SpaceX rocket booster makes successful landing after test launch - using 'chopsticks'

- The launch of the fifth test flight from Elon Musk's Space X Starship rocket has been a success.
It took off in Boca Chica, Texas and was the first attempt to bring the rocket's Super Heavy booster back to the launch tower. After a slightly wobbly descent, the booster was successfully grabbed and clamped by the tower's "chopsticks".
Starship and Super Heavy are designed to carry crew and cargo to the moon and beyond - and be reusable.

this was thought to be impossible 5yrs ago and now its come to life.. what a day to be alive to witness such a historical event
Actual historic events i'm OK with witnessing lol
It's like we thought it was impossible just landing vertically. Now they catch it too!
Now... Waiting for the next historic moment, catching the second stage too
Yeah now it's just impossible for the companies and governments that treat space as a jobs program.
This was though impossible a few hours ago
Seemed like a joke when Elon Musk first announced SpaceX would catch a returning rocket with mechanical arms.
A stunning awesome achievement.
They're chopsticks!!! Get it right. :)
@@jaunt3603 they just caught a lot of sushi lol!
I've been simping for SpaceX since the first launch of the Falcon 9, and I laughed and said this was absurdly optimistic! "This test is definitely going to wreck the tower and cause months of delays." Feels good to be proven wrong.

IMAGINE, a rocket NOT being used to harm other human beings.
World take note.
Also imagine it being used to divert the asteroid that'll inevitably hit Earth. It goes both ways. Also imagine being able to launch the ISS's replacement in one go, or something far more capable that the Hubble or James Webb telescopes. Focus on the good and it is more likely that is what we'll get.
Imagine being able to ship 100 tons of supplies and equipment to troops any where In the world in just a few minutes.
We don't have to imagine, since there have been literally dozens of rockets in history that were NOT used to harm other human beings. smfh

man i just want to see a human in mars before i die and i am 33 years old. i hope Elon a long and healty life, we definetly need Elon musk in this world.
First mars launch is 2026
Assuming your not terminally Ill I would say that is highly likely assuming the government doesn't get in the way. If Trump is elected unmanned ships attempting to land on mars are definitely in the cards during his administration. Same with a moon landing... again assuming government aids or at least doesn't impread them.
Sadly mars is so far away that testing and planning and the journey take a while so manned will take a while.
Im 26 I have been waiting for something like this since I was 6 years old.
@@callum4796 Unmanned, but with five ships! First crewed launch might happen in 2028.
I'm 56, i saw the last moon landing aged 4, seeing a mars landing before i die would book end my life nicely.
this is a 2nd golden age for space flight for those born after apollo. incredible.
That booster is twice the size of my church tower and they caught it. As impressive as that is, reentering and soft landing the top part vertically is technically more impressive.
Elon Musk single handedly ending flat earthers
Elon Musk is a dork, taking credit for well paid engineers work and ideas.
This is thanks to American engineers, they are the genius behind SpaceX's success.

Sky News PLEASE....Let these types of videos speak for themselves and allow the audience to enjoy the imagery and listen to what the professionals are saying on the actual feed. Your anchors' voices were really annoying throughout this video
I think the last time a spacecraft landed on original launchpad was Thunderbird 3 in the 60s. It was supposed to be complete fiction - now it isn't.
Welcome to the future. it's all unfolding before our eyes. Your lifetime will be the most studied time in history by historians thousands of years from now.
As the lifetime that created women's bathrooms for men
People say that about every new lifetime, and have been since the 15th century.
Humans might be extinct by then thanks to global warming and the damage that our planet is causing by these rockets, cars, jetty, war, etc
The future is now. Watching 33 raptors all firing at once is nothing short of incredible
Sadly GBNews in UK decided that the launch was worth 5 seconds of coverage, missed out completely the 10 seconds of amazing historical action when the booster got caught!
Huge Kudos to SpaceX, Elon and all the people that made this possible.
so your the person that watches GB news!?

More like astounding historic event 👏👏
Keep in mind the sheer size of this rocket. It can theoretically take 100 people to space at a single time. The rocket combo (starship + booster) is larger than the Saturn V rocket that took people to the moon. This isn't a Falcon 9, folks.
