- Learn the basics of mining in Star Citizen with this comprehensive Beginners Mining Guide.
Welcome to the verse Citizen! Regardless if you are a new or veteran player, there are many ways to experience the verse and one of the popular ways to do that is through mining. While there are 3 types of mining in Star Citizen in 3.23, this guide will focus on vehicle(ROC) mining and ship mining. There is a lot to cover and understand in Star Citizen when it comes to mining from scouting, scanning, mining, refining and ultimately the sell of your valuable ores. I will of course have time stamps down below if you are looking for any particular segment. Watching the whole video is the best way to support the channel and I really do appreciate it guys.
ROC mining is the most beginner level accessible simply because of the low cost for entry. You only need to rent the ROC which is very cheap and a ship large enough to carry it. Fortunately, the mechanics and gameplay of both vehicle and ship mining are very similar so if you can master one, it transfers over very easily. ROC mining also has much fewer steps than ship mining so that is a plus.
Ship mining is where your big money is at. The prospector is a fan favorite ship and has long been trusted for mining expeditions. As mentioned before, it does have a few more steps to its processing with having to refine and take those refined goods to market. The huge bump in price for your troubles is well worth it. I already have millions of aUEC in the 3.23 patch and I don't get to head out mining too often. Mining with the prospector is a very relaxing way to play Star Citizen and is why so many people enjoy it.
Thank you guys so much for being a part of this community, show up for yourself everyday and I'll see you in the next one. o7

This video is awesome! I am sort of a experienced Star Citizen player, but I never really understood the scanner. Now I do thanks to you!
Thanks man, I really appreciate you watching. If you have scanning mode up and point it at a ship with full power it'll scan the entire ship. It'll tell you exactly what components it has equipped and what cargo is on board
You can also physically attach modules yourself! Don’t be afraid to pack em in your ship’s interior.
Explained a few details i wasnt sure myself, thanks alot! With a bit of wait time and the right refinery i made so much more money.
That's awesome man, make that money💰💰
Nice work dude, easy to follow and very helpful
Thanks for watching and good luck out there!
There's decent info on this guide, but I would have also mentioned to the new guys to focus on getting their desired valuable ore between the 30% to 40% area. So like if you see a rock that's 40% iron, 40% gold and 20% inert. I tend not to waste my time on rocks that are less than 30% of the material I want
If you mentioned, it my bad, I was tired watching this 😅
That is a good practice! I meant for this to be more of a beginner guide so I didn't worry too much about stuff like that. I know some miners are more about "volume" and just scoop up everything they break. It's not "wrong" but I don't do it that way. I like to let people decide for themselves.
Well done!
Great video. Thank you.
as someone coming back into mining this video is very helpful
Great video and easy to follow along and understand
Thanks man, I really appreciate that and thanks for watching!
So, I'd throw in the Impact mining heads as well. Perhaps not as user friendly, but with a Surge and a RC3, you can beat a Hof's breaking power.
You should also have explained mining by distance with the Prospector a little better. Its one of its greatest- and actually most fun- tools.
Great tips man! There was a lot I wanted to include in this video but didn't want to verge on making it boring and too much info. I will be making advanced videos for both prospector and mole individually to better dive into some of those aspects.
Holy hell, tab, contol, alt, the controls just to mine is INSANE....i am sure it becomes muscle memory...but as someone watching, thinking about buying to become a miner....this is a LOT
It is a LOT of info to take upfront. Believe it or not this is with a lot trimmed out. There is still a lot of info to really grasp with mining. There are a lot of intricacies with it. Even hand mining looks completely different than these 2, granted the base concept is the same.
Ok coming from ED mining in star citizen is a little underwhelming up until you get to the point of mining with prospector and mole. That looks very interesting. Why there isn’t anything like deep core mining in this game I will never know but it looks like you can have a pretty well oiled industry and constant flow of material for money.
Gotta remember that star citizen is still in alpha, about 60-70% towards beta. There are a lot of mechanics still to be added and even more that need tuning.
the rime module is also good for beginners as it is basically a get out of jail free for when you massively overcharge a rock. It's my choice during free fly's when server instability makes finer control basically impossible.
thank you
You're welcome, and thanks for watching!
Thank you for the guide! I have a question. With all these passages isn’t faster to salvage the panels with the vulture? With a single route at maximum capacity I can do up to 6/700k
Are you comparing the money making potential of the prospector vs vulture?
The vulture does have an advantage with no need for a refinery stop to sell. However, everyone is always selling RMC so finding a place that will take it becomes the challenge there.
They both have their pros and cons. Kinda the fun part of SC is that you can swap gameplay and still work towards your goals while trying new things.
@@epic_grayfox exactly what I was thinking. Thank you so much!
Don’t forget well if it is still possible is to get mole bags to increase scu carrying from 32 to 48 (if still possible)
Prospector buy is TWO-million like your text shows, not 29-million like you said…..right?
It's 2,929,500.
Text is correct, misspoke and didn't realize iit editing lol. Good catch tho! 29 million would be ridiculous
You don’t need a suit for daymar mix of medium and heavy armor should help you out. Aberdeen I am not to sure can’t remember your roc spot
I keep hearing the Lance Mh1 laser is the best for quantanuim is this true?
Saying a laser a is good for quantanium doesn't make sense. No laser gives you a inherit advantage when mining a specific ore. You can craft a mining build to help you mine it tho.
Any build that lowers resistance, increases the size if the optimal zone or increases cluster factor will be effective for quantanium mining
i dont get these location markers when i am pinging. i have pierc value at 0 when flying around. i am flying at a height of around 1km and speed of around 200m/s. what am i doing wrong?
Use tab to scan first to find viable locations
Did all this just for my roc to be stuck inside of my ship because the laser arm. Too funny how finicky this game is yet I still put myself through it
That sucks dude! If you swap into mining mode before driving it into the ship it should reorient the laser correctly
@@epic_grayfox I eventually wiggled my way out. And shortly died after my first haul taking a sip of water and not putting my helmet back on xD really great tutorial though, I definitely know how to mine thanks to your video :)
I have it buged a can't see metter for chargeing rock I rent Prospector and I can't use it
Is it just one part of the UI or the whole UI?
Wasn’t the prospector sold for around 2.2mil before?
It was barely over 2 mil before, now it's a 2.3 mil
@@epic_grayfox not sure how you keep getting the price wrong. it's 2,929,500 or 2.9 million. It even shows the price on the rental screen at 6:44 , but in that section you said it was 29 MILLION, and edited on the screen 2,292,500 or 2.3 million. Say it with me, "two point nine million" 😂😂
One thing I hate with the update is how you can't see distance from rocks anymore. Makes it annoying to use the MOLE sometimes since I need to keep adjusting the orientation of the ship as a solo player
I'm going to be making a mole centric guide this patch. A lot of the mole is an experience thing and I have quite a few tricks I've learned
I highly advise against investing in roc mining, quite often a few rocks in, while keeping power in the green the entire time the mining / lazer arm will stop working completely. Total headache and will leave you picking up the ore by hand.
No mention of Jennalite.
Janalite is a hand minable and currently can only be found in caves. It's very valuable and extremely rare. Not practical if you are trying to make money
How is 600k per hour calculated exactly? Having workorders constantly running? Standard bags or upgraded to the mole bags? Travel time to refineries and TDD included? So many questions :D
Great questions! Assuming you use standard bags and not filling your bags with junk(like iron). Does not include time selling as that is all done on the back end.
Typically I can make a mining run happen in about 20 min from start to finish prospector starting from ASOP and ending at refinement terminal. Of course that's with no nonsense at all lol
@@epic_grayfox Thanks! Appreciate the clarification
Well, it's easy: It's just clickbait, dude. These RUclipsrs can't help themselves.
So how do you make $600k per hour?
you dont
two million, two hundred and ninety-two thousand, five hundred: not 29 million.
I misspoke. I swear yall are gonna clown me forever over this lol
lol, you can purchase your own for 29 million eh. i don't want your prices vs cigs
I need to make a new guide... imma keep getting bullied over this lol
@@epic_grayfox was a great guide, just was a bit comical at that point.
29mil LOL
It's an expensive ship okay😂
Good thing I put text on the screen for it
learn how to read numbers, damn
I only have a high school education okay 😢
Can we just get someone to just tell us what the rsi signals are to find rocks. Nobody seems to get to this until wayyyy to late if at all
