This video is 5 years old now and it totally changed my training for the better since then. Someone asked me what "WW" means at the start of my lift days in my notebook... Wenning Warmup!
These types of warm-ups have been a game changer for myself and my clients.
My two favorites choices:
Upper Body Day
Pushup Variation x25
Band Pushdown x25
Band Pulldown x25
Lower Body Day
BW 45 Degree Back Extension x25
BW Box Squat x25
Light Reverse Hyper x25
I've got a home gym with dumbbells, rack, bench etc. No 45 degree or reverse hyper, what 3 exercises could I use to warmup lower body? Thanks
@@TaskForceCP If you have some EFS Band you can try this:
A. Seated Banded Leg Curl x 25
B. BW Squat x 25
C. Band Goodmorning x 25
@@ironhillstraining3572 thanks very much! I'm already doing the upper body warmup

I kept hearing about these “100 tricep push down before benching” on other Wenning videos and thought Matt must be crazy or I didn’t hear right. Glad I saw this video, now I see it makes a lot of sense. Great info Matt many thanks.
Please share these videos ! So many ppl need this advice
@@WenningStrength your channel is underrated. Watched few vids and I'm blown away
This video has me jacked...can't wait til 3am tomorrow. At 59 I been thinking about gains with out injuries...I think this is the ticket.

I've lifted weights for years and have read and practiced in almost every program/method possible. I can say that your methods are refreshing and on-point. Thanks!
Sir..this info is pure gold..thank you for sharing this with us.
Yes, thank you Matt. Outstanding coaching.
i cant like becouse it has 69 likes sry
Thanks all. Remember, the more attention we can get on this RUclips channel the more free info we can give out.
I added Wenning Warm-ups about six months ago, initially adding two cycles, waiting for my main lifts to go back up and then six weeks ago adding a third cycle. All but my bench have gone up and my bench is back on its way. Fitness and recovery have all improved and I feel less injury prone as a 45 year old lifter.
Told ya so!!! :)))
Nobody comes close to Matt with his complete comprehensive knowledge and ability to teach fitness for health. Thank you Matt
Thanks we sure try!!!! Please share the content and help us grow the channel
Excellent tip from Matt. With Wenning Warmups, you can kind of "sneak" a lot of volume into your program that puts more muscle on you, and addresses weaknesses. I do the band leg curls as warmups and my 30 year history of hamstring cramps came to an end, at age 65 !!! Thanks Matt!!!
💪💪💪💪
Dear god this is a brutal warm up. But that's proof my weak ass needs to do this kind of warm up from now on
How are you doing it?
@@GForceIntel he's doing it exactly how he's supposed to be doing it. The point is for to kick your butt so that next time you do it kicks your butt a little less and then the next time even a little lesser. This is not the type of thing that immediately transfers over to new PR. It's the type of training method that allows for progress in the healthiest way with the most potential
started doing following Matt during the first covid shut down and my max went from 295 to 335. with limited weight up to 255. Bands and chains 🐐
💪💪💪💪💪
I have always been a "fuck warmups lets lift heavy sh*t" type of guy but after trying high rep warmups for my last few training sessions and I have to say I am a believer! Thanks for all your knowledge and advice Matt this channel is a blessing

super rare and valuable advice Man. i'm not a fan of big warmumps just for the "safety" purposes but for strength this definitely is a gamechanger... Wish I would trust this method more back in a couple of years ago
💪💪💪💪💪
I really like what you just talked about... The GPP being the driving force and limiter to high end power out put especially I meet style setting where a Max is sought after in all the big lifts💪 Get your head in the game or the game will play you

Wenning warmups work. Really get you prepared and ready to lift.
🏅🏅🏅
It’s funny because the pre fatigue warmup seems counterintuitive, but it always gets your muscles ready. My track coach would have me breathing heavy before real practice even started just from the intensity of the warmup but I was always ready to get on the runway and jump
Yup it’s funny how the exact opposite of what you think can sometimes be the best way
I do ( flat db bench - cable row - overhead tri - facepulls --- incline db bench - lat pulldown - tricep ext - bicep curl ) 2 rounds of this. Changing it a little to other angles makes it feel easier. You are warming up - not battleing fatigue

12-14 minutes. Potentiate and focus on weak point area (!), 4 x 25 three movements, builds gpp base
💯💯💯
I had come to this conclusion by myself around mid summer last year due to nagging pains and injury. I couldnt do any heavy presses because of pain in my rear delt/rotator cuff area. I've since programmed this style of warmup around all of my workouts. Good stuff!
How does your shoulder feel now man?
@@FlowPhase1 It's about as close to 100% as I think it will get. Yesterday I did 5x20 on all laterals and then worked up to the 75's for 10. Felt great.

Asked a question about breakdown on Wenning warm-ups for Dave Tates table talk with Matt, and I have to apologize for asking a stupid-esque question because like Matt said, it's most likely already on Wenning Strengths channel, so sorry about that and thanks for all the content!

Game Changer right here as I started this exact style of warm ups on my bench press day!! Thanks again Matt we appreciate how you break it all down & show the movements as well. Ty Sir 💪🏼💯🏋🏻♀️🤜🏼💥🤛🏼
Thanks please share!!!
I feel like I'd be a bit burnt out doing this before benching but you're the pro so I'm going to go for it. Thank you for the great channel and tips. I'm definitely going to get your bench press program.
💯💯💯
how did it go?
@@DuckSau2e I would recommend this warm up 100%. I was surprised and amazed at how prepared I felt to bench. Having a pumped upper back gives you that much more of a stable base to press off of. My numbers went up too which proves Matt knows exactly what he's talking about.
@@abbottfriar5682 thanks for the reply. you did exactly what he said in the video?
@@DuckSau2e Basically. I did 4sets of light lat pulldowns (around 30-35lbs) for 25 reps super set with tricep pushdowns using the same lat pulldown machine (15 lbs) for 25 reps and used a 10 lb dumbbell for 25 reps of standing shoulder press (one arm at a time). Repeat those 3 exercises back to back for 4 sets and you're plenty warmed up. I then only did 2 light warm ups on flat bench (95lbs x 8, 115 x 8). I'm not much of a bencher but I was able to go from just one set of 225 for barely 2 reps to 4 sets of 3.
Day 1 starting the Wenning warmups with the ideal Upper bench press routine.
I was able to do the back exercises just fine but the chest is a struggle after the warmups but after 3 months I will see where I am
DUDE. It's unreal I just hit a 405 dealift when I was stuck at 315 for months. Just started this year to focus on deadlift and I'm trying to get to 600lbs. In less than a month you've helped my deadlift so I'm going to follow that patreon Thank you for the valuable information

@@WenningStrength I did this warmup and it took me 25 minutes as well as I lost 45 lbs on what I normally bench.. Definitely fatigued the muscles.. should I keep doing the exercises and I'll eventually adapt? I don't ever do that high of reps..I've always started workout with small warmup then right to biggest lift of the day.
Fantastic info. Just wish I wasnt at a commercial gym, and had time to do this. I already get people staring at me, as I spend time doing strength program with 5+ mins between sets...
michael moore I feel ya man, but plenty of our guys manage to make it work in commercial gyms.
Love this. When I film my sets of the big 3, I always fail from being winded rather than the weight being too heavy. Gonna implement this to improve my fitness.

Great video! Definitely gonna take this advice.
Are you gonna do a video on squat and deadlift warmups?
Matt Wenning has given you a simple and effective set of principles to follow. You can apply them to the lower body, guided by other Wenning Strength videos and your knowledge.
My guess would be hamstring/upper back/goblet squat

Love it. So simple.

@@WenningStrength I must have heard you years ago on a podcast and made my own warmup. Years later heard you again on Dave Tate’s table talk and found your channel here. Loving your videos mate.
Please do a warm up video for the lower body super shizzle.
im guessing you do hamstrings and a squat for high reps
hamstrings, abs and then either a hip hinge or squat movement depending on what you're doing for your first movement

Please elaborate on triceps being the primary mover in the bench press. The pecs are big kick ass muscles that are primarily fast twitch but of course triceps lock out the weight. Longer-armed people have to rely on delts and pecs more. Although, I think triceps are typically involved far more in pressing than biceps are in pulling.

Can you give any tips or workout plans for the person with a home gym and minimal equipment except for a rack, DB’s, and barbells/plates?
