    Hi Jason, for a "Core" Plexi sound being say a Live J Page (Madison Square Garden)or Maybe Angus (Back in Black) tone, do you have a Preference for one Origin over the other (50 vs 20) once your 'Magic' has been performed?
    Great vid btw.

    • @HeadfirstAmps
      @HeadfirstAmps  10 месяцев назад +2

      A 50 will deliver voltages that are on spec with a 50 1987 model Plexi. The 20’s voltages are too low for that, and are therefore naturally more ‘brown’

    • @bryanwilliams3665
      @bryanwilliams3665 10 месяцев назад

      @@HeadfirstAmps Thanks for that Jason.
      On a "simplified" level, I take from that the '20' would lend towards the Browner EVH 1 while the '50' toward the Page/Angus flavor while anything may be possible with Mods and Dollars??

  • @tboneousmaximus7963

    I guess the goal of these mods (which sound great, btw!) Is to take what is designed to be a low gain amp and turn it into a high gain amp. I have so many questions, but the obvious one is if someone wants a high gain amp, why not just purchase one to begin with? It's like purchasing a Roland Jazz Chorus and modding it to sound like a dual rectifier. I don't quite get it. I admit that I am not a high gain player, and my Origin 50 sounds wonderful as is to me so clearly this mod is not for me but calling this a "Plexi Mod" is a bit of a stretch because I've played a JTM 45 and a Super Lead and though these mods sound awesome on RUclips, they don't sound like the Plexis I've played. I do enjoy watching! If I had your knowledge and skills, I would make the distortion smoother, butt I wouldn't dare add more distortion.

    • @HeadfirstAmps
      @HeadfirstAmps  9 месяцев назад +2

      Well, this mod turns the amp into a legit Plexi front end. You can get clean tones from a Plexi, and you can from this amp after it’s been modded too….and it sounds way better than the stock amp even set clean imho.
      Why do people mod Origins? Because they are dissatisfied with the stock amp, and modding it (especially if you DIY) is cheaper than selling and buying a better amp.

    • @tboneousmaximus7963
      @tboneousmaximus7963 9 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for the response! I guess I would like to hear the full dynamic range of the nodded amp. The only sounds i hear highlighted are super saturated Van Halen-like tones. Which, again sound great, but it seems like a one trick pony. Can we hear some edge of break up sounds for a change? How about a smooth woman tone? Richie Blackmore strat tone? A fat clean tone? Just a suggestion. As I think more about this, why would someone purchase an amp in the first place that they were dissatisfied with?

    Could you answer a question please sir. I just bought a SC20H 220v from the UK. I really want to use KT88s, I put 2 in but the other day but they lack a bit of gain, I guess due to the biasing. I am told I would need to get them to bias hotter for that. I am learning that the bias though is done by the resistor making them run cold, but by putting a 5w 68 ohm in parallel with the bias resistor, I could get hotter safely. Is this the route to go sir?

    • @HeadfirstAmps
      @HeadfirstAmps  9 месяцев назад

      Why do you want KT88s in that amp? Honestly I can’t see the point. If you change the bias to make it pull more current at idle you’ll likely burn out the power transformer sooner or later.
