    Just freaking amazing.
    I've never heard a mandolin sound like that.
    The chick on the 5 string bass.....man.
    She is getting NASTY on that thing! That turns into some serious FUNK!
    If they came to Texas, I'd be all over their concert!
    I can hear where the Doors got some of their sound from. Especially the track
    "The End".
    Sometimes youtube makes a good choice.
    This was AMAZING!

    This group is phenomenal, Each musician is amazing. As a bass player myself, I find this bass playing woman beyond words. The percussionists are completely amazing. The other string musicians are fantastic. I can only say wow, I am overwhelmed.

      I felt that mrs mohini deys performamce in this was far below than standard of all others in team. I skipped her part. I don't know whether it's because i am unable to understand the instrument. 🤔🤔🙏

    We lost two genius musician from this group Mandolin Sreenivas and violinist Balabaskar too early. Bala's case was too tragic. Rest in peace. 🙏

      Mandolin Rajesh still kickin’ it. His brother U. Srinivas passed in 2014 from complications after a liver transplant.
      He was the mandolin player with Remember Shakti

    Balabhaskar will always be missed by the true followers of his talent.... though ‘ll remain in our hearts forever.. Mohini is a bass phenomenon ... brilliant .... Drumeo and the Ghatam player and Mandolin.. all are exceptional....

    I have listened this Jugalbandi many times. I say this 20 minutes of mesmerizing music. If I started it, my wife knows that, now I will be hypnotized by the magic of these 5 magicians, for the next 20 minutes.
    But I say them Gods.
    Gods of music have come down to earth, for a 20 minute concert, and now I will be so involved, that even if Yamraj comes at that time, I will ask him to stay for the next 20 minutes.🙏🙏🙏

      this is a classical Carnatic composition several hundred years old, played by thousands of groups before, but its the first time I heard it with drums and bass, 5 strings at that, it was kick ass and I can't get enough

    the violinist- well- all of them speak the language of God when God is feeling oh-so-groovy. I am re-captured every time I hear this. I understand that they are all superbly gifted in their instruments, but in this song it's the violinist that takes me to that place I can almost SEE the angels dancing. . .

    The fusion music emanating from Asia has been opened to me via Mohini Dey; I owe her big time! I've been a fan of The Mahavishnu Orchestra from the 70's. Jan Hammer was a mind bender! I'm so glad to hear fresh creativity is still growing in this vein! Mohini still amazes me every time I hear her play! As a bassist, I bow to her!

    At 18 minutes and 20 seconds U Sreenivas ends the ‘MELAM’ returning to the starting notes of Keerthanam; crowd cheers, he bows to them graciously and responds to Balabhaskar, who smiles appreciatively, then turns to Mohini Dey, who normally goes about her business with an imperturbable demeanour, and teases her using the strings of his beloved companion to which she responds with a big smile, Balabhasakar, and the men on percussion (Drums and Ghatam) join the party, transcending the spectators to cloud nine.

    Others have said it but listen up. The bass solo should have been raised +10 dB higher. It is mind boggling at 13:34 when Mohini goes "full tabla" on the strings - *with both hands* - and her guitar *obeys.* Surely Saraswati herself was pleased.

      I felt that mrs mohini deys performamce in this was far below than standard of all others in team. I skipped her part. I don't know whether it's because i am unable to understand the instrument. 🤔🤔🙏

    Awesome fusion band playing...... Mohini has it all .... Her demeanour is so calm she looks like she's been out shopping and just picked up the Bass .... Great tone in her playing .... very tidy.

    wow that was totally brilliant , I've never quite heard anything like that before, I listen to a lot of Rock some blues and Jazz , but I've never quite heard the Indian influence and that was absolutely amazing to watch Masters at work , and Mohini Dey is magnificent on the bass that's how I found this video by following her , that would be awesome seeing them at the Montreux Jazz Festival as someone commented earlier

And as brilliant as McLaughlin was then, I think Rajesh could have given him a run for his money. And Mohini Dey... Mein Gott, she'd make Jaco weep...

      Actually that small guitar is a modified mandolin design. The artist is U. Rajesh. His brother U. Srinivas was a child prodigy and designed this kind of electric mandolin. He was a star classical carnatic musician when he was 9 years old. Unfortunately he passed away.

    Wonderful! My favorite is U Rajesh in Mandolin but Bala Bhaskar on Violion, Mohini on Bass and Giridhar on Ghatam is awesome!

    I love this fusion... Mohini is out of this world... God speed to her.... At the same time.. Everyone else on other instruments specially the violin and mandolin was great... Not to forget the tight percussion on ghatam and drums.... Its just sublime

    This performance gives me the goosebumps everytime I listen to it. A real tragedy we lost Bala Bhaskar at such a young age of 40. RIP Bala Bhaskar, this is an immortal piece of composition.
