(Oh there's the cannon money truck pulling away, beep, beep, beep) - Nonsense clips of TV/Movies added ridiculously throughout the reviews - Reviewers who spend their intro telling you how they are better than other reviewers because they actually used the camera. I'm always on the look out for more people because it's hard for one reviewer to spot everything. But boy is that a miserable process.

@@wl5609 thanks, no the crop at 4k 60p is due to the sensor readout speed - it's a hardware limitation. if you want full-frame 4k at 50 or 60p, you'd need the EOS R6 or Sony A7S III.
as a professional hybrid photographer and videographer and without all the foibles of the canons... i've ordered this... brilliant camera.. and this is the extensive reviews i have been looking for ... none of the marketing style reviews other vloggers are doing. great job gordon!!!
I was considering the R6 and was holding for the A7iv release. I think you basically have shown me that it was worth the wait. Thank you very much for the very detailed review.
Thank you for this! You're currently the only RUclipsr among all those others with this camera, showing how it would perform for 'vlogging' style video.
I was going to buy an R6, but decided to wait on A7IV reviews. Having seen several side-by-sides, I'll be sticking with the R6. The only real advantage the Sony has (other than better overheating performance) is custom modes, a full sized HDMI and ALL i video, which Canon may add in a firmware update. Canon R6 color science, screen, EVF, IBIS, low light, burst shooting, uncropped 4k, and even autofocus all seem to be better. Canon uncropped 4k downsampled from 5.5k vs Sony cropped 4k downsampled from 7k = pick your poison. I'd prefer the uncropped Canon, personally. 33mp vs 20mp could go either way depending on what you want. Personally, I prefer 20mp. Still plenty of res, with faster shooting, less processing, less disk space and easier to work with. The A7iii was insanely ahead of it's time....3 years ago. This A7iv is a marginal improvement on 3 year old technology, while Canon has been making massive leaps and bounds playing catch up. Both great cameras, but I'd say for most people, scales tip towards the R6.
Camera buying decisions go so far beyond comparing spec sheets. Record numbers bought a Sony three years ago, and all that glass. Glass is why Canon has had it's head above water all this time. The decision to move between systems is based less on factual things than people realize (like emotions, and even the crowd they're associated with). There are photographers who would only let you tear away their Canon if they were dead, and it's the same now for a generation of Sony people. I think Canon has a much longer way back to have most people buy one of their cameras (hybrid shooters anyway).
@@chosenideahandle Completely agreed. I wouldn't say there's enough of a difference either way to switch ecosystems. If you're invested in Canon already, it's a no-brainer, stick with Canon. If you're invested in Sony, it doesn't make sense to switch to Canon. I personally own a C100 mkii and a bunch of USM L glass. The R6 with an EF adapter w/ built-in variable ND means I get to use all my L glass, AND have built-in variable ND's....that's a slam dunk for me personally. If someone owns practically no gear and is looking to get into cameras in this price point, I'd go with Canon. The R6 barely edges out this A7iv (IMHO) and there are going to be tons of awesome RF lenses in the future, along with all the amazing legacy EF glass + the RF to EF adapter w/ variable ND. Fuji is a great option too for a little cheaper, if you can get over the poor AF. Aloha!
Please note the R6 doesn't have uncropped 4k at any frame rate. Like the R5 it starts with the wider DCI shape which is the full sensor width (and which the R5 lets you record if you like). Then both cameras shave the sides off to deliver 16:9 UHD, resulting in a mild crop. Unfortunately the R6 doesn't give you DCI, so it suffers from the crop on all 4k footage. To be fair it's not a big crop, but it is a crop in all modes. The A7 IV is truly uncropped at 24-30p, albeit suffering from a significant 1.5x crop at4k 50-60p, like the Lumix S5.
@@cameralabs The R6 in 4k has a 1.07x crop....for all intents and purposes, this is more of a technicality than an actual crop factor worth paying attention to. The A7iv crop @4k60 is 1.5x, not trivial at all.
@@evankolpack of course, I just like to be accurate when people describe the R6 as uncropped. Obviously at 50 and 60p there's a big difference betwen the R6 and A7 IV, but for me the absence of overheating issues makes it much more practical to film with. I'd personally sooner have that than 4k 60 with a mild or no crop, but I realise everyone wants different things! Shame they couldn't stretch to full-frame 4k 60 on the A7 IV!
Thank you for comparing it to A7 III esp in 1080p, which confirms that it's really not an upgrade for 100fps shooting. And after experiencing 4k120 10bit of the a7s III, this one's a bit difficult to get excited about. An un-cropped 60p would have made it perfect in this price range but as it stands today, the cheaper S5 offers more in terms of pure video IQ.
As Gerald Undone mentioned, if Sony had stuck with 24MP to favor un-cropped 4k60 and better rolling shutter, I think they'd have made the value prop more obvious over the R6... right now it's a bit of a toss-up with pros and cons on both sides.
@@bestattentions There are always Pros and Cons with all the systems, difficult to find "The Perfect Camera", wait a second, there are no Perfect Cameras.
Honestly we're splitting hairs here at the end of the day Lenses are we where most of the money goes.. You could always make money off of the camera and buy a new body suited for your needs
The Sony A7Siii can record uncropped 4K 120fps. The Sony A7iv can record 4K 60fps but is cropped? Both have the same processor... What gives? Is Sony deliberately underpowering their cameras performance? Not sure I like that, especially with the £2500 price tag.
now sony becoming like canon,. they dont want to canibalized their own product,. theres a chip shortage,. declining sales of camera, now sony probably will be like canon,. they will only update their camera after the next 4-5 years,. sony was low baller company before,. to gain market share between nikon and canon,. sony always releasing full blast specs, just to get ahead in competition,. not if you compared sony a7iii vs a7iv, there is no much a difference,.
Prolly one of the last people i trust with camera reviews. Thanks Gordon! i think Sony finally nailed it with this camera. Now we wait for Canon's answer
Cheers Gordon. I'm going to pick this up as a replacement for my A7c, which I use as a second body with my A1. This seems to be like a mini-A1 for stills, and a generally well-rounded body for video as well. Excellent work for both parts - very thorough, clear, and fair.
During the vlogging test I noticed the vignetting on the lens shifting with the active mode stabilization on. Interesting side effect of the stabilization!
Weird that Sony made a brand new sensor that is this slow. Or is the readout limited by the processing or maybe nerfed intentionally for product separation purposes? But otherwise seems nice.
Exactly and cause probably the future models or at least the A7v will use the same sensor it is completely disappointing!this camera could be great at this price if it had the rolling shutter issue at least less than a7iii. Or if not priced the same!
@@jalexanderevans Yeah, unfortunately it's not as fast as R6. For "full sensor" 4K 24/30 R6 is 29,3 ms and A7 IV is 26,5 ms, *but* R6 is reading 14-bit and A7 IV 12-bit. When R6 changes to 12-bit with "full sensor" 4K/60 the readout time is only 14,9 ms. So based on this R6 has about 1,78x the readout speed of the A7 IV. But R6 uses slightly more crop on it's "full sensor" video. So the the other way is to compare the still photo readout. In 12-bit mode R6 has 19,3 ms agaist 32 ms for A7 IV. So the R6 has 1,66x readout speed. So it seems the R6 is 66-78% faster than R7 IV (but obviously latter has much more resolution/data). This also explains why A7 IV has only 10 fps max burst compared to R6's 20 fps. So I'm little dissapointed 😐.
Loved both parts of your A7iv review! As a hybrid shooter myself, the 10-bit 4:2:2 upgrade in video is a huge selling point for me. Some of my productions use larger Sony bodies (such as the FS-7, FX-9) and now the A7iv can match them nicely! RAW output via an external recorder, like the A7Siii would have been lovely but I can't complain at this price point. Thanks again for the detailed videos!
Really good video! But what shocked me is how well A73 actually looked compared to both cameras. Its a little bit worse in detail but not by much. Yeah, it has 8 bit codec which is the main drawback but really, it could almost be lika a b cam for A74
Hi, thanks to share your interesting video. I'd like to ask a question please: I make only documentaries in 4K around the world, I don't take Pics. I take interest about a good image quality of the video. I only shoot handheld footage and never use the tripod, does it have a good stabilizer? Do you suggest this Sony A7 IV camera for 4K videos? Thanks you. PS: My english is not good and I don't understand if at 4K 25p 10bit I get less crop than 50p.
@@cameralabs I thank you a lot for your suggestion. A last questions please: I only shoot handheld footage and never use the tripod, does it have a good stabilizer? Do you think Sony A7 IV is better than Lumix GH5 MKII?
Thanks Gordon, appreciate this video focused take on the new camera. Probably not compelling enough to upgrade from my A7C. One thing that drives me nuts on the A7C is I can’t use eye autofocus while also using “control with smartphone”. I wonder if they’ve allowed it on this new model?
Hi Gordon, it is a detailed review. Thank you. Comparing this new A7 IV (4k oversampled from 7k) and A7 iii (4k oversampled from 6k) - do you see any improvement in video sharpness? How close is this new A7 IV 4k quality comparable to Canon R5 (4k HQ mode - 4k oversampled from 8k)?
WOW! I watched quite a few A7iv reviews today and finally found this one which is so much more useful. Well done! will now watch part 1. Question? Are you saying the 1080 is from oversampled 7k and which bit-rate are you filming 1080 in. Thanks again.
That's a good question - Sony don't say how they generate the 1080 video, but it did look a bit better than the A7 III in my tests - I was using the normal 50mbit XAVCS here for 1080 up to 50p.
Hello Gordan! For the sake of more stable handheld video (walk and shoot), taking into account also the 180 degree shutter angle, do you think setting A74 at 1080 100P with shutter speed at 1/200 or 1/250 a reasonable choice? Many thanks! (Standard Steadyshot + warp stabilization in Davinci)
thanks for this great review gordon, you're the only one showing and comparing 1080p in 50/60 fps - for me having HD in 10 bit with S-Cinetone also paired with Active Stabilization will finally open up video - i won't have to invest into a gimbal or deep dive into color grading to get some decent quality for client work - i believe most people underestimate the value of this!
... plus catalyst browse which is really handy. Ive used it on a ZV1 it so usefull. I couldn't get over how smooth my footage looked without using a gimbal. It took seconds to use - so not sure why people complain about the process.
Exactly! Get that money! These fools splitting hairs are nuts! No perfect camera exist and the ones that do... No one here in this Comment section can afford it... Or else they wouldn't be here would they
Thank you for the review, it’s interesting to see how even at 1080p, the 4K video is much sharper than the cameras 1080p video. I think if you showed the 4K video at 200%, it’d be of great help for those of us with 1080p monitors to assess the quality of the 4K video, for example, with both the r5 and a1, when the 8k video is zoomed 400% in your reviews, I can see it is not as sharp or clear as there’s not enough over sampling. Do you mind me asking what camera was used to film the a7 iv? Thanks
Thanks for the informative and in-depth tests Gordon! Always so well done. Feature for feature I think I'll stick with the true weather sealing of the Nikon z6II and with the difference in cost, get a Ninja V and go straight to Pro Rez. Got a chance to try that setup a few weeks ago and what a HUGE workflow timesaver that was!!
Ive used Sony Nex-6, and considering an upgrade to A7 IV. Is it possible to use the camera with continous powersupply? Like having it plugged into power socket while using it? Thank you for the review ;) (ps! and would a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD for Sony E, be a good choice of lens to start with? )
Dose it have an AA filter on the sensor like the a7iii causing it to make very noisy photos? I’ve notice on the R6 you get super crisp photos because it doesn’t have that AA filter
Outstanding review/comparison. I couldn't really make out the ISO/ low light differences, and you didn't comment that part of the video. I heard the R6 is better in ow light when it comes to noise. Is that true?
It's a shame, I'm a little bit disappointed. If the camera could do 4K60 without a crop, I would have ordered it right away. But with this 1.5-fold crop and also with a strong rolling shutter, the camera is no longer an option for me. I don't need 33 MPixels and if I do, I still have my Nikon D800 from 2013 with 36 MPixels, which, if only for photos, is one aperture superior to my Sony A6600 in lowlight and also has a greater color depth. So trying the Canon R6, which can do 4K60 with a much better rolling shutter or even the Canon R5 ? Let's see or: I bought the IPhone 12Pro Max almost a year ago. It can do 4K60 videos and has great video image stabilization through a moving sensor (this was the reason to buy it). Perhaps you no longer need a large camera for everyday use, smartphones are now very close, including at mirrorless cameras. If manufacturers like Sony are skimpy on options for protecting their more expensive cameras on the basic models, they needn't be surprised if people are gradually turning to smartphones. As always, a GREAT Video of you.
Thanks, I'd say the rolling shutter on the R6 is no better, so watch out for that, and yes it may not be as cropped for 4k 60, but the R6 will overheat when the Sony doesn't.
There is no way professionals would be using phones instead of an actual camera. And I wouldn't say they are really skimping on features. Do you think it make sense to make a camera that outperforms a camera dedicated for videos?
@@lionellow105 First of all, thank you for your comment. You're right, professionals wouldn't use smartphones. But Sony will make money with the base model A7M4 with the 95% amateurs who will buy this camera. 4k60 without a crop in the A7M4 would not outperform the A7S3.
@@wolfgangpetersun2730 That's the whole point, it should not be out performing the s3 because of its price bracket. I would say they definitely didn't go all out, but this camera ain't bad

Thanks Gordon for the detailed video review. Just wondering if you will be testing the 1.5x crop + clear image zoom video quality degradation. I know the 4k 1.5x crop is still oversampled, but was wondering if the video quality suffers a little/lot from clear image zoom. Thanks in advance :)

Thanks, I feel the R6 rolling shutter is as bad in my tests. Yes, the R6 crop is less for 4k 60 BUT it overheated in my tests and was limited to half hour clips too, so i find the Sony more practical. It is a close thing though.

Hi Gordon great detailed review - one question, does active tracking and eye autofocus work in all video frame rates, including 4K 60 and 1080p 120? The a7c drops this feature at 120
Thank you for the breakdown, however as per the title I was looking for an R6 comparison but couldnt see it in the video was that in a different video? Title was confusing.
Great review! Can you tell how bright the LCD screen is compared to the a9ii/a1/a7siii? When I use my a9ii and a7iii simultaneously, I tend to overexpose a7iii due to it's dimmer screen (bright setting).
anyway, great video, thanx a lot, so could you recomend A7iv? And tell me please, everywhere they write that this camera released around 30th of december. So how did you get it?
Hi Gordon! Thank you for all your videos, your information is so sound and easy to absorb. I just have a question- totally understand the Super 35 crop on the 4K60, however are you able to shoots 60 fps in 1080p and be able to use the full frame that way? I am struggling to find an answer on this, so would really appreciate your insight!
Thanks, and yes it is, although it sounded a bit warbly after YT live had received it via my wifi outside, so I replaced the audio with the file recorded in the camera. It should be fine indoors or on a faster connection though.
Hi, I am considering buying the Sony A7 IV and I would like to ask you a question. If I activate all the stabilizations possible in the camera during the shooting phase (even in the zoom lens ), will the video I get slightly decrease in quality? I mean its definition, etc. Thank you.
optical lens stabilisation and sensor IBIS don't degrade resolution. Digital stabilisation will crop the video a bit and therefore reduce the resolution a little, but you barely notice. The steadier image makes up for it. I notice you're asking a lot of questions. I'm happy to answer as many as I can, but please consider supporting me with a coffee.
Great video Gordan, thank you. I am lucky enough to have the Sony a1, but I am looking for a B cam for many scenarios and I am considering the A7IV. The concern I have with the rolling shutter issues is, I shoot a lot of kids dance concerts. A question for you: If I had the A7IV locked off on a tripod for the wide shot to capture the whole stage (so the kids would be fairly small), so you think it would be an issue? The kids would be moving through the frame quickly, but I am not sure that at a distance the rolling shutter would be an issue. I’d appreciate your views. (Oh, I’d be shooting in either 24 or 30frames 4K). Thanks so much. ✌️
Hey gordon, really awesome review! Watched probably a dozen and yours was the best and key IMO in terms of what the audience for this camera is looking for. I was wondering how you feel about this camera as a go-to camera mainly for vlogging, with a side of everything else (the stabilization is key here, and it looks not bad but I'm a little worried about the crops in gyro and active). Currently have an S5 but thinking of switching mainly for the autofocus.
Gordon, do you see any improvements in HD quality over the quality from the 7iii? Anything to be excited about? The a7siii really seemed to deliver fantastic HD, and I am wondering if the 7iv does any favors for HD...
I'd like to know if you can finally scrub video playback using your fingers on the LCD touchscreen? The Canon R5 and R6 has this feature while the A7siii and A1 didn’t have it I believe.
I'm concerned by the awful roling shutter, the huge crop in 4k 50/60 (x1.5), the poor LCD screen, but above all THE LOW BURST (rafale) ! Only 5/6 IPS in uncompressed RAW is unacceptable ! So i hesite, buy now the SOny A7IV, or wait for a better Fuji XT5 (no crop 4k, better IBIS, better BURST, Better LCD Screen) ?
Your overheating results put my mind at ease! Thank you! Its quite impressive that you‘ve managed to record for 35 min in standard mode!! In my ideal scenario I would like to keep it set to standard because Im kind of worried that high could reduce the cameras lifespan… I would love to hear your thoughts on this!
It's hard to say for sure as none of these cameras are old enough to say what long term effect heat will have on them. I can say I've filmed for long times with my Sony A6400 set to high for 2-3 years now with no perceptible ill effects, but who knows after 5 or 10 years. I think Sony is saying when set to high, it will be ok BUT it will feel warm to hot and some people may not like that in their hands.
@@cameralabs Thanks a lot for your insight! Im not a fulltime filmmaker. I just want to shoot some clips occasionally. Speaking about 5-25 min at most. According to your testing this should be possible with standard… In terms of auto power off temp I‘ve heard people claim that its just a legal insurance for sony. Allegedly someone burned their fingers and sued sony so everyone has to confirm manually that the camera is allowed to get 'hot‘!
@@eliasgottschlich you should be fine. I'd leave it set to High anyway to avoid it shutting down in the middle of something important that ended up taking longer than you think. If you only or mostly film short clips, then it won't make any difference, but you have the option if you need to.
@@cameralabs Just for additional information: I just talked to a Sony technician and he confirmed that the auto power off temp is set to standard to prevent low temperature burns. So you have you allow the camera manually to get warmer. But according to the technician this wont damage the internals.

@@ExploringWorldRUclips in theory the optical IS on the Sony lens will work with the body IBIS to deliver slightly better stabilisation overall, but it may be closer than you'd think. Excellent review on the video features of the A7iv. That being said, I have already pre-ordered my A7iv and look forward to shooting video with it. (Happy Subscriber).
Hmm I know it might sound like a no brainer - but as a photographer who shoots portraits but wants to get into more video work ... how does this compare value wise to the s5? Autofocus is not a big deal to me.

Well a lot depends on the lens, as the brighter the aperture, the more light there is for the camera to focus and also work at lower ISOs. But some of these lenses can be tricky to focus, so you're looking at a combo of bright lenses that can be focused effectively. Something like the Sony GM 50mm f1.2 on any of their most recent bodies would be a good option

As always awesome review! Those internal mics sound pretty good, wow. Most surprising part of the review for me!
Yes i had to double check those clips!
Thats why i will buy the s5 instead of the alpha. Its 1000 dollars cheaper in my country but i doubt the s5 is 1000 euros worse
The stabalisation on the S5 is excellent as well.
@@andersistbesser the auto focus though on the s5 is not on par with Sony or cannon
4k60p crop, low fps, rolling shutter, 1.03M screen...Too many compromises at this price point in 2021 given the success of R6, let alone A7iii's.
Yup.
Different sensors with different resolutions and readout speeds.
Prolly one of the last people i trust with camera reviews. Thanks Gordon! i think Sony finally nailed it with this camera. Now we wait for Canon's answer
I think Canon's answer is the R6. I expect their next models to be low-end or high-end.

And here Gordon straight on to point with comparison .
Loved to watch !
Thanks, it was reviewable, so I reviewed it!
@@cameralabs thank you so much for wonderful reviews ... !
Cheers Gordon. I'm going to pick this up as a replacement for my A7c, which I use as a second body with my A1. This seems to be like a mini-A1 for stills, and a generally well-rounded body for video as well. Excellent work for both parts - very thorough, clear, and fair.
Thanks for watching both!
Skvelá recenzia Gordon, ďakujem. Pokúsili ste sa fotiť klepnutím na displej? Je to možné?
Yes it works well with the touchscreen,
Watched all the Sony new camera reviews yours is by far the best and most detailed. Especially the video and stabilization bit!! Well done G
I think they just wanted to match the r6 on rolling shutter... shame they didn't want to exceed things a bit more.
Exactly and cause probably the future models or at least the A7v will use the same sensor it is completely disappointing!this camera could be great at this price if it had the rolling shutter issue at least less than a7iii. Or if not priced the same!
@@shahabh2108 Yes, I was thinking the same.
It's not a Sony stacked sensor, that would probably have been to expensive even for 2600$
Information comes after watching many reviews. Satisfaction comes after watching Gordon Laing review. You are the best at what you do! Cheers!
Thanks!
Yeah, it has 8 bit codec which is the main drawback but really, it could almost be lika a b cam for A74
Hi Gordon! A very professional review. Do you know if the Sony A7 IV has overheating problems when you record to both cards simultaneously?
I didn't get to test this, sorry.
IBIS doesn't seem to do anything in vlog mode
Hi, thanks to share your interesting video. I'd like to ask a question please: I make only documentaries in 4K around the world, I don't take Pics. I take interest about a good image quality of the video. I only shoot handheld footage and never use the tripod, does it have a good stabilizer? Do you suggest this Sony A7 IV camera for 4K videos? Thanks you.
PS: My english is not good and I don't understand if at 4K 25p 10bit I get less crop than 50p.
4k up to 30p is full-frame. 4k at 50 or 60p is cropped. Yes, this camera will work for you.
@@cameralabs I thank you a lot for your suggestion. A last questions please: I only shoot handheld footage and never use the tripod, does it have a good stabilizer? Do you think Sony A7 IV is better than Lumix GH5 MKII?
@@ExploringWorldRUclips The Lumix has better stabilisation due to its smaller sensor
I would like to see a walking test with les shallow depth of field too. The background was very busy and distracting. The stabilization is great!
Thanks Gordon. I keep coming back to your videos. The A7iv is another great Sony camera.
Thanks for watching!
I thought it was close, but check out this video and also my EOS R5 for video review and you'll be able to compare my charts...
Good to know, If guess to increase mbit that would require shooting in all-i. Thanks for the info
Great video Gordon easily the most detailed review of the Sony A7 IV on RUclips , great work !
Thankyou!
Very thorough review. Thanks Gordon.
Yes, for 100p use 1/200 ideally
thanks for this great review gordon, you're the only one showing and comparing 1080p in 50/60 fps - for me having HD in 10 bit with S-Cinetone also paired with Active Stabilization will finally open up video - i won't have to invest into a gimbal or deep dive into color grading to get some decent quality for client work - i believe most people underestimate the value of this!
... plus catalyst browse which is really handy.
Thanks
Yes, I will make another video showing tighter crops soon. As for my b-roll, i use a Sony A6400 - all gear listed in the description.,
Thanks for the informative and in-depth tests Gordon!
Not sure, but I compare the still photo quality between them in part one of my review and I wouldn't describe the R6 as being crisper.
Thanks for the video. Sounds like we'll see soon a comparison between the GH6 and A7IV.
I hope so
Outstanding review/comparison. I couldn't really make out the ISO/ low light differences, and you didn't comment that part of the video. I heard the R6 is better in ow light when it comes to noise. Is that true?

Your are my fav camera reviewer. ♥️♥️♥️
Always a very helpful and detailed review for potential buyers - thanks for posting your thoughts, Gordon!
You're very welcome!

Comunication skills anyone? Many thanks again for yet another in depth review. Next up...NIKON Z9! Looking forward that monster. Cheers Gordon

Do you think the "focus breathing compensation" will be available in a firmware for the A7S3 / FX3 ?

Great review as always... well done. One question...when using the webcam live stream feature is sound from the camera carried over the USBc as well?
Thanks, and yes it is, although it sounded a bit warbly after YT live had received it via my wifi outside, so I replaced the audio with the file recorded in the camera. It should be fine indoors or on a faster connection though.

I always film my overheating tests with the screen open.

Its quite impressive that you‘ve managed to record for 35 min in standard mode!!
In my ideal scenario I would like to keep it set to standard because Im kind of worried that high could reduce the cameras lifespan…
I would love to hear your thoughts on this!
According to your testing this should be possible with standard…
In terms of auto power off temp I‘ve heard people claim that its just a legal insurance for sony.
The S5 is tremendous value if you don't need Sony or Canon's level of AF. Please check out my reviews of it to see how well you think it performs.
Best complete review so far.
Man love your reviews 100%
An excellent and informative review! The rolling shutter looked quite bad at 4K 25 fps, how was it on the older A7III?
Almost identically as bad. Moving the camera like a normal person eliminates the problem in my experience. Things like golf clubs and hockey stick are usually brought to my attention when I mention this lol.
@@chosenideahandleYeah, one doesn’t quite pan as frenetically in a real world situation. Thanks!
similar rolling shutter to A7 III
@@cameralabs Thanks, I see. How would the rolling shutter and IBIS/Active stabilisation differ from the A7S III?
@@byRobertEklund have a look in my A7S III review, I can't remember exactly.
Can you please do a review about A7IV new features for photography and Videography comparing to A7iii
I mention quite a few differences throughout both my A7 IV videos.
does the focus breathing work with standard non GM sony lenses? such as the sony 85mm 1.8?
only the ones I mentioned
What is the best lowlight camera if you don’t look at the price and megapixels now in 2022 Gordon ? I live in Rotterdam many things happens at night good and band so I wanna take some actions shot and always have the camera with me but I’m still not find the answer and hope you can give me a hint 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@cameralabs Thank you so much for the quick response and great advice I relay predicate it so much !! So a GM 50mm f1.2 with a A7IV will be a great option !?
@@persbureaupeternick yes, the A7 IV is also a great camera, although since Sony hasn't released any new models for a while now, you may want to wait a few months to see if anything else arrives.
@@cameralabs that is a good idea Gorden 👍🏼for now I have only a Fujixt3 with a 16mm 35mm 55-200mm but the lowlight is not so good also the newest models xh2 what is a nice for the higher resolution and the xh2s for speed but still hhmmmmmm , thanks for your tips and hope you have an infesting awesome and of course lovely day 😊🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Canon is the king specially r5
Gordon is my goto for camera reviews 🥰
Thankyou!
Hi, thanks for your useful video. So there is no way to film 4k full frame with the Sony, right ?
Yes you can film 4k full-frame
@@cameralabs That’s nice. Thanks for your answer. I thought only in super 35. Anyway, 4K is only 30 fps, right?
@@andreascalmy6970 that's where the confusion comes from. It will do 4k up to 30p uncropped, or at 50 / 60p with a 1.5x crop.
@@cameralabs Thanks, really appreciate. That's a pity by the way
Quick question: is the HD down sampled from 4k?
They don't say how they do it...
What is the max S&Q bitrate for 120fps? Is it still just 12 and 16 like the a7riv?
For 1080 100 and 120p, you have the choice of 60 or 100 mbit/s in 8 bit 4:2:0
@@cameralabs Thanks for the reply. I meant to add what is the S&Q bit rate output. The a7riv outputs at a low 12 and 16. I was hoping the a7iv outputted a higher quality.
I really like the focus pull WITH the breathing - way more dramatic :-)
It can provide a dramatic effect, but isn't always desirable
Absolutely true. But very often it's no problem at all, sometimes even make a cool scene. And there are always cinema lenses to rent if you need it perfect for a shoot. Or a little crop with the A7iv 😉
