  • Samsung has launched its flagship S95D, midrange S90D & entry-level S85D OLED TV lineup for 2024, but won't seek to communicate which is QD-OLED & which is WOLED in its marketing, so here's a detailed video to help you decide.
    The company also showcased its 8K Neo QLED (flagship QN900D & step-down QN800D) & 4K Neo QLED (QN90D, QN85D, Q70D & Q60D) ranges at an exhibition event in Frankfurt, as well as Micro LED TV & lifestyle displays such as The Frame & The Serif.
    The "Includes Paid Promotion" message in this video refers to the sponsorship by British AV retailer Richer Sounds. If you're interested in getting a new TV, even if it's not a Samsung OLED, please support this channel by considering buying from them. Visit your local Richer Sounds store to get the best deals through cheaper 'VIP exclusive' in-store only prices, or call telesales for your next TV purchase on 0333 900 0093. I find it crazy - people claiming how bright their TVs go , and they watch in a reasonably lit room . That should just be for convenience and stuff like Sports , News , kids cartoons etc ( bright images ) where dark scenes , and infinite contrast don't matter . HDR is mastered for dark room viewing . If you have a TV that can do 0-10 000 Nits - if WILL always have less contrast if watched in a bright room compared to a 0-1000NIts TV watched in a dark room . The lifted blacks will be bad and it's impossible to overcome in a bright room . Would you watch a movie with a vacuum cleaner going? , so why watch on a movie on an expensive TV in UHD HDR in a bright room . If you want a TV for bright room viewing get a kick ass big Mini-LED at 98"

So I think for me a 77" Z93A Panasonic , or a 83 C4, or a Sony A80N 83" would all be great . All have there advantages . all 3 great upscaling . Yes I don't get best BT2020 or MLA+ /QDOLED nit boost , But given I prefer older SDR movies as well and I watch in dark room . All 3 will hit or better the 1000NITS . Larger size will better higher NITS as most common owner's response . Plus still allows a great deal on a 55" in say 3 years as another option that can hit higher volume/NIts. Plus if the TV I buy looks great, that will not change it better TVs come out ( most important point ) , Plus I will build a new PC in 2 or 3 years - that monitor will be fantastic

    That S95D is gonna bomb. Hopefully they have a way to remove that filter. S95C looks so clear and then S95D looks like an lcd from 15 years ago with all the washout.

    • @karlhendrikse
      @karlhendrikse 4 месяца назад +3

      The S95C does not look clear; it has a huge big reflection of the ring light right in the middle. Very distracting. Hard to focus on what you're actually trying to watch. Spreading the same amount of light over a larger area will always be better.
      Of course, what's shown in the video is an extreme case, and there's a much better way to solve it: turn off the damn light. But if that's not possible, spreading out the reflection as much as possible will make it minimally distracting.

Development seemed to have gone mostly in to increasing peak brightness instead of tackling more fundamental issues like near black performance and color uniformity. The matte finish to me mimics that premium projector look where the pixels slightly blend together vs the panel sharpnes on glossy displays. Hey Vincent, kind of off-topic for this video, but I would be so happy if you can answer me. It's about the contrast setting for Xbox Gaming SDR on LG OLED. Ninjician posted somewhere in a forum, that LG Contrast 85 ist extended range, meaning values for 16-255 and LG Contrast 100 is legal range, meaning values from 16-235. My question: why is contrast setting 85 correct for SDR? In the calibration menu within Xbox blacks should not be distinguishable, so the black eye disappears or is not visible with brightness setting 50. But the white sun is clearly visible with contrast 85. It only disappears with contrast 100. So black fades into black and white fades into white. Isn't then contrast 100 correct for SDR, where the source clearly only outputs HDMI Black Level limited range (16-235)? It even looks dimmer and kind of "not enough" when on contrast 85. What is your professional comment to this? :) Thanks a lot in advance and keep up your fantastic humour. *bling* 😅

    So the decision to watching something in a bright room is a washed out hazy picture that is still seeable or a blotting of the picture but keeps the contrast/quality around it. It's like choosing between myopia or central serous retinopathy. Best to just watch it in a dark or dimly lit room to avoid most of these issues. Blinds exist for a reason or just leaving the door ajar that lets in some light which isn't in contact with the screen itself.

    The real thing holding back WOLED from qualifying for VESA's DisplayHDR certifications isn't their full-screen luminance, but their middling color luminance. VESA made it so your combined R+G+B luminance must also exceed the full-screen luminance requirement, which immediately disqualifies WOLED since it relies on the white subpixel. Word is, LG is considering switching to pure RGB for their monitor panels, which could overcome this issue (on top of being much better for text clarity)

    • @JonPais

    • @konga382
      @konga382 4 месяца назад

      @@JonPais How is it a lie? I'm not trolling, just pointing out why monitors using LG panels don't have VESA DisplayHDR certifications. VESA's requirements state that for a full white screen, you need 250 nits of combined R+G+B color luminance to qualify for their HDR400 or True Black 400 certifications, and LG monitors using WOLED panels are incapable of achieving that since they only do 250 nits with the white subpixel.
      It is relevant to the video because Vincent incorrectly stated that WOLED monitors don't get this certification because of low full-screen brightness, but it's actually due to color luminance.

    S95C looks way better than S95D, matte coatings are crap. If you don't like glare, turn off the lights or get bias lighting instead, you'll solve the problem without ruining your blacks and washing out the image. The S90D sounds again like the best option.

    Hello, I have a technical question that unfortunately no one can answer for me. That's why I hope you can do it since you're familiar with it. I have a Sony XH95 TV. If I connect my HW Q900A soundbar to the ps5 and then the soundbar to the TV via EarC, I can play in 1080p with 120fps. However, if I connect my hwq990c the same way, I can only play at a maximum of 60 fps at 1080p resolution. why doesn't it work with hw 990c but with the older hw q900a is does?, hdmi 2.0 shoud be enough for 120fps at full hd. I want to connect the PS5 via the soundbar because when I connect the PS5 directly to the TV and activate earc, I have problems with internal apps and the sound.
