The Rubber block for cleaning you paper/belts is a must have! 4 years later and I still have about 3 inches left. 🇨🇦 Edit: That kinda came out wrong lol..
I use the hemostat pliers/clamps for holding coins when I make them into rings while removing the temper. I am always looking for a stain or resin applicator rag that won't come off on the wood, the pads sound awesome!!
Always appreciate the DIY angle to your suggested tool segments. Too often the other channels just push the expensive tools. Thanks for keeping it real!
@@MatthewPeechWoodworking Mat, I was a fireman for 21 years at Penn State and I used a set of trauma shears to cut a window out of a rollover car accident one afternoon. It happened right in front of me and I needed to get into the driver ASAP. The FD was probably 10 minutes out. I secured the vehicle by 'cribbing' the posts and corners and then punched a starter hole with my car's lug wrench and then cut the window out. They can cut a lot of shit.
Okay, so now I have to add a few things to my wish list. Trama sheers & hemostats are oddly enough in my odd tools bin, bar magnets I got several years ago from Harbor Frieght, i think they carry the sheers & hemostats too. I don't just use my bar magnet for organizing my tools on the garage but also for my jewelry tools. Several years back, I carved out piece of wood & glued a bar magnet in for a mounted knife holder for my Momma. Oh dang! Note to self, make some mountable knife holders. I'd say since I don't do RUclips videos, you should add that to another smalls video. Lol The hook magnets you can order from Temu, they have them capable of holding from like 5 to over 100 pounds. They usually arrive about 2 weeks after you order and shipping is free. Man, now im thinking of a sheet of metal with some heavy duty magnets for even more tool organization. 😂
I had a hvac shop cut me sheet metal to fit inside my cabinet doors in my kitchen next to my stove. I then got stainless steel containers with magnets on the bottom to attach to the door for spices. The same thing would work great for organizing bits and connectors. The ones I got were about an inch and a quarter deep and three inches in diameter with a clear window in the lid
I appreciate your ytv’s . BTW , the 3-4 picket planters are selling for $ 50 ea or 2 for $ 90 in the St. Louis Mo areas . Nice rewards ,thanks to you !
I have a hemostat with my business card slitter at work - it can get into the small spaces when I get paper jammed in the rollers . Grips the paper nicely!! Next trip into town, I'm going to look for the bar magnets!!
Yup, I have a tool drawer labeled “odd tools”. Also have large mirrors mounted on the wall behind my work bench. When working on projects it helps to see for lining up or squaring etc..when my hands are busy holding the side I’m on. Cheap mirrors from a garage sale for example. Tks Matt.
Great ideas and I'm definitely getting a set of the trauma scissors for my main first aid kit and another set for shop use. I had a dried-up tube of clear silicone in a caulk tube, so on a whim I cut the tube open and tried it on my oscillating spindle sander. It cleaned the sawdust off about as well as the dedicated cleaning stick I had been using, so instead of throwing it in the landfill it found a useful purpose.
Glue a magnet like the ones with the hooks on them, to the bottom of your red beans or just one and it will hold any small screws or set screws you don’t want to lose. Dewalt makes some but they want like 25.00 ea for them. Keep up the good work man I love all your videos!!!
Matt, have you got anything on a rolling lumber cart, to handle up to full sheets of plywood, and also various offcuts of SPF and hardwoods? I wasn’t too excited about the ones I’ve looked up, thought it couldn’t hurt to ask you and perhaps give you an idea for a video.
As a ER nurse for MANY years I have so many pairs of Trauma scissors Ive lost count , not to mention hemostats and needle drivers that I use from sewing to getting a fish hook out of a fish mouth. LOL
Excellent! These tool vids are great, just like all of your stuff. - Amateur tip: I use small diameter heat shrink tubing on the hemostat jaws for delicate work. Prevents the splines from scratching the work, would protect those fuel lines as well I think. Keep up the positivity Matthew, wen really appreciate your work!!!
I like to use the "magic eraser" type sponges from the dollar store for applying stain and dyes. You get a pack of four for a buck, and I cut each one into two to four pieces. They work really well for dyes.
Decent trauma shears will cut a penny in half. They are incredibly versatile cutting tools. I keep straight and curved hemostats all over the house. Perfect size and grip for multiple tasks. The staining pads looks fantastic. I have 12/13 stair treads and risers to stain next weekend. Those are going in the cart. 👍
hey those plastic packages you said are hard to get into , if you squeeze the sides its meant to open enough in the back to pull it completely open . i had no idea till i seen some tiktok compilation posted on facebook.
A few years back I was looking for a way to organize my screwdrivers in my roll away, I came across a channel from a guy in Canada and he was using the magnetic bars to hold his in place, now I've got them holding all my screwdrivers, wrenches, ratchets, extensions, pliers you name it. I need more tools. ;-)
Those trauma shears look awesome! No more having to get my good, expensive fabric scissors resharpened after cutting a bunch of vinyl mesh for sling chairs and awnings! Yay!
Hey, there I was wanting to find out how did you come about your logo? I have been meaning to ask you about this for some time and you may have already explained that but I didn't see it yet. So if you wouldn't mind letting me know if you would please. Thank you very much I always enjoy your videos!
Not sure if you've mentioned it before, but i keep a set of old dental picks in my shop. They work great for scraping small crevices, getting small items out of small places etc. Just the other day i used one to clean out the water hook up on my mower deck (used to clean the underside of your mower deck). Grass and small debris was clogging it, dental pick for the easy clean out
That’s really cool to see the medical tools. I’m an ER nurse of 15 years myself and trying to get a side gig going. I have two or three pairs of trauma shears in my shop along with hemostats, and various other items that come in handy from time to time.
The 3 pieces in the background would you ever sell them? I absolutely love the drawers that are torn into. I'm sure I couldn't afford it and don't know what I would do with it that don't stop me from loving it.
Seriously! I look at it during every video. I'm new to this channel and always wondered what the back story is with the pieces. There's got to be videos in here on them.
I have kept a set of HF "trauma shears", to be fair that not what HF called them, in my vehicles for years incase I ever need to cut a seatbelt, mine of someone else's.

Question…in the past 2 weeks I’ve put together a decent group of tools to start a little shop, which is the plan. I already had a few things like, table top belt sander, small band saw, circular saw, and a Ryobi sander, in the past week I’ve bought a table saw, 20volt Brad nailer , 20 volt circular saw, 20 volt drill, & a 20 volt jigsaw. My question is until I start making larger items, should I invest in a planer right now, and when I do, should I get the table top or hand held? Thanks
Trauma sheers are so useful! I am a Firefighter (for almost 20 years now) and I use these for so many things on and off scenes. Good suggestions using the "clamps" also!
I'm only as far as the trauma shears but I have to comment. I did an impulse buy from Harbor Freight a couple years ago for a pair of them. .99 cent. I was blown away by how they cut anything. I ended up giving them to a friend because I figured I'd pick up another one the next time I was at the store. Haven't seen them there since lol. Anyway, I can vouch for how good they are.
i actually have a pair of shoes with a thick rubber crepe sole from the '70's.."was" almost 2 inches at the heel...i have used it for years on my belts and drum sanders. They were just ok shoes but I have gotten way more use from them in the shop...lol
Very useful information thank you very much, I get a lot of of your videos Just curious, you said you were a nurse before did you get into woodworking as a less stressful more relaxing type of work? I really appreciate how simple you explain things so the average person can understand
That piece of rubber for cleaning sandpaper... you can get very large ones for dirt cheap at truck stops. They're used by truckers for removing brake dust or something
Im a retired surgeon that taught surgical technique for years. I’d recommend putting your thumb and ring or little finger into hemostats and scissors, not your thumb and index.
I remember years ago we were at a firing range for our military weapons, and we had mechanical problems with the bus. We had a Medic with us, and he was able to fix the throttle link on the carburetor, with his hemostats. I think he gave them to me afterwards, but through the years I think they might have gotten lost "in the garage". OK, back to the video.
#MatthewPeechWoodworking thanks for tips and ideas! In another video you mentioned you have a air compressor tool that removes nails from recyclable wood...can you please tell me I'm so broke I can't afford a guilt trip so used wood pallets is my current wood source
I worked in surgery for over 20 years, and once someone learned that about me they all come out of the woodwork (yes, dad joke) to see if I have any “extra” hemostats!
I have a really long hemostat that has one super useful woodworking use- I have it hanging from my table saw to retrieve the nut from my arbor when I drop it into the saw during blade changes😎
A couple months ago harbor fright had the magnet bars on sale for $2.99 Thought I’d try em Figured they would be so so Worked fabulously Go back later to get several more $5.99 Dang Still bought more
Why in the world would you try to cut small pieces that like on a miter saw? There's no way that is ever going to be safe. A good miter gauge or sled on the table saw is the way to handle that job.
I found a RZ-M2 mask on clearance at my local Ace Hardware for $2.99 . I couldn't believe it . At checkout it rang full price an told clerk it was on Clearance, She went over an scanned an was WOW that's a insane price 👍, Only 2 ex-larges grabbed both 😜
I thought everyone had a pair of trauma shears. I was a nurse for 15 years also, cardiac step down for 3 and rest M/S. I do not use my hemostats as often as I should.
Great reminders on lot of these and great content, no BS. You put out a lot of good vids that's at another level than most I've suffered through. ty sir!
Just stumbled onto your channel a few days ago. I have found that your videos are very helpful and informative. Especially like the unique perspectives you share.
The Rubber block for cleaning you paper/belts is a must have! 4 years later and I still have about 3 inches left. 🇨🇦
Edit: That kinda came out wrong lol..
At least it's getting used 😂
Do you call him "Mr Winkie"?
Thanks for all of your knowledge... you're like a woodshop buddha
Love this!
Thanks!
The scientific name for hemostats is Roach Clips!
Lol
😂
Lmaooooo
Right?!?
😂
What a cool list! Thanks!
Thank you, lot of good ideas
thanks for all your videos and advice
Abrasive Cleaning sticks are a good buy for absolutely any one and literally save you crazy money.
Thanks for the info Matt !
I use the hemostat pliers/clamps for holding coins when I make them into rings while removing the temper. I am always looking for a stain or resin applicator rag that won't come off on the wood, the pads sound awesome!!

Some of the most use tools in my shop are inexpensive and really not made for woodworking.

The pickets are $5 each here in SW Iowa, how about the St. Louis area?
Great video Matthew, I have to think about adding a few more items to the shop
There's always room for a few more lol.
Yes, always lol

I love that little comment about the magnet that the tools hang from, “the tool will always be there. Theroleticly
I was a nurse for 10 years too. The funniest thing I used was Foley statlocks to organize extension cords along the wall.
Lol I had never thought of that. Awesome! 😂
hey those plastic packages you said are hard to get into , if you squeeze the sides its meant to open enough in the back to pull it completely open . i had no idea till i seen some tiktok compilation posted on facebook.
Whaaatt?!? I’ll have to check that out. Thanks!
If you use a hand held can opener for the plastic, it works. Open just like a can.
Trauma shears... dude, now I have the kids help with the hardwire cloth / chicken wire stuff. Not giving ages 7, 9, or 12 my angle grinder.
Lol yes!
Magnets and pacemakers don't play well together...fyi..
Very true! Lol

The original military issue trauma shears would cut through a penny.
Good item to have.
Buy a good set for the first aid kit.
Yes!
I didn't know you were a RN. That's really cool. Still can't say obelisk, tho.
Lol that’s true.
I had to get rid of my hemostats my wife thinks it's really funny to attach then to my nipples. I'm a guy but dang it still really hurts😂
😂 ouch
I have kept a set of HF "trauma shears", to be fair that not what HF called them, in my vehicles for years incase I ever need to cut a seatbelt, mine of someone else's.
I lost a bet with someone claiming they could cut a penny in half with those scissors. Well it cut the penny no problem
Yes! They are awesome!
It looked like you were making a turkey box call with that drill press vice…am I correct?
Pro tip: Hemostats can be purchased at most autopart stores 😊
They are a handy tool!
Yep an their lil bro's alligator clips , gotts to add leather string with a small feather off'n it
The hemostats comment had me in "stiches". LOL
🤣
When people use shoes to clean sandpaper, they're using the old rubber sole. I don't think the leather uppers would do much.
Right!

If anyone still doubts how tough trauma shears are; even the cheap $5 pairs will cut a penny in two. Stay Safe!

Good job and thank you for sharing enjoyed it
Of course!
People don't realize how many urgent care/ER visits are caused by trying to open those plastic covered packages.
Very useful information thank you very much, I get a lot of of your videos

Where do you find that rubber and does it have a brand name? If sold in the big box (blue or orange) stores, what department would I find them?
A couple months ago harbor fright had the magnet bars on sale for $2.99
Thought I’d try em
Figured they would be so so
Worked fabulously
Go back later to get several more
$5.99
Dang

Why in the world would you try to cut small pieces that like on a miter saw? There's no way that is ever going to be safe. A good miter gauge or sled on the table saw is the way to handle that job.
I found a RZ-M2 mask on clearance at my local Ace Hardware for $2.99 . I couldn't believe it . At checkout it rang full price an told clerk it was on Clearance, She went over an scanned an was WOW that's a insane price 👍, Only 2 ex-larges grabbed both 😜
Nice Score!
I thought everyone had a pair of trauma shears. I was a nurse for 15 years also, cardiac step down for 3 and rest M/S. I do not use my hemostats as often as I should.
Great reminders on lot of these and great content, no BS. You put out a lot of good vids that's at another level than most I've suffered through. ty sir!

Do you have a way someone could ask you a question or get your input on some joinery? Without putting it on here for everyone to tear me apart?
