Dave Friedman I am loving the Boss based pedal board in the background (well, it looks like the top row is Boss anyway). Is that a test board for your amps? I have tried the multi-fx route for pedals but am now on Boss stompboxes as easier to turn the knobs!

Mate, I agree, once you use less gain on a valve amp, that dynamics and feel, you NEVER go back to Modellers. I can attest that over more than 19 gigs with bands that use Modellers, my Marshall TSL100 always blow them out of the water, and a few times I have had other guitarists say to me “I have never heard so much clarity!” and I always just shrug and say “just a guitar straight into a 100w valve amp” and they always look at me confused 😂

I took my DSL100H to a local amp tech with many years experience in the Seattle area. I’m hoping he comes back with the bad news being that I need a new transformer because it would explain a lot. I bought mine used and have never been thrilled with the tone (after new tubes and endless onboard EQ tweaks,and recorded comparisons). It’s new brother the DSL100HR and little brother the DSL20HR both sound much better and are consistent. The H’s I’ve heard sounded much better than my H. So I’m hopeful my output transformer is failing. Would match the symptoms of not good distortion, muddiness, compressed and muffled sound. Crossing my fingers.

"This is a brand new 2203x that I've modded" so it's not brand new? Modifying an amp circuit can create noise - sounds like you skipped the elephant in the room.

Cathode does sound , I think better or clearer. Are both the bias , biased at the same percentage?

@Mid-gain w/ no clipping? SC20 all day. Gain at 2 O'Clock? They both begin to really shine, with the SC20 really sounding like early EVH. Once you engage the clipping however, something magical happens with the Origin20 and it just sounds amazing and raw. Great job on both of these amps and killer playing too.

The Stand Back/Stand By switch is diabolical work Jason, 10/10 lol

I started this mod by snipping one end of C15 & C22. I can solder back if I don’t like it. I notice it’s a little brighter, more clarity. I can turn up bass and mids. Turn down treble too. Need to leave it for a week or two and just play it. Thanks Jason!

Do you really think that this is a good sound and that it has anything to do with the sound of Marshall amplifiers? I don't understand what the video you are making is for. The only way to get PLEXI is to remove all this and put transformers (real ones) not this garbage and make a point to point board. Everything else is a waste of time.

Or you could just solder the jack...

Amp sounded great with stock and new...

Mod sounds little bit less bright. Longer cable will do the same and it's easier to go back to stock with short one or buffer.

I think a blind test would be best, I doubt these power transformers will be your last 😅 Put an A on the screen while playing, then B. No placebos.

Why would there be signal bleed when the pre tone stack master is turned down in this configuration

Before I got my FM9 I used to play thru my amp heads while playing my music/backing tracks on iTunes. I have a pair of Adam A7x Monitors. The iTunes/music part is going through my UA Apollo/Twin w/o using the DAW on the computer. I have had my FM9 for 3 weeks and cannot figure out how to get my iTunes and my FM9 music/sounf to come out of my stereo monitors. When it does come out it sounds muffled at best. The 4 cable sounds good but I got the FM9 so I can hear it in Full Stereo. HELP me please. BTW did you have any trouble using your Mission pedal as an expression compared to the Fractal pedal?

The that I personally like and sounds exceptional is marshall ultraphonix mod by Dumble there is two clips on RUclips one clean and one with a pedal run into it sounds very different indeed.

Hey Jason I have a question....I know you have experimented with the Jose master that's pre tone stack before....and I think you've also used a 1 meg pot for it as well.....I don't know if you've implemented it as switchable or not but anyway.....I've implemented it as switchable with a mini toggle and a dual ganged 1 meg pot....using Ossie from 3 monkeys solderless's video where he shows how Jose did it.....I done it just like he shows only he says it's a 500 k pot.....my question is have you ever had any problems with signal bleed when it's turned all the way down in pre tone stack mode?.....mine works fine except for the signal bleed......and actually the signal bleed sounds nice and articulate but just a real low volume.....if you have experienced signal bleed how did you fix it......thanks

Can anyone recommend a delay pedal that works well with the Marshall JVM fx? , boss dd3, and nux were horrible

I watched a UK Marshall factory tour on RUclips and I'm pretty sure i saw the production line area where they're stamping the SV20 chassis out of steel. They load the components (resistors, capacitors, etc) onto the PCB board in the UK and a machine solders most of the components into place. Are the Origin and the SV using the same resistor and capacitor brands??? Probably. I don't think the country of origin where small components such as resistors and capacitors are made should influence the overall "Made In..." sticker. From what i saw of the UK Marshall factory tour, these SV20 amps are proper "Made in England" amps

Great job. Really does sound less fizzy and fuzzy and the mids and low mids are more pronounced. Farty and fuzzy bass/low mids is gone and fizzy highs too.

Try using toroidal transformers. You'll get an even better sound due to less electromagnetic interference. Does it use EL34s or 6L6s? I built one using only 50 watt toroids and 6L6s and it will power a double 4x12 stack loud and clear. In many European countries they use toroids alot. I found that out from a Ukrainian friend of mine who walked me through my first build some years back.

Try using toroidal transformers.

I would like more info here. Why would a 50/60 Hz PT oscillate @ 1KHz? Are you running signal through the amp, or is this @ idle?. This is common to hear from an OT at or near full output with a 1KHz sine wave, especially when it goes into clipping. Did you correct the issue? I can't imagine having to pay a crew memger to keep his hand clamped on the PT while I play. LOL If so, what did you do to correct it? Enquiring minds want to know.

As clear as everything was mine did not go so well. I followed everything to the letter. Checking and rechecking all solders and connections, but for some reason I barely had any sound when I turned it on. Cranked it up and still it was mostly quiet. If I hit a chord aggressively then I can hear the higher gain coming through a bunch of static. I tap tested all connections, lifted them out of the signal path one by one; and back tested each connection with no difference. Then after hitting a couple of chords aggressively and hearing the static laden gain signal it blew a mains fuse and shut off. What could possibly be the issue?
