    Even though I grew up in the era of the Holden Kingswood & my own father had an '81 WB ute with a 202, I still get a shock each time I see how much room there is under the bonnet of an old 6 cylinder Holden! These must be super easy to work on compared with modern era stuff & their jam-packed engine bays.

    I still love these old wagons, for a tradie they were very useful. A proper roof rake on one of these, you could carry lots of timber etc .Love your show Mike. By the way when you folded down the back seat, the floor pan was the same as a ute, Insurance company would only insure a wagon because you could lock them. Thanks

    Love the wagon, great work on bringing him back to life. Just one small suggestion from an aircraft mechanic, regarding the bolt on ball joints, you should always where possible have the threads down so that if the nut should happen to wind off the bolt won’t drop out.

    A bloody good watch, mate. Great to see the engine come back around from being down a couple and I didn't know about that little trick with the lifter. Will remember it if I come across another one that's not doing its job as it should. I've not seem a Q that tidy in the body since me Grandad sold his one 30 years ago. He'd had it since new, done 170-odd thou kms in it and the only reason he moved it on was that she was getting a bit big for him, so he went and bought a low km VK which he drove until his eyes packed up. The old Kingy had a few light battle scars, but nothing terrible and the 202 still had 40psi at idle. She was a 3-speed column change and I loved the old beast. Kicking myself ever since that I never bought the darn thing, because I probably never would have sold it. I could have had it for peanuts and all, as they weren't worth the ground they were sitting on in the early 90s. That wagon was surprisingly good bodywise - and even the interior wasn't terrible considering the sun damage 50 years will do to it. Looks grouse on the Cragars too. Really enjoyed watching it all come together. Just a pity I probably couldn't afford to bring her over here when she's ready! All the best, Mick.

    Old tricks were putting in diesel oil to free up stuck lifters or one that was passed onto me, at idle actually spray carby cleaner down the side of the pushrod at the lifter, presumably followed with a few revs.
    Back in the nineties at a car yard there was this customers Commodore wagen, black motor, at least as I recall. It was decided it needed new lifters which were fitted but wouldn't stop making noise. The older mechanic came over and did the 'I'll show you what you need to do', and reved the nuts off it till there was no more, so that was the opposite end. Ran fine after that, we checked, customer service..

    • @backshed5295
      @backshed5295  Год назад +1

      Yep older diesel engine oils have much higher detergent % so they are good for that . Believe it or not that’s what I put it in, Ci4 diesel. I’ll get back onto it the next time the HQ is in an episode but for now I’m just happy it ran hahah

    So good to see you back mate! What an awesome find that wagon was. I can't believe how rust free it is. I was unsure of leaving the patina but with that 2 Pak clear, it looks fabulous. Brought back memory's of working on Q's in my younger days, particularly the good 'ole 202. Back in the day we would be camming, porting and polising, rolker rockers etc. but it's so good to see an original 202 Q as a great survivor cruiser. Particularly the wagon. I had a couple of these in my early days. Could fit people as well as surfboards and you could crash out in 'em after a few too many. Good times. Oh and I also remember the struggles with upper control arms. 😂😂
