      He literally explained that you can do more in third-person, like exploiting track-limits to... well, the limit. - I feel that discredits the entire organization of the tournament, or the game itself even. - Why bother pretending it's a "simulator" when you can float behind a car like some kind of ghost?... Doesn't make any sense at all. It's the same crap as when in PUBg you can look over walls in third-person. - Sure, "if it's officially in the game, it's not cheating", but I just disagree, because in practice it literally is. The game is just broken in my view. - That said, I don't think it's AS bad in racing, but if they allow that in tournaments, that's just not right.

      @@michaelmonstar4276 you're more than welcome to go play a sim. I never even claimed this game was a sim. Unless tournament rules state that using an in-game mechanic is cheating, then it isn't cheating. For example, a lot of people think shotguns are unfair in FPS games, but using one is not cheating unless tournament rules specify that it is. Many fighting games have broken characters: you know what people do? They ban those characters in competitive settings. Go ahead and petition for a ban of chase cam. Otherwise, stop whining.

      VR is great for immersion and with time you can have good awareness with it, but it still doesn't give you much as peripheral vision/awareness like IRL. Blind spots are exacerbated in PSVR2 due to the fact that your mirrors do not change what you see in them depending on the angle your looking into it, meaning you only see what directly behind the mirror at all times limiting its actual real world effect. It's still managble but not true to IRL.

      It's also a matter of setting the camera position and FOV properly, because few people realize that often the camera is in an equivalent position of putting your face pretty much up against the rim of the steering-wheel, which would be idiotic to do in real life. Your head should be near the headrest of course, which some games at least allow you to do, and then you can already see more in width, as well as over the hood and plenty of the environment in front, plus if you tweak the FOV (but not too wide or everything in the distance will just become too distant, besides things will distort) you'll be able to have a good overview of everything critical. - But I bet most people don't bother and have that default "face-to-the-wheel" view and just feel it sucks, because it does. I didn't realize this for the longest time, but once I found games that let me change it, it clicked that it has often just been wrong in games and I could finally get the view that's more equivalent to real-life. - And yea, it really helps to at LEAST have 21:9, as it allows for about 30% more information and it feels a LOT more natural.

    NONE of the views are totally realistic. As when we drive a car at the limit of grip in real life we depend on feel. It's about feeling that back end start to lose grip. No sim can replicate this. Some professional racing drivers are hopeless at sim racing. Ben Collins says the two are so different. So any visual advantage probably makes up for the lack of physical inertia felt when driving at speed in real life.

    Who is "they" and why do they have anything to do with how you or anyone plays a game they payed for? The real argument that causes the controversy is this: Do people driving in cams like chase cam give that person an advantage over someone who drives in the cockpit cam. The answer to that is yes, and it's for all the reasons you mention here. Everyone do what you want. It's your game and you payed for it. I've said this before and I'll say it again. There are two types of sim drivers. Those who want as much immersion as possible and those that want to win at all costs. Neither is wrong imo. VR might be different but I've never used it so I have absolutely no concept it but your pov is limited and you can't move your neck and body in which when driving in real life is key. Maybe them massive rigs some people have that's pretty much a car have a decent field of view but if you've got one of them then you're at an advantage anyway. To me the VR2 is actually mind bending how good / "real" it actually feels and looks, especially with a basic wheel set up....no crazy movement rig...just a wheel set up and VR2.....scary good bro. scary good.

    In GT bonnet cam is the most realistic for me because when I am sat playing my peripheral vision sees the room I'm sat in and my TV screen becomes the windscreen; I drive faster in bumper cam and the dials are better.

    • @michaelmonstar4276
      @michaelmonstar4276 3 месяца назад +1

      Except the screen isn't separated from where that camera is, so you're essentially saying that the windscreen is on top of the bonnet as well and your head is on the dashboard. - Thing with virtual images is, it already creates space between the virtual camera and whatever objects there are in front of it, which is an image that gets projected onto your eyes. Which in turn means that it simulates where your head is, and the space between the monitor and your real-life head does not count. - The virtual camera should be where your head would be in the virtual world, period, as it's first-person (not "in front of the person"). And then you're looking through this "virtual window" (which is your character's eyes) and how large that window is depends on the monitor's aspect-ratio as well as the FOV-setting. - So the correct camera-position (which is in front of the head-rest) plus a proper FOV-setting (so it's at least not too "zoomed in" like most games) is how it's "correct". - The only problem with this is, if you're far away from the screen, it makes it worse, and if your monitor is small, it makes it worse yet. I mean, if you can't get the virtual steering-wheel to be nigh life-size on the screen (as it would be nearest to the virtual camera or character's view), that's basically too small. But there ya go, my two cents.

    If you call yourself a SIMRACER, you should use the cockpit perspective, if you are just a normal gamer, without pretensions and without a sim-rig and steering wheel, you can also drive from a bird's eye view. But I don't know any racing driver who sits on the roof of his car and thereby gains an advantage. SIMRACERS belong in the COCKPIT, everything else is just ARCADE for me!

      Bonnet allows for you to see the peripheral information you would get looking out of a real car. Cockpit literally puts a 2D template of nonsense (the interior) that frames your view and artificially restricts it.

    How about no one tells me how to play video games in my own home, and I don't tell others how to play video games in their own homes? People who complain about not driving in first person just come off as salty, try hards who are just upset they are slow and blame it on camera settings.
    Just accept the fact that Toto Wolff isn't calling you up to replace Lewis Hamilton no matter how many virtual races you might win, and you might enjoy sim racing a bit more without acting like some incel.
    I always play in first person for immersion but I couldn't care less what view other people are using. This isn't a full blown sim, so who cares?

    You are 100% right here K. The people arguing for cockpit being the most realistic are COMPLETELY ignoring how our eyes parse visual information. "IRacing does it" is not an argument for anything. If people are arguing for "realism" then VR would be the only way.
    Like you've said, having a 2D interior template blocking a third of the screen that you cannot see past is in no way realistic at all. Bonnet is 100% the closest GT7 gives us to a realistic driving vantage.
    3rd person is definitely the least real of any of them, and is the only one I would point at as being a "cheat", but it is a fun way for people to play and see the car in action, so who cares if that's someones preference.

    Also, the difference in left and right-hand drive can’t be simulated when your camera is stuck in the center of the car. Bottom line: Cockpit cam is more difficult. If it’s TOO difficult for you to deal with, then you’re not a sim-racer. You’re not simulating anything. Sorry, but facts.

  • @antjones2281
    @antjones2281 Месяц назад

    The idea camera for VR is cockpit view. Because the windshield is life size and you are focused solely on looking through it. It doesnt feel limiting.
    On a monitor the best view for realism is the bonnet or hood cam, as in this mode your screen "becomes" your windshield peering out over the hood of the car . Only real disadvantage here is that most games I've seen dont offer you rear view or side view cameras.
    Chase cam is a fun view, that also has its merits, but not for realism first players.
    It's not all that complicated really.
    Whats funny about the whole argument is that in the end we are all just dude playing games.

    Third person view is like you're controlling an RC (radio controlled) car and not actually driving anymore. If you don't use a wheel and you use third person view, then I'd say it's closer to the Matchbox cars video game; that only has third person view. Races should have equal view. I only want to race against other people in VR2. The VR2 view is even more limited in that the road, corners, other cars, etc. will all be more out of view than on the bumper cam, roof view, and third person views from flat screen. I'm only in it for the full immersion. To each their own. If third person makes you happy, great. But I do believe it's unfair to allow people to drive with different views. Same view (whatever it is) should be how the races are set up.

  • @nsp5258

    Bumper or cockpit cam are by far the best overlays in this game if your on a wheel. There is technically no difference in fov between the cockpit/bumper and bonnet. So from an fov perspective which is by far the most important detail for immersion, bumper and cockpit are the best by far and still leave a lot to be desired as far as realism due to any real adjustments in the game. There are great videos out there on FOV if you actually want a proper understanding of how to get an immersive sim racing experience on a 2d screen. Psvr2 by far takes the cake with gt7 though, I've not played the game without it since I got mine.

Despite the better competition the joy wasn't there so much. That PP isn't used in daily races is just anti-GT in my opinion. Mixing up cars is what GT used to be all about. Cockpit view looks cool but it’s impossible to race as you can’t see especially in a Lamborghini where you can’t see over the dash so you can’t see the track. Plus the door/window struct blocks your view plus you get distracted by the windscreen reflections and the nobs and dials. I’m in a wheelchair and often on roads and the view without any car is the easiest for me as that’s just what I see. However in The Crew Motorfest I prefer the bonnet cam but the cockpit view is easier than GT7.
    If GT7 made the Cockpit View much higher then I would actually use it.

    Cockpit view is technically more non realistic when it comes to general sim racing setups. General sim racing setups uses rigs that are already far away from the monitor and then you decide to add more depth by using the cockpit view? That's why you should never use the cockpit view if you want a closer to realistic distance to the car's windshield view. That would significantly improve how you perceive distance between your cars bumper and the corners.
    Using the cockpit view is like adding two cockpits in your car. The first one is your sim rig's cockpit and the second one is in the game. Cockpit view is a good option but technically not the most realistic way to drive when using a general sim rig setup. Its probably very rare for a sim racer to stick their sim wheel very close to the monitor and use the cockpit view. That just asking for a larger pixel view and its not ideal to stare at the monitor very close.

    The only realistic one in gt7 is the cockpit camera, a camera between the wheel and dash would be best but it isnt available.
    Interestingly though, WRC driver Oliver Solberg stated that he prefers chase camera for playing racing games, even with a wheel because its the only view you can actually notice the real movement of the car, nothing like actually "feeling" car movement, but being able to see it can help.
