- In this episode, I go aboard the ‘Bretagne’ tugboat and stay with the crew while it manoeuvres in the port of Lorient.
This time it’s towing the “Skuteviken” oil tanker into port, swinging and mooring it, using a towline fastened to its rear axle.
With thanks to the crew members:

As a retired tug man of 32 years performing sea and river work I can equate to this film.one has to appreciate that the hull space below the water line is mostly machinery space, making the job possible.
Just lovely to watch from all points of view. The story, then actions of people, camera work and editing. A lovely story of the day to day work of the tug and crew. Well made all round.
Great video! I really liked the captions explaining everything the engineer was doing starting up all the equipment.

Merci Zencrise !
Complimenti è sempre affascinante vedere certi mezzi. Grazie
Grazie Giuseppe.
Very lovely to watch this complicated operations. Well made
You have a lot of responsibility there, getting things ready for that boat to go. Pretty awesome to watch. Thank you from southern Alberta Canada
Hi Kevin, you're right, in order the mission to be well accomplished, there are a lot of people involved: the crew on the tug, the crew on the tanker, the crew on the pier and the crew of the harbor administration. There are all great pro and I thank them for having let me film all the process. See you 🇨🇦 !
Vraiment fascinant. Remarquable vidéo, BRAVO
Magnifique travail ! Merci beaucoup !!
Fantastic filmmaking - many thanks for posting! 👍👍👍👍
Many thanks for watching !

Merci Lynda !
@@AKTINESfilms how can i have a chance to join as cadet engineer
Hi Moses, I'm a filmmaker so I can't answer your question. I advise you to meet the crew of a tugboat and ask them the best way to reach your goal.
felicitations ! tugboats are the friends of every ship and they hug and carry every ship in the port place . Thanks for real video .
Thank you Pierpaolo, you're welcome.
Je découvre la chaîne avec ce reportage. C’est une merveille, bravo !
Bienvenue Ka Ji

The last thing I EVER expected to see -- a clock with the SPs marked at 9:10!
And the one-second auto alarm triggers, too!
Good job brother,,full ahead 😁
Roger ! 👍
great video thank you
Merci. Well done! 👉👊. Noticed the old nazi U-boat pens in the background when you departed the dock, knew instantly where you were located. Thanks for sharing.
Let’s start from last step on this maneuver.
When the tug boat coming to push ship from port quarter..!
As my experience we can use the tug boat to bull or push the ship from port quarter if made fast short line.
But if the tug boat made fast from center aft finally need to cast off line to change position as a pusher.
Bonjour de Russie. Je travaile au chantier naval. Votre vidéo est très interéssant pour moi...
Bon courage tout le monde...

A well maintained ship means a high quality crew. That engine room is cleaner than most peoples kitchens. Well done

So good video !! Thank you for sharing !! Congrats !!

i always thought tugs had old tires around the perimeter. this thing is just classy with it's solution to the problem.
For Safety reason. Without tires still it moves. Called Popeye's boat, small but Strong & Powerful.
This is a ship docking tug. It doesn't push much and probably doesn't move barges very often if at all. Tires (they use non-steel belted tires...usually old airplane tires so there's not steel wires sticking out to hang up on things). Tires are superior for barge work since they offer a softer landing when coming up to push a barge. Tugs that move/push/tow heavy barges (like gravel, rock, coal and sand and such) tend to have "cheak" rubber at and below the waterline on the shoulder of the tug. That's because when loaded a heavy barge may only be 1 foot above the water, and the hard shearline of the barge can do a lot of damage to the hull of the tug. Most tugs will also have tires on the bulwarks (the flat area above the deck) to protect from rakes of a barge or ship.
Tires can be used whole bolted/chained to the side flat against the bulwarks or hull. Or they can be cut and folded and smooshed together like an accordion. This will be mostly around the bow and back to the shoulder. The folded tires grab really good and not only protect the tug providing a cushion, but they also provide grip when pushing a barge so you can slide a barge one way or another when lining up against the dock/terminal.
It looks like the tug in the video is a Damen tug (Netherlands based, but they build all around the world). One of the tugs I skipper is a Damen. I also skipper other "west coast" tugs here in BC.
Thank you Chris for your accurate comment 👌
Kapal tunda, mantap kakak
I like it so much. Let's put the picture down. Let's see.

Supreme irony - the onshore guys with all the headspace in the world wear protective helmets, whereas the onboard engineer, having to stoop frequently to avoid head contact with steel, wears nothing but ear muffs.
Suberb 👍
Liked 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Terima kasih !
My boat's 5hp engine once stalled and i had to row back almost 30yards to have it fixed.
I know all about this stuff.
They should call me if they need a captain
🌊😔 safety first all crew
Gostei de ver.
Thanks
You're welcome !
Belo trabalho
Obrigada !
The tanker went up and down in the water a lot.
Incroyable !
What else do the engineer do in the tugboat?
Visite Campos Dos Goytacazes RJ Brasil.
👍🍻
Great footage! Love the captioning. Music was absolutely horrible and didn’t fit any of it… so depressing.
Odd how the freeboard of the tanker changes from shot to shot...
That is amazing big bathtub toys how they operate
Yep that's for big boys !
02:20 The preheating is for the Oil, the Water, the Fuel, or all three?
for all with no exeptions (pour tous sans exceptions)
