Most useful video I've found on Rub'n'Buff - I was trying to coat a metal frame and had that exact problem you showed with the metal box - and now you gave me a solution - thank you!
Thank you! I originally painted it for my daughter! But then we switched rooms. ...and now recently moved! Lol but I redid a big wall for her in her new room 💕
hello, I have simple white wood mirror frame, however it is satin finish, when I applied the gold leaf, it was not sticking to the surface, any idea what I am doing wrong?
When I had an issue with it sticking, I used some Rust-Oleum 2x clear matte spray to prime it! It stuck great after that, but did need multiple coats! I hope this helps fix it! 💗
I havent tried it on glass, however, I feel like it would work if you first spray the items with some clear spray paint. You might have to be the guinea pig this time! 😅
HI! Long story short. There was a leak in my roof and the renovoators accidentally broke my mirror. It is 18 mos later and I still have no mirror. I am thinking of buying a wayfair mirror about 2 feet by 3 feet. I am not feeling the "antique" frame of branches and birds. I think it is medal and it currently is antique gold more bronze. I want shiny gold what would you suggest? You may be saving me after 1.5 years no mirror.
honestly, Id find a spray paint in the color/sheen that you love! I know rub n buff has a lot more color options, but these are the only ones I've tried! however, I have spray painted mirror frames! Just take some newspaper, or garbage bags, with some painters tape to cover/tape off the mirror part! then spray paint the frame. if any spray paint does get on the mirror, you can scrap it off, gently with a window razor blade. I hope this is helpful 💕 best of luck! I do have a bathroom makeover video that shows me doing my mirror, if it would be helpful.
I had shiny flawless flat plastic surface and mine needs primer, must depend on surfaces, if it can grip on to it 🤷🏻♀️. Great video. I just thought i wasnt putting it on right 😂
I have a shiny metal chandelier- the crystal is great looking, but the metal - cheap looking. I ordered rub n buff and now I know it needs some kind of coat. It's hard to spray paint because I don't want to seton the crystal. Hm. Wonder if I can delicately hand paint some kind of primer?
I'm not sure, nothing specifically comes to mind right away for you to seal it with. Try researching metal clear coats and see what pops up! Happy to try to help if you have any other questions.
I do discuss this in the video, but yes there are fumes! It smells like spray paint. I used it inside, but turn on the fan and opened the window to keep the air circulating.
I am actually not sure! I didn't test any of the projects that I did in heat and have since sold them all! If I get the opportunity to test this, I will let you know!
First box was basically not sanded down enough. With all due respect you can see a very clear glare and reflection from the "sanded" box. This thing works great but like anything else .. prep is key
You are probably right, I was a bit nervous to sand it too far and the marks to show up. I'm not vwey familiar when working with metal. Just trying it out! Happy to accepts suggestions to help! Thank you!
I would think so. I used it on plastic and it worked really well! Just needed multiple coats. I'd probably make a practice piece to make sure though! Just in case it has issues sticking!
When this product first came out, it was much better. It was shinier, and it covered almost anything on the first coat. Now, in my opinion, it is not worth the money.
Correct! However, I do see how this could be confusing, so I'm happy to clarify, if you are referring to this product! The Rust-Oleum 2x Ultra Coat spray paint is my go to! I use it in the color clear and matte finish. It's just my preferred finish to achieve the look I am going for! It is a sealant that gives you twice the coverage in less coats of paint! You can use it to seal in a finished project OR you can use it to prep your project from any stains or problem areas that need to be sealed in. In these times, I refer to it as a primer because it is acting as a primer. I apologize if I have not made that clear in my many times using it! 💕

I'm so happy it helped!! As frustrating as it can be, I love when I figure out something is an easy fix!
THANK YOU!! I had a similar experience with metal and thought I was crazy! thanks for this video and tips
I'm glad it was helpful! Good luck! 💕
thanks for an honest demonstration
Thank you! I do my best to be as transparent and honest as possible! 💕
Thank you for being our Guinea pig! Lol. Also I love the paint treatment on the wall behind you!

Exactly the same issues used on metal lanterns. I might try again with a primer. Pity the product doesn’t suggest this.
The pup is adorable but it’s the skull for as a fav.
I am zero percent surprised that the skull is your favorite!! 💀💀
Thank you! I tried it in a cabinet door knob and it rubbed right off. Thank you for the suggestion to use a primer.
I hope that's works for you! The box I did it on didn't come off after that!

Great tips about using a primer - thanks
No problem! Best of luck! 💕
Does this rub off without sealing? I wanted to use it in the bathroom on towel bars. Thanks for a great review!
Sorry about my delay, but it says on the packaging that you shouldn't seal it!
This was exactly what I was planning to use it on, towel bar and toilet paper holder, toilet handle. Any updates? Did you try or? Tips or advice?
I forgot to ask you if you think I could use it on glass taper candlestick holders to match some aged brass ones I have?
I havent tried it on glass, however, I feel like it would work if you first spray the items with some clear spray paint. You might have to be the guinea pig this time! 😅
Thank you for this!
My pleasure! 💗

It definitely depends on the surface! There have been times that I am positive its going to work great without extra prep. I was wrong. 😅

Are there any fumes? Can you do inside your house without issues?
I do discuss this in the video, but yes there are fumes! It smells like spray paint. I used it inside, but turn on the fan and opened the window to keep the air circulating.
Does it melt off in the heat, since it’s a wax?
I am actually not sure! I didn't test any of the projects that I did in heat and have since sold them all! If I get the opportunity to test this, I will let you know!
Does it smell really strong after you let them sit and dry? Like can you still smell it if it’s sitting around in your home?
It does not! After it dried, the strong odor went away!

@@KraftingWithKandace I hate sanding metal too, I always just use metal primer 🤷♀️😅
@@MsKiirby it just really makes me uncomfortable 😅 Primer for me, here on out!
Yes but loved the idea of having the primer so it’s still smooth. And quicker and easier! 😂
Primer! Thank you!
Is this permanent on etch glass?
Ive never tried it, but I would think yes, as long as it is given plenty of time to set.
Can you use it on resin?
I would think so. I used it on plastic and it worked really well! Just needed multiple coats. I'd probably make a practice piece to make sure though! Just in case it has issues sticking!
When applying wax, work in a circular motion
Thank you for this great advice! I have since learned this, but wish I knew sooner! 💖
When this product first came out, it was much better. It was shinier, and it covered almost anything on the first coat. Now, in my opinion, it is not worth the money.
Thank you for your feedback! I wish I had used it before to be able to weigh in for comparison!
Using a microfiber cloth is not good absorbs the product the rub n buff to much. Just use your gloved finger.😊
Oh, I didn't think about that! Great point! Thank you for sharing! 💕
I thought it would look great on jeans or a Jean jacket….both silver and gold
Oh that's a neat idea! If you try it, you should share it in my FB group! If live to see it!
its primer...no its sealer...but its matte...its primer...no its a sealer...Actually it's a clear spray paint.......its a primer...
