media data . Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated . Thank you !

    I had the D600 with the oil spots too. Nikon were useless when I called them and they blamed dust. In the end I returned it to Amazon. I don't want the D610 as I feel it was rushed out to replace the D600 because of the problems. I'm waiting for whatever Nikon FF DSLR comes next to follow the D610 - hopefully this year. With an Expeed 4 engine I hope.

    Thank you for your video. It is nice to know that I'm not the only one. I am experiencing the same thing here. Sent the camera into Nikon and had them work on it, free of charge per the "Nikon Technical Service Advisory for D600" that I received on 2/26/14. The camera was sent to me, 3/17/14, and on the invoice listed the the repair work done: B2 Service Repair Rank B2 Write Up Repair SC 205620 * RPL SHUTTER MECHANISM RELATE PARTS CLN IMAGE SENSOR CKD AUTO FOCUS OPERATION CDK FLASH OPERATION GENERAL CHECK & CLEAN Even with all this service work done I'm still getting these Oil Spots in my photos. It is so tedious to have to correct these in Photoshop CS6. This has added to much unnecessary time to my work flow when I'm editing my real-estate photography.

    I'm with you on all your aggravation with Nikon and I think they're a profoundly arrogant company. That said, I do love their cameras when they work properly. I had a D7000 camera which was dandy so went with the D600 for FX and had the spots out of the box. They stayed even after they replaced the shutter box. I heard they were replacing cameras a couple weeks ago so figured I had zero to lose. I contacted Nikon support and the bottom line they paid for me to send my D600 body to them and they sent me a brand new D610 within 2 days. It has been what I expected from the D600 only without spots. Given, at this point, you still give a rip I'd consider contacting them and they may do the same for you. BTW, I have been recommending Canon to other people who are planning on getting into DSLRs just because Nikon's utter fail on the D600. If I could afford it I'd have purchased a Canon 5D MKIII in a heartbeat and sold all my Nikon gear. Good luck!

      Cody Shell I went to support.nikonusa.com/app/contact/session/L3RpbWUvMTM5NzY5MDgzNy9zaWQvTTc4U2laUmw%3D . Go there then click on "Email Nikon Support". I suggest that you create an account for yourself first then log into that account. From there you can send them an e-mail telling them the specifics of your problem which I'm guessing is sensor spots. In all probability, like they did with me, you'll have to send them photos showing the problem and they'll get back to you eventually with additional instructions. I had to send my camera in a couple of times over the last 18 months before things got hot for Nikon and they made me the offer of the new camera. Because of all this, for you they may just call it a day and offer to replace your camera straight away. Good luck!

      WH Mitty I got my body back on Friday from Nikon and there were spots on the sensor with the first 5 photos I shot. <sigh> I have an account with Nikon.com already. I wonder if I should just fill out another support case and outright ask for a new body.

      I am waiting to see what is going to come out after the D610, but I too am tempted to sell my Nikon lenses and go to Canon after the way Nikon acted over the D600. How are you finding the D610 please? Any problems? How about the focus points that are all clumped together? Thanks for your help.

    • @whmitty1
      @whmitty1 10 лет назад

      ***** The D610 has been flawless in the sense that it is what I expected the D600 to be when I purchased that camera. The focus points are close together the same as they were in the D600. No joy there. That said I knew about the focus points when I bought the D600 and have managed with them just fine. ABSOLUTELY NO sensor splatter and the only dust I see is the rare "normal" dust one sees from changing lenses which go completely away with my Giottos Rocket Air Blaster. Thankfully, for me anyway, the sensor issue is now in the past. Nikon is now officially offering replacement D610 cameras to resolve this issue until November 2014. I received this information from a representative of a legal firm handling a class action suit against Nikon over this problem. This exchange offer is good until November 2014 so don't hesitate to contact Nikon and swap out your camera! Good fortune!

    Update, camera was repaired. It felt good to have a camera with no crap on the sensor. And to my surprise, it started showing spots again. I use it with a 24-70mm 2.8 that is weather sealed. I just filled out the form for the lawsuit at this point.

    After saving up several years, I got the D600 last Sept. and immediately after the D610 came out so I bit the bullet and paid a return fee to B&H and got the D610. Everything has been going great until this past weekend I did some shooting and saw in some photos on the upper left side of the frame the tell-tale spots. I think unfortunately the D610 isn't the magical fix. Shutter count is only 6877. I was hoping it was just dust on the lens, but I switched lenses and the dust stayed in the same spot. Before this I had the D90 and 224842 shutter clicks later, no dust or very little. 1x only professional cleaning back in 2009. So now begins the "what to do with the D610" issues.

  • @whmitty1
    @whmitty1 10 лет назад

    Thanks for all your trouble in creating these videos. I owned the D7000, after going through all the "back and forth" you outlined I had to send it back to Nikon AT MY EXPENSE while in warranty to get the backfocus problem fixed and they did a fine job. I decided to move up to FX and I really liked the D7000 ergonomics and Nikon output. I decided to buy the D600 even AFTER hearing about the oil spots since I thought I'd get lucky and they'd clear up like so many reported that it did. No luck. I sent it back to them while under warranty (at my expense) and all they did was do a cleaning. Since then the spots very gradually came back but only because I wasn't using it anywhere near as much. So I figured I'd just bite the bullet and clean the sensor when needed and consider it a lesson learned about Nikon customer service. Last week I get the e-mail notice from Nikon to send the camera in to replace the shutter mechanism (Nikon heading off the class action suit?). I did (this time they paid for shipping it to them) and in less than 5 days it's on it's way back supposedly with a new shutter. According to the UPS I should get it tomorrow. Frankly, I have little confidence they will have rectified the problem but will keep my fingers crossed. In closing let me say that Nikon is arrogant beyond belief and although I really enjoy using their equipment this experience has left a bitter taste in my mouth. I am not a Canon kind of guy but now I warn anybody that I know who may be considering the purchase of a DSLR for the first time to give Canon a serious look before Nikon. Canon is orders of magnitude superior to Nikon when it comes to customer service. To wit, I had a 5 year out of warranty Canon A80 point'n'shoot whose LCD bellied up on me. It otherwise worked fine. I was looking into sending it to them for repair and while visiting their Web site discovered that they had a recall out on it. They sent me a UPS shipping label AND a box to ship it in, replaced the LCD which had failed and shipped it back within 10 days. It is still working and is now over 10 years old. While Nikon is "saving face" prospective customers are turning their faces to other camera manufacturers. Nikon needs some serious upper management changes because this sort of bilge spills from on high in a company.

    Wow. I've been thinking about upgrading to a full frame D610 for a couple of months, but now I'm wondering if I should just head back to Canon. Canon pissed me off years ago when they changed their lens mount and none of my film lenses could work on their digital slrs. Still, I've not seen any complaints about Canon cameras to the same degree as the most recent Nikons.

    • @gregr1154
      @gregr1154 10 лет назад

      so? Nikon did even worse - they kept the same mount but started ripping out $5 AF motors from their low/mid-range bodies, so now even if your great collection of AF-D lenses fit, they're MF only unless you spend $1200-plus for a body. Canon made a clean line in the sand, so if a lens fits it actually WORKS. also, you can use a Nikon lens on a Canon body, so you're able to keep old Nikkors around. but a Nikon body won't mate with a Canon lens. win goes to Canon.

    I too purchased a refurbished D600 just after Christmas with a high serial number 306XXXX. It had several spots right out of the box. One of them is very large and very dark, tried the blower and have not been able to get rid of it entirely. So I'll be sending this camera in for service. I sold my D300s for this only because it doesn't seem there will ever be a D400, The D300s had almost 30K on the shutter and never had to clean the sensor. I believe I will sign up for the class action just in case.

    I was really considering switching from Canon to Nikon while I upgrade from APS-C to full-frame sensor. Mainly because of Nikon has great sharp FX ultra wide-angle lenses. D600/D610 Nikon and Canon 6D were the top contenders. But after making research about them I found out that D600 has serious issues and D610 was released less than a year after D600 in order to fix them. Then I found out that it's possible to buy refurbished D600 body just for 1300$ and it has all issues fixed. Sounds like a great deal! Not really, as it turned out that there are still high chances that you'll get a lemon for 1300$. Sorry, Nikon, I was really going to buy your camera, but now I'm buying Canon 6D...

    No, they shouldn't reset your shutter count. The rest of the camera has still sustained the wear and tear of those shots regardless of the new shutter mechanism....... Not that you don't have my sympathy for all of the other problems you've had.

    • @gregr1154
      @gregr1154 10 лет назад

      um, the SHUTTER count(er) is for the SHUTTER - which got replaced. so yes, it SHOULD get reset if the shutter was replaced. they shouldn't change the manufacturing date, because that affects the sensor and other parts, but the shutter counter is explicitly for the shutter (by name, by definition), so when the part is replaced so is the counter.

    same problem here...my landscapes are limited to f11 and below unless I want to spend time in lightroom with the spot remover, and even then sometimes its just too much. They did tell me to send the camera in, but I can't find the time between jobs to do so, being afraid I wont get it back in time. It is sad and frustrating and a giant company like that should be able to make it right for the little guy, the supporter...the customer! The real shame is, it is a great camera, I love it. Besides the spot issue obviously...And me too, if I didn't have nikon glass among other lenses with nikon mounts, I would jump ship...

    perhaps in the manufacturing fabrication process of production the image sensor material includes a particle of foreign matter so the production die has distributed a batch run with a substrate stain somewhere in the cycle run ..or something like that. Obviously you have been very upset by the affair, my sympathy to you.

    I am sorry for not checking the Truereview RUclips account. I didn't get a chance to make video #3 yet and happy to be busy enough not to have a moment to sit down. Just a long ordeal with 2 return trips up to 3 weeks each trip out for service. The second time Nikon took care of the issues and it was corrected. Have been using the camera with no oil spots or lock up but have to disclose in my line of work low light weddings, the d600 has been a stumbling block with it's AFS low light capability. It turns out that the d700 or d3 has a better in low light AFS...on the other hand in day light the colors and WB are much richer in the new d600/D610. I would not recommend for anyone to sell a d700 just to convert to a D600 for still images. Yes it is an upgrade in image quality, video and WB but downgrade in low light AFS that is much needed in a professional environment. All the best to you...If you or your friends are ever in the North NJ area look me up www.zealimages.net or Instagram @zealimages and we can plan a photo outing. All the best, Al
