No music, no commentary, just the sounds of the engines and the sights of the ships, the tug, and the sea. The skill of everyone involved, especially the pilots, is tremendous.I subscribed to this wonderful channel long ago. The great poet Walt Whitman would write eloquently about these modern operations today.
Well orchestrated, thanks for sharing. It is definitely a skillset in using several tugs to maneuver a ship in a limited about of area space. Looking forward to more. BP
Really interesting video. Great to watch. I think tugs are amazing! Just so manoeuvrable, but that is down to whoever is at the controls. Great skill. I retired from the UK rail industry in December 2018 after 41 years, but if I hadn’t gone on the railway, I would have liked to work on tugs. Great job, Skipper!
Stimpy&Ren This tug is a Voith Schneider Water Tractor, so has two propulsion units under the hull, probably roughly in line with the wheelhouse, which have cycloidal blades which can all turn independently, thus giving the tug the ability to stop, go astern or go left or right instantly, as the tug skipper requires - these are controlled via a wheel. Azipods are usually fitted to cruise ships, these are self-contained propulsion units with a controllable pitch propellor within a nozzle / duct, which aids drive the ship in the direction required. The tug equivalent is an Azimuthing Drive, which can be fitted in a similar position to the Voith drive or be placed at the stern of the tug, in place of conventional shafts / prop / rudder or Kort Nozzle. Both systems for tug propulsion have their place, a lot depends on what the tug will be doing (harbour towage, escort, indirect and direct towing), where it will be working (depth or draught available in sea and river channels and berths) together with the designers view on how effective each system is for their tug design. Sorry for my long explanation, but it is a big subject!
I've got a fascination with the sound of large tug engines spooling up and the sound of those big diesels humming away , suggestions for vids like that are always welcome to this addict thanks
that same fascination is mine as well, so much so i pursued it and have operated heavy equipment for 7 years now. i love it. cold starting caterpillar engines in Alberta :)
If you have trouble sleeping or getting to sleep then put headphones in and play one of these, I use them about 3 tines a week, they are fascinating to watch and the low rumble is so relaxing 👌
Well done captain.. I would have stowed more things off the deck like mops, buckets and equipment.. But that was a masterful touch nice job! You can tell you have done this a time or two.. Thanks See you on the one!
No problem with the "before start" part. Maybe a little shaky, but very lively and useful to get a whole image of the tug, its dimensions, etc The soundtrack is great. Thanks for sharing
+Angus Hudson We are only with a crew of 3 on board. The captain is controlling the tug, the 'mate' is doing daily maintenance in the living area of the tug, or relieves the captain (when the mate is training for captain for example). The engineer is watching the engine status, and when something goes wrong he needs to take quick action to solve the problem.
ShippingHarbors perfect little team. Must be great working in such a small team in nice weather. I bet it can get a bit scary in harsh rough conditions though.
how about explaining what are your doing? or what are the maneuvers that you are performing? just to understand a little bit more for all of us who are not dedicated to this kind of job? i work in ports but i am an administrative, so i'm interested in learning
+Rafael Castro Good idea ! I'm planning on buying a 2nd gopro camera to film the controls of the tug together with the view on the outside. Then synchronize the videos so you can see the controls and outside view at the same time. I allready have such a video, but the controls were filmed with a DSLR camera which is very difficult to install in the wheelhouse :D
Great to be a fly on your shoulder and watch you work.I wish more who have interesting jobs would do it.Your fueling and casting off was great. Some commentary would have been nice.
nanba25 The exhausts (and superstructure) are shaped so that when the tug is working tight under a ships bow, her superstructure and exhausts are clear of the ships hull. These Antwerp tugs are quite old, so if you want to see how this clearance is achieved on a more modern tug, check out some Damen tug designs (products.damen.com/en/clusters/harbour-tugs).
Hi there , there is possibility for you to send me audio recordings of maneuverings for training purposses for ASD masters with spanish native speaking to understand the orders between pilot and tug master in english. would be very appreciated
Put the camera down when handling lines for casting off. The boat and your job comes first. And when casting off the bow line take the eye off the bitt and take in the line through the bollard. There is no reason to go back onto the dock to toss it off. Too hands for the boat... damn cameras gonna get somebody killed

no irritating commentaries, no stupid musics just those engines together with those smooth maneuvers, are enough to make me relax...

I really love video clips "a Capella" , no music or superfluo speaking , thanks for this nice job, well done
Completely off topic and relevant. Those exhausts are a work of art!
I am glad someone else noticed that. Maybe I not as crazy as I thought.
They are exactly what drew my attention to this video.
Just watching again and just notices there are 3 smaller ones below the main ones too.
no music just true sea sounds and diesel humming. Heres my like

@@laundrieshanging9077 caterpillar and Cummins, best marine engines
Watch vids on the t56 and t26 torpedo boats. 3x 2,000 HP Diesel engines, and loudest spooling turbos you’ve ever heard.
Thanks much for sharing. Most interesting to watch the whole ship handling process.
it was nice to hear the radio talks between the pilot and the tug
Does anyone else find this very relaxing ? Is it the size of the ships ? The slowness on it's movements ? All the water around it ?
JIGA BACHI I sleep while playing this
I agree. I nap with things like this playing.
I agree very relaxing the sound of the water and the sound of the Diesel engine i fall asleep myself watching these videos
hypnotic diesel throb
Everyone but the Tugboat Captain......

Very relaxing and enjoyable video. And job well done, to all involved! :)
Badass video! It’s really cool too see it from the deckhands POV than from afar!
Belle manœuvre! Merci pour tout!!!!
Brings memories back from my tug days!
No problem with the "before start" part. Maybe a little shaky, but very lively and useful to get a whole image of the tug, its dimensions, etc The soundtrack is great. Thanks for sharing
Love the little exhaust pipes, bent like their dad.
wat
Yea it was a cool design and it whont rain in to them easily either.
Thank you for the music.
Hi I like the way that the GOG strap problem has been sorted out to stop the tug being Girted when going Astern good idea.
What do the guys on the deck do when the tug is attached to a vessel and on the move?
Which guys do you mean? The ones on the tug, or on the containervessel?
Sorry I should have been more specific. The guys on the tug

Ah ok thankyou.

Yet again a great vid! When can I come and visit?
Haha i'm afraid that is impossible due to safety regulations ;-)
Oh I know. Just your lob looks really interesting since you are outside allot and around ships.
original video.
thank you for uploading

I like the camera angle!
hi who operates the winch deck hand or the captain .
Curious about the two "smoke stacks" on either side of the frame?. I'm probably way off base.
On the tug itself?
@@xeels2708 Yea the 2 large ones, then theres another set of 2 smaller ones inboard
What is the reason for these strange shapes of both engine exhausts ? some kind of pink flamingo inspiration ?

Those tugboats are really quick!
I never though about this before, How well do ships rudders work when the ship is going backwards?
+Coolkeys2009 Look up a Voith Schneider propeller. That's what a lot of tugs use.
Which one has more power Tugboat or Diesel Locomotive ?
Can you show us the steering wheel and the surface of the bridge or pilot house?
great video capt😘
What port is this from?
every time i see a big prop like that start up reminds me of Indiana Jones and the last crusade
What engines are in her?
Nice tug great views
Do the tugs have emergency slackening on the winches?
+Ridgesmaster1 Yes, there is a 'Let Go' button that will release the brakes
But you always work at dusk ?
How many hp and wich engine kind

+Shipping/Harbors Yeah but ... How many hp does she have ? Is it a 7200 hp tug ? A 5500 hp tug ? An other tug ? :)
This is 5500hp :)
