Never got to play 3D world and wanted to fully complete all levels in the game before beginning Bowser’s fury. However after completing the main story I noticed there was post story levels. After completing those I noticed there was more. And more. And more.
its must pick up if you're mario fan, i had blast with this game I'm not huge mario fan, literally i played this game the most on my wii U before i sold it
3D World has the best postgame in there entire 3D Mario series. While it's kinda meaty, it doesn't feel too long and tediois (like Odyssey and Galaxy 2). It has the right length and right challenge.
for me it was the opposite, I finished the first world of 3d world and was like, this is pretty fun but lets check out bowser's fury, and I probably won't open the main game again until I finish this
@@adrianleonce455 Idk, I think 3D Land's postgame might actually top 3D World's. Yeah, 3D World had like 4 or so hidden worlds iirc, but 3D Land had a whole entire extra game's worth of content!
15:37 The story actually does get explained as to why Bowser was all angry. It’s explained during the credits with Jr’s drawings. I’m sure 80% of people were confused with the drawings and thought it was just there for looks. The story goes that Bowser, Bowser Jr and their minions decided to take a visit to lake lap cat for a nice vacation. Once Bowser takes a nap, Jr gets the idea to paint a face on Bowser while he’s asleep. Bowser than wakes up to see his face is all messed up, and naturally gets really angry about it. So angry that the black paint Jr used to make the face starts merging with Bowser with his anger, turning him into a giant blind raging monster, not only destroying his own ships, but also effecting lake lap cat in its entirety.
The official reason that Bowser's so mad is that he and Bowser Jr. were going on a vacation to Lake Lapcat, and then during the journey Bowser laid down and took a nap. Junior thought it would be a good Idea to prank his dad by covering him in black paint while he slept, and while it's not confirmed whether it was because of the paint being magic or something, or that Bowser was just that mad, for whatever reason Bowser lost control of himself, grew to tremendous size, destroyed his own fleet, and started roaming the Lake for some reason.
The pictures shown during the credits more so depict that Jr. made the goop in order to take over the Islands similar to Mario Sunshine. Bowser didn't really want to do this however, and more so just wanted to relax. Jr. was of course upset with this idea and got bored that his dad was just napping, so he thought it'd be funny to prank him and draw on his face with the goop he made. This backfired and completely corrupted Bowser and the rest you know. The paint being magic or whatever is pretty self explanatory. It works similar to the goop in Sunshine, and Bowser and his crew are always making new things to take over stuff with.
Paint in general seems to have weird properties in the Mario world. Color Splash shows paint as a life force, and has a very similar story with Black Paint possessing Bowser and making him more powerful. You also have Sunshine, where Bowser Jr is implied to have created some of the bosses, enemies, and even the Yoshis out of paint.
@@DaNintendude That's where the black goop comes from here. Just like in Sunshine, except the goop isn't made from E Gadd's brush, Jr. just made it himself. That's probably why it's so imperfect and basically corrupts anything it touches.
@@chrange9714 ??? There's no evidence whatsoever that Bowser Jr created the goop himself. What did he even create the goop out of? And I don't really even see a reason why Bowser Jr would want to take over Lake Lapcat. EDIT: Jr probably did create the goop, but I doubt he made it to take over the islands. that doesn't make any sense. And if he _did_ create it to take over the islands, why on earth would he ever paint all over his dad with it??
@@DaNintendude There's all the evidence. It's heavily implied with the pictures during the end credits. He clearly made it to take over the islands. Why would he even bring it with them if he wasn't? Jr. loves to take over things just like how Bowser does sometimes. I already explained why he painted Bowser with it. He was bored that Bowser was just sleeping and decided to prank him by drawing on his face with it. This of course backfired immensely.
i played the entire game online with a friend and we didn’t encounter a single connection problem. i thought the addition online was great because i was finally able to play this with a group of friends.
Every other reviewer I've heard had no problem with the game's online, Arlo has said multiple times it didn't work well for him so I guess his connection is just not as good as theirs, or maybe Kane's connection isn't as good since that's who he played with. Doesn't really matter, if it doesn't work for him, it doesn't work
For me, the appeal of 3D World is in it's variety. It doesn't have a theme (besides kittens) because it has all of them! Every level is a surprise kinda and that is enough for keeping me playing it. Yes, easy. Yes, limited. But man, is it creative...
Funny story: When I was a wee 10 year old even I forgot it came out and got it for the Wii U in February 2014. I played it, beat it and thought it was bland. I found it bland because we had just come off of one or more Mario games a year for 5 years straight. I guess I was getting burnt out on Mario. Later on like many I came around to it. Glad Nintendo gave up on yearly Mario releases. Pokémon needs to take some tips.
Oh dang, that's crazy! 2009 - New Wii 2010 - Galaxy 2 2011 - 3D Land 2012 - New 2 and U 2013 - 3D World That was five years of non-stop main-series Mario
Hey Arlo, I don’t want to sound all sappy and stuff, but my brother died today. Is been a crazy day full of tons of emotions and I’m very much emotionally drained, so I’m glad I get to just sit down for a bit and watch this review. This review isn’t 4 months late, it came out at just the right time. Thanks.
I still prefer 64, Sunshine & Odyssey over 3D World, but after playing the Switch port of 3D World, the game itself really has grown on me a lot & is now one of my favorite Mario games, mainly thanks to the quality of life improvements that was added in the Switch port. The Switch port is handsdown the definitive version of 3D World.
My favorite 3d Mario until now is 3dWorld with Galaxy 2 and 1 being close. The only reason 3Dworld feels better for me is exactly the speed(and I only played the Wiiu version) the movement in the Galaxy games just feels a bit too slow for my taste even if they do give a bit more freedom and some galaxies in Galaxy 1 arent too interesting to replay over and over, Galaxy 2 and 3d World on the other hand has hands down the best level designs and interesting levels, if the movement in Galaxy 2 was just a bit more faster it would be my number 1 game.
I always thought that the movement speed increase was due to bowser’s fury. Since the controls had to be the same between both games they had to increase the movement speed for an open world campaign.
I mean, it would have been perfectly acceptable for them to have 2 different movement speeds, as they're completely different styles of games. I think it's more likely the case that Nintendo knew running speed was a common complaint and that, thanks to modern source code preservation, it was easier on a technical level for Nintendo to port and modify some Wii and WiiU games than for many of their other games, especially older ones. Case in point; almost all of Nintendo's 'ports' from earlier gens rely almost entirely on emulation. While this allows them to easily 'port' the game, it makes making changes beyond simple asset swapping a nightmare. As for why this was ever a problem, it used to be that once the retail game image was built, the source code was disposed of, but in the age of online patching and remasters, most companies realise that's a very stupid thing to do now. Having the original source code to hand still makes making these modifications far easier.
@@conorrynne9694 I don't think it's necessary to have the same controls between the 2 games aswell, but it's usually the Nintendo way. It's a habit of theirs. And I don't think the running speed was much of a complaint. I know I hardly saw people complaining about the speed of the characters. But I do see your point. I just don't necessarily agree with it
Hehe no, changing speed is one of the easiest thing you can program. My guess is that they took feedback from online. A lot of people were complaining about it. Or the Switch can handle faster speed because it's rendering capabilities. Anyway, That's just my two cent.
I used to be very harsh on 3D world. I bought it again on switch to give it another go and I must say, I take it all back. This game is actually a secret masterpiece. All killer no filler from beginning to end. Sure one may not like that it's an easier game, or that it has linear and very short levels. To me, those aren't really flaws, but more like a different approach to Mario and I'm all for it. Give it a shot with an open mind and you may enjoy it as much as I did!
having odyssey, and only owning a switch, made me able to have a TON of fun with 3D world after waiting for the switch port for so long. its different for you having it be THE mario, but i found 3D world a very fun time. for bowsers fury, its the collectathon and foundation of odyssey, with all the gameplay being 3d world, and it was so fun.
Thoughts i had while watching: - The timer serves a useful purpose for coop. To get the highest score at the end of a level, a group can be incentived to fight eachother, throw friends off ledges etc, rather than progressing. The timer acts as a gentle reason to actually progress through the level and cooperate to some degree. The timer almost never runs out, but exists to streamline the multiplayer process - While i can see why one would be disappointed at 3d world if they treat it as a single player adventure, i think the game isnt attempting to be that. The multiplayer aspect is pushed on the box art, the trailers, and each level was clearly designed with it in mind. At least to me, multiplayer is the core 3d world experience, with the single player being the less recommended option, and so it may be better to judge the game with that perspective - with a group, 3d world is elevated in almost every area - The older i get, the more i appreciate games that focus on one specifc core experience that i can't get elsewhere. I play lots of games, but almost nothing feels like 3D world coop, and thats a big part of the appeal to me Great review, always enjoy hearing your perspective! Love you Arlo
yeah, the only times i ever ran out was on the levels that started you out with like 30 seconds (of which there were like 4) and the boss rush one at the end (and maybe farming lives in 1-2 💀)
@@jacketofdiamonds honestly, the online just down to personal situations. Me and my friend both have a good connection and live in the same city, so our experience with 3D World online was amazing - it felt just like we were playing locally.
@@danielarputharaj9918 fair point, I'd guess that Arlo and Kane's problems came from them living in different parts of the country, or possibly even different countries
Also I’ve replayed bowsers fury at least 3 times. Never have I used the same playing style twice, you can be cautious, reckless, fast, curious even. It’s so interesting to explore and I don’t plan on stopping.
I have one problem with bowser's fury. The bowser blocks, while interesting in concept, are pointless. You just have to happen to be near one when bowser is out, or else you have to wait around doing nothing until he arrives. There are a ton across the game world, but breaking one and getting the shine makes bowser leave, meaning you couldn't get another one even if you had enough time to get to them. There is only one point in the game where you can feasibly get them all without waiting around a bunch, and that's at the very end of the game when bowser stops leaving, but if you weren't thinking about it and fought bowser instead, the permabowser time never comes back in post-game and you're stuck waiting around for him again to get them. I feel like the only reason they're in the game at all is to incentivize you to buy the bowser amiibo so you can call him whenever you want.
idk, wasnt really a problem for me. I learned pretty quickly that i should just focus on others shines during the day, and note where bowser blocks are, then when fury bowser came out, i just abadon whatever shine i was going for and head to a bowser block. doing this, I never once found myself waiting for fury bowser, since it was something i would only do when he came out. there are so many other shines you can get durring the day, it felt like a waste of time waiting for him to come out. I liked it, as it made me change my goal to go to the nearest bowser block whenever it started raining. Making the enviornment feel more proactive.
@@midshipman8654 The problem is specifically having to abandon one shine for the chance of making it to another before bowser leaves. I shouldn't *have* to stop working on the current shine just to run over to a different one, only for bowser to leave before getting there.
@@BewbsOP i can get that, but none of the shines, i felt, took so long to get that it ever felt like a chore to abandon and restart them. most shines in the game are pretty simple to do.
@@midshipman8654 Not being a chore to restart doesn't make it less annoying to have to abandon for the chance of a different instance of the exact same reward.
I feel 3D world is actually bursting with creativity and is the opposite of bland as far as design. It reminds me of Mario 3 from the nes in how many surprising ideas it introduces every level. The linearity to me is just a part of what makes those ideas work. And bowsers fury is great too. Something about it feels instantly nostalgic and cozy, more so than odyssey made me feel. Maybe it’s the connected nature of it all, feels like Mario 64.
My girlfriend bought me this game for my birthday, at first she didnt like watching it but when we first planes it together she started liking it, we went through the game in multiplayer and Now we are collecting everything to 100%. Nice surprise how it makes you think its about to end but suddenly appears a new world.
That version is worth full price just for Bowser’s Fury alone! I absolutely love that mode and I was happy just to have Super Mario 3D World on Switch.
More games should adopt a walk button instead, and have the default movement speed be fast. Not only does it mean that the player doesn't have to arbitrarily hold down a button all the time, it also has a positive impact on level design. The designer will be more likely to encourage fast movement through the environment, and the walk button only really exists so that higher-level players can position themselves more precisely in order to pull off tricks and skips.
I played and completed the whole game online with my friend from Australia and I live in Canada. The lag at times was bad but we got thru it and collected everything as well!
As someone who grew up mostly on platformers, especially Sonic, there was no greater joy for me in this game than running and jumping around to get to the end as quickly as possible. The faster movement speed and mid-air jump move helped with that especially.
"I just paid $60 for a game I already own and that I don't even love and I did it gladly". Sums up Nintendo fans pretty well, and it's the reason why Nintendo gets away with charging $60 for "remakes" and rom packs of old games.
I know that this type of format comes with the offset of the review being incredibly late, but I definitely prefer your on the cuff reviews rather than your off the cuff. There’s just a lot more analysis and clear care into what you’re saying.
I never want to see the flagpole in a Mario game again. Instead of unique challenges/missions for getting stars/shines in the other games (like helping the NPCs in Noki Bay, or destroying the trash for the robots in Galaxy), it's literally "sprint through the level and touch the flagpole at the end to win' EVERY single time
3D World is so under rated it is so good but I payed 20 bucks for it on the Wii U so I didn’t double dip also the run button being the same as grab is amazing it is so funny to accidentally throw your friend of a ledge
I really hope Nintendo does not abandon the 3D World formula. What I love about it is that it combines fun elements from 2D Mario (linear design, time limit, power-ups, world hubs, enemies between you and the end) and 3D Mario (able to move in a 3D space in most levels, a little bit of exploration to find collectables) into one package. The fact that it is so simple is what makes it so good. While mainline Super Mario games are always trying to innovate, to do the next big thing never done in the franchise before, 3D World sticks to Mario's roots, in arguably a more fun way than 2D Mario.
6:45 The angled world also cuts down on processing power needed so there is more available for other things. The textures are very large and not ultra detailed and the geometric make-up is simple so not many triangles. That leaves more power for post-processing effects and character animation. It also means it can run at 60 fps flawlessly without any stutters.
In the credits for Bowser’s Fury after getting 100 stars and beating Bowser for the last time, it is revealed that Bowser Jr’s paint is what turned Bowser all big and scary after painting on his face while he slept.
I'm surprised online was laggy for you, my friend and I played through it without any problems, and from what I've heard most people don't have any issues either.
Personally gotta say I prefer this type of Mario 3D games rather than Odessey. I like that the objectives are clear and able to be attained without having to run around aimlessly at times like in Odessey. It might be boring to some but it actually is awesome for me! That’s probably why I enjoy 2D Mario so much. This has to be my favorite Mario 3D game in front of Galaxy 2. Great review Arlo!
@@rimfire8217 yes, that’s why I said personally! I recognize where Arlo was coming from, just wanted to say my piece from someone who enjoys the things he thinks they do wrong!
Its entirely preference if you think the linear style is better or the sandbox one and both of them can be done excellently. Not one style is superior over the other.
You mentioned the online being bad and with lag but my experience was the exact opposite. I have played through 3D World now in single player and online multiplayer and I have had no issues at all. In fact, the online experience was so great for me that I have even convinced some friends to purchase the game just for online play. Clearly there is more to online play than just how a game runs for each person, mainly because everyone’s internet connection is different, but that is my point. This game did not have the same issues I had in the past with Nintendo online games. It was smooth and quite enjoyable. Regardless, thank you for the review. As always love watching this little blue monster talk about games. Keep up the great work and never stop being you!
The goal from Nintendo was always to translate 2D Mario to 3D and every 3D game in the series since 64 has slowly been getting to that point by tinkering with the design. The Bowser stages in 64 evolved into the special stages in Sunshine which evolved into half the level design of Galaxy which became the majority of Galaxy 2. 3D World was a natural progression from Galaxy 2 which was already super linear. Odyssey is where they realized they had perfected the transition finally and could experiment once again with more open design. Bowsers Fury experiments even more with elements from all the games from 3D World to Sunshine to Odyssey. I think the next game will be an even bigger experiment that builds off of what Bowsers Fury did. Watching this evolution is interesting to me and makes me appreciate every 3D Mario game in their own ways.
I feel like the online co-op jab was a bit too cynical because every time I play 3D World online with friends, it's almost always smooth, with only an occassional frame dip here and there
@@cubedmelons876 He just seems to disregard the idea that other people might have had a better time with the online and just completely writes it off entirely

I loved 3D World, but mostly because I played with my friends through the whole thing. I still haven't played Bowser's Fury, but it's good to know I'll love it when I eventually do..
I played 3D World for the first time with this port and I am already such a huge fan of it. It's such a magical and fun experience and the Switch port only heightens that experience with all it adds. And Bowser's Fury is great as well (though not the new best 3D Mario experience like everyone keeps saying it is, it's just new game syndrome it'll pass). Big fan of both experiences and that was some of the best $60 I've ever spent for sure.
I agree. I was not a fan of 3D World, but loved Bowser’s Fury. The older generation (Super Nintendo gen.) love 3D world, but we’re meh about Bowser’s Fury. I was a N64 kid, and played the hell out of Super Marion 64. I think we become conditioned with time to what feels homey and warm and comfortable.
Yeah, the POST-GAME is tough (Champion’s Road especially), but the majority of the game is still super easy. Being easy’s not a bad thing (if it was I sure as hecc wouldn’t be a Kirby fan), but a game having a few handful of tough challenges doesn’t make the whole game hard.
I played and absolutely loved 3D World on WiiU and so was reluctant to buy it again at full price for Switch, but I snatched it up on sale for Black Friday and have been having an absolute blast with Bowser's Fury. The overall size and amount of content is much greater than I expected, and it feels like an entirely new Mario game.. I really do hope ideas and assets from this make it into the next big Mario game (which hopefully isn't too much farther off!!)
Whichever of you guys recorded the footage for this video, nice work getting lots of satisfying clips! Arlo's reviews are always good to listen to, and the quality footage makes it even better to watch. Great Review!
to me, 3D World should have come out before Galaxy, because the game has very similar graphical themes as the new super mario games which came out in 2006, it would have made this 3D game more impactful since the intitial New Super Mario bros was so impactful when it came out
Bowser's Fury didn't get rid of the linear levels - they are still there. The game just did such a good job hiding their inclusion and how they were modified after the first traversal that you didn't notice. What makes Bowser's Fury so brilliant is that it successfully combines the awesome linear levels of Galaxy and 3D World with the open sandbox of Odyssey. You can think of the areas outside of the linear levels as the sandbox rather than a hub world, and missions like collecting all 5 red cat paws as exploratory missions that you'd find in Odyssey. For the first time ever all types of 3D Mario fans will probably enjoy this game because it has everything people want.
I really love this game and am glad that its reception has improved over the years, also me and my 3 friends played online and we never had lag fortunately (surprisingly)
I'll have to say that I played 3D World with its online mode and I'm so glad I was finally able to play with my friends after all these years and we were able to 100% the game together. It didn't even play all that badly, and we were playing with four players throughout most of it. I also got to watch Simpleflips to a 100% playthrough with his friends in online mode and they actually got through it all even when they were trolling each other throughout the entire thing. I think there's a lot of merit to the effort they put into adding online play in this game, but it is unfortunate it didn't work out with you. But just the opportunity to be able to play with my friends made it an easy sale for me.
@@HypeVoiceActing Believe it or not, the increased speed isn’t really perfect. The game wasn’t designed with this speed in mind, so there are several sections that have become trivialized because of this, while there are others that have become way more unfair because of this. Either way, at its core it’s literally the same game again... but with one new mode that fails to innovative enough for the +$40 it asks for. Also, the old touch screen sections just feel out of place in this version and it’s kinda clunky, making the Wii U vastly superior in that regard at least.
@@nickk3077 It might be a personal take but bowsers fury is my favorite over 3D world. It’s even with odyssey. I like to complete games, I still haven’t completed odyssey OR botw but this gave me the middle satisfaction of getting all 100 shines. A smaller world is sometimes equal to an open world one. If they’re built like this it’s so interesting. The “do what you can, there’s not much time” factor is truly neat
15:48 sometimes a feel really sorry for Miyamoto, it be a very difficult life when you convulsively projectile vomit for 12 hours every time you see a video game that has a storyline that’s more than half a page long.

I’m in the minority of people who didn’t enjoy Odyssey too much, especially compared to most of the 3D Mario games. I personally think Bowser’s Fury was a massive improvement over odyssey for one major reason. The cat shine objectives are way more fun. Both games have a lot of repeat moons/shines, and Bowsers Fury’s are way more fun. Odyssey had way too many boring moons that were just sitting out in the open or required a very small and boring way of getting them. Bowser’s fury doesn’t suffer this problem at all. Pretty much all of the moons in Bowsers Fury are fun and interesting
I didn’t grow up with Super Mario 64 or Sunshine so I was really excited for 3D World since I enjoyed Galaxy 2 and 3D Land. Also I’d love a sequel that played with the world themes seen in a typical Mario game. Like a desert world that goes from an Egyptian theme in the first half to a Wild West theme in the second half. Hell who here would love a 2D game that played like 64 and Sunshine similar to what the fan made games Super Mario 63 and Power Star Frenzy Before Toys for Bob were banished to the Call of Duty mines. I would’ve loved for them to do a 3D World sequel.
the moving platforms change was weird, because in the original, you could EITHER blow in the microphone, or you could press x. Why did they remove the feature to controll it with x?
Wario ware £40 and g b garage £27 are steps in the right direction, but we are yet to see if that is it or not, my wallet is hoping they stray from £50 more often
It's weird to compare 3d world to the big 3d Mario games. It's a modern Super Mario World in all but dimensionality. The game is structured like a traditional 2d Mario in terms of world map and level design. It plays more like the 2d games than it does 64, Sunshine, or Galaxy. You said in another video (Mario Maker?) that you didn't know where 2d Mario was going, and I think Nintendo might be somewhat done with it. I think the 3d World style of platforming is taking that place.
2 things about 3D world: 1. The online actually works really well. I played the entire game with my friend online and it worked with like 1 lag spike the entire time. 2. The final worlds are SO HARD. Omg they are way too hard if you’re going for 100%. Anyway that’s it lol

Junior thought it would be a good Idea to prank his dad by covering him in black paint while he slept, and while it's not confirmed whether it was because of the paint being magic or something, or that Bowser was just that mad, for whatever reason Bowser lost control of himself, grew to tremendous size, destroyed his own fleet, and started roaming the Lake for some reason.

i played the entire game online with a friend and we didn’t encounter a single connection problem. i thought the addition online was great because i was finally able to play this with a group of friends.
Yeah I think it was arlos connection the game with my friend played perfectly with 4 of us
Every other reviewer I've heard had no problem with the game's online, Arlo has said multiple times it didn't work well for him so I guess his connection is just not as good as theirs, or maybe Kane's connection isn't as good since that's who he played with.

It has some of the best level design in the entire series
Funny story: When I was a wee 10 year old even I forgot it came out and got it for the Wii U in February 2014. I played it, beat it and thought it was bland. I found it bland because we had just come off of one or more Mario games a year for 5 years straight. I guess I was getting burnt out on Mario. Later on like many I came around to it. Glad Nintendo gave up on yearly Mario releases. Pokémon needs to take some tips.

Sorry for your loss man. ❤️❤️
What about the Galaxy games ?
@@The94Venom Honestly I prefer 3D World over the Galaxy games.
@@metashade4218 Same. I feel like 3D World is better than the Galaxy games in terms of level design.
@Dragular it’s ok to have wrong opinions
The controls of the 2 are already fundamentally different since Bowser's Fury has full 360 movement instead of 3D World's 8.
Maybe
THAT BLUE GUY DOESN’T LOVE 3D WORLD!?!? LET'S GET HIM!!! AND THEN LET'S HELP HIM GET BACK THOSE ORIGINAL RAYCONS BACK, I NEED RESOLUTION TO THIS PLOT.
15:58 Arlo as Miyamoto menacingly saying No in japanese kills me
Thoughts i had while watching:
- The timer serves a useful purpose for coop. To get the highest score at the end of a level, a group can be incentived to fight eachother, throw friends off ledges etc, rather than progressing. The timer acts as a gentle reason to actually progress through the level and cooperate to some degree. The timer almost never runs out, but exists to streamline the multiplayer process
- While i can see why one would be disappointed at 3d world if they treat it as a single player adventure, i think the game isnt attempting to be that. The multiplayer aspect is pushed on the box art, the trailers, and each level was clearly designed with it in mind. At least to me, multiplayer is the core 3d world experience, with the single player being the less recommended option, and so it may be better to judge the game with that perspective - with a group, 3d world is elevated in almost every area
- The older i get, the more i appreciate games that focus on one specifc core experience that i can't get elsewhere. I play lots of games, but almost nothing feels like 3D world coop, and thats a big part of the appeal to me
Great review, always enjoy hearing your perspective! Love you Arlo
yeah, the only times i ever ran out was on the levels that started you out with like 30 seconds (of which there were like 4) and the boss rush one at the end (and maybe farming lives in 1-2 💀)
They should have not included a timer so we could mess around in the levels and explore them
of course that kind of worsens the problems with online multiplayer but very good points
@@jacketofdiamonds honestly, the online just down to personal situations. Me and my friend both have a good connection and live in the same city, so our experience with 3D World online was amazing - it felt just like we were playing locally.
@@danielarputharaj9918 fair point, I'd guess that Arlo and Kane's problems came from them living in different parts of the country, or possibly even different countries
the most terrifying part of Bowser's Fury is when you reach 47 cat shines
GARN47?!
@@BewbsOP That is fair, and it was something that I noticed, too.
Sometimes it's so hard to tell where you are in space. Jumping on an enemy can be tricky sometimes when it just shouldn't be.
You got to admit, World Bowser with it’s carnival/circus theme was just amazing. I hope to see it revisited or at least get a stage in Smash Bros.
“Oh, look at that, I’m being timed. Why? I don’t know. Just to make it less fun, or something? I can’t really think of a good reason.”
Thank you.
Arlo: This new strategy of Nintendo's is awesome

11:08 They do that so you can pick up any Mario game and immediately know how to play.
That version is worth full price just for Bowser’s Fury alone! I absolutely love that mode and I was happy just to have Super Mario 3D World on Switch.
I've always found run buttons to be more comfortable than just running by default, is it just me?
You're not alone, I always find tilting the stick any amount other than full force to feel really awkward and hard to do consistently.
i like pressing down on the stick to sprint
More games should adopt a walk button instead, and have the default movement speed be fast.
Not only does it mean that the player doesn't have to arbitrarily hold down a button all the time, it also has a positive impact on level design.
The designer will be more likely to encourage fast movement through the environment, and the walk button only really exists so that higher-level players can position themselves more precisely in order to pull off tricks and skips.
I feel the same. I always feel weird playing Odyssey for the first time in a while since Mario automatically sprints in it
You forgot the biggest change in 3D world:
They removed the x that was next to the life counter
The waiting times between games releasing and Arlo's review coming out are totally worth it because they're always so well written!
I actually really like that you run and pick up with the same button as it makes the game crazier when playing with the boys.
I don't really care. If I don't think something is worth 60, then I'm not buying it
3D World still remains one of favorite Mario games, so it was amazing to play it again on the Switch. Bowser’s Fury was a great extra bonus.
The online worked perfectly for me! I was shocked. I'm surprised it didn't work well for you, it really is great!
Man people have said that the online works great, part of the reason being that you can only play with friends instead of randos online.
Wait you accidentally throw your friends off the ledge? Guess you have more restraint than me.

Runny jumpy levels is all I want in a Mario game
6:45
The angled world also cuts down on processing power needed so there is more available for other things. The textures are very large and not ultra detailed and the geometric make-up is simple so not many triangles. That leaves more power for post-processing effects and character animation. It also means it can run at 60 fps flawlessly without any stutters.
"he sure isn't kitten' around with that hammer"
Nintendo better make a full sized game like bowser fury. Open world mario is the future
I like how the title of this review is a play on a cult movie from the 60s that absolutely no young person has seen.

Yeah, Oddessy just seemed too... Unstructured for me. I still liked it, but haven't finished it yet
You are entitled to your opinion.
I completely agree. I love all the 3D Mario's, but I always had more fun with the course clear games than the open world games.
Game Designers "How do you want to annoy the player every now and then?
Nintendo "Rain. Lots of rain."
I feel like the online co-op jab was a bit too cynical because every time I play 3D World online with friends, it's almost always smooth, with only an occassional frame dip here and there
It’s really not that bad, I also have seen people say it’s not bad at all as well so idk that’s possibly just Arlo lol
I mean, if he wasn't able to experience the smoothness that you did, what do you expect in the review?

I’m sorry- it’s insane that he said this game goes too far in the easy direction. This must be a man who did not play ANY of the post-game
I want bowser’s car in the next Mario kart!
Whichever of you guys recorded the footage for this video, nice work getting lots of satisfying clips! Arlo's reviews are always good to listen to, and the quality footage makes it even better to watch. Great Review!
Alright that shigi bit with the "iie" was hilarious 😂
to me, 3D World should have come out before Galaxy, because the game has very similar graphical themes as the new super mario games which came out in 2006, it would have made this 3D game more impactful since the intitial New Super Mario bros was so impactful when it came out
I love Plessie but she just can't replace Dorrie in my heart
In bowsers fury it’s annoying because you just play the same boss every time
Especially at the end when it doesn't leave. I just wanted to play the game yet that dumb thing doesn't leave me alone. It got annoying quickly
I really love this game and am glad that its reception has improved over the years, also me and my 3 friends played online and we never had lag fortunately (surprisingly)
The fact he made a review for this game TWICE already says enough about the game for me
It's my favorite Mario game, it's exactly how 2d levels should be in 3d, just perfect.
How dare you not even mention the new music for Bowser’s Fury. The Plessie music is just BLISSFUL
I personally recommend renting the game if you own a Wii U. Bowser’s Furry is fun, but definitely not worth paying an extra $40 for if you can.
You don't seem to take account the quality of life changes the Switch version of 3D World has
@@HypeVoiceActing Believe it or not, the increased speed isn’t really perfect.
Some people expected a new 3D Mario game to be revealed at E3 2021 for some reason, I guess they forgot this game existed.
Can't lie, I totally forgot this game existed
Hell who here would love a 2D game that played like 64 and Sunshine similar to what the fan made games Super Mario 63 and Power Star Frenzy

To be honest, one of the best switch ports
The only one worth getting tbh
@@slwoo7432 the switch bangers are SEVERELY lacking
2 things about 3D world:
1. The online actually works really well. I played the entire game with my friend online and it worked with like 1 lag spike the entire time.
2. The final worlds are SO HARD. Omg they are way too hard if you’re going for 100%.
Anyway that’s it lol
I personally love 3D World but adding on Bowser's Fury makes this a PURRRRRFECT game.
I appreciate and love your content, Arlo. I relate a lot and I love how great you are with explaining yourself.
