Switch to V90 SD. Ok, guys, I'm posting that comment under every video related to Sony A7IV overheating issue, because it solved the problem for me and I'd be happy if it helps you. I've browsed through dozens of videos on that subject and most of them didn't mention that particular thing.
Yes, auto power off temp works. Opening the screen and battery door works too. Eventually it allowed me to record 35 min instead of 15 min in 4K 100M 4:2:2. Better, but not perfect. External recorder, switched off linking, battery grip, etc. probably does its job as well.
But V90 SD card instead of V30 allowed me to record a 2-hour take easily. The battery exhausted earlier.
Maybe that's dumb, but having been an A7III user, I never thought the card would be such a gamechanger. In fact, yes. Slow cards just don't have enough capacity, being overheated while trying to process the recording, they overheat the camera internally even though it stays cool on the surface.
Don't bother with CFExpress, just a regular V90 128G card would do the thing. At least it worked like a charm for me. Thanks for the video, Dan! 🙌
First review I have seen that mentions that the memory recall modes are separate for photo, video and S&Q. Basically gives you 9 memory recall modes!
This information is basically in every review of A7IV.
this is something i REALLY like.
Too many youtubers were afraid to call out Sony for the bullshit 4k crop. Thanks for keeping it real Dan.
Hey, it's the only thing keeping me from buying 2 lol
It's almost like it's not a video focused camera.
@@TechnoBabble isn't it a hybrid camera? It should be because Sony's R series has too many pixels and the SIII has too few pixels to work for photos so it's the A7IV or nothing. Canons R5 and R6 are great hybrid cameras. The A1 is awesome but was way too overpriced
@@learningcameras But the R5 is more expensive and the R6 is much lower resolution for stills. This is right in the middle and requires come compromises for the video side because of that.
Dan, you killed it with this one. Super informative and tons of samples. Dang!!! 🥰
overheating is a real issue. we had it in a preproduction unit and in our production unit. Indoors the camera overheats at somewhere between 20 and 40 minutes of recording (longer if setting is on hot).
Did you have the temp set to high?
Yes. Overheating is a real problem. When I tested it, it shut off in 30 minutes while my other sony A7 iii was still working.
@@danielhuang2288 did you set the temp to high?
I did notice that too. Coming from a7iii to the a7iv and really didn't like the overheating
Mine overheated without even actually recording, just from framing shots, it took about 20 minutes. Maybe because the LCD was closed??
Your videos are insanely good and informative. I’m a new watcher and subscriber (a few weeks ago), but just watching this I’m not at all regretful preordering my A74. Honestly, i was having my doubts, but based on your findings and tests, I’m super stoked I preordered 2 days after release, so hopefully I’ll get my camera in December. I really like how thorough you are, & your testing is what separates you from most of the other channels I watch. I will be tuning in to your channel as long as you keep making these fantastic videos, appreciate everything you do. It’s hard spending thousands of dollars on gear not knowing what your getting because everyone (most) just says how great and “promising” gear is, without testing it in the field. Cheers Dan, keep up the great work 👍 I appreciate the answers to my questions also you’ve provided…
Means so much Jesse!!! Really appreciate that. Seriously, the A7IV is amazing and my only hope is that some of my ranting might give Sony some motivation to make it even better via firmware lol.
Did you end up getting it and what do you think?
@@gemwebb there is overheating problems
4K60 full frame is maybe asking too much, firstly they have to protect the A7siii, which is a much more expensive camera. Secondly it is probably a hardware limitation, Nikon Z6 ii does 4k60 with a crop as well, R6 does full frame 4K60 with a much lower resolution sensor and will overheat after about 30-40 min. I think Sony just can't make it do that without overheat or keep the cost in check. Just having a compact and affordable APS-C lens with youm you will be fine.
As someone (me) that's barely starting to look into taking basic but very decent high quality videos with some PP in mind, is the final result with 1080p THAT bad? Is the IQ that poor after making adjustments? How much or how far did you PP the 1080p files? Thanks.
If you care about using PP you won’t have as much flexibly with grading with the 8-bit 1080 files. The LOG modes are unstable so all you’ll have is HLG and CINE profiles.
First time I have EVER pre-ordered a camera! This is the perfect 3rd angle camera to match our A7SIII for weddings!
Is the 1080 worse here than on A7iii?
Was going to buy this but it’s simply not worth the upgrade from the A7iii. It’s basically the same camera with a few upgrades. My shooting options are the exact same (4K 24 and if I want slowmo 1080p). Such a bad idea to not add full frame 4k60 to this camera. Just sad. Switching to canon? 🤔
Dan, if you are a hybrid shooter, why not go mostly APSc lenses on this camera. With 33Mb it shoot be enough. It’s big savings. The FF is great for mostly photo gigs. I think it’s great. You actually can’t shoot apsc 4k on the FX3
The 4K 60 crop does not worry me, as I film with zoom lens and will just pull back, or video entirely in crop mode. Might just mean using wider angle lens. I can see this annoying for prime lens users
Hey Dan, love the content and your presentation style, your reviews come across clean and really well polished, big part of why I'm sub'd!
Mind clearing one or two things up for me? I see many comments, reviews, and concerns addressing the limitations of 4k60 in crop mode, and at the end you mentioned a potential fix with pixel binning. Is this a potential firmware updatable fix, or are we likely stuck with the issue?
In regards to the shutter noise.. when shooting electronically, is that noise eliminated, or at least dampened? That click is LOUD.
Finally, any plans to cover the stills performance in a little more detail? I'm curious how the a7iv will handle low light, particularly astro.. I haven't seen anyone speak to that with this camera, but that ISO performance between 3200 and 6400 sounds pretty promising. Just looking for a little guidance.
Thanks for pumping out the content man, looking forward to the next video!
Your reviews are always nice to watch. The A7 iv has been overheating a lot surprisingly even Sony said sometimes in 20 minutes, not good for those of us in the south in summer. I was disappointed no full frame 60p although some of the other features are impressive. Mine overheated so much I had to grab another camera several times. So I returned mine. :(
I was just watching Philip Bloom make an FX3 with a fan overheat in the UK....so I was shocked a camera with a fan overheated. I'm in Houston so it's about the same latitude as you. So I'll be getting something else. I could live with the same old crappy screen everyone is about sick of. But the lack of full frame 60p was a deal breaker for me as well as the overheating. Still nice little camera
for those that it fits.
Thanks for this - pre-ordered one :)
*_APSC crop is available here and not on S series for 24 30p...That's enough to fire the preorder_*
Great video Dan. Sums it up perfectly
Dan I really don’t know why you don’t have more subscribers! Your information is straight to the point and extremely detailed.

@@FamilyofTech hahaha
This seems to be an a7siii case on a a7iv. No issues? Also not with the battery opening?
Yep, just tried on my SIII case and it worked well. But know they should make a dedicated cage for the A7IV...might be the same cage lol but when I made this video, the camera wasn't shipping yet so I had to use the SIII cage
Is the video sharper on the a1 than the a74?
Which camera would you personally prefer? The Sony a1, Sony a74, or the Panasonic s5ii? The cropped 4k 60 is a deal breaker on the a74 for me.
a7iv is superb mirrorles for me! how many MBs are when you shoot at XAVC S-I 4K 60fps 10bit 4.2.2 ??
600MB ??
------------ just find it, is 600MB! so only cfexpress card here right??
but when you shoot at XAVC S 4k 60fps 10bit 4.2.2 this kind of card isnt necessary right????
Yep, 600 so the CFexpress is required for that mode. But you can shoot all the non "I" modes using V60 or V90 SD cards
Even FF pixel binned 4k60 8bit420 would be better than none at all. If that's still a sensor limitation, I question why they didn't keep the resolution at 24MP.
I said the same thing. They wanted to show improvements inthe photo area as well because it is an hybrid. But they could have kept an improved 24 mp faster sensor with low rolling shutter, 15fps, and improved low light performance and get 4k60 non crop, with all the new stuffs. And it would be much much more appreciated because it would be very good everywhere. 24 mp is good enough for photos for an hybrid. I have a7c and the photo 24 mp are perfect. My a7c miss the active stabilization, and the eye af for animal and birds in video mode that i would like. But except these two features i don’t have i like it very much.
You just keep cranking out useful content. Helps with new gear pre-order decisions, thanks.
Awesome! That's the goal
Would love to see a comparison of the 1080P in the A7IV to A7III, great job on the reviews.
But why?
@@mattgray9297 I shoot for a company that requires 1080P, I shoot then send them the files. They don't want 4K or anything higher than 1080P. Again, their requirements.
Thanks Dan, appreciate the ‘to the point’ review. Really helpful. Just bought the A7IV.
Thanks for the information Dan. Question, is the 1080p worst than the a7iii? How does it compared with a7 siii ?
I really want to know this too!
I think a7 iv is a step back I was so disappointed with 4k 60 crop, 1080 quality, and also the rolling shutter is terrible reminds me with a7. I would suggest go with a7sIII or fx3 if you can afford it ( if you shot mainly video )
Brilliant as always1 Thanks for the hard work! Makes it easier to decide when to buy!
what about rolling shutter? from what i've seen in the reviews it's a tiny bit worse than the a7iii and much worse than the a7siii... that's a bummer...
It's a bummer but not really Sony's fault. More pixels means slower read speeds hence why rolling shutter is worse. Other than using some fast reading sensor like stacked cmos which would be more expensive, there is no other way to improve rolling shutter. The A7SIII is good because it's only 12mp
@@learningcameras the sweet spot for video would be to maintain the 24mp sensor, but improved one... but i guess this is not a video centric camera... but i'm sure it would have been amazing... also much easier to implement 60fps in full frame
Since I'm ballin on a budget, I ordered the a7r instead. Throwback! Nice vid though Dan. I may nab this in a few years.
*_sorry you did not answer the miillion dollar question properly 1080 in A7siii vs 1080 A7iv???_*
If you can send me the a7iv I'll make a comparison
We. Need. Full-Frame. 4k60. Firmware. NOW.
Agreed!
Can we start a petition for Sony to do this?
Good news! Sony makes 2 cameras with full frame 4k60!
@@aboynamedjamil well, the only one that's a hybrid or with decent enough resolution for stills happens to be $6500. Without 4K60 they lack a solid hybrid solution where Canon has 3...the R3, R5, and R6
@@aboynamedjamil good news, i would immediately allow you to buy me one of these options and i would immediately be happy. I doubt thats a realistic proposition…as was your sarcastic comment when you consider Price.
Sony can do this firmware and theres no reason not to.
Hi Dan! Maybe you could shoot and release video samples of the Sony a7iv in 4k crop 60fps with Sony 16-55 f2.8 lens. Commentary would be interesting. In addition, if you have the new Tamron aps-c Zoom lenses and the Sigma new aps-c Zoom lenses. Also, do several similar tests with Fuji aps-c prime lenses for Sony e-mount: Fuji 16mm f1.4; Sigma 19mm f/2.8; Sigma 30mm f/1.4; Sigma 56mm f/1.4.
Does it 16 bit RAW with Atomos Ninja V?
1080p on this vs a7iii… better than the a7iii or same??
No answer hey.
Amazing video Dan, i cant wait to order mine.
Great video… if you do video 1080p with clear image zoom it’s tack sharp like 4K 60p. You won’t notice any difference between the two at all. Might want to try that out
Well done again.
Hi Dan,
Thanks for this helpful review!
I have a couple questions:
1) for 4k60, couldn’t you use the Tamron 11-22/2.8 APSC lens to get those wide shots, making it 11.5-33mm? Or the 14/1.8, it should be wide enough for wedding shots?
2) hybrid shooter here. I already have the A7R4 for stills and looking at the A7S3/FX3 for video or swap them for the A74 and some more GM lenses?
Thanks!
Hey!
So yes you can use APSC lenses like that in 4k60...just means you need to change lenses again if you go full frame or shoot photos.
If you shoot a lot of broll for video, you might want 4k60 or 4k120 a lot so the SIII would be my choice. If you are shooting mostly talking head like interviews where you need 4k24 more, the A7IV might work better
I don't get all the emphasis here and elsewhere about 4k 60p. Near the end he does add quickly that it's a problem "if you need to slow things down." I do slow things down sometimes - but rarely, so 24p and 30p are just fine for me. I wish more reviewers would test cameras at 30p which is common for so many in broadcasting and streaming as is 24p for features. This fad for slo-mo won't last forever.
Suppose someone wanted to buy the A7S3. Would advice them to compromise and go for the new kid on the block (A7IV) consindering that: they have the same body, share some video features, both record unlimited of course the difference being that the one is 120FPS and the A7IV is 60FPS cropped. Thoughts?
Can you use the Sony electronic hotshoe mic in addition to a Rode wireless into the mic jack as separate channels simultaneously when recording video?
interesting, on a7S3 can only do 1 or the other
Nice video, can you please share your settings for some of us new Sony users to startup from. You are appreciated.
Dan stay blessed and spirited
can you say something about the fit of the smallrig cage? are there any buttons/modus switches get blocked by the cage?
Been using the cage for a few weeks now and it doesn't seem to have any issues blocking anything on the A7IV so I'm digging it
With regard to video it does do everything the siii does EXCEPT external raw. Not sure why Sony would leave that out. Not a deal breaker but would have been nice
It's a 33mp sensor, what did you want them to do? 7k RAW over HDMI? Have you seen the quality of the line skipped Nikon Z6 RAW output?
@@TechnoBabble I was thinking since it’s the same processor why not have that extra flexibility so if white balance or iso is off it could be fixed in post with raw. Like I said not a deal breaker but would have been nice
I wouldn’t go that far. The rolling shutter on the A7IV is as bad as it was on the A7III. This won’t be a concern for everyone or in every situation (like locked-off talking head shots), but if that’s a thing you care about, it’s a big strike against the A7IV.
May I offer a correction, this is NOT the “Ultimate” Hybrid Sony offers. The A1 is still that for Sony (at moment). This is the best “Value” hybrid Sony offers. With value, there will always be trade offs, or there is no point to have the “Ultimate” / High End camera that commands a higher price. Fair?
Can you plz plz plz make a video on how to set it up right on a ronin s gimbal please. I try every video but none work for my Sony a7 iv . It’s says the usb cord can not recognize it . Plz help
I think with the 16-35gm lens for video, this should give you the ability to shoot video at a wedding at both 24mm 4K at 24fps & 60fps without changing the lens. So still might be a goer! 😀👍
He complains but has a collection of lens to compensate for it. Can't please these youtubers. Alot of people used the a7iii at 4k 30 with 8bit for real estate so why can't you use an a7iv @4k 30 10bit 4.2.2
So this is 3 years later and $500 more expensive so I expect more. Look how much better the Canon R6 was than the EOS R in just 2 years from crap 8bit 4k24 cropped to full frame 4k60 10bit 422...Plus there is no reason 4k60 full frame doesn't exist except that Sony decided not to. Sony has been putting pixel binned 4k in cameras for years and that always rubs me the wrong way and I want companies to push tech forward. Plus I really believe it was a missed opportunity to make this the ultimate hybrid camera
@@learningcameras I guess they are trying to protect the s3 by crippling it. It also didn’t help that when it was first released for preorder here in Australia the price tag was $4300 as opposed to the s3 being only $800 more at $5100.Due to the price here, I decided against it as a second camera. It’s since dropped down to $3900. Too little, too late. Thanks for the review Dan! 😀👍🙏
@@learningcameras $500 more expensive in 2021 where an iPhone is $1000? Not a big deal but you have to look at it from a business perspective. Improving the a7iv just a little like giving it full read out at 60fps will cripple the a7siii and a1. Why? It's because it's a HYBRID of those two camera and unless your job requires 4k120 or a fast camera, you will pick the a7iv for every time. But yeah, doing a full read out will surely overheat the camera and now you have a Canon r6 all over again. Even doe the r6 was a good camera, I have seen countless videos stating that they rather the siii due to the r6 overheating
@@learningcameras also sony shoot themselves in the foot by pricing the a7siii at $3500. I'm sure if the a7iv could be priced at $3000, they would have put the 4k 60 full read out.
This video was amazing for hardware and software info. Thanks!
Hey Dan…you didn’t discuss rolling shutter in video. Can you create another video?
"When that switches over, those lower ISO files look a whole lot cleaner as well". Can you elaborate? How is it possible for the camera to switch over to the higher range if you are using lower ISO ?
It would be interesting to see IQ comparisons between the R6 4k60 (which is subsampled but with much less crop) and the A7IV 4k60 (which is oversampled but with a 1.5x crop), because a lot of people are wondering which one is better for 4k60 in terms of image quality.
R6 is way better.
@@LuisPerez-fy6up Do you have a source for that so I can compare?
What storage capacity do you recommend for mixed photo and video (4.2.2 4.60 10-bit all intra) ? Stunning review by the way.
Last but not least, You are not talking about the burst limited to 6 fps in raw uncompressed. Is this a problem when using sports or animal photos?
bro I love how some of these reviewers say "well you do have more options. You could always get the A7siii" like bruh obviously if I had $1,000 extra dollars I wouldn't be watching a review for this camera and to add a cherry on top almost every single website I've checked is sold out of the A7siii and doesn't know when the will have more in stock.

Does update fix overheating issue?
You cannot get everything, that is the lesson. I think the biggest bummer for me is the back lcd screen resolution. I can live with the crop and rolling shutter. But will have to live with the lcd also
Unfortunately even Sony's screens with higher resolution don't look all that much better. No idea why their screens are not all that nice...it's not like Sony doesn't know how to make amazing screens

Can cropped 4K/60fps be ‘upgraded’ to FD 4K/60fps via firmware? Or is it hardware related? If it is firmware adjustable, do you think Sony will change this somewhere down the line? The LUMIX S1 became a 6K camera via firmware
Lots of good stuff here…yea I am sticking with my a7siii…..photos look great to me just got to get it right in camera. Curious what you use for your shotgun in studio there? I just got a Rode NTG5 sent to me from Rode and I need to grab a K3M whenever they come back in stock lol Hey I would love to grab a coffee at Quays shop sometime.
Hey! Yeah, actually using the NTG5 as well. Usually sending it into a tascam recorder with phantom power but the K3M is obviously great. Would be awesome! Used to be there pretty often pre covid but I need to start getting out there more these days
I would love this camera. I can upscale the 1080HD to 4k time line
I am hybrid shooter and I am think I will go for a7iv. For video I will go for tamron 17-28 and 28-75. I think that for Real estate or something that I rly need ultra wide angle I will just go for 4k25p. The rest shots with 25,5 its Ok for me ;)
Do you know how to remove the HDMI port flip-down cover on Sony a7 IV?
Sony a7s III method didn't work for me.
You mentioned that the 1080 video was not all that great, or is that just in comparison to 4K? I don’t shoot 4K at all and I really am quite happy with the 1080 on my A73. Is the 1080 on the A74 worse than on the A73??
Does the noise of the mechanical trigger make its use impossible in certain situations?
Can you mention the settings for hybrid shooters to easy toggle between photos n video
hello is it have skin soft mode for video same ZV1 or ZV10 ????
really wish XAVC HS recorded in 30P. why just 24 and 60P? I want my 30P lol
Does the camera do the focus breathing adjustment before or after the downsample to 4k? Is the automated crop from the 7K (or 4.7K in s35), and then downsampled to 4K? Or is it cropped from the 4K, and then upsampled again for a 4K file with less actual detail?
Can the 4k60 eventually be activated with a firmware update or hacking? If the camera has a full frame capability, can it be enabled through a system update to activate 60p while overriding the crop. I wonder is anyone will have a fix for this. And if it's overheating, perhaps they cam set a time or temperature limit for this mode.
Sony could do it with a firmware update. It would most likely be either pixel binned or they could potentially do a small crop (maybe 1.1x or 1.3x) and still be able to oversample. But there isn't a hardware reason they cannot do pixel binned 4k60 full frame. Pixel binning usually produces less heat than oversampled video so my guess is they would not have overheating issues. I doubt there will ever be a hack for this.
@@learningcameras Yea overheating should not be an issue at all. It's the sam body as A7Siii and that camera can record at 4K120 at Full Frame without overheating. The New sensor is larger than the 12mp on the A7Siii. But for 4K60fps it should be fine. But they really should make this firmware update. At least further down the camera's life time.
Come on Sony. Listen to your fans and make this simple fix. It's the number one complaint over anything else about hits camera.
Dan, how do you film with glasses and no glare?!!
Sir is there any chance that Sony unlock 4k60 crop later by firmware update
I thought no binning 7k oversampling only happened in 30 and 24p according to the official sony product video which is why it's blurry.
Wait, you can't record 422/10 bit/all-i on to a v90 card like you can on a7siii ?
Such a really bad cripple with the 4k 60 crop. I have four of these on order but may just have to opt for two and get another two a7siii. I really need that full frame 4k 60 quite often for weddings too
Hi Dan.
Just stumbled on your channel, while looking for reviews of the A7iv - and it the subscribe button has been pressed :)
A couple of quick questions, that I hope you can help with.
Question 1 - I have a FS5 as an A-cam and an A7S ii as a B-cam, and I'm looking in to replacing the A7S with another camera. I've been considering the A7S iii, but with this newbie from Sony, maybe it would be wiser to upgrade to the A7iv. What do you think, should I go for the A7S iii or the new A7 iv?
Question 2 - If I'm to buy this camera, and choose just one lens to use on the camera, which one would you recommend?
Regards Martin
Hey! Thanks so much.
So definitely the big advantage of the A7SIII is being able to shoot slow motion full frame 60fps+ and the A7IV advantage is with photography or crop ability. Based on those factors, you can figure which one would be best for you. I tend to use 60fps a lot and 120fps occasionally so I'd pick the A7SIII.
As far as a lens goes (with either camera), definitely try this new one from Tamron: bhpho.to/3mhpCsy It's by far the best bang for the $$$
@@learningcameras
The problem I have with the A7S II is the Slowmotion factor, that it is only possible to shoot in 1080p. But besides that, it is a brilliant camera, so to upgrade it, it has to be a noticeable upgrade, and I just wasn’t sure that the A7S iii was that huge of an upgrade, and ignorantly thought the A7IV was :)
I actually already have the Tamron lens, and use it as my no. 1 lens for the A7S II - I love it!
@@vangsfeldtfilm The A7SIII is actually a massive update from the A7SII in every way from hardware, firmware, to raw specs. It is one of the biggest camera updates ever...but it did take them more than 4 years to release it
I'v been looking for a video that talks about the 1080p quality, so glad I found your video as a lot of others are just talking about the 4K. I'm looking to get this camera to replace a C100mkii, it would be great to know your thoughts on how the A7IV's 1080p compares to the C100mkii 1080p? Is the Sony decent enough when sharpened up maybe? Thanks for the great vid!
Definitely if you plan on shooting 1080p, the Sony A7SIII or FX3 is BY FAR the best option. They oversample for 1080p and have full super35 crop options and can shoot up to 120fps up to 10bit 422 making it better than the C100mkII. The A7IV would probably not be quite as good in 1080p...it just has too many pixels so it uses pixel binning which doesn't create a final image that looks as good as a native 4k image. It might be good enough the the SIII or FX3 is a much better 1080p camera
@@learningcameras Hi Dan! Thanks so much for the detailed reply, exactly what I needed. It would have been super disappointing to get the A7SIV and not get as good an 1080p image as the C100Mkii, so A7Siii/FX3 it is then! Again, really appreciate the video and reply, it really helps people like me make a decision on expensive gear. Sub earned!
What is the S&Q 120fps bitrate? Is it still only 12 and 16mb like the a7riv.
No, it is 50mb 422 10bit in standard or up to 89 422 10bit in ALL-I so MUCH better. But you can't shoot 10bit 120fps in regular video mode...looks like you HAVE to use S&Q or use 8bit
@@learningcameras Thanks. The 120fps S&Q is simple to use but at only 16mb the output quality was disappointing. If S&Q 120fps is now at 50bm output it should be great.
Thanks for the video Dan! Would you say the stabilization is better, worse, or the same as the A7S III? Thanks!
It's basically the same
Let’s see some 4k60p footage using a few crop lenses. This could be good for those who already own the 1.4 apsc Sigma Trio. Also some videos using the A7iv with the Atamos Ninja V would be cool.
so i was wondering, you have to pick one between this and R6, ONLY for video work, log and some quick jobs like using the footage straight out of camera, minimal edit, taking into consideration lens options on both systems, you have no lens or anything, which one you pick? lets go people amaze me :P
I will go for R6, no brainer..
Thoughts on this(a7iv) compared to the lumix s5 at -$800 price difference or is Sony’s ecosystem and tech worth it?
The S5 from a quality perspective is amazing but the A7IV will have more lens options, cheaper lens options, and much better autofocus performance for starters
Does anyone think Sony would actually release an update to add full frame 4K 60p? Even a pixel binned one? I had this thought the second this camera came out because with that it would be the perfect hybrid camera for me as that crop in 4K 60 is really putting me off this otherwise amazing camera! I wasn’t even thinking it would be an option as I mentioned but when you brought it up towards the end of the video it got me thinking … any input would be greatly appreciated, I know we can’t know for sure but oh man, that would be nice and an easy b cam for my a7siii with some way of doing 4K 60 without that massive crop!
Nice one very informative . And Thanks to do the overheating test vs R6 like I ask on your Instagram page I appreciate it now I will preorder one for wedding hybrid shoot. Very info video overall 😉.
Excellent!
Would love to see a breakdown like this but for photographers.
I just love how everyone makes excuses for Sony, everyone tore a new @$$#*// with the Canon Eos R for cropped 4k, and bashed 30mpx that it is not more than 24mpx on the Sony A7iii, and now glorify 33mpx on the A7iv...
Sony gets away a lot, and I agree that the A7iv is not a breakthrough camera that the A7iii was. Small upgrades, bunch of gimicks, and a high price tag (if they have at least put in 20fps, or uncropped 4k 60)...
I use both systems, Canon and Sony, and am looking at this with non bias, because it would have benifited me to get an awsome camera by either of them.
Cheers
Hi Dan, I have two GH5 body with Olympus lens and I am no longer doing wedding videos so thinking about selling my two GH5 + lens and getting the A7IV that can do both video and photo. I'll be doing more music videos + pre-wedding photos and I think A7IV will do a better job for than GH5. Any thought?
So the A7IV would definitely be way better for photos. The GH5 is great for video but the A7IV would also have the advantage of being full frame so better low light performance, wider depth of field, and much better autofocus
I am new to cameras so here me out. i understand the emphasis on the 4k 60p aspect but will 4k 24p or 30p be cropped as well?
4k 24 and 4k 30 are available in both full frame AND crop which is awesome
Let’s be honest Sony’s 4K60 cropping is a totally artificial thing so as not to cannibalize sales from their A7S3 because the A74 has the same processor as the A1 - less MP’s and the same body - but the A1 HAS no 4k60 cropping.
Does the 1080p60 and 1080p120 mode are inferior to a7iii and a7c? Or do you compare the modes to the 4k24 oversampled from 7k. Of course 1080p will never appear as detailed than 4k pictures. What we want to know is if it is inferior to the previous camera with 24mp, the a7c and a7iii. The other reviewers say that the 1080p mode is superior to the previous camera due to oversampling from 7k and 10 bits. Who say the truth?
I haven't compared them directly but typically more resolution in 1080p would be worse since there isn't any oversampling in 1080p and instead that means more pixel binning, however 10bit is an advantage
wondering if tilta A7siii caage would fit A7iv? .. I have ordered the camera and still preferring tilta cages
.
Yup
Sir is this camera good for real estate videography and does rolling shutter effect the same!
No
I thought a 1080p frame size should be smaller than 4k. Both comparison video shows the same lens size...maybe that's why the 1080 is not sharp. Am I looking at this wrongly?
So yes, the video is in 4k so the 1080p video was scaled to match the 4k frame
Dan, I'm jumping into the Sony world and I will be shooting mostly Video while Moto adventuring. I will shoot some stills. I'm torn by the 4K60 and rolling shutter factors of the A74. I'm actually think FX3 instead and I'd love to hear your thoughts. Really liking you channel. Cheers Mate
Hey! So I might go with the A7SIII over the FX3 personally as the ergonomics are more "still camera" so it will be better for capturing stills plus it is better weather sealed I believe since the FX3 has a fan with vents and that doesn't usually go well with Moto adventuring lol.
Thanks Dan very helpful - the 1080 info was very useful. It makes me look at the Z6II again as Im led to believe its HD is pretty good.
Thanks! Do keep in mind that 4k on the A7IV is 7k oversampled so it's actually more detailed than even the SIII which is definitely making 1080p look a little worse than it really is lol. But I plan a full comparison with the R6 and Z6II soon!
@@learningcameras brilliant - thanks Dan I definately will be watching that one ⭐
@@learningcameras Still waiting for my a7Siii to arrive but this is the first I hear of the HD being not very good. Now you’re scaring me! Any more info on this?
@@Pfagnan So..it's not that it isn't good. But compared to oversampled 7k resolved to 4k, the pixel binned 1080p doesn't come close. The A7SIII 1080p looks really good because it is oversampled from the 12mp sensor. More pixels is usually bad for 1080p
@@learningcameras But is it the same as the a7iii at 1080p?
Hi, could you clarify me, please one option in A7Iv camere? Is it possible to activate APS-C mode in 4k 25p? I know about 50 or 60p APS-C, but what about 25p manual predicted APS-C? For example, if I want to have longer focus range at field with the same lens I have, is it possible to activate aps-c on 4k 25p?
Yes, you can turn on the APSC mode in normal 4k25p if you would like
can it shoot XAVC S-I 4K 4:2:2 on a V90 sd card?
Yes.
You can't use V90 UHS 2 on 4k60 10 bits 4.2.2 all-intro (600 mb/s required, we need a CFExpress type A)
@@romainprovost7164 thank you
@@samsonsileshi8813 he's wrong. You just need v90 sd card for 4k 60fps 10 bit 4.2.2
@@romainprovost7164 you're wrong. I have a A7SIII.
