  • NMN and NR are both NAD boosters...so which is better? In this video I will discuss the difference between NAD, NMN and NR, explaining how they work to increase lifespan and improve your overall health.

NAD stands Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide and its important in your mitochondria, helping you convert food into energy. NAD is also important for maintaining your DNA to protect you from ageing and disease. Unfortunately, your levels of NAD naturally decline as you get older
Nicotinamide MonoNucleotide (NMN) is a precursor of NAD, & Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) is a precursor of NMN
You can take both NMN and NR orally and they both move into your bloodstream and get taken up into all of your cells.
NR is nice and small, so it gets taken up into your cells via a transporter, but NMN is medium sized and sometimes it can be taken up your cells...but sometimes it needs to be broken down into NR before it can move into your cells.
ANYWAY, once it’s in the cell, NR turns into NMN, NMN turns into NAD, and NAD works to make more energy and it also activates sirtuins, which slow down the ageing process.
Studies have shown that Yeast strains can live 30% longer when given NR, and mice have been shown to live 9% longer when given NR. Those mice also had more energy, less inflammation, and were generally healthier than the mice that didn’t receive NR

    NMN & NR research summary
    blog.insidetracker.com/nr-nmn...
Similar studies with similar results have been seen with NMN. In terms of humans, there hasn’t been a lot of research yet. All we know is that taking 250-500mg of either NR or NMN orally will greatly increase your NAD levels.
The main difference between NMN and NR is the size. Because NR is smaller, it is cheaper to make in a laboratory so it’s probably cheaper to purchase.

Great explanation. Is there any proof that NMN can actually enter a cell without converting to NR? I think r. Sinclair had to back down on that claim. I take NR. It cleared up my psoriasis and I no longer feel stiff in the morning. Friends and family have benefitted too regarding peripheral neuropathy, restless leg syndrome, and lupus. I even give some to my 12 year old dog, who is doing great.

Well considering NMN is NR + a phosphate molecule I have no idea where you got the notion that NMN comes before NR in the pathway of producing NAD in a cell.

WOW I've been researching these supplements and finally I understand the difference. Thank you for explaining it so clearly. Do we need to take TMG or resversatrol or other supplements with either NR or NMN?? Which one is better for a 48 year old female to take that is on hormone replacement therapy estradiol patch, progesterone and testosterone gel.. also low dose of levothyroxine for hypothyroidism. Ty.

Thank you for your scientific review. I personally tried both. NR is much more effective for me for the same dosage probably because of its smaller molecular size.

If NR is converted to NMN which is converted to NAD, what is also needed for conversion? Obviously if we are short on that there will be no conversion. What else is needed to ensure we have what we need?

    • @jeffgilligan2004
      @jeffgilligan2004 Год назад

I have read that the efficiency of the process is influenced by our gut bacteria. I am not sure what to do regarding that - eat whole grains? eat yogurt with a variety of healthful bacteria? I do know that NR has helped me and friends and family. We also should try to regulate the glycol-protein CD38. That is done by eating various herbs and vegetables. CD38 inhibits NAD production and uses it up.

You didn't mention the missing phosphate molecule of NR. Once it is in the cell, won't it need the phosphate to convert to NMN? Would it deplete the phosphate in bones to get the phosphate?

    • @tango_gru

I had the same question after watching Dr Sinclairs video , doesnt it depend upon the fact if your body is running low on Phosphate ??? A normal Human should be fine just with NR and may be keep alternating between NR and NMN. 2 Months of NR and 1 month of NMN.
