    Whoever chose the music for this video thought about it. That ending, with the tug sailing away, scared the hell out of me. I hope they come back safe. Great stuff. Thank you.

    As a retired tug man of 32 years performing sea and river work I can equate to this film.one has to appreciate that the hull space below the water line is mostly machinery space,making the job possible.

      I think of tugs as a hull, a couple of engines and propellers, and some winches. Human beings just have to squeeze themselves in somewhere.

There are all great pro and I thank them for having let me film all the process. See you 🇨🇦 !

    çà doit balancer une purée pas possible. Quelle puissance de ces moteurs ?
    En plus ? çà, c'est une machine !!! Pas une goutte d'huile par-terre ou sur les porte de carter . Bravo les gars . Beautiful imagery & good storytelling! You need to leave the captioning up longer; I had to back the video up several times to read the captions. This is often the case when the editor/captioner is too familiar with the subject matter. If you're intimately familiar with the subject matter, leave the captions up 4 times as long as you think they need to be up on first viewing a scene.

    Let’s start from last step on this maneuver.
    When the tug boat coming to push ship from port quarter..!
    As my experience we can use the tug boat to bull or push the ship from port quarter if made fast short line.
    But if the tug boat made fast from center aft finally need to cast off line to change position as a pusher.

    • @ahinalu1
      @ahinalu1 2 года назад +4

      This is a ship docking tug. It doesn't push much and probably doesn't move barges very often if at all. Tires (they use non-steel belted tires...usually old airplane tires so there's not steel wires sticking out to hang up on things). Tires are superior for barge work since they offer a softer landing when coming up to push a barge. Tugs that move/push/tow heavy barges (like gravel, rock, coal and sand and such) tend to have "cheak" rubber at and below the waterline on the shoulder of the tug. That's because when loaded a heavy barge may only be 1 foot above the water, and the hard shearline of the barge can do a lot of damage to the hull of the tug. Most tugs will also have tires on the bulwarks (the flat area above the deck) to protect from rakes of a barge or ship.
      Tires can be used whole bolted/chained to the side flat against the bulwarks or hull. Or they can be cut and folded and smooshed together like an accordion. This will be mostly around the bow and back to the shoulder. The folded tires grab really good and not only protect the tug providing a cushion, but they also provide grip when pushing a barge so you can slide a barge one way or another when lining up against the dock/terminal.
      It looks like the tug in the video is a Damen tug (Netherlands based, but they build all around the world). One of the tugs I skipper is a Damen. I also skipper other "west coast" tugs here in BC.
