    I am very proud to be a Siemens employee. Thank you for the tour of an American locomotive factory. Everything is a bit bigger and more robust here.
    Greetings from beautiful Germany, why don't you come and visit us in Germany and test the Railjet or the ICE3 Neo.

    6:08 - Does that mean we could end up seeing Siemens handle a bunch of overhauls for Amtraks Superliners? Maybe the Amfleet II's will be renovated to last until Amtrak finds replacements for them as well? The Viewliner I's are in desperate need of overhauls. They felt run down when I first rode in the early 2010's.
    Also, congrats on reaching a status where Siemens took notice and invited you to the facility!

    First of all, welcome to Sacramento! I've called this area home for much of my life.
    I presently live and work near the factory. It's always fun to see some of these trains leave the factory, crossing Elder Creek Rd. as I leave work and heading home.
    Another thing I was thinking about when I heard that Siemens Mobility was doing more mainly for Amtrak, but now more for elsewhere in North America: Sacramento has been a hotbed of rail history. From being the westernmost terminus of the original transcontinental railroad to being a manufacturing powerhouse for North American passenger railroads, Sacramento has put itself as one of the biggest locations for things passenger railroad-related.

    Good tour, I see a clean and modern facility here. The merging of European tech with American needs and regulations works well for Siemens, and passenger rail vehicles get a more contemporary look and feel to them.

    Incredibly cool video! Thanks for going over the various steps of railcar assembly, as it goes to show how everyone plays a part in making all of these railcars come together for the greatest railcar builder in the country.
    It's especially cool that you got to see the Cascades Chargers (likely the first video footage of such Chargers to date), although I do question why the rear end has a different frame, notably near the rear headlights at 1:30.

      Marcom teams are always out the lookout for 'influencers' like this. They then invite them to have a closer look to help increase visibility over what they're doing. Good marcom teams will make sure to have no direct editorial touch. Generally only limiting it to company secrets or legal restrictions.
      Marcom is "Marketing Communication" for those wondering. An evolution of what was PR. I'm also using 'influencer' in a constructive way, not the common flashy way it's often used as.

I know that in Utah we have old and new low-floor light rail cars but it would be nice if there was a video showing the different types of them so I as a disabled passenger can see different models and layouts so I can let my own public transit companies know which is the most accessible trains?

    I'm still bitter that Siemens chose Horseheads over Olean.
    Olean has a rich history of fixing and refurbishing old steam locomotives going back all the way to the 1910s.
    It's at the intersection of the old Erie and Pennsylvania main lines.
    The old Dresser plant, which Siemens used to own, had a roundhouse, a whole bunch of facilities already set up for locomotive refurbishing and fabrication, and the yard had a direct connection to the main line.
    Also, Olean is already storing at least 4 Acela II sets from Alstom in the freight yard. We already have experience to transport these sets.
    The resume was on the wall, and Siemens chose Horseheads. A town that no one in southern New York cares about.

    • @johnchambers8528
      @johnchambers8528 2 дня назад +2

      Siemens most likely wanted a fully new factory to build their trains. While rail fans like the old buildings and history modern companies want the latest high tech equipment to build modern trains at a cost that railroads and transit agencies can afford and still make a profit. Budd built those great Amfleet cars but went out of business due to low demand and not being able to build the orders they had at a good profit.

  • @Sacto1654
    @Sacto1654 2 дня назад

    I believe Siemens Mobility will soon build a new assembly line in New York state that will likely build the train sets for the California HSR system. They will be based on the Siemens _Velaro_ train set design used on many high-speed rail systems around the world.

    I wonder several things:
    First off, with the new Lexington, NC factory, I know that will for sure enable the expedited completion of Amtrak’s Airo train orders, but that also might enable them room to build Amtrak’s new long distance fleet as well. Has Amtrak specified whether Siemens might be the preferred manufacturer for Superliner, Amfleet II and Viewliner I replacement?
    Also, how many pieces of equipment can be in the factory at a time? Like how many Airo cars could fit on the entire premises?

      There's no good place that already has electrification for freight use. If the PRR system hadn't been taken down on Conrail trackage, maybe there would be a home in the Northeast. If the Milwaukee had stayed electric I'm sure we'd already see dual modes on that route. The first area I expect we'd see mainline freight electrification is a west coast port to inland cargo handling area route, which might see some dual modes if the route isn't 100% diesel or 100% electric.
