- MSC Rosella leaving Zandvlietlock with about 9 to 10 beaufort. My apologies for the bad sound but my microphone does not like that much wind, and it was also on the wrong setting :(
Well at the least the duck is frolicking , unconcerned about the flurry of activity behind it. 😭 Nice vid!
Wow zie deze nu pas en gaaf weer en vast hard werken voor die sleepboot en koppie erbij voor de bemanning, alle respect wel, weer top video Captain.
For something like this a sock or two over the microphone helps with the wind noise.
Headphone users RIP
There is no gale force mic setting. You’re good. That tug crew sure earned their pay.
No stern tug? That must be a pilot with balls of steel! Either that or there must have been immense pressure from above to clear the lock.
+Leblond987 The stern has the power of the rudder and propeller to steer up against the wind :) This pilot knew what he was doing ;)
Unbelievable !!! Si petit et si fort ces petits remorqueurs !!! 👀👍😎
Congratulations all, a nice feat indeed.
Obviously this was possible because the wind was not blowing sideways or lateral to the ship but head onto the bows which created drag but not side shifting tendency. I see that at first the tug had a shorter hawser so that it could flit from one side to the other to have effective " steering" on the ship as quickly as possible, The high Inertia of the ship assisted a lot in this case and the fact that the anchoring point on the tug was somewhere near its centre of gravity, away from its rudder, made it all possible for the tug boat to steer its rear portion in the nimble manner it did .
When I dealt with such situation on smaller yachts, I preferred to tow with my outboard powered small craft through tying the two bows to each other and then my towing boat with transom on which I had the outboard was leading the show, and I could steer so easily in reverse, with the outboard taking the leading transom hence the rest, to exactly where I wanted it to go. With a tow rope, attached to the transom one cannot tow effectively all under control, unless of course one had a couple of these Voith propellers distributed under the towing craft. enabling it to go sideways and turn on itself. Wonderful engineering these modern tug boats which can move and turn in all directions. Last year with my students we coupled two joysticks one in the front and the other at the back in line with the centre line of the ship and placed a small model ship linking both of them, When the model was moved as desired, ahead, astern, turn port and starboard, these were operating the two joysticks hence the four thrusters on the big ship accordingly in synchronism with the model ship which had another feature, extending in length through an unlocking device, one could operate any of the thrusters individually or together as needed. So one complex ferry could be operated with ONE hand on the model ship moving it as desired with the larger counterpart following suit.
I bet your students can't understand a single word you are saying. What is this vinaigrette of words? "Last year with my students we coupled two joysticks one in the front and the other at the back in line with the centre line of the ship and placed a small model ship linking both of them" So you glued a model ship between joysticks? What the fuck?
Wind is straight at the bow, Zandvliet and Berendrecht Locks are positioned in almost Eastern/Western direction. Not accidentally I assume.
The little engine that could
Bloody heck this video is great.
Nice video, it took only 4 min after the release of the dock lines, tug cap got balls for sure !!!!
Ship is my home...sea is my playground... what a life
Impressive !
Rosella is in reverse to annoy the thugboat.
Thugboat!! Sounds good to me!!
Nice video!
The duck (or sea bird of some sort) having a surf/bob-about at around 4:30 is pretty funny (just low of centre-left).
I think duck got sea sick 🤣
good stuff, good tug handling
Nice video, but I dont think the wind is 9-10 Beaufort. The ship wouldn't leave the port. Looks more 35-40 knots...
Amazing video
Power and skill of TUG
It is MSC Rossella.
And there I was thinking ship simulator got the tug all wrong. This has changed my mind. Tugs are all over the place pulling a heavy load from the bow.
Became tug captain you have to have big balll guys!!
My left ear enjoyed this
Buen trabajo, gente de mar...(gracias "filmero" abrazo.)
That poor tug, and the "Rosella" wasn't even fully loaded!!!!!
if its not fully loaded its close lmao
wind is holding the tow back
@@xalr6128 Nah, not close at all. Look at all the empty sections and the part filled ones. It looks 60% full.
@@stuarth43 no shit stuart!
What would be the depth under the keel through there??
10% of draft or 1.5 m whichever is greater, pretty standard rules for most ports .
great fim well done..
I love those voith tugs
Too windy for the drone? :)
I'm already scared to use my drone at 5 beaufort. At 9 or 10 I'll probably never see it again ;)
Hard work!
The little tug that could. I think I read the bio to my kids when they were little .
Is the ship named after the Rossella parrot?
Por que está tan turbulenta el agua ?? Por el barco o por el viento???
Un trabajo fino.
Nice
Looks more like a 7 or 8 rather than a 9 on the Beaufort scale.
Action starts at 2:39 of 6+ min video. Good job.
Schitterend!
Thanks !
Mega operação.
Good job🖒🖒🖒
keren banget kapalnya
little ones are forced to work )))
How this small boat can pull that large fully loaded ship ? Can anyone explain
That is a tugboat sir ;) It has 7500 horsepower.
@@ShippingHarbors dont those tugs have about a 6' or 8' propeller?
gaaf :)
vandaag gaan biken, was stevig langs het kanaal :)
popeye :-)
Tom Van Minnebruggen was wel langs kanaal Schoten Dessel ;)
I bet that warmed her up some lol
weren 't you afraid that your camera would get hit by salted water, waves and all ?
Yeah I was. But it was filmed with a gopro in a skeleton casing so it was a bit protected ;-)
HEADPHONES WARNING!!!!!!!!!
Furious water 🙄😬
Er mocht nog wel een bij voor.
Looks like Antwerp
Honestly thought it was a meme cause of that fucking ear rape
Dangerous with one tug,but verry amazing.
And for the guy filming.....stop eating bruine bonen.
i know ,this asd tug made in damen holandia
leuk mooi
And your point is?
Or.....not🙄
Is this Europoort?
No, Zandvlietlock is in Antwerp, Belgium. Europort is part of the Port of Rotterdam (Nederland).
Rotterdam / Europoort has no locks.
@@HugeRademaker why?
paulkazjack Why? I do not know. Maybe because ships can go in and out faster? There are just not locks.
@@HugeRademaker what ship was you on?
It doesnt look that bad from here
The concrete is hardly wet
Leaving the DOCK
Venkatesh Prasad a LOCK & a DOCK are two different things mate
Zubair Khan
Dude on the tub stand on it to see how much you can out of it before you send part's to the moon. Go big or go home. 😋😇🤗😁😉😊😏🙂☺🤗☺️
Tugs are designed to be pushed hard. Lots of torque and big engines. Plus tractor tugs help (tractor drives) he wasn’t pushing that hard
With a little help from the ships motor all can happen
I use a device called " wind cutter " works great
go to hueyvets.com
+John Dubpernell I didn't see your message untill now. Do you mean a "deadcat" ? That was on my microphone, but the wind was too much for it.
Yea similar device....Windcutter that I use might work a little better...Just my opinion..
I use it filming around Huey Helicopter ....All the Best....www.hueyvets.com
Nice video, horrible sound.
🤣🤣🤣🤣..."Rosella".....illiterate....
I hate this sounds!!!
Insufficient bollard pull of tugboat.
A smarter tug captain would have putout more tow line
DOUG FERGUSON less is the side room has the tug, shorter must be the line. This is because if the tug has to move the ship’s bow left or right with a short line doesn’t need room
@@fabriziocamera4990 lol you cant control it that close in high wind. 75 more feet then you have full control. Im a boat captain and know how a hull acts under short tow lines. See him going back and forth? thats the lack of control in high wind.
DOUG FERGUSON ok Doug. If you’re a captain for sure have more skill than me about it. Thanx for your reply.
From a tug skipper who works ports and locks, looks to me he was giving weight to stb to clear of the locks. 😂
